Tim Edberg Wow wtf are people believing him? Tony is dumb. The price he is talking about is for the standard S60 R-design, the one with 304hp..(Or 325 if you include polestar trim)
Alenko O Haha! You wouldn't believed me if I told you that I drove an S60 R-design with polestar trim the first week I got my driving licence. It's a long story, but basically I didn't lose my licence that week. Totally destroyed my feelings for cars. Where is the horsepower and four wheel drive? :P
It's now the third time I watch this video and each time I get chills and goosebumps! And I'm not a big "car guy" at all. But Dammit... I WANT This Car!
Polestar are currently working on a 450hp engine that they likely intend to put into the next S60 redesign. The S60 Polestar Concept (in this video) was an experiment, the S60 Polestar production was a limited run, and now with a new branding direction(xc90,s90) I think this next iteration will be very interesting.... Exciting times indeed for Volvo.
That price CH quoted 17 months ago was for 1 of 6 "test models." (I read somewhere that one went for $300K before it was even built ...) When the s60 Polestar arrives in the US (June '14) and elsewhere around the world, isn't it actually a small run production car? I've read that in Australia it's to sell for about $99K AUD, equivalent to maybe $95K US. Meanwhile, the "polestar tuning" is available on XC60, S60 and V60 - and of course they're sending a few blue (or black) Polestar V60s as well. The line of CH's review that stands out to me is that making some performance cars means Volvo "will sell more cars." Not because they'd sell a ton of performance cars, mind you, but having those in the showroom means some of the gold rubs off on the other models and enhances the marque.
As awesome as this car is, that was my only thought throughout the whole video. INLINE 6! Lol. I can forgive Chris Harris however. He makes the best car review videos out there, and is a phenomenal driver.
Gordon Mccracken they made fewer than 10, I was saying they should have kept building this version rather than the version they nearly beat to death with a nerf bat
Um, the production model wasn't as hard-care, but they sold out immediately so they're making some more www.autoblog.com/2015/01/15/volvo-planning-more-polestars-report/
They sold the 6 concepts at $300k a piece then sold 720 Polestar units globally/online in something like 14 minutes. My buddy was 3rd in line for months and our state only received 2. They have a new batch coming out for 2016 (this coming june?) and he's first in line this time.
the b biddim Why should he? He's right, they didn't mass produce this like BMW does with the M5 or Mercedes does with its AMG series. You can buy a Polestar S60 but it's not the same car as this one. It's weaker.
How can one believe “an expert “ when they say the car has a V6 motor, when the manufacturer does not make a V6. Volvo 6 cylinder motors are straight sixes.
1:32 What a beauty! If I had the money, I'd trade in my volvo for a polestar in a heartbeat. And that's coming from someone who *really* loves her car. :)
Very good, articulate review of this amazing car. I never would have considered buying a Volvo before but if they bring something close to this Polestar version to mass production I have to seriously consider purchasing one.
I love how they compare a sub tuning brand with real production brands like AMG, M and RS series, How is that fair? The AMG,M,RS series are like Volvo's R series Compare that AMG with a stock Volvo S60 R and you'll see 2 cars in the same bracket. Otherwise come back after you tried that 200 thousand shit bucket against AMG Black series, Brabus, BMW G-power or Hartge. And yeah the real polestar production car got 350 hp at 50 grand lols, which is pretty hilarious, hyping up a car this much. I feel bad for Volvo.
I'm pretty sure if you listened all the way through the video and at the end he clearly stated it was not a "comparison"... It was a performance test with an established car brand and series to see what it's capabilites are. Volvo is trying to reestablish a brand name that's been known for years for its safety and wanted to test the waters for a performance/speed vehicle.
Probably you mean MRLS (check motortrend), yes it is the fastest four-door tested so far.. Just to mention some times, it made the lap several seconds quicker than an M3, Jaguar XFR, Porsche Cayman R to mention a few and as quick as an audi R8-V8. This Volvo really is amazing !
Although this 5th generation is pro active, it can act before there's wheel spin, the power to the rear diff is still taken from the front diff, so the rear diff never spins faster than the front. So for the rear wheels to get more than 50% of the torque, the rear diff has have a taller ratio, something that as far as i know only the Syncro system had, to increase initial "bite" of the viscous coupling.
Well just you and several others, I watch it for shakedown but I also like Chris Harris on cars as well. But for me, it isn't the ONLY reason I watch this channel. But that's just my two cents...for what it's worth.
It is going to be priced around $120k in Australia. I assure you. It is slower, however it is not just a quick car, it is a quick Sedan that offers something very different. It would sell well even priced well over an S4 due to its exclusivity. Volvo has done test runs similar to these before and has sold well (the R-design in 2011). Best of luck and I hope these trials succeed!
Another great video Chris. You're right, I think polestar is on to something here. I don't believe that they will be an amg or M but there they could fit into that niche between the Audi s-line and that upper echelon. This is where I think infinity will be competing soon.

It's a long story, but basically I didn't lose my licence that week. Totally destroyed my feelings for cars. Where is the horsepower and four wheel drive? :P
Love the Polestar blue colour, that's the new trend.
First it was black, then silver, then white, now this blue is the next new trend.
Yes, they should go after the M,RS and AMG but VOLVO needs to price it below the Germans. They should encourage people to try out the Volvos! :)
+Ranjith Murali It was a concept, they still sell it by order though.
I agree, low pricing will be their freind
Yes, but they do sell them now for reasonable price around the normal german prices
Sniff The Monkeys The concept have 508 hp, the old Polestar had 350, the newest one have 370 hp
I remember when the T5 came out. What a magic engine!
Love my 2001 s60 though, this thing is so sexy!
It's now the third time I watch this video and each time I get chills and goosebumps! And I'm not a big "car guy" at all. But Dammit... I WANT This Car!
TWO HUNDRED THOUSAND???!!!!!! What the hell is wrong with you Volvo?? You could go mass market on this for £50k all day long
drnh4444 This video is quite old by now. It actually goes for just around $60,000
Exciting times indeed for Volvo.
drnh4444 it's that price, because only 6 were made & therefore had extremely very high manufacturing costs.
Right. $60k for the 350hp one. Not the one in this video that is a 505+hp with a custom manual gearbox and a wide body.
The line of CH's review that stands out to me is that making some performance cars means Volvo "will sell more cars." Not because they'd sell a ton of performance cars, mind you, but having those in the showroom means some of the gold rubs off on the other models and enhances the marque.
why is it expensive? cuz its a concept lol. BMW, AUDI, MERCEDES VOLVO IS COMING TO GET YOU!
CHRIS do a TUNED on a B8 S4 please! =)
Inline 6!!!
ikr. chris harris = knobhead
As awesome as this car is, that was my only thought throughout the whole video. INLINE 6! Lol. I can forgive Chris Harris however. He makes the best car review videos out there, and is a phenomenal driver.
MrMojoe10k i like cars to much so i can't keep watching him. i really do not like him at all after this.....
Tail slapping the cushin'. Love it!
volvo should have made this polestar instead of the 345hp auto only one
+Sean Taylor You never know, they may be doing more after this. The 700 Polestars on sell, sold out at once... ;)
+Sean Taylor Polestar did make this 508HP version and sell them; did you buy one?
Gordon Mccracken they made fewer than 10, I was saying they should have kept building this version rather than the version they nearly beat to death with a nerf bat
This guy really knows his stuff 👌👏👏👏
so what ever happened to this car? oh right it went NOWHERE.
Typical Volvo really.
They have a new batch coming out for 2016 (this coming june?) and he's first in line this time.
comacow02 don't you feel stupid?
the b biddim Why should he? He's right, they didn't mass produce this like BMW does with the M5 or Mercedes does with its AMG series.
You can buy a Polestar S60 but it's not the same car as this one. It's weaker.
I might be getting that car for my 16th birthday, excited!
'Lovely, exciting, V6 noise'... Inline 6.
These guys are serious about their reviews.
Chris Harris what a awesome car journalist.
How can one believe “an expert “ when they say the car has a V6 motor, when the manufacturer does not make a V6.
Volvo 6 cylinder motors are straight sixes.
He made an error, still knows more about cars than any of us commenting here.
1:32 What a beauty! If I had the money, I'd trade in my volvo for a polestar in a heartbeat. And that's coming from someone who *really* loves her car. :)
yeah!! time to change my m5 v10 to s60 polestar.. volvo take all my money now!! 131 dislike from king crab...
yeah,sure
Very good, articulate review of this amazing car. I never would have considered buying a Volvo before but if they bring something close to this Polestar version to mass production I have to seriously consider purchasing one.
its 5 times more beautiful than that ugly mercedes
Spawn223311 I agree with you, but interior wise, the S60s interior looks like shit compared to the Mercedes and many other car brands.
Robbez Duy It'll be updated soon, but compared to other cars around 2013 it's better imo. Can't wait until it gets the 90-series interior.
Tony Stafford let me guess, you've never had a seat in a Volvo nor a Merc, you're just fanboying.
Spawn223311 do you ever hav go with a Mercedes?
Please give this man a TV show!!! Someone!!!
Chris thank you 4 this kind of rewievs !!
Another great video Chris, I love it!
This video felt like poetry to me
I didn't know they released the Polestar concept with a manual. Very cool
Best of luck and I hope these trials succeed!
what a car! saw it at the chicago auto show, looks super-mean in person. BUILD IT!
not a volvo fan , but man this car is amazing , looks awesome and the engine is wicked.
this guy should be a stunt driver ..he is so chill under pressure
Good to see people still love Inline 6s. You should check out the Australian Inline 6 Fords. Search for these keywords; XR6T, FPV F6/Typhoon.
Yes, yes, yes. Please put these into production.
Another great video Chris. You're right, I think polestar is on to something here. I don't believe that they will be an amg or M but there they could fit into that niche between the Audi s-line and that upper echelon. This is where I think infinity will be competing soon.
Makes me appreciate my s60 even more... Not the same In any way but very cool to think about.
That volvo looks incredibly good!
that blue is just amazing, i loveeee it
