Huh it is so much of species of bats. This one is flying fox. His name came from he looks like a fox! Bats are mammals. So they can be petted. Even the vampire bat is cute and too little! I dunno why people are surprised by cuty side of bats!
Shadow Heart is that by population relative to total mammal population, or by total # of unique species in mammalia? I'd have a lot of trouble believing the former considering how many rodents and humans there are
Jeddah couldn't be released (I don't know the reason), so the original carer was looking for a permanent care placement for him. In the meantime Mandi was caring for him; he needed to be kept tame so he could be an effective education animal. He loved to climb onto her and demand cuddles; she was cleaning out the crud from the bottom of the aviary, and he climbed aboard and solicited cuddles and petting. Mandi obliged, and whipped out her phone to record his pleasure. He has since gone to a permanent care home.

Have you seen the way grown men run away from bats? Yeah, Batman was onto something. I’ve seen men that love to act tough literally running and screaming when they see a bat.
@@xikaryo6735 to be fair, bats carry so many diseases it's kind of mind-blowing. I wouldn't want to come into close contact with any bats in the wild, personally.
@American Psycho that's terrible!!! What is wrong with you??? Bats are very beneficial, some kinds eat tons of insects, others help pollinate flowers and spread fruit seeds
It's healthy to be a bit wary around them since they can carry the rabies virus. I don't really fear them, but I respect their boundaries, like I would for any wild animal. One day, a young bat fell asleep on my chain link fence, right on the gate. I got to study him/her up close since the bat was sleeping very soundly, but I left it alone. At least the people who did this video gave that warning at the end.
U mean bats have access to very archaic forms of internet allowing for talk and friendship making across the planet all over? That's probably why birds like telephone cables as well...
He is deceitful...sometimes quiet...he is down right sneaky...not in your nightmares...when most think of bats...expecting something freaky...count 1-2 "ah ah," 3-4 "ah ah."
The benefits of having bats around far outweigh the risks. They eat mosquitoes by the truckload, pollinate certain food crops (like Avocados). The rabies thing gets blown out of proportion. That's a handful of individuals out of a population of thousands in most cases. It's true that you shouldn't handle them without protection, but that's the same with any animal. But most importantly... D'AAAAWWW!! So cuuuuuuute!
I actually had a friend who had a small colony of bats living in his attic. Everything was fine, no one was bitten, and the whole neighborhood benefitted from them eating pests.
You're probably thinking of the pig nose looking ones, which actually can be cute in their own way. Fruit bats look like furry puppy things and are adorable.
Just by looks they are indeed cute as cute can get, but they do carry some serious viruses, among them the recently infamous ebola, but this particular kind of fruit bat may not be a vector.
+RoarOfDamnation It has been shown that bats don't carry Ebola. The scientists jumped to the wrong conclusion. They haven't found any (African) bats who are carrying the virus. Bats in Australia can carry ABLV (Australian Bat Lyssavirus) which is a variant of rabies, and Hendra Virus. You can't catch Hendra from a bat, only from a sick horse infected (presumably) from a bat.
+RoarOfDamnation Yes the bats in Africa were persecuted as carriers of Ebola, when they weren't. People fired entire roost trees and burnt them alive. They also hunt and eat bats there, and bushmeat is one of the ways emerging viruses spill over into the human population. Sad
+Megabattie Surely saying "when they weren't" is not strictly correct, it has been proven that some species of bat carry the Ebola virus without symptoms. Making them carriers.
I had a tiny bat in my house and saw how adorable and smart it was. I now love bats. They play a very important role here catching gnats and mosquitoes. Thank you so much for letting people see they are great animals.
Hehe, my biology professor hated with a passion when people projected human behaviour onto animals. Once sent him a video with a owl which he hated. hehe
Well, he doesn't sound like much fun. I do think animals have behaviors similar to humans :) Was it the video where the owl was hugging the person who rescued him/her?
Amazing that people think this is abuse. Despite being mammals ourselves it is amazing that some people do not recognize the obvious mammal signs of enjoying something (yawning, sleepy eyes, etc.). This bat's behavior is so much like when my cats get into super-cuddly mode. How precious! :-)
Indeed - out of context it's a reasonable possibility if you're not familiar with bats, but I'll trust the word of the bat's caretaker over random viewers on the internet.
Many of the people bitching are the same ones that support Blackfish and other bias views of zoos or animal parks even preserves. They follow a passion and unfortunatly that passion doesn't allow them to develop understanding or even basic education on what they are fighting against
I've had to help and rehab a few bats and various other small critters like hedgehogs, rock hyrax, giant cane rats, snakes, chameleons, and birds in my lifetime, living in Africa tends to put you directly amongst them and our houses and swimming pools are often a hazardous place for them. if I leave an oil pan uncovered over night in the garage sure as dammit there'll be a Beuchells bat half drowned in there the next morning, they think it's water. believe me when I say that bats are bats, like dogs are dogs, we don't really get many large fruit bat species in South Africa, but the little squishyfaced insectivores have colonies in almost every house's roof, and they bite like crazy if they feel threatened, just as a wild mouse or rat would. this little fruit bat is not stressed. as far as he can conceive his mom is grooming him. Internet hystericals need to chill

Oh my heart is absolutely melting. How sweet ❤❤❤❤ Some of those noises kind of reminds me of when a tiger or big cat chuffs. But on a smaller and more squeaky scale lol ❤😂
Would humans still be able to make friends with other species if we didn't have fingers and opposable thumbs? Think about the first wolf who ever got petted, or a belly rub, and how foreign that sensation was. It had never experienced that before and would only ever experience it from humans. And what's the deal with petting anyway? Why do we instinctively try to pet other animals, whether it's a dog or a dolphin, and why are other animals so receptive to it, as if it's a natural thing? They don't try to pet us, after all. Anyhoo, things I think about...
I think it's a general sensation akin to being groomed by others. It's like something that tells them you care about them and would like to spend time with them.
It physically feels good and mentally it's a way to Express love or affection seeing as how animals dont have a language in the sense of spoken word. Many animals rub up against, lick, or groom their young and many with friends. Us primate types just dominate the pet game with our fingers and some animals are just dying to get a piece of that sweet sweet.... finger pettins? Lol. Other animals that dont like being petted are only envious of our hands and seek to destroy us as a means to eliminate the petting competition in Hope's of one day reclaiming the mantle of best petter, but their efforts are in vain because these sweet hands can also operarate firearms. The mantle shall not change...hands...
@Frank M Martinez Never seen a chimp pet an alligator, but I did see a human do it. Just holding babies of their own species doesn't really add anything to Josh's theory, nor debunk it.
Why do we instinctively try to pet other animals? Because touch is physical sign of affection among humans. We find it comforting to touch and be touched. Certain tactile sensations are also deeply pleasurable and soothing. We also have an excessively broad visual template for 'baby.' Anything small, round, and soft, preferably with large eyes, is going to trigger the part of our brain designed for protecting and nurturing our young. That includes a *lot* of holding and petting.

I actually found a bat once, floating in a pool. I fished it out, dried i off, fed it for a whole day, and left it in a dark place to rest. The next day I took it out, it saw on my finger, turned around, squeaked and flew off. Didn't scratch or bite even once, and was one of the most adorable things I ever saw.

All bat handlers and rescues are vaccinated for rabies in Australia and require yearly blood tests to show continued immunity. People really like to virtue signal I guess, even when there's clearly nothing wrong.

They're not afraid without reason mate, we are not lucky... we hunted, killed and ate everything before we started to grow our own livestock and plants.....

I've just watched a few short animal videos. A magpie, two ring-neck parrots, a polar bear, a baby bat, a baby owl --they all crave human touch. I am in awe of how trusting they can be though they've been born to live in the wild, independent of us. There is such innocence and honesty in these creatures, and such appreciation for a little belly rub or a head scratch. They close their eyes in ecstasy, make little soothing sounds--they let you know. They communicate. There is more in nature than we will ever begin to know. I am in awe.

It's healthy to be a bit wary around them since they can carry the rabies virus. I don't really fear them, but I respect their boundaries, like I would for any wild animal. The benefits of having bats around far outweigh the risks. They eat mosquitoes by the truckload, pollinate certain food crops (like Avocados). The rabies thing gets blown out of proportion. How can some people hate them ? I think this baby is just the cutest little thing.
+Megabattie Those poor African bats!

After reading the Underland Chronicles, that hits WAY different
BECAUSE THEY FLUFFLY
That includes a *lot* of holding and petting.
aaw she's so precious, bless you for looking after them all. So much care and love 💛💚🦇🦇

I don't know.
because in ancient primeval times we looked like that too but without the wings. No joke.
This bat looks so goddamn happy to be alive this entire video. This is the single greatest video I have ever witnessed
What's with that atrocious picture you have? I don't ever want to see that loser's face again. What kind of idiot uses an Obama face?
K-Man S
Damn man, I don't like Obama either, but I dont see any reason to insult someone who has a picture of the guy. I'm sure you see and hear how leftists are treating Trump and his supporters. We are supposed to be more stable and mature than that.
I didn't ask for your opinion, yet I got it anyway. You can speak your mind but I can't? Well...FU.
K-Man S
That guy up there didn't ask for your opinion either. Maybe because no one needs promission.
Can't handle people's profile pictures? Leave then.
This is a neat thread.

It's amazing how all creatures respond sweetly to love and kindness :*)
