You can significantly improve the quality of 360 videos taken with consumer cameras by using Topaz video enhance AI. The Proteus model allows for complete control over sharpening, noise reduction, dehaloing, etc. I just got the Quest 3 and the videos I shot with my Insta360 One RS 1” edition look really good when processed with Topaz video enhancer and then hosted natively on the headset. You should do a video about this process.
Yes I love Topaz Video AI- the reason I haven’t shared it more is 1) the price is too high for most, and 2) it requires a very fast computer to use, which most people don’t have. Even on my Mac Studio, a 1 minute clip takes quite a while to process. Hoping the latest updates bring better performance 🤞🏻

Does the quest 3 feel like you're actually there or feel like you are viewing things through a space helmet? (or scooba diving goggles) That's one thing I didn't like about the Quest 2.
Definitely the space helmet. The Bigscreen Beyond headset seems like the future to me. Shame it doesn't have wireless yet, but I can see that's the future. Get the weight and heat off the head, have a wider field of view and custom facial interface. I still bought the Quest 3 and I'm happy with it, I just know it's an incremental step, not a game changer.
With 3D content it feels like you’re actually there. It depends more on the content than the headset- the same videos I watched in this video can be watched on Quest 2 for a very similar sense of presence.

But I'm now shooting using an insta360 One X2, and your excitement for the online videos you find gets me interested in what they are using. Do you know what they use, and what can you recommend based on that? I've had your experience many times: shoot an exciting video in 5.7K, upload it to the headset, and it's resolution is disappointing. I just received my Quest 3. Like you, I'm only using it for my own 3D and VR creations. I'm upgrading from the lowly Occulus Go, too. I am interested to see the difference in resolution in the Quest 3 and how my own Insta360 EVO videos look in the new device. It seems that in 2D, these videos had plenty of resolution, but the Go, despite the relatively low native resolution, seemed to compress the video even more.

Hi Ben, thanks for this detailled review. The quest 3 seems like a good bet for 360 videos. Concerning the video quality (- which you mentioned as a kind of drawback with < $1000 360 cameras): Have you tried to upscale videos of the X3 to achieve a more immersive, higher quality VR experience? E.g. I'm using TOPAZ AI video enhancer a lot for my standard action cameras and even for reframed X3 clips. Here I would say upscaling with a factor of two will yield a lot more detailed, especially with the lates AI models like IRIS. I would love to read your thoughts about this approach.
Thanks! Yeah I’ve considered it- however Video AI is 1) expensive, and 2) very time intensive, even for a single clip it takes hours of processing. So hopefully Topaz improve this in the future. If you have the time to wait though, then absolutely it’s worth it 👍🏻

Has anyone tried using the quest 3 with glasses on. The last time I tried a VR headset, I could not wear it with glasses, and the diopter adjustment wasn’t quite enough for my prescription (-4)
Love the Quest 3, but the strap isn't comfortable, I had to get a counterweight, for £10, then it feels better. Racket Fury doesn't have life like physics, Eleven Table Tennis does. The difference is huge. With ETT, you can play in mixed reality using the Quest 3, a literal game changer. Hit "MR" in Thrill of the fight, another game changer. I noticed TH-cam app now has lower resolution for 360 videos, so best to use the web browser version. Still waiting for a decent consumer VR 180 camera, hope Canon are close now.
I wish more people would just start mapping areas and going to events with cameras at normal people heights. Even at 180 for the higher resolution because 360 views are fuzzy a lot of the time. 8k 180 videos have been the best on the headset. But it's so weird when they do crazy angles. I just wish there were more videos because it's nice to travel in the headset. Meta definitly needs to make it easier to subscribe to creators, share, and like content.

@@sharpvidtube Headsets are just too expensive for something unfamiliar. There needs to be more free opportunities for someone to try it. I would have never even gotten one if it wasn't for the pandemic lockdowns. I needed an extreme justification to buy my first headset.
Like 3D movies in a theater, if you see a bad one (which TBH is most of them) that makes you sick or, is of low quality, it can turn you off to ever wanting to try again. I first tried a VR headset in one of those downtown gaming rooms and was totally underwhelmed. But like Ben says, wait until you see some of the 8K nature/adventure content out there in a high-quality VR headset.
I have the Oculus Rift on my computer. I then bought the Quest2 some years later thinking it would be good without the wires connecting to the computer. I was disappointed that a lot of the games I had and played on my Rift, the Quest2 wasn't powerful enough to play them. I wrote on other sites and people kept telling me I could buy a cable to connect the Quest2 to the computer to play them. I had to keep reminding them that I had a Rift already connected to the computer so I could play the games on that. One that I like and was really disappointed about not being on the Quest2 was GOOGLE EARTH VR. There was one called WANDER on the Quest2 but that was no comparison for me. The best I do now is have my Rift at home on the computer, and the Quest2 in my caravan when I am away. I'm really enjoying all this technology though (I'm 60+) and I'm sure the future stuff will be as though you're there etc. So errr, hurry up and get a move on creating it. LOL. Love seeing your videos, but not so happy seeing you in T-shirts most of the time whilst I'm shivering here in the UK 🤣🤣🤣🤣
i had no problems playing all my pc games without a cord, I even use outdated wifi, google mesh, but usually will move one of the goohle pucks into the room Im using vr. some games worked better with virtual desktop, some better with link. I have seen wifi devices that people recommend but cannot recall off the top of my head
0:03 I was that guy telling everybody that VR is incredible and you have to try it and the quest 2 is a great value and you should pick it up! I tried to get people to try mine and I kept singing the praises of VR over the months and years... not a single person I spoke to ever tried it or got one! After a quick go, I'm not hat impressed with the passthrough yet, the quality wasn't the best when using it live, but then the quality of the photo I took was a lot better. But it's definitely a a big step up from the Quest 2
Is this even still the desire for 360 content or does it not make more sense to invest in 180 degree videos. I am considering buying the canon 5.2mm dual fisheye lens and producing videos for the upcoming Apple Vision pro headset.
For now it’s more of a hobby thing than being used professionally… with a few projects as an exception. In the future though it will definitely be bigger- so up to you really whether you want your be an early adopter 👍🏻
Too bad the Meta designers ignore basic physics. To remove weight on the face that create the annoying downward force on the nose and cheeks they should compensate by some weight on the back of the head, for example by moving the batteries there.
The Quest Pro has that, and there are accessories you can buy for Quest 3 that do it too. The weight isn’t the issue for me. It was more the tightness of the strap, which can be counteracted with either keeping it loose, or getting the elite strap.
Pico 5 should be the "The Best Headset For 360...hum for 3D Video Creators", why ? Because Quest 3 can do 4k 3D SBS recording with its only old 4mp camera, instead of 16mp scheduled on the next Pico The possibility to record 4/5k SBS 3D with a VR helmet without paying the big price (hello appple) it's a big point in order to sell.

I believe it’s glasses friendly- also they sell prescription lenses for it so you can simply clip them on before use 👍🏻

You only need one camera- with 8 lenses e.g. Insta360 Pro 2, Titan etc

Sadly all meta quest video are still quite grainie……. It’s not up to the task in quality yet, maybe in an other 30 years regarding video .
