    Post-Processing Effects, is a great way of telling the player how is doing. Meaby desaturating the colors more and more to indicate that you are running out of stamina. At the same time, the charecter can become less and less responsive, make less damage, move slower, or you could turn on the physics of the arms, so they fall down, and the player can not punch or cover...

      Also do a vignette effect! Like you are so out of stamina, that you can‘t focus on your surroundings anymore. At the same time the player is focused on the opponent!

      You cant do post processing as it would affect the camera filter for both players since you're only using 1 camera. Making the character less responsive will make the punching player snowball really hard so whoever punches first wins. Turning the physics down for the arms could interfer with gameplay since it feels like you are using physics simulation for your punches and this could make them really innacurate as they would be starting from a lower angle, making it hard to land on the rival. What I suggest is that you use an additive pose in your animbp and create a blend mapping the stamina value to 0-1. This pose could just be the idle pose for the character but you could bend down his spine a bit in a way he looks exhausted, try to not bend it too much as if you do the head will be hard to hit.

      Nacho Santana You are right camera filters only work for online MP or dual screen local MP. I think you could just make the player with less stamina react slower. In that way a punch hits as hard as the opponents but you‘ll need better timing because auf the slower motion of your character.

      @@Zoltec-q1g There would also be a way of simulating pp fx within the character's material. If desaturation is what he wants all he has to do is throw in a desaturation node and a scalar parameter into the base color of the material. Then just create a dynamic mat instance and map the desaturation scalar parameter to the stamina

    You could add a "sweating" and desaturation as their stamina drains, and add all sorts of grunge and wearing as their health go down. Kind of like worn out toys.

    Dude ! That's epic !
    So much content and victory in that episode ;)
    The gist of being a game dev, it's awesome.
    For your health and stamina bars, here are a couple ideas that i'm trying in my own game developpement and other at the top of my head :
    - Desaturate the skin color when the health goes down
    - Desaturate the short color when the stamina goes down
    - Red Vignette effect more and more intense when the health goes down
    - Desaturate the whole image with health or stamina going down.
    - Fish eye, blur... all kind of lens effects can actually be helpfull.
    - You can reduce the physics with Stamina, making your character "goofy".
    Hope to play that game one day, it's gonna be tremendous !

    I see alot of comments about the stamina indicators and post processing, the problem with that is then in local multiplayer there’s a shared screen and then a shared stamina indicator which wont work at all. Instead, you could try de-saturating the character itself by adjusting the material mid game or you could just de-saturate part of it like the gloves.
    If none of that works dont be afraid to just attach a bar to the character, For Honor is a game triple A game alot like this and it uses bars and it works fine

    It might work to incorporate the stamina bar into the band on the back of the boxers shorts. This would allow you to see exactly how much stamina you have and how much you’re using without being distracting. It would also prevent you from seeing you opponents stamina which could add more depth to the gameplay so you’re not only swinging when your opponents stamina is empty. Great work on the game so far, you’ve inspired me to try out unreal engine!

    Only half an idea but I think the stamina meter (however it ends up looking) should be somewhere around the character so you can see it without looking away (like you said) but it should only appear when something happens to it. Basically when the stamina isn’t going up or down it I think it should fade away so it isn’t taking up space/obscuring the view on the screen

    Here's a suggestion for the stamina UI. there could be a button that the player could push and while the button is held down, the UI could be shown, like above or below the player, but only while the button was being held.

    I have an idea for the game
    1.There is a campaign where you fight bosses, and if you win there is a tiny chance you'll get their special move:
    Scottie "Boom" Black:
    Nationality: Irish
    Special Move: Corkscrew Punch
    (Your fist twists and has a tornado-like effect on his fist when you use a straight right and it does slightly more damage)
    Weaknesses: he has a weak guard

    I have an idea for the stamina, when you throw a punch, a percentage could come up like in a comic book style. And they would be colored differently ((Maybe red for Player One and blue for Player Two) and maybe if it's a player vs COM game you could only show the players stamina))

    Why not change the character's skin color depending on the stamina level? Giving it a more desaturated look the more you run out of stam. Anyway, great episode but felt too short, see you next week!

    For the stamina bar maybe you could make a circle laying on the ground around the character, similar to the circles you see in RTS games when you select units.

    Ideas for stamina and health HUD:
    - Two circles on the back of the player, one inside the other, that lose arcs as a stat goes down.
    - Use post-processing to desaturate the model as health or stamina gets low. This has the benefit of showing how the enemy's stats are.
    - Add damage spots to the model, like black eyes or bruises. The more you have the lower your health.
    - Use the color of the gloves to indicate stats. Like the left glove is the health and as you get lower is gets closer to white or black. You could even do two different colored gloves to make it easily identifiable.
    One more thing I would recommend is sticking with common colors for things like health and stamina. Using blue for stamina is perfect but generally, health is red unless it goes from green to red as it decreases.
    Amazing work! Can't wait to play it!

    Firstly let me just say that the game looks AWESOME! so far.
    Then I want to add some suggestions:
    1. Facial expression - Just simple eyes and a mouth, then when the the player gets hit he/she/it could change their expression. Just to show that some punches really hurt.
    2. Silky-Smooth Shorts - Cloth simulation on the shorts would make it look great.
    3. Stamina - It's hard to focus on the game while the stamina bar is in the corner, so maybe adding a 2 rings around the player. One the health and the other for the stamina. If you use a translucent material for the rings, check in the material details panel, there is an option called "Disable Depth Test" it would make it visible even if its behind the player.

    For the stamina you could cahange the colors of that white belt from the pants like when your stamina is full it goes white and if it goes black it means you have no more stamina or use
    the belt like a a stamina bar, when you have 50% stamina half of the belt is white and the other half is black

    I have an idea for the stamina system, how about doing it a bit like the first insurgency, when the more exhausted you are the more visible there is an overlay which shows sweat droplets on screen, you still see everything, but you can easily see when you should slow down

    This first one is primarily for split screen, but I’m sure a smart guy like you can use it for anything; Post processing is going to be huge in a game like this. Your stamina can be expressed by a darker overlay or tunnel vision type thing. Vignetting I believe is the proper term for it.
    You could also have a slight color change in the overall FOV, like instead of a black vignetting it’s red. That could also be for health.
    Either that, or this;
    I believe you touched up on this, however I’ll say it anyways. You can have an outline of a circle to display stamina and health. It slowly deteriorates over time.
    I guess you could also physically show your character moving slowly, drooping a little bit, and throwing slower punches.
    Team Colors:
    Just do different boxing glove colors and shorts colors. Make them a huge difference so you can clearly tell.
    Also those figurines look hot.

    This might be a dumb idea but I thought for the stamina bar you could do something with the arena. My first thought was a circle in the middle that would display your stamina. But obviously there are probably better options. Just an idea opener 🙂

    maybe you can have one green ring around the characters feet and a stamina blue ring inside of that. Give it a gloss and transparency and if it's in the way, make it fade out if the character isn't receiving any updates.

    For the stamina bars you could have your punches get slower and maybe have the character hunch over to show hes tired an he gets less vibrant and maybe have the punching effects not appear

    i think for stamina you should have a blur effect, so the camera so slowly goes more and more blurry. a bit like what you did to the screen when you punch but over the whole thing

    To put in my 2 cents when it comes to incorporating stamina bars into your character, have it contain both visual and audio clues. As stamina runs out have multiple “landmarks”. landmark 1 for example could be a unique “emote” that pops above the characters head like the “BLAM!” and anime inspired emotes you showed off in your earlier videos. Another “Landmark” could be heavier breathing or a slight creeping color desaturation on the edge and corner of the screen. (Not in local coop)

    When a player wins a match, you should put it into a cinematic shot of the final punch like the part at 2:42, and then a screen should come up saying “player 1 wins” or something like that

    About the calculating the camera location between the players. At 13:28 i seen you just added locations and divided by 2,(you can do it like that but) there is a thing called Lerp (Vector) where you plug in two vectors and Alpha between 0 and 1 (0 is Vector A, 1 is Vector B, 0.5 is in the middle) and tit gives you the location. Hope i helped somehow.

    Love the journey so far. Really inspiring to start putting in the work and get something done myself as i've always been interested in this. Got some few ideas related to stamina.
    - While blocking, instead of having the stamina completely stop, what if you slash the regen speed? make it regen much slower compared to when not doing anything.
    - When the stamina is 0 and the opponent is blocking, you could maybe weaken the block efficiency perhaps? Just a thought.

    Dividing stamina into discrete chunks (into ten pieces or something) rather than having a percentage bar may be easier to read quickly from a glance. Or when you get to half stamina, a little exhausted emote pops up. And getting down to 25% shows an even more exhausted emote

    You should add a jumping attack animation or at least a KO sign when a character is finished(health)

    Great video as always! Congrats on adding the local multiplayer and reaching such a huge milestone.
    I honestly think the colour desaturating is a great way of showing stamina, it adds to this toy/fun like effect I think.
    Or you could always through some particles in of sweating, and maybe change some animations up to show they are taking bigger breaths or something? :)

    You could make it so that when the player is low on stamina it breaths heavier and the breath would be visible. You could also add some other ideas to make it more noticeable.

    Such a quality content, the damage system is the coolest yet complicated thing i see in a while, i can't wait for the next video
    Some fiture suggestion:
    after the game was complete maybe you can add a replay of the game and some cinema effect like in GTA 5.
