    stay away from processed foods
    dont eat added sugar...especially cans of soda
    switch to Lo Salt which is 60% Potassium and 40% Sodium
    you will feel the difference within weeks

    I've discovered that, eating less than 10 grams of carbs a day has caused me to have lower electrolytes. I make my own electrolyte drink every day or two. I use Redmonds Real Salt as one ingredient. I used to swell up with fluid retention before I completely changed my diet, so I know how that feels.
    You give great information and are very helpful. Thank you.

    Thank you for this! I have high blood pressure and cut way back on sodium and sugar. I already feel “thinner” after 2 weeks. Good to know about potassium helping as well!

    Just had gastroenteritis for few weeks and malabsorption, my sodium intake was less than half a gram a day and even though I was ill I got nicely lean, few weeks later I had a Sunday roast dinner and family ordered a pizza next day and damn! that salt bloating sure arrived quickly .

    In your 50s and menopause hell. Love you Dr. Mandell!!! I’ve been making my own broth, especially farm raised chickens. Use the broth for all my cooking. Really helps with weight loss.

    I'm just wondering at what point would you consider a potassium supplement?

      It is best to get potassium from foods. Avocados are highest (800 mg each), potatoes, banana, root vegetables like sweet potatoes, tomatoes, chicken, legumes like cannellini beans, white beans, etc.

    Thanks you Dr Mandell, this is one reason why all the fast food places have high sodium warnings written all over their menus. Ie, Popeyes. I definitely have to either take longer time and looking at the menus by going inside. Because when you go through the drive-through they rush you to order.

      He had a video just earlier. Organic Apple cider vinegar , 1 tbl spoon in 250ml water and the juice of half a lemon. You can also take a tbl spoon olive oil with lemon juice

      Potassium also lowers blood pressure...so maybe a potassium supplement if you dont get enough of it in food

    I don’t take in excess sodium, I’m predominately whole foods plant based. My last blood test even said low sodium….so what can I do??? I’m trying to take in more potassium and we’ll see how that goes.

    Sodium have never made me bloated. On me it makes me drained. All my life if i eat extra sodium i look drained like I have lost a bunch of weight, even on my face. I don't understad why it seems to work in reverse on me.

      I love salt and have had low blood pressure all my life (74 years). My mother on the other hand, dead now, ate almost no salt and always had very high blood pressure. People are different.

      You probably have highly efficient kidneys, or your potassium intake is exceptionally high (effectively counteracting the sodium).

      @@alexhauser5043 You may be correct. All I know is that way back when, after I heard how bad salt was for you, I cut way back.....and YIKES, it was not good for me at all. I went back to my regular salt intake and could actually notice how much better I felt.
