When I was getting my automotive mechanic education many years ago, the school had a S60R AWD. 4-wheel drive, 300hp, 400Nm, 6-speed, amazing car. Moral of the story, Volvos are not always boring. :)
Anton iveees sadly this was a 6(?) car exclusive from Polestar so the prices was 200,000$ :/ but still. this over any german, italian, murican or japanese sports car
+Anton iveees The Polestar as it exists today is around that price, yes. But those only get you 345 hp, it's not the same at the 2012 Polestar's - those were the concept car you see in the video and they only built 50 of them. The original concept cars are more than 60k.
My S60 T6 with Polestar has "only" 325HP, I can only imagine having 508 on tap! Great car. And great that Jay now knows that Volvo's are now desirable as performance cars.
Always safe reliable and slow? The 240 series turbo models were some of the first turbocharged cars offered in the US with the exception of Porsche and had incredible potential for a lot of power from a single cam, 8v 4cyl. Made close power to what a Chevy v8 made in the same time period...
Always liked the 240 2 door turbo and especially the Bertone Coupé. Not sure if the Bertone was a turbo though. Cool cars. I'm about to pull the trigger on a V90 CC. Beautiful wagon !!
@@johanneswarn5488 Kind of hard to do without breaking the FWD axle. I heard that the most you could expect out of one of those was 400 hp without damaging the axle.
I love this partnership with polestar and what Volvo has done with this generation of the S60. You can buy just about every volvo with a pole star tune now that is fully covered under warranty. Enthusiasts have been asking for something like this for years. Refreshing to finally have a manufacturer that supports us.
Its a very nice car. I'm a big fan of the S60 R. 300hp and 300 torque for the 2004-07 and the new ones push 325hp with 340 torque. They are a great sleeper for driving enthusiast with a family. Good power, decent fuel economy, and all the safety and reliability that is Volvo. Now with Polestar producing top quality aftermarket performance parts, its a viable street car.
I got to review a 2013 Volvo S60R and I loved it. I had it for a number of days and it was fantastic. Granted it's 325HP/355TQ vs. the Polestar's 508HP, but it was no slouch. It truly goes to show just how far Volvo have come that they can compete with the likes of the Audi S4 and BMW 335i.
Very nice car! When I was a tech for Volvo I always loved working on the R line and driving them. This thing is miles above the standard R line Volvos and those were fast, I can't imagine the performance the Polestar has.
Scott McLaughlin in in a Volvo S60 in the International V8 Supercars Championship From Australia out performed Triple 8 Racing Holden VF Commodore in Volvo First Race
i REALLY like Jay when he's not telling bad jokes and pretending to care about miserable celebrities. If this had been the Tonight Show, I'd have watched it.
This is the exact engine I need in my 2016 V60 Cross Country! Talk about the ultimate sleeper car. This beast has twice engine power. I do blow off Camaros, Challengers, Mustangs, etc. ...in the winter ❄️
Well they have the 2020 Volvo V60 T8 Polestar that has around 420HP and 500tq. A 4 cylinder that’s turbo and supercharged as well as a plug in hybrid with two motors moving the rear wheels. Sounds pretty sick
Leno is just playing with peoples prejudices. I think he knows Volvo has always made, and been able to make, high performance cars. For racing and everyday use for the "family man"...
We recently bought a used v60 t6 rdesign with the polestar tune. I tried to fool my wife and it worked out great! The safety features already saved her life once and makes her happy and thats amazing. I havent showed her the performance mode yet. Thats just for me lol (makes quite a difference)

Volvo cars are actually very quick compared to other European cars. Most of them come with pretty big engines and very often with stock turbos (on both diesel and petrol engines). I would say that it is one of the best choices here in Europe.
I use to have a V60 a couple of years ago. Like the design and it is a reliable car especially during winter. This one is pretty cool but I prefer the C 63. It makes winter driving a lot more exciting =)
I have a question about the wheels. Hans said they were "milled." Does that mean that Polestar literally machines each wheel out of a single brick of steel?
It would be so cool to see an old school Volvo on here, maybe even a sleeper. A 240 with an LS conversion. I love old volvos, and early musclecars, but this is nice too.
Well yes, Hans failed to answer Jays question but that button he pressed on the steering wheel that keep the revs up is in fact the anti-lag system. It keeps the revs up, which keeps the boost up so there is no turbo lag between the gear shifts.
wrecked my 850 glt, got a s70 t5. wrecked that with 240k miles on it and still ran like a beast, and now i have a 2013 s60 t6 awd. OMG! they say "For Life" and its true. Go Get Another One Aaron. :O)
Really a nice car, looks good, sounds good, Hans at Polestar seems like a cool fella as well, just like a laid back car guy rather than a salesman pushing a product.
100 % agreed, If volvo let them, Polestar could be a competitor for AMG, M-power and Audi RS. Maybe not as prestigeous but performance wise, definetly.
The producers keep asking us for comments about how we like the vids? I think they are super enjoyable. The only thing that is happening in them that is off-putting, is the audio. Whoever the 'guest' is, their mic is ALWAYS turned to half the volume of Jay's mic, and also, the guest's mic seems to be a pretty crappy one too. As soon as the guest turns their head, the volume disappears. I appreciate this series though.
Well, I think you're misinterpreting the intention behind wanting Jay on TopGear or perhaps the basis of wanting Jay hosting a car show of any other kind than his current webisode series.
