I went on a tent camp budget safari in one of the Toyota vans at the Mara and loved it. Someone puked out the car window, so the bumps are definitely a concern but for anybody who is younger or without health issues and doesn’t mind the tent it was totally worth saving a few hundred bucks. We saw all the big 5 and so much more.

And if you’re used to tent camping this is way more fancy than that. You still get a small bed and bug net with a toilet in the back. Much nicer than digging a hole like I sometimes do in the states lol

I always ask for a Land Cruiser when I go on my safari. The tour guide/driver too is important for me. Truly, paying more for a safari is so worth it. Thank you for your videos!

I nearly booked my Safari in UK for $1900. I actually got it for $350 in Nairobi 2 days and 3 nights luxury camping. I opted for the lodge for an extra $200 and wished I had opted for the tented camp. That was in a land cruiser.

Hello, we are planning a trip to Kenya October 2024 for our 30th anniversary. I've been working on itineraries for where we want to go and what to see but I'm having a lot of trouble putting our places together and knowing how much time we need in each location. Do you or can you recommend someone who is local in Kenya that is very well-versed in this to help us put the pieces together? Thank you for any help you can offer I love your videos

Again a very good video, the one thing that I would disagree with is your take on tented safaris.
I have been on at least 20 safaris, the best was a tented safari in the Okavango Delta with Capture Africa ( Brian Gibson ).
The tents were extremley comfortable, the transport was in a brand new Land Cruiser and the food was outstanding.
On arrival I was asked what I would like to see the most - Leopard,.
No guarantees were given, obviously but in the 10 days I saw 7, One on a kill another with a 6/8 month cub.
Thanks for again for your videos.

Thanks for the pointer here. Excellent points there and I can't argue with that. I think many budget safaris have budget tents and this is what led me to this recommendation but I agree with you that there are exceptions to this.

Thanks for your video! It’s really helpful. Do you recommend booking accommodation + safari upon arrival at Kenya / Tanzania , instead of booking online in advance? It saves costs but I’m worrying about not able to book popular hotels/ good tour operators at the last minute . Thanks in advance! 😊

They have a lot of safari companies listed at different prices

My main objective is photography as I am a wildlife photographer so I am planning a budget safari but budget part is accommodation which is still inside the park
No frills like bush dinners or planes to get to Masai Mara and using road travel from Nairobi
But booking with reputed operator with photography designed land cruisers with good guide
    That part no compromise
What are ur thoughts on this as I plan to have good private land cruiser to myself with good guide and cutting only on frills and rented accommodation and plan to spend entire days inside park with packed lunch

    • @EastAfricaTravelTips

Sounds like a good plan. You know what you are looking for and have realistic expectations of what amenities you will have. I think your plan is solid. Do some digging around the Safari company. Reviews of the company on TripAdvisor is a good place to look.

What is the minimum reasonable price per person for a one week safari? Let's say that I've found some offers at 1.800 euros: is it definitely a scam, or is it a decent price for a group camping safari?

    • @EastAfricaTravelTips
      @EastAfricaTravelTips  8 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

It depends on a lot of factors so I can't tell you for sure unless I knew what the package contains. safaribookings.com can give you a ballpark figure of what to expect and the prices there should be considered the higher range since a local can negotiate for a lower price than what's quoted.

I think in Countries you visited are the one uses van, in Tanzania only Landcruisers are used for tour Safaris. It better you details specific rather than visiting some areas with Safaris organized with less quality and you end up generalize issues.I expected a person from East Africa like you could have researched well and come up with facts rather than just few bad experience probably unprofessional tour guides and you use them to promote your channel,I is completely un ethical

  • @andyprem

The land cruiser or van actually makes no different. Both vehicles are pretty comfortable. I prefer the midrange accommodation . The most important thing is the driver and guide. unfortunately you dont know who you get until you get him / her. So from my point of view budget safaris is definitely worth it.
