Welcome to the wonderful world of insane abandoned projects! There have been a lot of crazy ideas in history, like hydrogen filled airships or invading Russia in the winter. But with crazy ideas like these becoming a reality in our past, imagine what was considered too "out there" to make the cut. In this video, I thought I'd share some of the most interesting abandoned projects from our colorful past!

Corrections:
- I was wrong about Brits using kilometers. While I knew the UK used the metric system, I did not know how much they mix up units, and apparently they use miles all the time for things like road signs and speedometers. Mentally replace the UK with another European country and the joke will work.
- The US flag draped vertically in the background is actually backwards, the stars should be facing to the left.
- The pictures of Poland shown at 8:30 are not actually Poland. Google hath failed me. As one commenter pointed out, they are from Norilsk, Russia and the Czech Republic.

While I knew the UK used the metric system, I did not know how much they mix up units, and apparently they use miles all the time for things like road signs and speedometers. Mentally replace the UK with another European country and the joke will work lol
We measure distances in miles, height in feet and inches, but small lengths in centimetres and swimming pools in metres. We measure weight in kg and g if its food, but if it's a person then lbs and something we call stone that no one outside of Britain uses, and no one inside of Britain knows how much one of those is. We're pretty much on board with litres, except of course for beer and milk which has to come in pints.

The "Death Pyramid" sounds metal af. Making "astronomer who works on top of the death pyramid" the single most metal job in history. We were deprived of that.
If it was built I'd become an astronomer just to work there

Personally I'm pro death pyramid but anti observatory on top of death pyramid. Having a tower on top of a pyramid kinda ruins the whole vibe and also it's a monument to man's hubris

Funnily enough, Poland more or less agreed with your idea. The government started heavily subsiding theme parks to encourage entertainment and tourism.
That is how Energylandia went from farmland to the roller coaster capital of Europe (soon to be, the world) in about a decade.
Is it perhaps next to the largest coal plant, which does not know how to use waste heat, and is lazy to build a cooling tower?

We don't just use the metric system in Britain. We use a confusing mish-mash of metric and imperial. Let's get in that plane that's 100 metres away and travel 100 miles at a height of 30,000 feet. The maximum takeoff weight is 40,000kg, how much does everyone weigh? I'm 9 stone.

I have been to towns in Peru where they literally did have some of these cemetery buildings, although they were only a few graves high. In their case, this was something they did more because of the sandy soil and earthquakes because it would be terrible to have a landslides filled with bodies that you had buried on the land.

I think BJ should take the comparisons as a compliment. The deadpan humour and niche animation style is not easy to do so well, by any means. Whether it was Intentional void-filling, or just coincidentally similar styles… who knows. But if it makes you feel any better BJ, these videos are good enough to have competed with Sam’s even before he left and created the void that these videos fill for many of his fans. We use a confusing mix of both Imperial and metric depending on the context.
The entire reason its called "Imperial" is because it was the measurement system of the british empire.
Some examples:
When driving: Miles, yards, MPH
When running: km, minute/km
Measuring objects: Metres, mm
Milk and beer: Pints
Other liquids: Litres
Baby weight: Pounds n Ounces
Object weight: Kgs
Adult weight: Stone n pounds
Height: feet and inches
Temperature: °C
Small areas: metres squared
Larger areas: acres
Timber: example: 2"x4" 2.4m long
Elavation: Metres
I could go on. It means the average person has a better grasp on conversions between the two systems

Ok, just to clarify. We don’t use Kilometres, Kill o meters?, kill a whales? The wack distance measurement thingy you said. We use miles ok. Good old fashioned Miles.

We actually prefer miles in the UK as well. Kilometres are used by the Irish though. In the Republic. Northern Ireland uses miles as well.
