I love your channel. It has helped me a lot. Man 2023/2024 has been so tough. I’m switching careers with 8 years of design experience. But a lot of HR want UX title experience and didn’t care about my relevant experience. I hope 2025 gets better 😢
Oh trust me, I get it. When I was interning in 2019, I asked my UX manager about my previous experience in Architecture and Graphic Design and she basically said none of it counts towards UX, which I understand shouldn't count towards a senior UX position, but in my opinion, design fundamentals are cross-disciplinary. Truthfully, the reason my visual design skills were so strong was because I had years of graphic design experience prior to switching to UX so, trust me, I know how frustrating it is.
@@rahpdesign yea exactly. I had to take a break from interviewing because some of them made me feel stupid and unqualified. Even though my strength is in UI/visual design. But they see fashion design on my experience and I am put in a specific category in their minds. Being a UX designer is having empathy and unbiased approaches, the irony of it all lol
@@zeirilantiguathis is the problem with non-designers hiring designers. They use cookie cutter methods to hire and it creates a lot of barriers for new designers. Instead of just letting the work speak for itself. Your comment was from a year ago so I hope you have found work by now 😊
The last part of your video really helped me relax! I’m 24 and just graduated with my master's this year. I often feel like I’m in a rush to find a job. I even started an internship last week, but sometimes it feels like it’s just not enough since everyone seems to be competing. I worry that I have less time, but your video and your words made me realize that this is all part of a journey. Thank you!
Aw, I'm glad to hear the video helped! +1 to what Sara said. You're doing great and, you never know, your internship might turn into a full time position :)
Thank you for the practical advice!! I'm midway a UX bootcamp, coming from an apparel graphic design and visual arts background, and have been super discouraged/worried about what the job market will be like in a few months. I appreciate how realistic, yet encouraging you are. Thanks!!
You're very welcome! And don't worry, feeling worried is completely normal. The job market is like investing, hard to time correctly so you're not the only frustrated. Just make sure to make your portfolio feel like an extension of yourself and your interests to help you stand out but you're already in a great starting point with a design background :) Feel free to check out the Discord community if you want to chat with other designers btw, it's still very small but growing discord.gg/FP2pw6wfhp
I’ve been following your videos for a while now, I just want to say thank you so much for all these videos and tips! I am a junior at my BFA in UX, it’s a struggle finding an internship, and your videos help me grow a lot every day 🥰
Hi Andrea! Thanks for the kind words! I'm glad my videos are helpful. Keep up the great work, and don't get discouraged. Keep practicing, networking, and building a strong portfolio. You've got this! ✨
Funny enough I just discovered your channel and hearing you say you have an Interior Design background. I'm literally an Interior Design graduate currently pursuing UX/UI design career
I have a side question - for product managers, do you know if any of them have a masters or mba? I was considering this not only for product design but business management in general
Heyy ricardo. Great video as always. Um...i just had a question. Do you think i should spend a shit ton of money on a bachelors degree in graphic design and then master in a specialized ui ux course OR spend minimal fees on a psych ug degree and then master in ui ux? Im just really confused at this point.
That's a tough one! Have you considered a UX or HCI bachelor's degree at a public university or a university that will give you a scholarship? If you pursue a UX-focused bachelor's, you don't have to get a master's degree, so I would go for something that doesn't break the bank and reduces the amount of time you need to spend in school overall.
OMG I know but that's literally every industry, they always ask for 10 years of experience for junior roles 🤣 Feel free to check out the Discord btw if you want to chat with other designers discord.gg/FP2pw6wfhp
Yo! Just a tickle in my mind.... But how about i edit for ya....... and not flexing but i do got a good portfolio though, edited for Iman gadhzi back in 2020 and 2022, i know that's way back but that flex kinda still works... Haha! 😅

Hi Ricardo, thanks for the video. The intro link is not working and I would love to look into getting mentorship from you.
@@crystalrubydiamond Hi! I just updated the links. I've been trying to find the right platform to host the 1:1 calls and I landed on Topmate for now.

Hi, I have 4 years of frontend engineering experience. Do you think I can apply for a senior UX Designer role, if I want to transition into UX?
Hi, please reupload your whiteboard challenge framework video, it was a fantastic resource, thanks in advance
whats the font you use in the video?
I have a side question - for product managers, do you know if any of them have a masters or mba? I was considering this not only for product design but business management in general
From my experience product managers come from different backgrounds but a lot of them have technical background in software engineering

@rahpstudio alright, thank you so much! ^_^
As a junior it feels like you basically gotta make a job for yourself before you get a job 😂

Alex hormozi says just do an edit and send it over to them they’ll love it more
Hi! Thanks for the offer, I'll definitely consider it in the future if I'm ever looking for an editor.
please don't become a ui ux designer, it's a trap
Cud u explain more
I don't care 😑
UX pretty much saved my life. No hyperbole.
