It leaves a lot to be desired for what I want out of a "Transformers" video game, which is something I can say for all "Transformers" video games, but it's a must-play for any die-hard "Transformers" fan, which is also true for "Transformers: War For Cybertron" and its sequel, "Transformers: Fall of Cybertron".

I never really was too harsh on the story because like G1, it's completely ridiculous and I can't really dislike it for that...
I honestly want a sequel it really deserves a sequel this game actually left me on a cliffhanger

@@EnderTitan We need a sequel! And, since the plans for those vid games to take place in the same universe as "Transformers: Prime" got derailed, they can go in whatever direction they want to.
The games being overlooked had a lot more to do with it than Rise of the Dark Spark. Because ya know, they're actually better than mediocre quality, so of course they were overlooked.
I'm gonna say it, Transformers Devastation is my favorite Platinum Games title and probably one of my favorite beat 'em ups ever made. There are so many nuances to the combat and advanced tech options, it's nuts.
So imagine my joy when I saw this video in my sub feed. :)

Downloaded it when it was free on PS plus and you know what...it was fun af. You actually feel like you're kicking ass when you find your Transformer to use. (Bumblebee can be unstoppable)

Sideswipe and Bumblebee are the best in the game, their combo cancel mechanics make this game super easy tho, but I love it. You can do so many infinites with them also

@@JayPlusForerunner K so I have about 10 more hours of play time since my original reply and I discovered that the parry does have ONE minor use: When you're fighting against a melee enemy that hits multiple times (ie; Elite Seeker), you can parry to stop them from combo-ing you to death. Although I rarely ever get caught in situations like this.

This is my all time favourite transformers game. And I think it’s a shame we will probably never get a sequel and a pay-off for that After credits scene of Nova Prime awakening from the depths of the proudstar

Something funny, I actually killed Menasor in one hit as Wheeljack.
I was pinned in a corner in the air in vehical mode. I used his ultimate attack and my screen flickered black boxes and then Menasor was dead.
The game might’ve accidentally teleported you inside menasor and glitched out your damage Numbers.

This… RIGHT HERE… is (my humble opinion) the VERY BEST of Generation 1.
I see War for Cybertron, Fall of Cybertron and Devastation as the a Transformers I’d ALWAYS wanted.
I play this game * to this day * (farming, uograding weapons, etc), and got it on day 1 release 6 years ago. The artwork, gameplay, script/story, voice acting and overall presentation make this (again, in * my * opinion) the very BEST version of Transformers.
I’m still surprused at how many haven’t played it yet… it’s an absolute masterpiece.

One of my favourite games ever. As a massive G1 Transformers fan, I loved everything about it, still like to crank up my PS3 for the odd game of it from time to time.
... And still, all these years later I'm yet to find an SS Prime's Axe.
Played this on Hard Difficulty and I had a blast man. Definitely the best Transformers game since the Cybertron games.
I really, really like Devistation, such a kick ass game.
And yes, FOC is still the best Trasformers game. Such a shame we don't get any now.

When I first saw that combat system I definitely got that game. I still have it to this day. And also the music is a godsend. Of course when I first heard Blitzwing's theme it made me feel like I was in combat mode.
the story in my opinion was very interesting the fact that optimus has to choose btw preserving his culture or sacrificing it for the sake of earth the twist with nova prime those were some good plot points
The fact you’ve actually played most if not all of the “modern” transformers games just amazes me.
Some sort of brief overview of all of them with your review style would be amazing, but admittedly probably wouldn’t be very popular.
But since Activision no longer has a license to use the IP, you can't get any of their titles digitally and will need to find a physical copy.

I really need to give this one a try. My favorite TF game is definitely Armada on PS2, so many hidden gems like that one during the era. I like WFC and FOC too.
It’s actually criminal that not only can we not play any of cybertron nor devastation games anymore but that we ll likely never get a decent sequel for any of them spiritually or narratively
One of my best memories from this game was battling starscream while being teleported to the con’s base. My health was at it’s lost point, point somehow I managed to carry on to dodge every other attack and kick his ass. It was beautiful, intense, and breath taking.
War for Cybertron, that was one of my first games ever played, never managed to finish it. So many memories from that game. Rock on Whitelight!

How can I forget a masterpiece
I’ve never forgotten, because I’m still waiting anxiously for it to be put back on steam, especially with Hasbro reconciling with Activision after the merger, for a lack of a better term.
Someone uploaded a video about 10 XBOX 360 games that he feels should be sought out for a persons library and Transformers: Devastation was one of them.
I have a document in which I (try) to keep track of all video game purchases, but when I looked through my list, Devastation was nowhere to be found. I knew I had it so I searched through my collection of games starting with the PS4 and there is was, the PS4 version. I clearly remember after finding it that I got the very last (gutted) copy several months after the game launched. Even then, the game was difficult to find, especially a new copy.
I say that to say that I hope you find away to play it or a physical copy if that is what you are looking for.
License games are always tricky, because there is a high probability that the rights of the game switches hands which could mean bad news for a reprint after being on the market for a few years, a remake, or rerelease.
Lesson learned for me is to add all remaining games I own to my documents so that there is no question whether I own a physical copy should I need to know without having to search through my collection.
Well, 30 seconds into the video, I'm glad someone still remembers this game. It might be a bit repetitive, but the soundtrack is incredible and the fighting system is very solid and rewarding if you're good enough. Like that game, and thank you for remembering it too.

They had good stories and voice acting, but i could never get past the Bay inspired character designs
@@whodatninja439 i personally think they look fantastic. The characters designs are a nice blend between the G1 design and the 3d nature of the game. And the transforming animations are second to none. Also I personally don't see the visual connection to Bay's Transformer design.

@@whodatninja439 Bay had really nice looking character designs so I don't see how that's a problem. Plus, the game looks closer to the G1 designs than Bay's designs.

I love this game, the combat, the music, the graphics, it's all so awesome. I wish there would be a Devastation 2 but the chance is likely just as much as we would get a Revengeance 2 at this point.

this was wonderful going back into this game with you and on a whole you have to be the best reviewer on youtube hands down and if i wasn't not old enough to get a job i would totally be a member of your patreon,i hope you do more videos like this you can really make this a series and if you do i think you should do a kinda old stealth game called aragami to me it's a gem of a game but it got swipe under the rug so i think you should check it out this isn't just for whitelight if your reading this check out the game you can find the game for around 20 dollars and its well worth the price to me keep up the good work whitelight
Thanks for doing this video. It needed to be made for this game. I bought it recently and I feel like it is very underated. It’s a near perfect Transformers game. And I was surprised by the story too. I expected this game to be more arcady without an interesting story but it was actually preety interesting.

Holy shit, thanks for this video. I recently started playing Devastation because it's one of the only Platinum Games titles that I haven't played at that point and it quickly became one of my favourites. That fucking OST, man.
This was a great first effort. Art style was superb. Combat did get repetitive after awhile but I was SOOO confused by the loot system that let you scrap a weapon to upgrade another. The Nova Prime tease at the end really had me jonesing for a sequel. Would want a lot more combiners like Predaking, Momstructor, Abominus and the Seacons.

we need a proper transformers game like the 2007 movie based one and the revenge of the fallen xbox 360/pc game, but with it's own story and maybe even in the G1 designs instead of the movie ones, you have no idea of what i'd do just to see Sideswipe and Optimus Prime in today's graphics.

I got this game for free via PS Plus years ago and it surprised me to no end how great it was; and how big of a nostalgia trip it was. The only downside was how few characters were playable. When guys like Shockwave, Blitzwing, etc show up, I want to play them. But, still great stuff.

Man I had a blast with this game. One of those games I couldn't put down and I played it consistently until I beat. Usually I lose focus of a game and start playing a different one but this game had me hooked. Beautiful visuals, music, and fun fast paced combat.
I need a sequel to this game, probably won't happen but if only.

Perfect timing, I thought yesterday "What happened to that G1 Transformers game?" and went looking for this. Unfortunately it seems like you can't get this for PC anymore due to licencing stupidity. Glad this turned up in my TH-cam feed though, so thanks.
FYI, being Captain Pedantic here, but you mention in the video about only being able to take out guys with shields with rush attacks. There are actually quite a few other ways to do it too. Laser guns can shoot through them. Reversals with any character will work. Optimus's trailer slam special move breaks shields and Bumblebee's special lets him slide behind them and back attack. Grimlock's Dino form shove attack will smash shields and all his grab counters (and grab special move) will also work on them.

Blitzwing is still such a horseshit bossfight. And that soundtrack....sweet merciful lord it is beautiful.

Imagine if the underground segments were in a subway and one of the times you were forced to go down into the subway, Astrotrain appears and you have to fight him. It would be a great surprise boss that takes a clever twist on the tunnels because you expect it to be just another boring trek through a boring tunnel and boom, bossfight

I agree Fall of Cybertron is underrated. I just bought a PS3 like 2 years ago, I bought that game since I missed out on it when I was younger and I loved it so much. Even though the numbers aren't huge online, the online was so much fun! The transforming mechanic really made it feel like a nice spin on traditional shooters
This was one of my favorite games when I where younger, my dad said that I would get it if I learned to ride a bike (even tho he already had it cuz ps plus) and after that I played it a bunch

A: the lack of playable decepticons. Seriously, i need to get dlc just to play as any form of Decepticon.
B: lack of co-op. There are 5 autobots to play as in every chapter. So why not a splitscreen mode?
Agreed. Instead of having the other 4 bots suddenly disappear even though the previous cut scene had them all together, why not let other people jump in to play as them?

On the larger bosses like Devastator , you should to trhe arial heavy attack.
It doesn't do a lot of damage per hit, but hits continously as you fall, dealing devastating (pun intended) damage.
Also, there IS a parry.
Unlocked from the store, the parry is used by moving your stick, or WASD towards the attack as its about to hit you.
The thing about the parry is that even though it's not as effective in combat as dodging due to it's risk, it is however still useful since many of the ranged attacks in the game are parriable and will have you grab and carry the projectile. This projectile can then be thrown at enemies to stun them, opening them up for heavy rush attacks, which can usually hit multiple enemies, but upon being destroyed, the projectiles usually drop either ammo or health, bith of which are a valuable resource.
Additionally, the rush attacks can also be triggered by hitting a headshot with your ranged weapons, meaning that you don't actually need to wait to hit max speed and just need to utilize your entire arsenal.
If you press triangle/Y for a rush attack Optimus, Wheeljack, and Sideswipe do a cool dropkick, Bumblebee does this sick ass spinning move, and Grimlock does a belly flop
Was confirmed a few months ago Ubisoft and a few companies that worked on COD and Halo online have in fact been working on a new Transformers game
Love how they incorporate weapons from different iterations for each characters and the combat was so satisfying(no surprise coming from Platinum) Still hoping by some miracle we’d get a sequel one day.

A couple mistakes you made, there is a parry, you can buy it from the shop, and you can destroy shieplds without rush attacks, by charged hammer attacks

I didn"t even know Transformers had a single game in all honesty. Outside of Spiderman and later on Batman I didn't realize Super Hero's actually had games until a couple of years ago. I am glad you like them though.
I like how you break down a game. Its pretty much on par with raycevick. I've been looking for more high quality people like him, who know what they are talking about. Such nice material to just sit back and relax. Or play, while playing a single player survival game like minecraft/7 days to die.

Sadly you cannot buy this game digitally on any if the platforms it was out on. But physical copies still exist on ps3, xbone 360, etc... so yeah. Also the dlc the game had is also gone.
A very good game developer with a high quality track record for good videogames gets a chance to make a G1 Transformers videogame and they put it on PS3 and Xbox 360 then ported it to Xbox one and PS4 and most of the vocal "we want G1 Transformers games" fans just didn't show up to buy it in significant numbers.
Too much criticism for an arcade style game that wasn't in the arcades and the game dev even said they wanted to add more but needed to see the actual sales for the publisher to approve a sequel...
That is why there is no sequel.

No, no, it actually has a parry. It's a move that you can buy but it's extremely hard to do. Harder than in Metal Gear Rising. Instead of moving the stick in the direction of the attack and pressing X or Square in time, you only have to move the stick... which makes it annoyingly hard to time correctly. I managed to get the "Catch!" achievement by parrying Blitzwing's missile, Scrapper's boulder and both Bonecrusher and Devastator's drills (yes, you can actually parry and catch Devie's huge-ass drill).
I'm not gonna lie, I love Platinum games and I would ADORE to see them make a game of Swat Kats
