    Hi Antony, good to see new content. Great video, learned the one on the water the hard way. Lived in a house with a rain tank for a year with no problem. Then moved to a new home with piped water and did not boil. Spent a couple days in hospital for that mistake. Hope to get back to Kenya in 2023. All the best to you.

      Hey Peter. Sorry to hear about what happened with the water. It's one of those things that only takes a second to get wrong and you pay for it dearly. Thanks for sharing. I hope other viewers get to see this before they make the same mistake.

      I encourage you not to be scared. Be prepared for eventualities that may happen but also relax knowing that the governments of the countries you will be going to take tourism and tourists very seriously. They do not want a scandal in their hands so they do their best to keep their tourists safe.
      Having said that, you do need to be prepared. Here are a few articles I wrote on how to stay safe

      Please report back on how your trip went.

    Great Video, Thanks. The only thing that I would add to your list is too ensure that all your vaccinations are up to date and depending on the area you are visiting start taking your malaria tablets before your trip.

    Some new phone cameras have 10x optical, 100x digital zoom. Far more than my Canon analog camera has. I'm not sure I understand the zoom argument. Great tips though!

      Digital zoom if awful, it pixelates the photo. I’m amazed the amount of people you just bring there phone on safari for photos, minimum optical zoom you want is 25-30.

      Yes but tricky. I would only advice you to go that route if you will stay for a long time. Roaming might be a better option for you.

    Is solo trip advisable to Kenya ? Thinking of Masai Mara!

    • @EastAfricaTravelTips
      @EastAfricaTravelTips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. It's something I have seen many do. If you are inclined to it, you could do a shared trip. This means that you will be sharing your safari van with other tourists which is an opportunity to make a friend?

    Hi Antony. Regarding tipping. Most things I have seen give tipping amounts in USD. Is it best to tip in Kenyan Shillings or do people prefer USD. Many thanks.

    • @AntonyNjoroge
      @AntonyNjoroge 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would advise tipping in Kenyan shilling. You can still tip using dollars but they will need to convert it before they are able to use it.

    Hello Antony. Thanks for your video. I am planning my first safari and i have a question. I do not want to have itinerary, i want to fly there, for maybe 2 weeks, maybe 2 months, i do not know, but, is it expensive to live there? like food and hostels. Can i book safaris on site and maybe save some money? what is the best way to make it as cheap as possible? thanks a lot!

    Are there any activities, practices, or services provided on safaris/etc. with which you feel uncomfortable with visitors participating in? As a visitor, I feel a little apprehensive about some of the services offered by some of the safari companies, because I'm uncertain as to how they're locally perceived and how Kenyans are treated. For example, some offer visits to a Maasai village. I imagine that could be done well, a way to connect with people and learn more of that culture, or that could be really exploitative/colonialist. What are your thoughts?

    • @EastAfricaTravelTips
      @EastAfricaTravelTips  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't have any that come to mind. Even us Kenyans find the Maasais fascinating. However, the villages that tourists go to are built for tourists and are not authentic villages (www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g293747-i9226-k5444409-Any_authentic_Maasai_villages_in_Serengeti_Ngorongoro-Tanzania.html).
      If this is something you are uncomfortable with, I would advice you to skip it. However, Kenyans (in as far as I can speak on their behalf) don't have any strong feelings about tourists visiting these villages.
      One thing that you might want to be cautious about is taking photos of the locals. I would say there is ambivalence about this with some people happy to be photographed but with others very sensitive about it.
      Other than that, nothing else comes to mind. Hope this helps.
