High Moon also did the Dark of the Moon game on PS3/360. It’s the only movie game I somewhat enjoyed even with all the flaws and glitches which really felt like Activision was pressuring them to finish it and ship it as is.
Fall of cybertron is one of my favorite games of all time. The multiplayer was really fun and the campaign was just an incredible thrill ride of a story. I wish I still had my copy of the game
I’m an 80’s kid and G1 Transformers was hands down my favorite childhood toy. I was VERY jaded by the Michael Bay re-interpretation of the Transformers, so when War for Cybertron came out, I was overjoyed. It was the first Transformers ANYTHING since the 80’s that truly recaptured that G1 spirit. I cried the first time I played the game. Fall of Cybertron refined the formula to a sheen. Totally agree it’s the best Transformers game ever. I miss High Moon, and am forever grateful for them giving us those two special games.

The PS2 Armada game was awesome, especially the boss fights. I'll never forget playing through an entire warship level and then turning around and watching the whole thing transform into Tidal Wave. The mobile RID game with the scannable toys was a great game too. One of the best beat em ups for mobile imo.
As an 11 year old that was always looking at the back of game cases to see the size of games back in the day, i for some reason thought the more gigabytes a game had the better it would be. When I got a DS lite and got transformers 1 as a gift I saw it was only 400MB, so I thought it would be terrible and I never played it 🤣. Glad I learned that isn’t the case with games lmao
That's funny because now I tend to associate great games with small file size. AAA games these days tend to be bloated and soulless monstrosities upwards of 150 gigs whereas virtually all of the modern creativity and inspiration comes from indie games which are routinely less than 1gb. Pretty impressive when you think about it.
Transformers 1 on the DS is awesome (especially the Decepticons versions), I dare say it's even better than the home console version since you don't even need to deal with human characters at all (so those that dislike the main human characters from the movie will have a better time on the DS). Plus it was made by Vicarious Visions, the same guys that did the two excellent Crash Bandicoot platformers on the Game Boy Advance (Crash Bandicoot: The Huge Adventure and Crash Bandicoot 2: N-Tranced) as well as the great GBA versions of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2-4, and the two excellent remasters Crash Bandicoot: N-Sane Trilogy and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1+2.
@godless1014 For me, when I see games with 100GB+ file sizes, I usually get the impression that they are live service games that require constant updating, which isn't ideal for me since my internet is fairly basic by today's standard.

It's unfortunate because imo it's the best Transformers game. It has some of my favourite boss fights of any game I've ever played. The helicopter boss on top of the Mayan ruins where he can literally throw you off the side and continue to fight you throughout the entire map blew my mind as a kid. Typically a fight like that you'd get thrown off and just die in other games but not this one. Then there's the giant ship that you infiltrate only for it to transform and chase you across islands as you run away and slowly chip down it's health. I'm rambling but this game deserves way more attention.

Dark of the moon actually came out in 2011, after War for Cybertron in 2010. Activision split up High Moon into teams to work on Dark of the Moon and Fall of Cybertron. They were able to work on that using a lot of existing assists from previous games, while the main team focused on Fall of Cybertron in 2012, and then moved onto Deadpool.
going with a gen 1 inspired art style for the cybertron games was such a genius move, it’s definitely one of the elements of the game’s presentation that really stands out. Dude. Thank you. I have been trying to find RotF for AGES, and whenever I did see gameplay, I just wrote it off because the HUD looks nothing like I remember, but as soon as I saw that city in the opening I knew it was the game. I haven't played this game in years. Again, thank you.
1:24 Personal Mini-Review of this game (I just beat both campaigns today): What I don't understand about this game is how it holds back itself, especially the Hero/Autobot campaign. The game is all about destruction and being a massive robot with missles (of course its Transformers), yet most enemies are IMMUNE to missles and you are forced to just punch, turning the gameplay into a shore bcuz the melee combat in this game is janky. The gameplay was clearly made around the Third Person Shooter, but the enemies weren't. At the same time, when you're in a Hero campaing, it simply doesn't let you be destructive, and punishes you for it, while also having the most boring and repetitive mission designs and enemies design. Like run at this random spot, chase this guy from point A to B, and then fight the 40th tanky enemy with Hyperarmor in the middle of the city, before he runs off and you chase him again. But thats the HERO campaign that is, bcuz yes, in this game you can play as rhe Decepticons. In there, the missions are more diversified for some reason, and you're rewarded for destroying everything. And I wonder... why? I love playing as the bad guys but isnt being Optimus Prime and Bumblebee the main point? why hold them back in boring missions that in majority, are not even involved in fighting enemies that doesn't tank nearly every unique attack each character have? Like Optimus Prime have the STRONGEST missles and guns, but the slowest melee attack and heaviest driving. Yet, all the missions you play with him, is about *races* or just fighting enemies that are *immune* to missles and to melee too 50% of the time. Why even give the characters different movesets anyways? Also yes, all the Melee attacks of all of them are the same, except, again, for some reason, the Decepticons... And the Decepticon/Evil campaign also got more diversified quests. Like find this data by destroying multiple military bases, or hunt down flying jets, or scort your ally through the base whicu somehow isnt nowhere near anything in the Hero campaign. Most unique mission in the Autobots was when Bumblebee was in a nilitary facility, but those were a shore. I won't even explain why, who knows, knows. I guess the devs just were forced to make the hero campaign as close to the movie as possible, and could work on things actually fun for the Evil perspective as they're mostly background events in the desert, while the main story happens somewhere else in the city. Meaning they could actually cook in the gameplay, and be creative. Almost makes me wish for an tie-movie of this movie that could be original, like movie games of Spiderman for example.
War and fall of cybertron will always be my favorite transformer games, they modernized the g1 characters so well and being able to experience more of the cybertronian War is always a plus in my book. My favorite character to play was combaticon vortex.
The coolest thing about the War for Cybertron games was that it setup an entire universe. I loved Transformers Prime when i was little so finding out that Prime is actually a sequel to Fall of Cybertron was mind blowing.
LT accelerate and RS look are good controls because it’s a shooter with driving elements and vehicle strafing, like Halo. Also High Moon made Dark Of The Moon between the two Cybertron games but with less dev time than those
Good point, Strike Suit Zero uses the right bumper targeting lock on mechanics and uses the left stick to aim, which is awful but if you swap it works well.
the Cybertron games were the most fun I had online in a very very very long time. The multiplayer - running around maps and clicking a button to transform/movement speed was just untouchable. very fun combat.
I wish he talked about the Transformers game on the PS2, the one that kinda looks like Armada, where you travel to the Amazon, Antarctica, etc. I love that game, the minicom system was awesome, and everytime I replay it, it kinda kicks my ass at first.
I loved the OG movie tie-in game and the High Moon Cybertron games as a kid, they were my shit growing up and I'd play them constantly. Something I wanna shout out that's not mentioned here are the DS games, specifically the first movie tie-in DS games. There was an Autobots and a Decepticons version, kinda like Pokémon where there's two versions of the same game, but I had a lot of fun with it. You had your own transformer and you could scan/transform into any vehicle within the game and I'd spend hours just pulling GTA style shenanigans as a Decepticon. No idea if they still hold up, but as a kid that probability didn’t know better and just loved Transformers no matter what I enjoyed them.
Man Transformers Devastation, i remember loving the graphics and the combat was amazing but i knew it was gonna be because of Platinum games but i hate we didn't get a sequel since we get baited in the post credits scene
Out of all of these games, the Cybertron games deserve a remaster on modern consoles. I mean can you imagine how awesome those environments alone would look on modern engines
i wish for a double remaster of the cybertron games, they were so underrated and are probably the best transformers games were ever gonna get, but im hoping for reactivate to be good
!!!ENER-JOHN!!! Cybertron games were great on 360 and I still own them.. Looking forward to seeing if/how the 360 versions can be emulated on Steam Deck since the PC versions were de-listed from Steam some time back.
I finally played Devastation like a month ago and on PC to make it even better. It easily became one of my top 10 games after I finished. Thank you, Platinum.
@@mallow2902 I honestly have to idea how I ever beat this on medium, I was a pretty bad gamer then. Now I'm upgraded to middling (I can beat Nightmare King Grimm in Hollow Knight after a LOT of effort but no way am ever doing the pantheon challenges) In my last play I actually had fun with Trypticon, but I think that's only because Omega defense desensitized me to getting crushed over and over again. That and I picked Bumblebee who's by far the most mobile, and learned I could leap over the spiders in car form.
One of the first games i ever played was the First Movie tie in on the Wii, the camera was a nightmare, but i still enjoyed it. My dad had the 2nd movie tie in so i played it out of bordem. Then you get to the High Moon Games. I remember getting a broken copy of Rise of the Dark Spark, where you could never get past the loading screen when you find the first weapons terminal. Fall of Cybertron was the best yet, i had a copy at both my moms house and my dads, spent a lot of time on the Escalation modes. Devastation was a departure from what i was used too but i still enjoyed it. I wish i could turn back the clock as the Multi-player modes are now shut down, and the consoles i played them on are now outdated and either didn't stand the test of time or are now buried in a storage room. Hopefully the new game Transformers: Reactivate will recapture that Spark (no pun intended) that i felt playing the old games, they've been quiet since they revealed the trailer at the Game Awards last year, so perhaps well be get some news on that soon.
The final mission of Fall of Cybertron was just *chefskiss* superb! The idea to switch between almost all characters you played in the previous chapters sounds very gimmicky on paper and kinda risky if you don't pull it off well. But boy, did they deliver here. What a fantastic game for a old school TF fan. And War for Cybertron was great too.
Thanks for this video. I really hope if Microsoft does pull this off they bring back all of these . Never got a war for cybertron port so crossing my fingers
The thing about the High Moon Studios driving controls is they made 2 modes for vehicle mode. Combat and driving and to be honest, driving is secondary. You're really just using it to either drive in a straight line or escape the enemy in multiplayer. When you're mostly in combat mode, it makes sense for RT to be guns instead of drive.
I cannot fathom how the Cybertron games exist and are as good as they are. They're arguably better than a vast majority of stuff today, and the Fall being the sequel is just better in every way, which is kind of rare even back in the day.
I know the servers are down for most of them, but when Microsoft buys Activision, even though Microsoft stopped with Backwards compatibility, i think they should go up to Hasbro and ask them if they could make some of the Transformers games Backwards compatible
I'll say this fpr War, the Autobot campaign is insanely difficult cpmpared to Fall. It's all about the Horde mode like gauntlets, culminating with Omega Supreme's defense from some 10-12 waves of enemies. Tbh it was almost frustratingly difficult at times. Fall is definitely the better experience as a completely package, with Grimlocks chapters standing out as clearly Warhammers Space Marine influenced, from the way Grimlock shakes the ground as he moves, the melee focus, the tons of mobs swarming you. Very fun.
All jokes aside this is the new "back in my day" for alot of people at first it was the retro arcades packman Mario n64 now its transformers the batman arkham series and more it's crazy how in perspective the "back in my day" has changed
Those 2 Cybertron games are incredible. It’s a crime we don’t have them at 60fps on modern consoles. Also the FoC soundtrack is so damn good

The "controls how they're supposed to be" bits kind of give the energy of "if forward isn't W, your head goes on a pike".
I had the original Transformers on the Ps2, and it just brings me back thinking about it. Thanks man!
Dude. Thank you. I have been trying to find RotF for AGES, and whenever I did see gameplay, I just wrote it off because the HUD looks nothing like I remember, but as soon as I saw that city in the opening I knew it was the game. I haven't played this game in years. Again, thank you.
The Cybertron games were amazing. I got Fall of Cybertron around when it came out and then my PS3 stopped working. Never got to finished that game.
I absolutely love the first movie game it's so good, the little open world for each level was awesome, I used to play so much in just free roam
I’ve probably finished the WFC and FOC stories like 10 times each, so good
1:24 Personal Mini-Review of this game (I just beat both campaigns today):
What I don't understand about this game is how it holds back itself, especially the Hero/Autobot campaign.
Devastation and Turtles in Time are my two favorite games of all time. Nothing like a perfect button masher to give you that video game fix.
War and fall of cybertron will always be my favorite transformer games, they modernized the g1 characters so well and being able to experience more of the cybertronian War is always a plus in my book. My favorite character to play was combaticon vortex.
That “combiner wars devastator” was yes a promotion for a new figure back in 2015, but it wasn’t a model kit. Just letting you know
There was a Transformers game on PS2 that was pretty good.
The coolest thing about the War for Cybertron games was that it setup an entire universe. I loved Transformers Prime when i was little so finding out that Prime is actually a sequel to Fall of Cybertron was mind blowing.
0:58 Hairy potter? Weird subject for a retrospective but ok.
Transformers armada 😩💦💦
I like the idea that these alien robots knew what cars were before they came to Earth.
I recently found transformers devastation CIB at a dollar general lol. Was shocked. It was a Redbox copy it seems but great condition
I loved being able to play as starscream flying around destroying stuff as he was my favorite character in the movie
2004 transformer on the ps2 was so addicting to me 5-7 year old mind
There was no TF game in 2004...
Man Transformers Devastation, i remember loving the graphics and the combat was amazing but i knew it was gonna be because of Platinum games but i hate we didn't get a sequel since we get baited in the post credits scene
I wish you had gone back as far as the ps1/N64 gen with these but great video as always 🤍
Wow! This VIDEO™ was great. I HIGHLY™ enjoyed it. PLEASE™ continue to MAKE™ more.
I watched Muzzafuzza all the time, thanks for the throwback Matty.
I was looking for this. ENER-JON
ENER-JON QUBES
I finally played Devastation like a month ago and on PC to make it even better. It easily became one of my top 10 games after I finished. Thank you, Platinum.
been a transformers fan since 2007 and the cybertron games are so fucking incredible. Literally any transformers fan's wet dream.
I still love the bayverse first game on PS2/Xbox. And the two on ds where you were either an autobot or Decepticon and got to change your alt mode.
Remember games I played last year.
Man, that Omega Supreme defense on hard mode is BRUTAL.
One of the two hardest parts of the game, alongside Trypticon. Those two parts were quite hard even on Medium difficulty.
@@mallow2902 I honestly have to idea how I ever beat this on medium, I was a pretty bad gamer then. Now I'm upgraded to middling (I can beat Nightmare King Grimm in Hollow Knight after a LOT of effort but no way am ever doing the pantheon challenges)
In my last play I actually had fun with Trypticon, but I think that's only because Omega defense desensitized me to getting crushed over and over again. That and I picked Bumblebee who's by far the most mobile, and learned I could leap over the spiders in car form.
War & Fall of Cybertron I love these games wish they would have done Part 3 where they landed in earth it would have been awesome end to a trilogy
We have a new game coming up: Transformers: Reactivate.
You forgot to mention the absolute blast of a soundtrack.
Man I remember my old man being so excited to take me to see the 2007 movie and I lost my mind that movie hit different
fall of cybertron to this day is still one of my favorite games. even the trailers went hard on it
War For Cybertron was my MW2😂. Played online so hard, and had a great time!
Maaaan, i was looking forward to seeing you talk about the ps2 armada game, its such a classic
i remember renting Revenge of the Fallen multiple weeks in row from RedBox because of how fun it was
Maaaan after my heart. These were my favorite for so long. I'm playing rise of the dark spark on Wii u as I type
I cannot fathom how the Cybertron games exist and are as good as they are. They're arguably better than a vast majority of stuff today, and the Fall being the sequel is just better in every way, which is kind of rare even back in the day.
WAR FOR CYBERTRON CAME OUT , 2 months later my father passed away…. He was the one who Engulfed me into Transformers & All those 80s cartoons!
I know the servers are down for most of them, but when Microsoft buys Activision, even though Microsoft stopped with Backwards compatibility, i think they should go up to Hasbro and ask them if they could make some of the Transformers games Backwards compatible
I never thought I would see Dax Shepherd review Transformers video games!
Need to see you do the Beast Wars games and the PS2 Transformers game.
That Gordon Ramsay line was effed up lmao
I'll say this fpr War, the Autobot campaign is insanely difficult cpmpared to Fall. It's all about the Horde mode like gauntlets, culminating with Omega Supreme's defense from some 10-12 waves of enemies. Tbh it was almost frustratingly difficult at times.
Fall is definitely the better experience as a completely package, with Grimlocks chapters standing out as clearly Warhammers Space Marine influenced, from the way Grimlock shakes the ground as he moves, the melee focus, the tons of mobs swarming you. Very fun.
Why didn’t you cover the PS2 armada game, great video none the less
Dude! Lol 😂it’s Ener-JOHN 😂
honestly I love devastation bc it's essentially the transformers version of metal gear rising, both are literally made by platinum games
Been waiting on this one for so long...👍🏾👍🏾
All jokes aside this is the new "back in my day" for alot of people at first it was the retro arcades packman Mario n64 now its transformers the batman arkham series and more it's crazy how in perspective the "back in my day" has changed
Transformers 2 revenge of the fallen one of the best games I ever played
