    It should be noted that Yamaguchi was a high level military contractor. He wasn't just going to work. He was going to report an enemy super weapon to a general that he knew would be at his company in Nagasaki. Also he crossed a river on a bridge of human corpses which is pretty extreme.

      @@ArakivenThere's a river in middle of city of Hiroshima, almost directly below where the bomb fell, and by natural instinct, people who survived the initial blast threw themselves into the river to quell the pain of their sever radiation burns and to escape from the raging citywide fires, thus creating a pile of dead or near dead pile of people almost filling up the river.

    • @prw56
      @prw56 2 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      @@LighthouseCape The area close to where the bomb fell vaporized, not clear how close "almost" means. If the map I saw of where the bomb hit is right, ground zero was indeed very close to the river (like 100 feet close). The fires hit a much larger area, that covers much of the river, so people jumping in is plausible.
      But the river is a couple hundred feet wide in most of the slimmer areas, a few hundred in the thicker areas, and being a river the water will be flowing, though I don't know how fast... It doesn't seem infeasible that bodies could clump up if the river was flowing slow enough, there were definitely enough people in that city to fill the river several times over.
      Sources are almost certainly gonna be word of mouth, as cameras were not abundant, not a priority in the circumstances, and radiation would damage the film, but I wish a picture existed. Closest thing I can think of is that one scene in War of the worlds.

    Cutting their throats at the eve of crucifixion is perhaps one of the greatest gestures of mercy you could ask for. It's actually beautiful he did that. Crucifixion is one of the most horrific and soul eradicating forms of execution. Cutting ones throat is, almost humane. We do it to animals being prepared for food for this reason.

    • @writershard5065
      @writershard5065 3 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      I... what the fuck? "Cutting throats is actually humane" has got to be one of the stupidest takes I've seen here. This is like saying "The bully could have broken one of his arms, but he was actually doing him a favor by just punching him in the throat". My man, people's throats are still being cut. Julius Ceasar was a lot of things, but he was hardly a good guy in that situation. Let's not go about defending his actions as humane.

    • @vicenteabalosdominguez5257
      @vicenteabalosdominguez5257 3 ปีที่แล้ว +294

      @@writershard5065 He said "almost humane", which, compared to being crucified, is true. When people are crucified, they slowly die of exhaustion and asphyxiation. This process could take from hours to DAYS. Imagine suffocating for days on end while being tied up in such a way that you can't defend yourself from anything coming your way. This including any animal that wants a bite out of you (this were reported ocurrences during crucifixions). Also, this isn't comparable to a bully wanting to break your arms but choosing to punch your nose instead. It's more like killing a deathrow inmate in minutes instead of torturing him for days until he dies (these were pirates, not innocent people).
      TLDR: Google how cricifixion kills you and you will agree that slicing your throat is infinitely the better option.

    I met a man in Alexandria Louisiana circa 2010 who had spent time as a youth in a concentration camp in Poland. He later went on to be the largest turtle farmer in America. He was awesome! I never asked him about his time there obviously. I just noticed the tattoo on his forearm and when he caught me staring he simply said, "yes son it's real." I doubt he is still around but meeting him is the most important meeting in my life and I've personally spoken to the likes of Jack Nicholas and Keanu Reeves. Nice enough people, but to overcome what that man did and still succeed is a story that will always hold more weight with me personally.

    Fun story, I was climbing up a ledge, and I heard this loud hissing sound. I thought I was going to be mauled to death by a cougar or something, so I jumped back down and got as far away as I could. When I got to somewhere safer, I turned around to find a Canadian sitting at the top of the ledge. Canadian Geese are the masters of intimidation.

    One escape probably not all that popular in the English speaking world is that of German WW2 flying ace, Fanz von Werra from British POW camps. He made multiple attempts in Britain before being shipped off to Canada where he ultimately escaped from the prison transport train and fled to the US. As this was early 1941, the US was still nominally neutral and while his fate was debated by US and Canadian authorities, the German consul helped him flee to Mexico.
    There is a movie, The One that Got Away, based on his story starring Hardy Krueger, RIP.

    Spending his time writing and reciting poetry to the pirates reminds me of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy where Vogon Prosthetnic Jeltz tortures Ford Prefect and Arthur dent by reciting Vogon poetry, which is said to be the 3rd worst poetry in the galaxy. I think it was 3rd. It doesn't really matter but it's sci-fi, so you know it'll matter to somebody and they'll call me out on it or some crap. That whole... THING.
