The main seller on Vivaldi for me is the split tab function, also Vivaldi's custom CSS function means that you can make it look however you wan't and add new features. I currently have custom CSS to make my Vivaldi look like Opera GX.

Old School Opera was the weird browser with all these seemingly gimmicky features we take for granted today. I'm pretty sure it was the first browser that had tabbed browsing. And I liked the mouse gestures and built in email and IRC client that it had too. Just like the Netscape of Ye Olde. I was sad to see it fall so far.

The thing I can't live without from Vivaldi are the mouse gestures. Yeah I know you can add them to other browsers and opera was known for mouse gestures for a long time, but even with add ons on other browsers, I can't seem to get the same experience, and I find myself trying to use them outside of browsing, like in the explorer, or steam, or whatever has navigation, and getting getting really confused when they don't do anything, that's how much I'm used to mouse gestures and how they improve all my web browsing flow

Nice video Chris, I have been using Brave since it was in beta and I love it, I have no problems whatsoever with Brave's sync function on Linux, Windows and Android all the bookmarks are always updated on all devices.
Also when using Vivaldi in Fedora I noticed you cant resize the browser if you want it really small like you can do with Brave, Vivaldi also does not seem to block any of the adverts in TH-cam like Brave does with great ease.

@@ReallyNotTrix1 Chrome is considerably worse than Firefox! Tell me, why does Google keep itself starting up on Windows (probably via a service) even if you remove it from the startup-programs in msconfig? Most likely because it spies on you. If you think it isn't, it certainly is spying on you while you browse the web. That is how it knows which ads to 'serve' you.
Mozilla has done some bad things too. There was some telemetry on limited scale without the user his permission, I don't like how Mozilla pushes its cloud-feature (Pocket, I need to get into the config to remove it from the bar), Mozilla was incredibly late with adding multithread-support and for years there were new serious bugs regularly. But at the moment it has multithreaded support, I haven't had any noticable bug for 1-2 years, it is relatively light on resources and you can disable potential telemetry in the GUI which is more than what can be said of Chrome. If you are stuck in the Google-ecosystem for whatever reason, then at least use Brave. I have been using Firefox since before it became hip to use either Firefox or Chrome and to bash Internet Explorer, Chrome didn't exist back then.

    • @ChrisTitusTech

The VPN only encrypts browser-based activity to Opera VPN Servers. The VPN is also hosted by SurfEasy which operates out of Canada which is a 5-eyes country. So they would be obligated to turn over any information about your browser history. The VPN also keeps logs and tracks user activity. The only encrypted tunnel is from your PC to SurfEasy in Canada using AES-256 encryption. Also, this is a glorified proxy as you can do the tests yourself using the following Github project. gist.github.com/spaze/558b7c4cd81afa7c857381254ae7bd10 Do tests on it yourself and come to your own conclusion. I honestly could have made a 10-minute video just roasting Opera, but cut it down to a couple minutes just for the sake of brevity.

Plus Opera has cli options and vivaldi does not. Fortunately vivaldi works well enough with default and assumes the second parameter is an url. Thank you for this video. I've been watching your stuff for a little while and saw this pop up as a suggestion. I decided to see how my recent browser of choice, Opera, would fair against Brave and Vivaldi. As soon as you mentioned you would make fun of certain users for using a specific browser, I figured it was Opera and became interested to know why. Boy oh boy did I not know those things about Opera. Bummed me out since I have used them on and off for decades and had no idea they had gotten sold.
The entire thing made my recent move to Manjaro pretty funny. See I decided to do it because I broke Opera trying to get video codes and HTML 5 properly working on Pop. Basically I couldn't use TH-cam anymore. I saw this was a one click install for Manjaro and was quite excited. Sadly I'm on a laptop with hybrid nvidia graphics and the solutions for that on Manjaro have a ways to go in my opinion. I really hope to see that all fleshed out soon (especially with the recent Gnome updates) as I think long term I'd rather be on Manjaro after using it. Pop tends to "just work" more often than not for me and the fresh install has actually done a lot to improve overall quality of life. And now that I've swapped browsers I don't need to worry about youtube not working and accidentally breaking anything trying to get codecs installed (seriously I found like a dozen walkthroughs to get those working and none of them worked for me. One of them literally made it so Opera wouldn't launch).
I've now swapped over to Brave as my main browser. Added bonus for me is it's chromium based so I can now use certain tools (jitsi) without having to open chromium. So again, thanks for this! This single video caused me to wipe an OS and uninstall a browser from my Windows partition. I can't think of another youtube video that caused me to take so much action in a single day.

I'm not gonna lie, I've been a loyal devotee of Opera, ever since I had it on my Nokia "feature" phone in the o.g. presto days(And I will forever rep Opera during those days)..... But man, this has been an eye opener.I had no idea that one of the co-founders left cause the Opera that I knew and loved was losing its soul. Honestly I just stumbled into this video while checking out what other browsers there were , for curiosity with no intention to change, but now I feel like I have to. Thanks for the heads up man, subscribed!

I’ve been using Opera since 2015 ish, I think, and it’s served me well. I miss the early versions having great tab management, I don’t get how that got dropped. It used to be the fastest of the major browsers, and still supported flash when the other major browsers dropped it.
So it’s great to see this video now and realise how far it’s fallen and what it has become haha, I haven’t looked at browsers in years.

I am reluctant to use Brave (and Tor) because it is... Torlike : it turns your pc into a webnode (as with Tor) that can be used by any Brave user and, ultimately, be used as an end point for another Brave user so whatever web activity he does, is performed through your pc... Indulging into such a web structure slows the internet browsing as is confirmed with the Tor browser. Am I wrong ?

Just switched to the Brave Browser, because Firefox:
    1. will no longer let me tweak settings in "about:config" (it appears to toggle the change, but then there is no way to save the change, and it reverts back as soon as I close "about:config"
    2. In the main Settings Menu, it's now impossible to tick the "Warn On Closing Firefox" box.
    3. After closing Firefox, when I try to empty my Temp folder (%temp%), it says that can't be done because "the file is still open/in use". I then have to reboot, just to empty the Temp folder. That doesn't appear to be a problem with the Brave browser (at least so far).
Used Firefox for a long time, but those problems are disturbing. I'm done with Firefox.

did Vivaldi ever make complete Visual Bookmarks and drag n drop ease like its integrated and synched in like featured in Opera Browser?
I know some Firefox and Chrome extensions got to make Visual Bookmarks but in all those cases the add-on creator either abandoned the project, discarded it or made some malicious change that broke Terms and was removed.
Once your favorite Bookmark add-on gets lost, you lost your bookmarks.
Browsers seem to outlive add-ons so I'm better off looking for things as built-in features rather than add-ons.

I then switched to Firefox for a while, which was good but when Vivaldi finally got a reputation for being reliable I picked that up and did not regret it. I still have Firefox installed for obscure plugins but for everyday browsing it's Vivaldi which feels much better then Firefox to me, as someone who barely ever closes his browser.
Never checked Brave out, though, sounds like a good alternative.

I use Opera on mx Linux 18.3 and my android devices. I only use the 'vpn' for porn and torrents. Opera is the only browser on Android that, to my knowledge, adapts the text to the screen when you zoom on a page. Tell me of another browser that does that and I'll gladly consider changing.
