Adam, thank you. I’ve searched and searched for “this” as a 25+ year golfer taught the wrist release (flipping) by a PGA Coach. I have been in a complete swing overhaul for two years and this might be the final stage getting to single digits. I’ve gained so much consistency with the new swing but lost so much distance. This will obtain the distance. I’m a visual learner and this video “did it.” Thank you Adam.
Thanks! This squaring of the club reminds me of something I saw AJ Bonar teaching, but his with the feeling in the right hand. Your “pusher/hooker” comment is dead on. I think hookers cry more than slicers.... I’m one of them!
Another element adding to my winter training around no overswing, from inside, lag and now release. Thank you, great advice. Best from lockdown in Switzerland, Peter
Thank you so much. I’ve developed this horrible habit of throwing my right shoulder at the ball because it’s the only way I can square the face. I think this is the root of my issue. Will give it a shot!
This video really fine tuned my ability to square the club at impact. Took these tips to the driving range and the light bulb lit up for me. Another problem I was having was addressed by your video. I wasn't using enough of my wrists and snapping the club downward on the downswing. I was using my body too much to generate speed. Once I started using your cues (like a slinging paint off a paint brush) I started to generate more speed with less effort and better control. I can't thank you enough for your videos.
This is golden. I worked on these two dimensions on the range today after viewing this video ... 1) the snapping of the water off the paint brush with the right hand and 2) the turning of the left wrist down and bowed at impact. While I thought it would be hard to coordinate these movements, Adam is correct. it really is not hard to do. I was hitting the ball more solidly and crisply than I have in ages. I want to thank Adam for this great instruction.
Thanks AB. your videos are most appreciated because I get the impression you’re not trying to make tour players out everyone. Thanks for your perception
This reminds me of the video you use sometimes (black and white) of an old timer golfing, big hitter, he looks like he is chopping 5 tonne of firewood with only half hour to do so! My son wants to go to Cleetus' freedom factory near Bradenton, me, ai want to do a round at Mediterra! Greetings from sunny Australia! 😄
Great lesson! Thanks My pro teaching me more body/hip turn and using less arms. Where is my hip/core at the moment I hit the ball? Thankss I appreciate your help
Thanks Miranda. The hips/core should drive the downswing, but as you approach impact they should stabilize, and allow transfer of energy to the club. I hope this helps. All the best, Adam
Can’t go wrong with Adam’s advice. Relaxed, short & quiet backswing, focus on energy transfer and squaring club face at point of contact. Whenever I get carried away with swinging for the fences, I play terribly. Less is more.
Great lesson Adam as I continue to struggle with my release...too rigid with too much upper body rotation. Would you say that this technique would also apply to fairway woods/hybrids and the driver?
A cupped left wrist is truly a curse. I've fought with it all my life. A premature release gives me a snap hook, and a delayed release ends in a block to the right, or even worse, the dreaded shank. Could adjust to it when I was younger, but at 76 it's getting a lot more difficult. Thanks for addressing the release problem.
More great tutelage Adam!!! Does this release pattern also apply with the Driver and fairway clubs? Admittingly, I am guilty of the lashing and over rotation of the wrists on those clubs. Have a great day!!!
I struggle mightily with the release. I find that rotation of the lead wrist always gets me into trouble. If the wrists uncock properly, the lead wrist will square itself. But, I try not to force that movement. One thing you mentioned that I have found really helps with solid, square shots is to keep that trail elbow and arm behind the lead arm... Once it get up and over the top, all is lost...
Hello! I used to practise with impact snap, exactly the same way you describe here, but what about bowing at P4-P5 while we shallow the shaft first, and unhinging later at P7?
Definitely my biggest problem. I don't rotate/bow the left hand. I leave the club face so open sometimes that I can slice it onto the next fairway. Will work on this for sure.
My local pro told me research has indicated that any manipulation of the club by the hands actually reduces clubhead speed. There is a lot of conflicting opinions on the role of the hands in the golf swing. Jack Nicklaus said his teacher, Jack Grout, drummed into his head that the only function of the hands is to hold onto the golf club. My own opinion is that each golfer should do what works for him. Trying for a lot of lag and wrist cock and flashing at the ball with my hands doesn't add much distance for me, but one of my friends has big strong hands and wrists and he can really use them, wish I could do the same.
Great players create a lot of pop in the club through impact, which requires mobile wrists. That said ideally you wouldn’t consciously think about your hands/wrists as you hit, but you may have to to in order to create the right habits
@@Scratchgolfacademy Now, most golf instruction has to do with other parts of the body in the downswing. I mainly experimented with the arms, wrists and hands. Why? Because I saw a guy stand on one leg and hit a ball 240 yards. Snapping the wrists or rolling the arms works if you can time it, and I played with the arm roll release for a long time. I used a custom made extra long driver. I still have it, but I had it reshafted and it never hit right for me again. Thanks for the vid and the reply!
Hi Adam, I've been using your release for a while now and love it. Just wanted to check about the specific time to start the release? Is it hands in front of rear thigh or earlier etc. Also, is it the same release point for different clubs? I've heard that driver should be released earlier. Cheers!
Thanks Ryan. Ultimately the later the release (assuming we can square the club up consistently) the more power. Naturally a driver would be more about power than a wedge, but you can dial it in according to the needs of the shot. All the best, Adam
I used the paintbrush tip in my round yesterday and hit probably the purest 5 irons in my life. Only problem it went 188 instead of 172. 😂 I’ll take that problem all day!
Hi Adam - i think your „Snap“ is triggered a bit too early, at least for someone like me.... it would lead to an early release (correct words in English? I mean the club hits the ball before the hands has passed it). For me it is helpful to fire that snapping as late as possible.
It would be helpful if you were able to illustrate the swing with a “slo-mo” video. You explain everything very nicely but, for me, as a visual learner, your swing happens too fast for me to be able to see what actually happens during the swing path
I have a neutral grip and whenever I try to "snap" my wrists during my drives I get these HUGE slices. If I don't try to snap my wrists then it's usually straight. It's extremely frustrating
This is exactly what I needed to get back on track. It goes great with your other video: th-cam.com/video/QGMMjaL68Ac/w-d-xo.html I've been experimenting with different releases and feels all winter. I hit my best after seeing this video and the one I linked. I'm getting back to this release. I just need to tweak it so that I don't hook so much.
So you're suggesting that we swing the club at the ball and force the release with our hands? Granted I'm a high hcp'er but I hit the ball best when I let the club do the work and let the unhinging happen more freely and naturally. Its almost impossible to control the timing when attempting to intentionally hit the ball by snapping the club with my hands.. Such a confusing topic that it seems nobody can communicate properly :(
Scott, It doesn't matter what you or I think or say, the ball only reacts to the club. Each individual must find out for themselves what they need, then cultivate it. Many people really need this advice, you may not (I don't in my game), which means you can ignore it. Hope this helps. Best, Adam
