  • Looking for how to spray paint your hubcaps black (or any other colour)? Want it to be cheap, easy, fast and reversible? Plasti-dip offer a good solution, but Halfords do their own version for only £9.99 (link below) that works a treat! I was able to spray my hubcaps black in only a few hours, including drying time!
    As part of the pointless polo project, in this video I show you how to spray paint/plasti-dip your hubcaps without breaking the bank, wasting time, or doing a bad job that you can't revert afterwards.
    It honestly doesn't take very long/any time at all, maybe a few hours (but with plenty of time to chill in between stages) and this is definitely a job that beginners can do as well as experts. It's super easy!

    Hoping to bring out content more regularly from now on!

    Tried this with matte black peelable. So far it looks like it’s drying really light. Hope it comes out better than I think it is. If hot I’ll try with this kind of paint next time.

    Debating wether or not to start a series about my 9n on TH-cam as I feel like the little bits that need doing to it would be a fairly interesting watch

    I have done something similar. My polo has the same design wheels as yours although they are alloys so I used different paint. If you want to create a colour scheme or trim colour I would definitely recommend getting an exact knife. When coming to the badges they are on the cover that comes off to access the lug nuts. What I did was I covered the badges in spray paint but then cut around the vow logo and pulled all the in between bits off and sprayed it black, after that I peeled the masking tape off the vwlogo and covered it agin in masking tape but this time I inverted the bits I pulled off. I then spray painted the vw logo red. I did this on the steering wheel too. I did however leave the badges on the boot and bonnet black though because I think it looks better. Let me know what you think

    • @CarsWithJB
      @CarsWithJB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sounds good to me! I need blue VW logos for the new alloys to help with keeping the theme of blue and black, but other than that I'm happy so far. Sounds like you're doing a great job!

      Cars With JB thanks, yours looks great too! I’m a confused about vw’s production of the logo on the steering wheel. Most models like the one you have, have the vw part in silver and the spaces in between in blue, same on the wheels, mine didn’t have that, they where silver and black.

    Will the peelable paint react to any other chemicals like soap or touchless/scrubless tire and rim cleaner?

    So this paint peels off, will it slowly peel off later in it's lifespan?

  • @mikepeugeot7344
    @mikepeugeot7344 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know a lot about hubcaps myself because I'm a collector, now that paint is good to peel off but the paint will just come off when you hit curbs and then the hubcaps would look weird. I like them but just be careful

    • @CarsWithJB
      @CarsWithJB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I found that the paint faded after a couple of months despite being careful around curbs etc - the rain wasn't too kind to them. I have alloys on the car now anyway!

    • @CarsWithJB
      @CarsWithJB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question, no idea - I cleaned them quite a few times by hand and had no issues, but I'd be worried about the brushes pulling off the paint (as it is peelable with the right amount of force)

    Im glad i found some videos about Vw polo 9n which is currently my car also and i can't wait for more new stuff about this beautiful car...Btw do you think that black hubcaps will look good on my black polo ?

    • @CarsWithJB
      @CarsWithJB  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you're enjoying the polo vids! I think black on black would look so cool, I would suggest using the same kind of paint I did so that you can easily reverse the job if you don't like it - the plasti-dip-esque stuff works really well and is so easy to remove - and it's only a tenner! Thanks for watching bossman

      Nice - hope it went well! It's been pretty hard wearing for me - i just never wipe it down or you can take streaks out of it - I'm gunna need to replenish mine asap anyway (but not sure if it's worth it yet as I'll probably get new rims soon!)

    How much cans do you need? 2-3? And my hubcaps are trash so should i sand them down?

    • @CarsWithJB
      @CarsWithJB  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2 should be more than enough, and no need to sand down; it'll ruin them for if you ever want to remove the plastidip!

    Hi there. Two of my friends recently did my hubcaps and I let them dry for at least 4-5 hours. The next morning it started peeling in some areas. Is there a way to fix this or advice you have for me?!

    • @CarsWithJB
      @CarsWithJB  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What kind of paint did they use? And if it was proper paint (Rather than this peelable stuff) did they prepare the hubcaps properly (I.e. sand it down a bit, put some primer on it, then paint)?

    Don't do this method it's awful, I did and paint started peeling off straight away. Then when I went car wash a lot of paint came off. Went back to the drawing board and sanded the wheels, used primer , paint and lacquer and its holding awfully well now, no paint peeling off and even survived the car wash , no issues

  • @maxfrederick1621

    Not exactly cheap if it only lasts 2-3 months. Might as well just buy proper black hubcaps that will last for years.

    • @CarsWithJB
      @CarsWithJB  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does actually last a lot longer than 3 months (they're still black now in fact), just the peel-able paint stops being as easily peel-able
