Personally, I would scuff up the paint real good, put 3 layers of primer on it using lighter coats. After that's done I would follow it up with 3 coats of base coat aka the paint color wanted. Once that's done I would definitely put a durable clear coat, either UV resistant or heat resistant. I would use the resistive primer and base coat too. Hub caps can heat up since wheels heat up from tires heating up and brakes heating up once you're breaking. That's just my view on it, if you want those hub caps to last.
+Mike peugeot In order for the paint to last, it is important to sand, primer and then paint your hubcaps. Without doing this process, the paint will chip quickly.
+cntcandii Yes, matte is okay to use, the color/finish is completely your preference :) Our preference is a gloss finish just because it has that little bit of shine but again, your choice completely!
+PFILMS A-Z Each coat should be applied lightly until you get your desired finish. You can use any automotive spray paint that is sold at automotive stores. The paint should last some time, however, if the wheels obtain damage from road conditions or curb rash, that will effect the paint over time.

Excellent tutorial. I would like ask, why you didn't use a primer on the hubcaps first, before spraying them with the satin black?
This dude better not ruin anymore wheel covers, he doesn't have many spares left...
I have midnight black that's the color of my car and I went to Napa and got and is the one with primer paint and clear coat is it ok to use
just did this on some s70 hubcaps for my 940 because the were in rough shape from curb rash.
Ah I see. And thank you for the tutorial!
Additionally, why shouldn't I use gloss?
Awesome informational educational video experience Y'alls
I'd recommend a primer
A primer & paint in one would be a good idea, plus it has a nice not to shinny look
is one can enough to do all 4 ??
+Phen0mable
Not entirely sure about that one! I would get two just to be safe!
Good luck!
Phenomable, I saw 2 cans at the end.
A few weeks ago I painted my cars ford escort hubcaps but the paint is almost gone now as it's chipped off now the car looks shit! What do I do?🙁
