Today is 8/11/2023 and I just got a quote for solar roof from Tesla on my home they are asking $232,000 dollars crazy.

This isn't about solar roofs. This is about the over automation of roofing and a company that is too large trying to offer up front pricing. Look guys, any roofers watching this, I cannot shout this loud enough, buying roofs online is a recipe for lawsuits and going out of business. AI is never, and big corporations are never, going to take the customers away from a small roofing business. Roofs are too complex and customized just as Elon Musk states. I've done custom installs for years for a while list of large corporations that try to do installs, and in every single case most of the work done on their end is a disaster. Lowe's Home Depot, Sears, Sutherlands, you name it. Roofing takes way too much experience for the way the big box companies like to hire.
Never had any problems with Tesla with my solar. Great service so far.
I would definitely like to see it progress and move forward. I think it's one of the better alternatives to traditional soler!
Disagree. After talking to so many contractors and seeing the system have to make a statement: there are many better options
Still can't get people to install diverter flashing though
One of the problems of Tesla loosing money on solar roof is that they have people above that say they are engineers designing the product but never had any roofing experience, and installers just have to fallow instructions from them even they are totally wrong.
I just wish they sold the shingles and their flashing kits to whoever wanted to buy it. I want the roof, I can do the install, but I can’t buy it anywhere.
I have tried to tell more than a few homeowners who asked me about solar: “Mamm/Sir, this giant oak tree over your house makes you a bad candidate for solar”. Drive by a year later and people have installed solar anyway. Lots of research and science over the years from Dale Carnegie to Grant Cardone and others has proven one distinct thing: most people buy with their heart, not their head.
Anybody remember a "synthetic slate" called MiraVista from Owens Corning? Just saying .

We spoke to 3 Tesla contractors…
How could he have sold tons of them when there was only around 3000 total in United States sold over a long time frame. I was told this was all for publicity by couple major commercial roofing companies. I figured someone would have stolen the tech by now if it was profitable. Would be easy to reverse engineer this
What went wrong? Poor design, lack of understanding of the market, no understanding of the trade at all, hiring the wrong people to develope code, poor assessment of labor, constant contract violations by tesla, dileberstely lying in marketing materials to offset all this, and then after all that they cant produce it fast enough to keep up with the market of people who would buy anything Musk said was good despite all this.

Does anyone else see Elon Musk isn't the "genius" we're forced to believe? He's a U.S. taxpayer funded shill for people bad at math. He's actually quite inarticulate even describing his own products. "There's a sucker is born every minute."
Exactly. Our "genius" Musk bought the right to call himself founder of Tesla, he was never involved in Paypal, he'd already been fired when that deal happened. He just benefited from it because he was given shares as part of his termination. His solar roof is useless if nobody can afford it. And he stood in front of people and lied when he said the houses around him were solar powered, they were not.
And he doesn't pay his taxes, he, like many other billionaires, pays himself in shares, which he doesn't have to pay tax on until he is mandated to sell them after 10 years. He's a lying leech on society and I believe he will get found out.
Let me run the show for you elon , I'll get things on fuckin track fast
