I nervously tried it... I can't believe how well this works! For the last few years no stylist will give me layers like this. They just give me a blunt cut. Thank you so much for the style tips and money saver!
I loved that you explained placing the ponytail towards the back of your head will give you more layers toward the back. I have fine hair and have never been able to find a stylist that knows how to give me layers in just the back. This has been life-changing for me, for real!
Everything I do, I screw up. Everything! I read the comments and I thought, “This is the first time I’ve ever seen a video with THIS many success stories! I’ll be the first person to screw up. I just know it.” BUT I WAS WRONG! I cut off six inches of my damaged hair and ended up with a cute medium length bob! WOW!!! LOVE THIS VIDEO SO MUCH. Never getting a professional haircut again!
I thought the same thing about comments! I've cut my hair only once and that was after watching a Brad Mondo video. wasn't the greatest cut but I made it work. I'm super excited to try this but also extremely nervous. lol
I have long given up on going to hairdressers, because the result always left me disappointed and I have never felt confident enough to cut my own hair. But as time went by, I started to look like the girl from the ring movie and I wanted to give my hair some kind of shape. Your instructions were so easy to follow, and I love how my hair turned out. Thank you for this confidence boost! Hair can make such a big difference to how you look and perceive yourself.
I'm so late on this, but ladies I did it, and it is so far the easiest hair cut that I've done all by myself. The layers came out so beautiful, especially after I curled it. I highly recommend this 👌.
This tutorial just saved me a $100 haircut. I have shoulder length hair and love layers. Most of the stylists in my area do blunt cuts to the layers which doesn't change the style at all. I tried your method myself and super satisfied with the result. Hubby called me a show off loll
I have been living off student loans for the past couple of years so I started cutting my husband’s hair, but I was always too scared to cut my own, so it has been over a year since I had a haircut. Eventually, though, the split ends and tangling got unbearable so I decided to give it a try. I am SO IMPRESSED with how it turned out! The layers are so nice and the horrible split ends are gone! I also have thick hair so I was so glad to find a video with someone who had hair like mine. Thank you SO much! I will be saving so much money cutting my own hair, and best of all, no one will be able to tell I’m doing it myself.
I have very long, thick hair that I tied up and avoided for about 3 years without a trim or cut. My daughter is a hair stylist but was terrified to cut my hair because it was finally natural, long, and healthy after 2 decades of abusive processing. I couldn’t get this girl to confidently chop it up into layers. I took the plunge with your video and it came out exactly how I wanted it. I’m so relieved to have a way of cutting my own hair that not only achieves what I want but keeps the length and gives me freedom to play around with the layers a bit. You may not have created this method but your video is very detailed, easy to follow, and doesn’t leave anything out. I went into this cut with no fear because I have so much hair that if I screwed it up, it would be an easy fix and still leave me with a lot of hair. That definitely (the no fear component) was a huge factor in my successful cut. Don’t be afraid people! This really is easy with very little to no margin for error. Just take your time, pause as you need to with each step, and follow directions. Good luck all!
Yep, I cut my hair today, following your directions to a T. My hair is even thicker than yours, but I jumped right in. Bottom line, unless I go for something completely different, I will no longer need to pay for a haircut! Thank you!
This is the 2nd time ive tried this technique... its amazing! I modified it a bit this time. Blunt cut my hair while it was down to get the exact length i wanted, then put it in the front ponytail. Also used kitchen scissors for the point cut for longer strands when thinning. Thank you so so much for the clear instructiona
Thank you Emily for saying you only shampoo every 5 days!! Me personally, I can go 6 with no problem. My sister shampooed EVERY morning. By the end of the day her hair was super greasy. She now shampoos every 4 days and her hair is healthy and not as greasy. And I have cut my hair your way for a while now and love it!! Thanks!
@@EvelynAli-uk6tj No... anyone who doesn't wash their hair for more than a couple of days in a row has stinky smelly hair. If you think you don't, you are wrong. Hi Emily! So glad I came across your vid. Been needing a haircut for several months. You made it look so easy and your results were great! Cut my hair this evening 4/29/23, and loved my results! We’ll see what my fam and friends think tomorrow. I’ll be cutting my own hair from now on. Thank you, thank you! 💜
New subbie here! I’ve been a hair stylist for 22 years and you did an awesome job Emily! During the pandemic lockdown I was forced to cut and layer my own hair and I have very very thick, wavy hair like you do. This is basically the same method I use at home when I can’t get anyone to cut my hair, then I go through manually and recheck my layers, making sure everything is even and whatnot. I love the three ponytail method you used in the beginning! I’m going to do that next time I cut layers in just a few days. I haven’t tried to hair products you mentioned, I use Moremo products mostly and Tweaked shampoos and conditioners because they have no phosphates in them. I do have that Revlon blow dry brush and I LOVE IT!! OMG BEST BLOWOUT EVER especially for my thick, unruly, dry, wavy, colored hair! Dries my hair quickly and effortlessly also! I also use Chi Thermal Spray to protect my hair from heat damage, only $11.00 on Amazon. It’s awesome! Can’t wait to view all of your other videos! We can all learn something from each other. Life is a learning lesson each day. I love gathering hacks and tips from people and apply them to myself. You deserve millions of followers! You’re incredible! 🔥👏👏👏❤️

This is gonna save me so much time, bother, and money in the long run. Wish I'd tried it a long time ago. Thank you!

Thank you so much for your video! I’ve been cutting my own hair ever since the pandemic started. I used another video with the same method at first. But when I was looking for a refresher I came across your video. You explained things sooooo much better! I was able to adjust my layers and length better based on how you do yours. I have thick hair too and your version of this do-it-at-home style made it even easier to understand and do at home. Love cutting my own hair, I’ve been so much happier with how it comes out. And you are right (and for those that are leary), you really can’t mess it up! That’s how easy it is!
I can’t believe how well this works! I cut my hair last night to this technique and wow let me just say I’m obsessed with my hair right now 😍 100% recommend this
This is the first time I ever cut my long hair and I did it! I was looking for flaws, but it all looked the same to me and my daughter, so I will be doing this from now on!!’ Tysm! U saved me $45-60, maybe even $70, with tip! I am kinda proud of myself!!! 😅😊
Omg whenever you smile you remind me so much of a celebrity but I can’t think of who. Gorgeous. I actually have that brush dryer thing in my Amazon cart. This is the sign I needed 🎉
Can you/should you do this with wet hair? Or does it need to be dry or even straightened for accuracy? I have somewhat curly hair so ideally I would prefer to just wet it to cut it as it helps tame it better.
LOve this video! I will be cutting my long, very thick hair tomorrow!I am so excited. I also have to touch up the color at my roots. I don't color all of my hair, cuz it is thick and it would cause damage. My hair has been all one length for probably two years now, so like I said, very excited to get some really good layers in it! Thank you for such an easy layer/cut video for long, thick hair!
Did this Saturday night absolutely love it!! Cut 13" off my hair & ordered the dryer you suggested it came in today 💞💞 got tons of compliments on my haircut from friends thought it was done at a salon 😄 nope girl from TH-cam..."of course it was"🙈🙈🤣🤣 they know me well😜
I just tried this today of going 10 years of just a trim of one inch each year. I cut about 5 inches of my hair and omg... my waves and curls are back and feels so healthy. I didn't use any special products just my regular shampoo and conditioner. I guess now I should look into some stuff to maintain my little curls.
Thank you for this! I need to work on my bangs a tad more to my liking. I did it right after I watched the video with wet hair and then gave it a nice blow dry. My hair looks full and has nice layers to it. I was letting my husband cut it just in the back to do the job, but this is way more satisfying with the different layers. My hair: Length: Below chest Thickness: medium
I have fine/medium 2b hair and i wasnt sure how this would turn out for me but it ended up better than i expected and it was super easy and i love that i didnt need any special type of tool or scissors to accomplish what you showed. I am also 51 BTW! Thank you so much!!
I did this and it worked great, although the bottom layer at the back was too thin so ended up at the hairdressers..... but when I explained the back story she was shocked as she said I'd done a great job and it looked great ❤
My hair is a little passed my butt so I've been avoiding the salon cause they always cut way too much even when I tell them not to. This just saved my lifeeeeeee. Took me years to grow my hair this long and I'm not ready to part ways but I wanted something new 😂❤️ thanks!!!!
I have been involved with hairdressers/stylists in one way or another since 1975, as well as being an artist. Even my sister has been a hairdresser for a few decades. I've been cutting my own shorter hair since before TH-cam existed. Eesh. Now that sounds seasoned of me. I'm getting more confident cutting better through watching techniques from others. I've cut my current (and FAVOURITE) wife's long hair only a few times. It's that time again, so I'm BRUSHING UP. Silly (👍), or not so silly (👎) hair pun there with that 'brushing up' comment. Either way. Appreciate the vid! Lovely hair.
I did this twice already and I love my hair now! And I save myself 50.00 and a trip to the salon! I bought the scissors you recommended and they are great! Thank you so much!!
Oh you are very good cutting your hair and using the right products for your hair. I had no idea how much work it takes to get you hair looking very good. You seem to be a expert with hair. It really looks good when you are done.
You did such an amazing job on your haircut! I cut my hair for over a decade and I always look out for layered haircuts that will work for very thick hair. I love your style and I will definetely give it a try. Thanks a lot.💝
YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! Since Covid, I haven’t had a hair cut. Terrified to be around others! I absolutely love this and have done it twice! The feathering technic is the absolute best! Thank you SO MUCH! 🥰
Great tips, I have thick hair too and did it in two ponytails and my front was too thick for me, this way it’s less heavy at the front. Which I like a lot.
This is the best video in cutting your own hair and it is so pretty and your hair is so healthy. I love the layers going to try it in my hair. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
I did this for someone and it worked beautifully! It looks like a pro cut evey time if you take your time over it. Thank you so much for sharing this Emily! 🙏
I tried this cut and LOVE it! I refer back to this video every time I cut my hair! Thank you for saving tons of money and anxiety (I have C-PTSD) from going to a hairdresser ❤
Ok, you just helped me a lot. My appointment with my stylist is the 7th and I have plans of the last minute for the weekend, I was not able to do something decent with my extra long hair for the last 3 weeks! Thanks to your video now I will wait until the 7th with a more decent mane. I wishing you something wonderful happens to you!✨🙏 thank you very much!
Crazy great. Thank you so much. I will never pay a hairdresser to cut layers into my hair again. Your video was perfect and easy to follow thank you again!
OMG this video! Thank you so much! Just wanted to add that this worked great on my super long wavy hair too! I have a lot of hair but it’s very fine and has a lot of natural wave in it. I can never get stylists to cut all the layers I actually want. I am just gonna do this from now on! LOL! Hair looks exactly how I have been wanting for a long time!
I have really thick hair and the other day I gave myself the haircut and loved the results, it even removed some of the bulk. I point cutted the hell out of my hair. No hairdresser has ever given me what I wanted. That being said, they did a good job but, I liked what I did on my hair better. I will be cutting my own hair for a while.
Beautiful hair! I cut it myself but wet is easyer to me, point cutting too. In the last cut you made, I take the ends together so that they are even. I first remove the excess water with a hair dryer, and then use the Revlon to style it. I'm going to try the Morrocanoil! Sorry for my English. I speak Spanish.
Super late to the party here 🎉🎉🎉 thank you for this super tutorial! Can’t wait to try it! Just one question, for longer layers ponytail goes closer to the forehead right? I just wanna cut a little and have longer layers while I go to the hairdresser in a few months to get a bob. Long layers would work perfect for me! Thank youuuuuu
saw your video, hair cut was an hour later!! so easy. i had a lot of split ends from a recent bleach and i finally decided to cut it myself bc i didn’t wanna lose a lot of length. although i cut a lot, it’s still long and soooo much better 😭🥲
The little bands with the balls (the kind we used as kids). Are way better. Wrapping the pony with the balls works, without tugging in and out of a flex ponytail holder.
I can’t wait to try this tutorial your hair looks absolutely fab!! My only question is my hair is slightly shorter at the back than the front as I’m growing it out so will this even it up? Thanks ☺️
I Did this cut before and it turned out great, but i was really nervous the 1st time I tried it. Its important to just follow all the instructions perfectly
Oh shoot! I have very long, but fine, thinnish (but extremely healthy) hair. Not sure the parting in 3 sections will work for me due to the lack of the amount of hair. 😞. I cut my own hair, but the way I do it is a pain in the ass, and every time I do it I feel like it's on a wing and a prayer. Lol Last time was actually one of the best haircuts I've ever had (including in salon), but I'm due again and highly doubt I will be able to duplicate it. You REALLY have to be careful cutting layers into thin, fine hair. It can go badly very easily, literally if you cut even just 20-30 strands too short towards the front. Your hair is beautiful!
This was really nice. As an aside, I am just so surprised how people make mean comments on basically a straight forward video like this. It shows me that many people just hide behind a computer to make the mean comments.
Ooh bout to try this! Just spent 85$ on a cut the other day & cannot even tell at all as my hair is very long, but I like the layered look so I will experiment with the face layers; thankUuu
u have save me money on getting my hair cut. specially with these hard times and money being strapped from the price gouging going on.i just bleached my hair and fried my ends been afraid to enjoy my bleached hair bc the ends . I tried this out. I was scared at first but my hair turned out great. it looks healthy! I will keep doing this for now on.
Okay this actually worked. Especially if you curl the ends under with the blowout look. Never cut my own hair before but didn’t feel like paying $100 for a trim. This does the trick just fine!
I love love love that hair tool! Highly recommend for all hair types! I have very fine, thin, curly hair with layers and it works wonders on mine. I’m totally going to be trying this technique once my hair grows longer. Thank you for sharing! You are gorgeous btw!
Hi Emily and Steph! I landed here trying to see if I could cut my hair myself but let's say I am not really experienced and sometimes I watch tutorials that they look easy (like this amazing one) and then the result on myself is catastrophic LOL. I have exactly the same kind of hair that Steph mentions here: fine, thin, wavy (not so curly hair) and I will like to try this haircut but I am afraid to do it because my hair takes forever to grow but I am bored of not having any nice haircut just straight. So my question is, @StephFrederick? did you do it? does this haircut looks good on our kind of hair? :)
LOVED the way my hair turned out!!! THANK YOU for sharing your technique!!! Amazing, easy to follow video and even better results!!! I have very thick, straight hair and was worried the layers would look choppy but they’re PERFECT!! You just saved me sooooo much money!! Thank you!!🙌🏻😁

So glad you love it!
@@EmilyFreybler question I have very long hair and thick do I put the ponytail in front of my head if I want long layers ?
I tried this trimming technique tonight and very pleased with the results! Thank you!
You are so welcome! Glad it turned out for you!
I can’t believe how well this works! I cut my hair last night to this technique and wow let me just say I’m obsessed with my hair right now 😍 100% recommend this
I'm so glad!
Thank you for the instructions, I feel comfortable about cutting my hair. I trim my bangs every 2 weeks so this is the next step.
Just followed this tutorial and got the best haircut I think I’ve had in a super long time!!! Thank you!
Couldn't sleep and wanted to get rid of my split ends .. wasn't sure what to do... Used this technique and I'm in love!!
Tried this during the pandemic and still follow your video ❤
This is the first time I ever cut my long hair and I did it! I was looking for flaws, but it all looked the same to me and my daughter, so I will be doing this from now on!!’ Tysm! U saved me $45-60, maybe even $70, with tip! I am kinda proud of myself!!! 😅😊
OMG!!! I tried this last night and it’s truly the best my hair has ever looked😍😍😍 thank you!
You're so welcome!!
Omg whenever you smile you remind me so much of a celebrity but I can’t think of who. Gorgeous. I actually have that brush dryer thing in my Amazon cart. This is the sign I needed 🎉
I immediately thought Shawn Johnson the gymnast!!😋
Reminds me so much of Kelly Ripa during her teenage years 🤩
Can you/should you do this with wet hair? Or does it need to be dry or even straightened for accuracy? I have somewhat curly hair so ideally I would prefer to just wet it to cut it as it helps tame it better.
Love this!! Have tried this 2x over the past year and it’s the easiest tutorial for beautiful bouncy layers 🫶🏼🩷
Did this and wow! Husband thought I got it cut by a professional. Thank you!
Aww I'm so glad!!!
I love the layers this cut has given me. Thanks. It's a better cut than iv previously had at any hairdressers
Cut 13" off my hair & ordered the dryer you suggested it came in today 💞💞 got tons of compliments on my haircut from friends thought it was done at a salon 😄 nope girl from TH-cam..."of course it was"🙈🙈🤣🤣 they know me well😜
Wow! That's amazing, I never knew cutting your own hair could be so simple & look so sleek, I'm off to try this, wish me luck 🤞🏻
This is the easiest way to cut my own hair. Thank you for this tutorial!
My hair:
Length: Below chest
Thickness: medium
Omg I did it my daughter thought I was crazy but when I was done she wanted me to do hers I had her watch the video thank you so much I needed it 🙃💗💗💗
Oh my gosh Yayy!! See it works!!
Punctuations, matter!. 😢☹️😞
The final result is much better than what I usually see in salons 👍😜💯 perfect technique thank you very much !!! 🙏🙏
Glad you liked it!!
Finally found someone with as much and as thick a hair as mine ❤❤❤
Love!!! So for shorter layers, more towards the front? & longer layers, more towards the back??
I have fine/medium 2b hair and i wasnt sure how this would turn out for me but it ended up better than i expected and it was super easy and i love that i didnt need any special type of tool or scissors to accomplish what you showed. I am also 51 BTW! Thank you so much!!
I did this and it worked great, although the bottom layer at the back was too thin so ended up at the hairdressers..... but when I explained the back story she was shocked as she said I'd done a great job and it looked great ❤
Love this hair cut! I’ve been cuting my hair all this year using this tutorial and ❤️❤️❤️, thanks for sharing!
My hair is a little passed my butt so I've been avoiding the salon cause they always cut way too much even when I tell them not to. This just saved my lifeeeeeee. Took me years to grow my hair this long and I'm not ready to part ways but I wanted something new 😂❤️ thanks!!!!
Not only does your hair look great your make up is impeccable.
Thanks. I saved a lot of money here. I'm very impressed with my new haircut. Amazing 🎉❤😂😊
I tried this in November and I LOVED the results. Tremendous thanks to you for sharing this technique 🙏🏽🙌🏾✊🏽
You're so welcome!
Omg thank you! ❤ I just did this today after a year of it growing out. My hair feels soo much better!
You're so welcome! So glad you like it!
Tried it and this actually worked, especially when you do the last touches at the end! Totally looks stupid in the beginning. Trust the process!
So glad you liked it!!
I did this twice already and I love my hair now! And I save myself 50.00
and a trip to the salon! I bought the scissors you recommended and they are great! Thank you so much!!
That is awesome! So glad you like them!
I just cut about 5 inches off my hair. This looks adorable!!! Thank you
Great tips, I have thick hair too and did it in two ponytails and my front was too thick for me, this way it’s less heavy at the front. Which I like a lot.
I just have to say this video literally changed my life 😂🙌 from one thick-haired girl to another, THANK YOU!!
This is the best video in cutting your own hair and it is so pretty and your hair is so healthy. I love the layers going to try it in my hair. Thank you for sharing!!!!!
You're so welcome!! So glad you found it helpful!
Glad I could help!
OH MY GOSH YOU DID SO GOOD I CANT GET THE STYLIST TO UNDERSTAND WHAT YOU DID SO PERFECT
The hairstyle you made is so gorgeous! Definitely going to try it
The little bands with the balls (the kind we used as kids).
Thanks ☺️
This technique worked! I was a little apprehensive, but it looks better than when I have went to most salons. Thanks!
I'm so glad!
I Did this cut before and it turned out great, but i was really nervous the 1st time I tried it. Its important to just follow all the instructions perfectly
You just saved a hundred bucks! Imma try this on my daughter next.🤙🏽
I'm just reading these comments and I can't wait to watch this video!!!!
천재!! 어떻게 이렇게 자를 생각을.. 내일 아침에 당장 해볼래요!
Thank you so much for sharing great tip!
This was really nice. As an aside, I am just so surprised how people make mean comments on basically a straight forward video like this. It shows me that many people just hide behind a computer to make the mean comments.
Thank you! Yes it is sad people feel the need to be mean.
Ooh bout to try this! Just spent 85$ on a cut the other day & cannot even tell at all as my hair is very long, but I like the layered look so I will experiment with the face layers; thankUuu
This is my favorite hairstyle of all the hairstyle videos!
I’m happy about learning about a blowout brush. Never seen that before.
That robe! Ooooh man. Looks SO comfy! I need one!
Thank you --- I cut my hair using your instructions yesterday - and it turned out beautiful.
u have save me money on getting my hair cut. specially with these hard times and money being strapped from the price gouging going on.i just bleached my hair and fried my ends been afraid to enjoy my bleached hair bc the ends .
I just did this and im happy eith the results. I combined it with another pony tail cutting video to trim my emds. Thanks!
To trim the length, just split your hair evenly down the middle. Pull both sides to the front in a low ponytail and trim.
I love love love that hair tool! Highly recommend for all hair types! I have very fine, thin, curly hair with layers and it works wonders on mine. I’m totally going to be trying this technique once my hair grows longer. Thank you for sharing! You are gorgeous btw!
It’s the best!! I hope you like it!!
Right? She looks better without makeup than I do with ha
Thank you!!🙌🏻😁
So glad you liked it!!
