    Hi Karl, thanks for this best video on the break around. Few questions for you, hope you can answer: a) in our amateur league here in Germany we play 9 on the spot, but we have no break box (yet). So can place the cue ball closer to the rail. What position exactly would you recommend?, b) with the break box in your video you seem to place the cue ball always on the corner, yet some pro's go a little more towards the centre, I never understood why, can you pls comment?, c) would love to hear your insight on the 8-ball and the 10-ball break too! Cheers, enjoy Fulda.

    Yo “box office”, Benny Breaks here. Awesome video breaking everything down for the folks. You know me and my massive break so kudos to you for telling it exactly how it is. With one exception…. that back foot should be kicked out about 6-10 inches bubba. You don’t wanna be in a DEAD straight line with the rack. Kicking that foot out a little bit makes generating power a bit more effortless and allows you to roll up onto your back to on your follow through and also allows you to come up with your body in the follow through just a couple inches (like SVB).

    In the past, for 8 ball, I fooled around with a pop break and squatting the cue ball. Fun to watch, but a lot of dry breaks. I started breaking with a pretty level cue (traditional stance,close to center table), but found that as I powered it up, the accuracy dropped off some. For the last couple of weeks I've been squaring up and pushing off my back foot, like you recommend, and am just destroying racks.Often with 2 or 3 balls down. ( And now girls like me too!) LOL Peace from Calgary,Canada.

    I’ve searched a long time ago for the reason why I would break a 9 ball rack and the cue ball would fly off the table and couldn’t find anything. Naturally went away with more experience but would’ve been nice to help diagnose then. Great video thanks Karl.

    This will be perfect if I ever get into a pro matchroom tournament. I appreciate the video and definitely learned a couple things about diagnosing my break, but how can I take advantage of my local league rules of the one ball on the spot and no brake box? Right now I’m placing the cueball just behind the line and between 1/2 to one diamond to the right of center, then aim a hair to the right of full one ball with about a tip of low right.

    • @PoolProblems
      @PoolProblems ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With those rules you just hit a simple stop ball on the 1 and the wing ball goes. Your biggest concern should be inspecting the rack to spot and fix gaps between the balls.

    Your video is spot on.. as with boxing, the power comes from the legs and torso as in throwing a “right cross” and pushing off with the back foot instead of raising the back foot off the floor! The feet placement is correct too, makes sense to place the back foot more directly behind the front foot to generate more power .. thanks for this video!

  • @nathelm

    Moving the 9 ball to the center spot is the reason 1 ball always go into the side. I'm not even very good at 9 ball but 8 out of 10 breaks I will pot the 1 ball in the side.

      Two completely different breaking techniques for two completely different scenarios. One is focused towards power and is for 8 ball and the other ur targeting to make the specific headball with technique in 9 ball. Only real place where the gareth potts break would be viable in is american 8 ball.

    Without a magic rack, 1 on the spot and on random APA league tables, my most successful break is having the cue ball at 2 balls distance from the rail, aiming just a hair off square on the 1, NOT full power. The problem for amateurs, is that when they go for power, they lose accuracy. Just my observations. Happy shooting.

    You forgot to show what happens if you break it with MAXIMUM FORCE WITH a SQUARE HIT AT 1

    • @2colossery
      @2colossery 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have developed this "old school" break to being a good alternative. Basically breaking 9 ball like 10-ball.
      There are a couple balls in the rack that tends to go. If you get a really square hit, the back ball comes back into the 9 ball, and you can make it in the sides or the upper corners.
      And if it is dry, the balls tend to cluster up in the center of the table, leaving a tough layout.
      It's a good option to the cut break if you practice it regularly.

  • @soderhamn1983
    @soderhamn1983 ปีที่แล้ว

    Why on earth does all the pros break from that spot and dont move the cue ball more to the middle or back within the break box?
    Its like 50/50 if they scratch or not and 1 in 3 or 4th the 9 goes...
    Too risky break I think, wouldnt be better to have less chance to scratch every break and have unfortunately also less chance to make a ball on break, but at least you dont run the risk of scratching?

    • @KarlBoyesPoolLife
      @KarlBoyesPoolLife  ปีที่แล้ว +1
