Rule 0: make sure one person in the group runs slower than yourself.
Joke apart, thank you for this excellent presentation.

You don't have to be faster than the lion, just faster than the slowest person.

My first African safari was in 2008. I wish this video had been available then. Very useful advice.
A phrase that amused me while I was there but which is very true: "In the African bush, only food runs"

Thank you so much for the tip about lens rental! We may be going to East Africa next year, and I was wanting to buy a camera, but HOLY SMOKES are they expensive! Especially for a trip I may only ever take one time in my life. Thank you!

There is another piece of advice for those driving themselves, apart from the obvious such as having water bottles, maybe some snacks etc., and having a good pair of binoculars. That is keep your driving speed as low as possible and avoid revving engines.. I know it seems obvious, but I remember back during a trip to Kruger National park some 60 years ago, my late father dove at almost walking pace and we saw plenty of wildlife, whilst others drove at speed throwing up clouds of dust and with excessive engine noise, gave animals plenty of warning, causing them to disappear. The humans then complained that they had seen nothing all day..!!LOL.. There is one more serious piece of advice to give.. NEVER, Ever stop next to a baby animal alongside a road perhaps, especially say a baby elephant or more rarely a baby rhino, drive past and then look back if need be, or stop well beforehand... No matter how helpless and appealing the animal may seem, the chances are that it has Not been "abandoned" and that "mother" maybe concealed close by. When a mother animal feels that her young is threatened, remember she does not know that your intentions may be good and she WILL attack usually without warning..!!

Your tour guide/driver will usually advise with this. Let them know when you feel like you need to go.
