- So I decided to visit the Nairobi National Park on a self-drive. I used a Toyota corolla 2 wheel drive and I didn't have a guide accompanying me. I spent around 4 hours in the park and drove around following other tour vans that seemed to know where they were going.
I went to this national park in Kenya to let you know if it's worth visiting.
My total expenses were:
1. Fuel: $15
2. Entry Fee:
- Vehicle: $3
- 2 Passengers: $4 each
TOTAL: $26
You can check out the full fee schedule for entering Nairobi National Park and other Kenyan Parks for foreigners by checking out this PDF www.kws.go.ke/parks/nairobi-na...
Nice video, indeed very helpful. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for the video, it was informative and funny. It makes me miss Kenya even more.
Hey Peter, Glad you enjoyed it
The technical side of the video has some improving to do
However your infectious enthusiasm makes your vids such fun viewing
Keep up the cheery presentations. You have a new fan in the Oceanic region
This was very helpful
I am happy it helped.
thankyou for the video
Karibu Sana
I consider this very helpful. The tittle could give a doubt to many travellers amid adventures. Considering the tour Jeeps or Vans could add some spice to any guest’s Safari or excursion.
Hey Titus.
Thanks for the comment. I will consider your advise in coming videos
the roads in the parks have been graded since kibaki's era.... we've been doing self-drives in smalls parks, nairobi, naivasha, nakuru since 2007..... the rest we do tour vans particularly the mara, serengeti, amboseli.....awesome vlog
Hey Ruth. Thanks. It's great that you actively enjoy the beauty of Kenya. I feel that most of us miss out on the great experiences that are so near us while other people out there spend thousands of dollars to see what we could in an afternoon visit to a nearby park.
I have watched all your videos and think your advice is well worth watching. In your opinion what is the best tour company/tour guide to go with? I am looking at Tanzania and Kenya safari's. I first wanted the Kruger national park but since I am going in August I thought switching would be better for my first time! what do you think?
Thanks for watching the videos! I really appreciate it.
I would recommend that you read my step-by-step guide on choosing a safari company: eastafricatraveltips.com/how-to-choose-a-safari-company-in-10-easy-steps/ It details out a step by step way of finding a safari company that works for your needs and budget.
Did you have to pay anything else apart from the 1160 at the entrance now that you had your vehicle?
I only paid the entry fee for the vehicles and the two of us in the car.
Hi, I am looking for some advise. I’ll go on October already have my plane tickets I was planning on doing the Masai Mara for 3 days and 2 nights and then I have to go. I will not be able to do the elephants or the giraffe so I was thinking on doing the Masai Mara safari for 2 days, this way I could also see the eleohant orphanage but I am concerned that the Nairobi safari will feel like a zoo and that I won’t se a good amount of animals as I would at the Masai mara .. but i really want to see the elephants this is the only way.. I don’t know what to do .. could you please share your thoughts or recommendations? Masai Mara vs Nairobi Park? Thanks !
Hi Karen. Thanks for your question.
I would not recommend choosing Nairobi National Park over Nairobi. If its Elephants and giraffes you want to view, you will definitely find them in the Mara, especially if you spend as many days as you can there. I would pick an extra day in the Mara over the long drive from Mara to Nairobi.
My visit to Nairobi National park was underwhelming and I would not recommend it for you since you have such a short time in Kenya.
At the Mara, you dont get to interact with the animals and if this is important for you, you can reserve an extra day for the Elephant Orphanage and Giraffe centers. However, in my opinion, If this is your first time in Africa, just do the entire stay at the Mara and get a good Tour operator who knows how to spot animals. Your experience there will be exciting enough without having to interact directly with the animals.
Nairobi National park does not feel like a zoo, the animal orphanage at the entrance does though you still dont interact directly with the animals here either.
East Africa Travel Tips hello ! Thank you for the response it is very helpful and based on your comments I decided to do Mata only. My options of agencies are West Travel & Tours or Beacon Safaris, they have both quoted similar pricing at the Ilkeliani Camp. Are you familiar with these agencies? Thanks again thumbs up for your videos :)
I've not interacted with any of the two that you have quoted.
my advice would be that you check out the article I've written about how to choose a separate company before you commit to any one of the two. eastafricatraveltips.com/how-to-choose-a-safari-company-in-10-easy-steps/
I think you'll find the information there really helpful and it'll help you determine whether the companies you have shortlisted are the best for your trip.
Nice ; video and very informative and yes your Kiswahili reading was not impressive I was sneering 🤣
😂😂
What time did you visit?
It was around 10am when we arrived.
How much does it cost to be driven by a tour guide using the park's vehicle
I didn't think the parks have vehicles that are issued to park visitors. Almost all transportation comprises of private safari companies that have different daily rates depending on the type of vehicle you are using and how many passengers will be in the vehicle.
Hope that helps.
@@EastAfricaTravelTips what is your Instagram page. I've just come across your page today. I want to start a travel and tours business in kenya.my target market is international tourist, middle aged group who would want to visit kenya.. do have any suggestions
How long is the stretch
Which stretch?
@@EastAfricaTravelTips distance from the entrance
The entrance to the park is located right on Langata road which is pretty near the Central Business District of Nairobi.
Once you are in the park, you would need to drive about 10 minutes before seeing animals.
Your title cuts the deal for most people who don’t know Kenya or Nairobi National Park for that matter. I think that kind of title is negative and uncalled for. The park has been in existence for many years. Many people visit and some of the footages that have been posted are great with many animals seen. You only visited one day for 4 hours and without a guide. You can’t expect to see all the animals at once. Most game tours are done either early morning or late evening when it is cool for most animals to be out and about. It is good that you tried stating the pros and cons but unfortunately people who have no knowledge of wild life in kenya may not even watch your video to the end because they are turned off by the title.
How did you know that girrafe is a she
Ha! 😀, Good question.
Haha
