    I used one of these for the first time a few weeks ago... I usually am good for a ball or two on a 9 ball break, but every time I used the magic rack, I was dropping 3 balls minimum on the break, sometimes 4 and in one notable instance, five. Absolutely fantastic product!

    I've only ever played in tournaments which used a magic rack a few times and that was a good few years ago when it was a fairly new product. Outside of the occasional TV tournament, I hadn't seen one being used for a very long time until around 3 months ago when I spotted two guys practicing with one on the table opposite ours. After they had finished their session, we got chatting to them and they kindly gave us their spare one, so i suggested that our group practice with it for the remainder on the evening as some had never used one before and i was curious to see what they thought of it. The verdict was a bit of a mixed bag. Some liked it, some didn't, but most where indifferent. Of those who liked it, they only pointed out one positive (ie it gives a tight rack), whereas those who had reservations pointed to 3 main drawbacks. 1: it being susceptible to getting crumpled during transit, 2: The black template being distracting when it couldn't be removed due to balls remaining on it post break, and 3: it being less user friendly than the conventional triangle.
    Anyway, it was basically decided after weighing up the pros and cons that we preferred a conventional type of rack as the only positive (ie a tight rack) can equally be achieved with a good quality triangle (such as the Predator Aero).
    My own personal opinion is that the magic rack is acceptable, and if a tournament I entered was using one I would have no issues. That being said though, it would not be my rack of choice and I view it as a bit of a gimmick a bit like the sardo rack which equally promised to 'revolutionise the way that we rack pool balls forever' 🤣. The sardo is all but a distant memory now, and I believe the magic rack will go the same way. Meanwhile the old 'Tellytubby antenna' is still alive and well and remains the rack of choice for most 🔺️🙂.

    I have seen these do weird things. I have seen someone break, and one ball was left on the strip, and when his opponent tried to slow roll the ball in the cue ball landed in one of the hols in the rack, and settled into the hole. I will never play or use one of these racks. it doesn't matter how thin you make it. It will still be like a small speed bump on the cloth.

    • @JoeSantiago1
      @JoeSantiago1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I think the key is to remove it right after the break, even if you have to pick up a ball and put it back. I've used my magic rack for only maybe 200 racks so far, and I can only remember one case where I had to move a ball to remove the rack.
      Did I put the ball in exactly the same spot as where I picked it up down to the millimeter? Nope, but when you rack with a traditional rack often gaps remain between some of the balls, so I guess you have to weigh the affects of sometimes having a worse break because of the occasional loose rack, vs. sometimes having to move a ball after the break.
      I guess some would argue that a crappy break because of a loose rack affects a match far more that moving one ball after the break.
      For me, it's been like 199 better racks so far...

      @hypercubemaster2729 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SubaruWRXspdManual It is a known fact that gaps in between the balls cause more ball rolling action on the break, which is why tight racks are necessary to prevent an easy golden break: to dispute that doesn't make much sense, considering everybody who racks for their opponent racks tightly. I have a cue case that has a self-engaging lock (not a zip top) so I just hook my magic rack over the latch and then when I close my case it 'traps' the magic rack between the top part of the cue case and the main body of the case, secured by the latch. The flexibility of the MR means it doesn't get damaged (assuming you're not going to 'throw' the cue case in the car!) and as soon as you undo the cue case, you're ready to go! Easy!

    Why use this over a traditional wooden or even plastic rack? I don't get it. Seems like a gimmick to me. I'm thinking you couldn't give me a good reason to use this over a traditional 15 ball rack. You can rack any type of pool game quickly and tightly, and it doesn't look cheesy.

    • @grayboo212
      @grayboo212 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree, sort of. The felt under the spot (where you place the 1 ball when racking) is so wore down that the 1 ball cradles into it. Makes it hard to get a tight rack. I'm wondering if one of these magic racks would help.

    • @chrisfaub4071
      @chrisfaub4071 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      next time you are playing take your time seeing to it that every ball in the rack is tight and touching then check the spread after breaking. do a regular rack with the traditional wooden or plastic rack break again and then you will know why to use them the difference is really incredible.

    • @tallonmartin1726
      @tallonmartin1726 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      He literally explained the exact reason why, it holds the balls as tight together as possible without interfering with the ball movement. The tighter the balls are the more reliable your breaks are and you’re actually able to put all the balls where you want on a break rather then having a few stragglers just going wherever. Hope this helps

    The nine ball Magic Rack is too good. A friend at my local pool room bet everyone in the place that he could pocket the wing ball on the break 10 times in a row and he proceeded to do it. So a good player who wins the break starts the game with a strong advantage. I no longer participate in nine ball tournaments where the Magic Rack is used for this reason,

    People have grown accustom to shitty racks and because of that people want to find something wrong with these racks. How about changing you break and breaking better so you can pocket a ball on the break while using one of these....If a ball is still on the rack and you need to shoot it, have the opponent or ref lift the ball move the rack and continue on...pretty simple!

    • @hypercubemaster2729
      @hypercubemaster2729 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nobody wants to find something wrong with these racks. The fact is that on the break shot, if a ball slowly rolls up to the rack, it will either stop in the rack or change natural trajectory, affecting the game. A lot of people are not ok with that, especially if money is on the line. No amount of breaking technique will ever guarantee that it doesn't ever happen, and if it happens in a competition with money, you can bet problems will arise off of it.
