      Fun fact which you may already know, the creator of Vivaldi was formerly a key player in the creation of the Opera browser project way back when... then Opera moved to the blink engine and that prompted him to create Vivaldi! Slimjet browser really needs to be mentioned. It was around well before Brave and Vivaldi with many great innovative features including its own built in ad blocker. It is also built on the Chromium architecture but without the privacy and phone home intrusions that Google is infamous for.
    I think it should also have been mentioned that Brave Browser was founded by Brendan Eich, the inventor of JavaScript.
    And Vivaldi was founded by Jon von Tetzchner, one of the co-founders of the Opera browser.
    Brave is now my primary browser and both Slimjet and Vivaldi are my backups in that order.
    And if I need max privacy for a browsing session without going to Tor, and a built-in VPN that has never failed to work for me, unlike Opera's VPN, I use Epic Privacy Browser.
    There are also times when I do use Opera. These browsers I have mentioned make up my top 5.
    I did have, and still do to some extent, concerns with the Chinese ownership of Opera. However, the Duck Duck Go privacy extension ranks the Opera website quite well and, whilst it does not necessarily follow that the Opera browser should also be the benefactor of that rating, it does provide some added comfort in my view.

    Used Brave Browser for a year now, but recently changed and now using Opera. So much smoother in all ways. Brave was a cool hippie kinda thing - adblock, tor etc.. But it is soooo laggy. So much problems to open some specific sites, the loading speed is extremely slow sometimes, the ads are gone but still there as transparent blocks on some sites, constantly updates like every 2-3 days, the useless BAT coins appear and disappear as they want, printing files and managing downloads is weird, videos and streams on specific sites can't load, the Tor part is barely usable as almost every site is stopping it with captcha or error etc.

I just learned about Vivaldi about a week ago and was pleased to find most of the features I like in Opera, can be found in Vivaldi. Why... Vivaldi was founded by one of the founders of Opera. He did not agree with where Opera was going after it's sale so he created Vivaldi.

    I installed Opera way back when I switched from text based internet to broadband. There was no Chrome back then so I don't know what it was based on. No Firefox either. Opera was the most feature rich, privacy oriented and fastest browser available after Netscape died. I did try other browsers but stuck with Opera.
    A few years ago, Opera dumbed itself down and I switched to Maxthon. Then I heard that some Opera employees had left and started Vivaldi, which is now my main browser.

    I'm admittedly not a computing/coding pro. I ditched Internet Explorer 12+ years ago & began using Mozilla FF. But I gradually found that FF can be a resource hog on certain Windows machines. I tried Google Chrome a few years ago & discovered that TH-cam seems to run more efficiently on the Chrome browser (lower CPU & disk drive activity). So I use Chrome for my TH-cam activity & FF for most everything else. I have the "Disconnect" add-on (or extension) installed on BOTH browsers to reduce the nefarious tracking activity. But I'm glad to learn that there are even more worthwhile alternatives.

    • @Hashoshi4
      @Hashoshi4  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      FireFox is shockingly more inefficient when it’s used less heavily (fewer tabs, etc.) and over time you have more returns in efficiency compared with Chrome. At least that’s what I’ve measured. Thanks for the insight on TH-cam! Cheers!

  • @Hashoshi4

    UPDATE: I have since abandoned Opera because of increasingly closed-sourced code and uncertainty around tracking practices. I have moved to FireFox as my #2 to Brave. While I found no evidence of tracking in Opera using WireShark and other tools, I still have no conclusive evidence it is NOT happening. Just my two cents :) have a great day.
