    I'm 56 and have been cutting my own hair for the most part of 35 years. Ponytail on the top of the head always worked for me, it's free and I have no one to blame but me if I mess it up.

    For perfect face framing layers put the ponytail all forward to mid forehead, and do the same. Not much length is cut off but layers are great It’s called the unicorn cut.

    Might I suggest the importance of very sharp hair scissors. If you are using scissors that are not sharp enough, you are actually breaking ends where you cut it off. Hair is stronger than steel so please consider. Your hair is a dream!!! I agree with you, I got tired of asking for an inch off and these envious hair dressers decide to take 6 inches. There is no excuse for it. None...
    Ouch. you must have very strong hair, if I brushed my fine very long hair like that it would be gone. LOL You are so honest and hilarious.

    • @HopewellHeights

      I shouldn’t definitely invest in some good scissors!

      That's why only my sisters can touch my hair regularly. They both went to beauty school, and they've never let me down. Trust is important, and I'm afraid to trust a stranger. I believe most people would do a decent job, but there's always that one crazy lady who shouldn't have passed her courses but slipped by...or the envious one...or the one who thinks she can take from others to give to charity.

    It just gave me the impulse I needed to do it myself! It is so annoying to me to pay any amount of money to get an inch or 2 of my hair cut of! I was kind of scared to mess it up but it turned out pretty good! My husband loves it so I think we are in business!
    Thanks a lot! 😁

    You’re so funny. I’m a hairstylist and cut my own hair too. Suggestion in stead of brushing through the bang and keeping it straight to cut twist the hair holding the ends into a rope and cut it off no signature move. The twisting creates a slight curve in the cut. The sig move makes a whispy look so it works when layering , but I still have a couple suggestions if you want them that are easy for cutting yourself. ♥️

    • @amandakate5233
      @amandakate5233 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Oooh, thanks for sharing this!! Should you only twist the hair into a rope when doing the bangs, or the whole ponytail?
      Would twisting in one direction mean one side of the hair twists the wrong way when you let go? (Not sure if I explained that correctly-like if you twist to the right will the left side still look okay when you release? 🤔)

  • @ariainman6691

    You have a neat hair cut method. Thank you for sharing. I cut my own Bangs ONLY. I
    take all the Bangs twist them and cut something like you cut your LONG HAIR. My son's
    wife...trims my hair. She does trim WET. AND she does listen..DO NOT CUT TOO SHORT.
    I ALWAYS HAVE HAD LONG HEALTHY HAIR. 2020 I broke my hip ended with surgery and
    the needed to go to a nursing home for rehab. HORRIBLE. COVID INFECTED. Got COVID
    lost 25 pounds which I liked, but also LOST my hair. They never brushed it never washed
    it...long story I hate to remember. My hair is now finally coming in healthy and it is shoulder
    length. Your hair is very pretty and healthy., YES.

    At 4ish I had long golden hair. My mom said she was giving me a ponytail. She pulled all my hair into a ponytail, then cut off my hair! 😮TRAUMA. That’s why I became a Master Stylist & have always had long hair ever since!
    My clients are safe as I’m a long hair expert now, turned trauma into TaDaaaaaa 🤩🥳🙏

    I'm going to rename this video. " Don't get me started ". Lol I stopped going to hairdressers for years. Couldn't find any that knew what a inch was. Seriously, I don't know what it is about long hair that makes hair dressers scissor happy 😕 So I started cutting my own hair the way you just did. Looks just as good. It was hard, since I wear bifocals. Trying to adjust my eyes as I'm cutting. Lol My issue now is finding good scissors. Professional scissors would be optimum, but very pricey. Sewing scissors will have to do. :)

    New to your channel. I had the same thing happen to my long thick hair. I wanted long layers with blonde streaks. Came out $200 later (Canada)! Also, it was in her home…washed my hair in her kitchen sink! My hair came up to my shoulders, very choppy too! I said I still wanted to have a bun. Long story short, I had a sleepless night! I’m 60, and never in all my years did this happen to me. Thank God my hair grows like a weed. Never again! I seriously was having anxiety over it! Mostly, because she didn’t listen to what I requested. Yeah, it’s just hair but that’s besides the point.

    There’s a reason we learn to cut a guide first. Use the same rubber band to cut the bottom first. Put band down to the bottom where you want the length cut then do the rubberband at the top rushing your hair up to be sure they are all straight into the band. If you use a cloth covered band you can then slide the band forward and use it to hold the end you cut signature style. If that doesn’t make sense ping me

    I just got a haircut the other day. First time going to a salon in 4 years. I normally cut my own. My hair was maybe 4 inches shorter then yours is. I can now barely pull it back. They cut so much off and all I asked for was 3 inches to be cut off.

  • @jessicabarker-tripp7828
    @jessicabarker-tripp7828 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I've never taken off any more than a couple inches at a time too scared to do more than that and I don't know why I'm scared to go shorter than that myself cuz it's just going to go up in a bun and nobody's going to see it anyway even if I mess it up I think I got enough to play with that I shouldn't be worried about it... So after watching your video I believe I'm going to attempt my not that picky attempt at long layers going from My butt this time to the middle of my back instead of the tops of my shoulders and this time it'll be my choice to chop off that much and not someone else's without a warning lol... So thank you for your video made me feel a little bit better about doing it myself I mean I've been beating around the bush on doing it for maybe past year or two now and just couldn't bring myself to do it when I have absolutely no reason not to at least try! Guess I needed just that last little bit of motivation to do so and get on with it!! So thank you for that! I'm going to go attempt to not completely mess up my hair.. Fingers crossed I hope it comes out at least even half as good as yours looks .. that being said Have a wonderful rest of the day

    I feel similar to you about my long hair. I just don’t care about it looking professional, I’ve never been to a hairdresser or barber in my life. My hair is very thick and dry and curly (looks wavy because of the weight) so I don’t trust anyone to cut it. I’ve heard barbers often take off a bit too much, I’m not sure what their reason is for that. I don’t like any other style on myself besides long, and I thin it myself, so I feel no desire to pay someone to do it.

    Oh my gosh my last hair cut was my last because of that reason...I was actually growing mine out for locks of love and because my grandmother made me promise to keep my hair long cause as a kid and I'd say till about 15yrs old my mom always bowl cut it. I absolutely hate it everybody always thought I was a boy for one I don't have the body type for a short haircut at all!! I didn't really like long hair either because it was just too much work when I was younger I mean it is still a lot of work but from I'd say about 15 years old to when I had my son I was 20 at the time had not cut my hair at all at that point it was down to my butt and when my son was 6 months old I felt like I just néeded a haircut to get long layers and ONLY CUT THE dead ends off or like an in or two is what I asked for.. I just wanted to feel more grown up getting a haircut maybe feel more like a new mom freshen up a little bit I came out of there I didn't even want to pay the lady honestly and it was so quick it was ridiculous she brushed my hair back down my back and pretty much just split it like you would pigtails and chopped off one of the pigtails entirely basically is what she did because when she just dropped it off I just reached my hand behind my head and I started to cry when I felt what she did and she already cut over half of it off I had no choice but to let her do the other side like that she went from my butt to my shoulders the top of my shoulders mind you!! I seriously cried and I said why did you do that I said I just wanted to cut the dead ends off like a trim like a couple inches she said that's how much dead ends there were!!!! Are you flipping kidding me?? That's something you should discuss with the customer before you just haul off and do that especially when you tell them a few inches what that just ruined me right there on ever going to get another haircut and I haven't cut my hair since my son was 6 months old and I'm 35 now I have trimmed the ends here and there myself no more than an inch or two if that once in a blue moon yeah it's not as healthy as it should be but I always keep it up in a bun anyway cuz it's so long there's nothing I can do with it really I hate my hair being down because my hair gets into everything every time I look down my hair gets into something and I cook a lot so and do a lot of stuff that requires my hair to be pinned up button down I'll put my hair in a ponytail and literally wrap it around to make my bun it wraps around like 13 times now before I can pin it down and put another ponytail holder over it to hold that down it's just a lot simpler than trying to do anything else with it honestly.. most of the time when I take my hair down to go take a shower the next day or the day after wash my hair it's still not even completely dry because it constantly stays in a bun and I've been in that habit since I got pregnant with my son 15 years ago almost 16.. The funny thing is when I lived with my son's dad and his family I lived with him for 3 years before they seen how long my hair actually was because I broke my ponytail holder while I was in the bathroom getting out of the shower and that was the first time in 3 years while living in their home with them when I came out my hair was actually down for the first time and they just their mind was blown because it was down in my butt and they had no clue for 3 years how long my hair was lol That's how much I keep it up it's not even a cool bunny either there's like so much of it for the most part falls down about the only way to keep it neat is maybe a bright it and then wrap it I think that probably helps with the breakage more by doing that.. getting kind of tired of this bun thing it's a little played out from the time I stopped wearing hats at age 20 when I got pregnant between 15 and 20 I wore hats all the time and pulled my hair through the hat and put it in a bun That's how I had to work all the time!! When I got pregnant I thought I had to look more mommyish maybe wanted to look a little more grown up and feminine, at that point and stopped wearing hats except my hair was so long the bun I always kept it in through a hat was at the back of my head so when I took the hats off it wouldn't stay in that position I had to put it up like every 10 minutes it kept falling down it was so heavy there wasn't nothing I could do to keep it in place so I had to move it up higher so I just got this stupid knob thing on top of my head all the time and it doesn't even look like a bun I can't do the messy bun look thing with it no more nothing it's just a little too long I think.. I've even tried using those soft curling wrap things or whatever I'd braid it and then roll it up and twist it around into a bun and let it dry that way and then undo it all where so it would be wavy that looks pretty neat but it doesn't last long because my hair is so long it's heavy and it won't hold any curl very well at all! I don't even waste my time with the curling iron cuz by the time I get halfway around my head the rest of the curls are gone it's not even wavy that's why I do the braid and then roll it up and wrap it up with a soft roller thing and let it dry overnight like that cuz it doesn't dry all the way through and it's still damp it'll just weigh it down and pull the curls out but when it's dry to completely it'll hold the curl all day but the bad thing is that lasts about maybe 10 minutes after I take it all out and fluff it up and get it looking all nice it goes right back up into a freaking bun cuz I cannot stand it in my face for one and my hair getting into everything it's just a hassle every time I get in the car I'd have to put it up anyway so I'm not sitting on it like you spoke about in your video previously and there's just so much I've noticed more breakage hair everywhere and cleaning up hair off the floor carpet I have to brush my hair before I get in the shower and after I get out of the shower.. I have to do it before I get in the shower because otherwise trying to wash my hair is just handful the hair so it has to be brushed out before I get in and brushed out before I put it back up when I get out it's pretty much been 25 years of that steady I'm in a hair rut, scared to death to go to a salon person plus I'm a very very tight but it's I do not have an extra 80 to $100 to spend just to cut my flipping hair. Like you mentioned you're not that picky not really that high maintenance with it I'm not either so I started looking at DIY videos hopefully to find something fitting for me to feel confident enough to pull off cuz quite frankly it's down to my butt again like I said I haven't cut it since my son was (6 months old he is going on 16 years old!!!!) Yes I'm sure way too long to go without a haircut but I keep it up all the time anyway so it didn't bother me to take off a few inches here and there to trim off the uneven broken ends and wrap it back up go on about my day so it's pretty much stayed that length once it got there it wasn't getting any longer anyway just thinner towards the bottom of my hair and used to be super thick but it's all breaking off anyway, I'm almost too scared to attempt to do long layers but in the middle of my back as far as links goes it's kind of what I thinking I want as far as length I can live with that and be fine with that any shorter I'm not okay with.. cuz I think in the middle of my back I can still have the links I want but my hair be a little more um I don't know the word for it but possibly a few more options than what I have now for different styles when need be or when I feel like it without it being a whole few hours or longer ordeal just to try to get anything done with it it looks halfway decent for special occasions seriously just like one braid by the time I get to the bottom of my hair my hand hurts much less splitting it into three or four sections doing those and then rolling them up in those soft rollers that are like bendable I think you're supposed to wrap them in your hair to make your hair wavy or something but I forgot what they're called they're not normal rollers but I will roll my braid up in that and then wrap it around against my head to dry like that before I let it down so I can get that curl up closer to the scalp without that rubber band crease anywhere and it'll dry a lot better and evenly that way and definitely hold curl better but Even that takes oh I'd say better part of an hour depending on how many braids I use just to get my hair braided and rolled up and it has to be done far enough ahead of time of the occasion to be completely dry to put down and then once I get it down to do whatever I plan on doing with it after that usually it's some leave-in conditioner towards the ends some lightweight spray that I use for scrunching after I do that and then I'll part it off to the side up front and by the time I get to where I'm going as much as I want everybody to see my hair and me looking like a grown up for once hair style wise lol it's already back to a bun before I ever get out the vehicle at my destination!! First thing would be so much easier for me to work with if it was midway down my back I've had it there before that kind of worked for me but I am way too chicken to chop off that much for DIY attempt That's why

    I am 59 and I've been cutting my hair like that for the 45 years after a bad hair cut experience.

    my 17 year old daughter has been cutting her own hair for about 2 years now. I have not been brave enough yet to do my own.

      It’s a little scary the first time but once you make the switch it’s the best! So much time and money saved!

    Any type of oil you use or product that helps your hair grow?

      Hi Hannah! I don’t use anything in particular on my hair at the moment, I take desiccated beef liver, a mushroom blend, oyster capsules, magnesium bicarb, and eat as well as I can, plenty of good calories every day. I think all of that makes for healthy hair!

    The way you are making small clips on the hair ends, that's layering.
