    Could you make a video on the possibilities for UX specializations? You mentioned AI, AR, and block chain tech and I just wanted to know more. I love the integration of psychology in interaction design and research and I myself went to school for philosophy so anything that also contemplates the ethics of ai and design in tech would be fascinating as well

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I would love to create videos on these topics! I too share a passion for how design intersects with these various fields from an interdisciplinary perspective, particularly given my background in Architecture. In the meantime, you can explore the broader realm of UX within the design field. You'll come across numerous interconnected design domains that delve into criticism, philosophy, and ethics from the perspective of user experience and product design. I'll definitely add this to my list. Thank you! 😊

    Thanks for sharing your resume journey! It's super helpful for me to improve mine! I've always been confused about the format... some say formal works better, some root for creative, and some say better to have both... Can you also share your tips on font sizes for body text? What's the smallest size you recommend? Does that matter for a digital resume? I'm wondering if there's a way to put all the text up there without feeling too crowded or too hard to read🤔
    Btw, your thesis - "How can we design better work spaces for introverts and extroverts?" sounds so cool haha😆

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a great idea! I think that playing with don’t sizes is definitely something you can try, just remember about accessibility and readability. I would say that the best approach is to edit and maybe link to your LinkedIn profile if you have a really long work experience. That’s why a lot of people say that you should tailor your resume to the job description because that helps you curate what you want to include (I’m starting to realize that now).
      OMG thank you! Maybe I’ll make a video about it but I’m not sure if people will want to watch it 😅

      @SaranaDambadarjaa Thank you!!! Sometimes, just _sometimes_ , the algorithm gets it right haha I used inDesign back then for my resume but I'm sure you can use Canva or Figma today. I would honestly stick to one page and just focus on adding the most relevant information. You can link to your LinkedIn page, website, or summarize old positions into one section to save space. Hope this helps! ✨

  • @thedarkreign_
    @thedarkreign_ ปีที่แล้ว

    This is really helpful, thank you! Your structure places various sections on the skills tab and their relations in a paragraph. Do you believe this is superior to merely listing skills in bullets? Bullet points are commonly used, and I wonder if this might impact ATS scan results.

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! That's a great question. I think that, because we are limited in space, we might need to get creative with how we present information so I would play around with what works best. I'm honestly not an ATS expert but I really don't believe that a resume would get approved because of a formatting decision like that (I could be wrong though lol). I think that, if your resume is catered to the job description, you meet and exceed the minimum requirements, you have a chance of being contacted by the recruiter. Hope this helps!

      This can be true! I actually applied without any referrals because I hate networking haha I will say though, referrals can get your resume noticed and a call with the recruiter but some times they don't work. I've referred 2 people this year and none of them made it to the recruiter call :/ What's really important when you get a referral is that the person has worked with you before and can speak to first person experiences with you (they ask that in the referral) and that you meet all of the minimum qualifications in the job description. Hope this helps and good luck!

    Is it possible for ATS to scan a resume created by Figma and export it as a PDF file? (If all aspects of a good resume were considered.)

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think that as long as it is exported as a PDF it should be fine.. but to be honest I'm not an ATS expert and when I was applying to jobs I literally didn't give ATS that much thought. I just looked at the resumes of people that worked at the companies that I wanted to work at and used them as templates.

  • @nisagulsen6546
    @nisagulsen6546 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey that's an amazing guide, thank you! I just wondered, many sources says that the minimum point size should at least 10, but when I apply it, my body texts look HUUUUGE so I want to keep them around 8-9 points max, is that a problem for ATS to track, what do you think?

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you, and you're very welcome! Oh, I don't know. I have definitely used wayyyy smaller than 10, haha. If you look at my resume template, I used 7 for the smallest font size. To be honest, I never worried about the font size for ATS, only the resume format, and making sure it was a clean/minimal design, but in my opinion, it's really hard to anticipate how these systems truly work. I would say, always go with your gut at the end of the day. 😃

    Thank you for the tips, Ricardo! As a business analyst-turned UX/UI designer, what would you recommend for me updating current resume? Specifically, should I keep all my non-design related past experiences to the resume? (I'm concerning about this way because these are not so much relevant to the UX/UI), or should I only include the ones related to the UX/UI? (in this case, I won't have much) Please advise. Thank you!

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome! Great question. I don't think you need to include all of your work experience; just focus on the most relevant ones. Ideally, keep your resume to one page to ensure that the content is as pertinent to the role as possible. One approach you can take is to summarize your less relevant work experience into one section, covering the years from X to X, and briefly describe the roles you held during that time. Additionally, I suggest emphasizing your experience related to the soft skills required for UX. While many people emphasize technical skills like wireframing and Figma proficiency, soft skills such as the ability to collaborate with cross-functional partners are often some of the most sought-after qualities by hiring managers when considering junior designers.

    I subscribed and thank u so much for this video! What would you suggest for a person (me) who has worked for 5 years as a graphic designer - logo design, brand identity, corporate image, event design, images for social media design etc. - who wants to become a UI designer? How can I propose these skills of mine in such a way as to offer myself as a UI designer, without having had experience in this area? 5 years of graphic design have value... but I have no actual experience in UI, I have done courses and personal projects. How can I customize the resume in this situation? Do you have suggestions?

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You’re very welcome! I think that you could easily transition into design systems which is very similar to brand style guide but includes all of the components that make up the UI (buttons, headers, navigation, etc). That would be great transition project and then you could frame all of these things around an app mockup. Maybe redesign the UI of an app and use that as a case study? There are definitely visual design rules specific to interfaces that you could showcase in this project (like typefaces that are more readable on screens than print). Basically, take all your GD knowledge and adapt it to digital interfaces. Hope this helps and thanks for the support! 💛

    Hey Ricardo! I'm currently looking for a job, I'm and Industrial Designer, but wanted to achieve a Graphic Designer position remotely, I have a main concern here: IF I'M A DESIGNER, does the DESIGN of the resume matters? should I call the visual attention as well or just focus on the information and leave the design simple?, this is something that stops me right now...IDK what to do!! HELP!

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi!!! I think that a lot of people, including myself, run into this question. I mean, we are designers, of course we feel that our resume should be DESIGNED as it is our first impression and a design problem in itself. However, I think that approaching the resume as UX problem instead of an artistic one is what's important here. The resume is not meant to be a showcase of your unique personality or style, it's meant to be a utilitarian tool that communicates WHY you are qualified for a particular role. So, if you think about the resume in that way, you will realize that the design of the resume should solve for one thing: communicating your profile as clearly as possible. With this in mind, I would design the resume to be simple, clean, legible, and as pragmatic as possible to ensure that whoever (or whatever 🤖) is reading it, has no issue processing the information in it. Now, you can always find ways to add your personality through moments of color and some unique typography but usability should be the main focus of the resume. Hope this helps!

    Hey Ricardo! Thanks so much for sharing this! I've watched a bunch of your videos and always find them insightful!
    I was also kind of wondering.. How much coding knowledge does Google expect you to know for your position? I've been kind of struggling with this in my current UI/UX job and wondered if you had the some of the same expectations? I'm currently learning Javascript and I have a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS. I'm also debating on taking some Coursera courses to learn about data bases, but I really wonder if this is all necessary to do UI/UX effectively?

    • @rahpdesign
      @rahpdesign  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much for supporting the content; I'm glad to hear it's been helpful 😊. You actually don't need to know any code for the Interaction Designer role at Google! There's a separate role called UX Engineer, which is a hybrid programmer/UX designer position. Aside from that, you're not expected to know how to code. I did the same thing you did and took some Coursera courses around HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, which has helped me engage better with the front-end engineers during the implementation phase. Some startups require UX designers who can code because, at a startup, you more often than not have to wear multiple hats, whereas at a large tech company like Google, roles are more specialized. Hope this helps! :)
