You know Tudor is to Rolex as Tissot is to Omega. It was Omegas baby sister brand back in the 40s 50d and 60s..ironic eh?
GENIUS observation. Thank you, pinned in your honour.
Best regards,
TGV
I had no idea about that connection, very interesting Curtis
Omega bought Tissot in the 30s to use their patend etc.
Tanks…love your videos,.. watch as many as I can…I learn a lot as well..the Vintage world is so cool and different from the new stuff..my favorite is my 55’ Omega Constellation 18K bumper Auto
Very true. The tissot and omega bumper movements is a good example.
Such a pleasure to watch. Production values just keep getting better and better. Your channel is the Bugatti of horology.
These are so much more than “watch videos”. They are mini documentaries, and I truly appreciate them. What a great job sir. Cheers 🍻
I think you are quickly becoming my favourite watch TH-camr. Every watch has a story and you carry that message perfectly.
Omg this is a perfect illustration of how your channel has evolved TGV. We're back to the old OG part time YouTubing and primary interest in watches but we've also changed a lot after our time away from the Janeiro. We've become so much more refined. When I see this watch, I remember you battling your health yet working hard to both collect watches and help us all become better versions of ourselves. That still inspires me today. Congratulations T!
🙌🙌🙌🙏🙏🙏 Thank you so much,
Best regards,
TGV
My goodness TGV selling your Tudor to buy a tissot. That’s got to be the greatest power move I’ve ever seen. You’re a mad man I tell you. Cheers😎
Nothing wrong with a higher end Tissot. Im a solid fan of Tissot and Seiko both for good quality at a good price and the fact that my wife wont kill me for buying a new watch in their price points. I go buy a Tudor, Omega or NOMOS for 5-7k USD, im sleeping on the couch for a year.
Fascinating story. Thank you for shedding some light on this rather unknown (to me at least) watch. BTW thanks to you I am also going to get a new Spoleto strap for my watch collection! Do you partner with them? 😉
I much prefer the Tissot Janiero over the Tudor. I'm weary of the conservative styling of Tudor. The Janiero is a breath of fresh air after the Tudor blandness. It's bursting with detail and intricacy. Love it.
That's how you know TGV is a true watch enthusiast. Not affected by branding. Unlike some tasteless self proclaimed watch enthusiast who from brags about how much they are into watches but all they are willing to buy is from the R brand 😂
Whats wrong with that buddy? Unless ur a logo fanboy!
The Janeiro returns!!!! Hallelujah. I remember when you sold it. I said to myself that you would rebuy it. Alas here we are. Fantastic. I bought a 1969 Speedy in Paris with my wife. Then foolishly I decided I would rather have other watches more and sold it. Recently I bought another Speedy and feel like I am home once again. A very pleasant turn of events. Congratulations.
Take care,
Michael
Every watch you review is covered in such stunning detail and production value that it’s simply an honor to watch and learn from. Thanks TGV
I remember this Tissot. I also remember those early videos. You've come a long way. And you've been able to keep everything as genuine as those first videos. Great vid as always.
Another captivating video TGV. Thoroughly entertaining and educational. Cheers sir.
Another wonderful video full of history and design, well done! And of course that Tissot is absolutely stunning.
Wonderful episode and story telling, it’s so refreshing today with all the ‘review’ videos which obviously are paid advertising and not even reviews at all. Been following you for many many years, your storytelling skill is still pure class. 😊
Glad to see you reunite with such a gorgeous piece! The Janeiro was your wrist watch check in the first Urban Gentry video I watched back in 2017 (was not the Bialetti/Lavazza video, I saw that later). The nostalgia is potent.
What a tale that intriguing dial has to tell and what a wonderful video to showcase your new acquisition. Bravo, TGV! 👍
This was such a great part of your collection!! I'm so glad it's back!!
Thank you!!!!
Best regards,
TGV
Fantastic video TGV, as usual, I learned not only about the Janeiro 37mm, but also about Italian aviation history, architecture, proper coffee brewing etc.....The production levels are off the chart!
You make watching videos on timepieces a pleasure, thank you!
Tristano, the way you are capable of going "full-circle" with yuor stories, is honestly unparalleled. No one does it quite like you. Cheers to treating yourself with such a nice piece. I'm currently on the lookout for one as well, hope my girlfriend doesn't kill me!! Un abrazo desde España amigo!
The quality of your video's is truly outstanding. Right at the very top of youtube entertainment. Top job. Thanks for all the hard work. John
What an amazing video, history , design , architecture. This was a real treat, a true experience. Congrats on your new/old watch it's a stunner !
Well done TGV, a truly beautiful watch, and I'm glad for you that it is back in your possession. Cheers Noel
Congratulations on the new/old watch, it is a stunner. Love thr art deco styling. Great to see you still use the Bialetti as i do after watching your video all those years ago ☕. Great video as always sir, enjoy your watch and week
Being a Tissot enthusiast for many years (my first nice watch was also a PRS 200) I really enjoyed this video. Congratulations for the new acquisition! This timepiece is amazing!
A fabulous insight into the origins of both design and evolution, combined with important historical events. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with us all.
Hello Tristano, Another joyful and eduational offering. Thank you very much. Please keep following your very singular path. There are many who really appreciate what you do. Keep on keeping on. Mark. PS. I bought a Tissot PRX Quartz last week (white dial, rose gold hands) and it's a babe. Not the most original of choices, but it's now 1978 and I'm 14 again. Like you with your Janeiro, I'm savouring what I've got. Best. M
Wow, didn’t see that coming but I’m so glad to see it back! Congratulations TGV! It reminds me of the older days of the channel ( OG speaking here, haha)
Stunning mate. Love the strap combo too, perfectly compliments. Congratulations and enjoy!
Another amazing episode brother. As an OG, I remember how you spoke of the Janeiro back in the day. I was surprised when you sold the original one, but not surprised when you bought it back. I always thought she'd find her way home. Glad you've got it back on wrist. Cheers, D
The writing and edit on this episode was something else. Congrats on the (re)purchase !
Keep this up man, What a historic channel this is becoming. Two of my favorite interests, watches and history combined into one !!
I occasionaly re-watch an old episode and when the Janeiro appears as the wristwatch check, I'm always bewondered that you had let it go. So it is no surprise to see it back. A truly nostalgic episode his one. That said, I wager the Sinn 104 will be the next re-(re-)buy, haha. Cheers!
Gorgeous watch and a heck of a rebuy! Enjoy it in good health, T.
Great video! I knew you didn't sell the Tudor Sub. I didn't have to see the end! Glad you got the Tissot back! Cheers my friend!
Well done Chap, if I may call you that. Not much into watches, but I’m glad I stumbled upon your channel. Learned quite a bit and it was entertaining. I’m also appreciative of your use of the old-school espresso maker. That’s my morning ritual. Look forward to seeing your channel!
Very cool. I came across this watch a few months ago as I was scrolling through IG and I also feel in love with it. I have been trying to find one that I am comfortable getting and still on the hunt. Congratulations! Wear it in good health.
TGV ! Great video as usual! O.G. Gentry made that coffee like a BOSS! I'm jealous of that robe!
Excellent video. Stylish and great story telling. Love it.
Wowww... Gorgeous! That's the kind of dial you can stare for minutes without even realizing what time is it...that pure horological entertainment 😅
This guy is pure quality, every facet about him. Love this channel. Thanks for the upload and for teaching me about a new watch!
Great review as always! Nice reference to that first video!😊
T, this is without a doubt my favourite watch you've owed over the years. Nice one. Best as always. Matthew
Another wonderful presentation of horological history. Always a pleasure!
Oh, I do love Hugo ❤ Now I’ve watched the whole video, fantastic TGV
Awesome timepiece TGV! As always love your historical info!
Che grande ritorno! Adoravo questo orologio, mi ricorda i primi video…è bello vederlo tornare sul canale!
A killer piece, one I've been waiting to see find its way back into your collection. The Tudor was a beaut, no doubt, but this is in another class. Cheers to a long overdue reunion with an old horological friend!
My, my my…once again, you manage to slip in more than a minor history lesson (hella thought-provoking, too - I was nodding my head more than a little), *then* make your big reveal, which I love, and truly agree was worth letting go of the Tudor for. One *very* minor quibble would be your take on the usefulness of the Telemeter scale: from an outdoorsperson's perspective, it can come in handy when dealing with an impromptu, incoming thunderstorm: gauging distance and direction. (On the cheaper end, this is why I love my 90s-era Seiko 7T32-9000 chronograph, which also nails that vintage-chrono vibe surprisingly well. Great presentation, once again!
Every now and then I will remember this tissot janeiro watch, and that TGV had it, and wonder how it ever left the collection. But seeing it back now has me feeling nostalgic. This is amazing. Well done.
Im assuming it cost MUCH more than the first time. I have also repurchased watches at VASTLY higher prices. It is not about the money. It’s about the passion. The feelings of euphoria. The return to glory.
What an excellent choice!! I remember your first one. It’s the perfect size and oh that mesmerizing dial! Very well done 🥃
Fantastic as usual. Nice to see you're doing well .
That dial is FANTASTIC. Love busy watches and the color combination really pops.
As always, great seeing a TGV video!
You’ve proven the medium is the message - your production values are a propos considering the Janeiro! Nice use of dissolves and fascinating look at the Futurists, TGV! Glad you repurchased this stunner.
Another fantastic video TGV. Loved the historical content too. Can’t wait for you to revisit Panerai for the follow up 🤞🏼
As always another great video. It's a lovely watch and I am glad you were able to find one in such good condition. We are all growing older, and would like to think, changing for the better, and our taste in watches changes with us. I'm really happy to see it wasn't another diver. Nothing against divers, but at least for me I am drawn towards a regular bezeled watch, classic designs, ease of legibility, looking for the go anywhere do anything style.
Thank you for the history lesson, I never leave your site without learning, for that I am grateful to you.
May you and yours be well,
Peace
Love the detail in your videos, not a simple case of "oh isn't this watch lovely".
Stunning vintage timepiece, love that choice of leather strap that compliments the dial colour scheme. A belated birthday tgv, wear the watch in good health fella🤙🏻
The amount of effort you put into your videos is actually astonishing!
Yet again, TGV plucks a delicious peach from the horological tree!
Superb content and presentation! The passion and dedication that goes into these videos (documentaries) is outstanding!
Tissot are making some gorgeous chronographs lately. I especially like the 1973 Heritage (white dial, rally strap). Not quite as classy as the Janiero, but I love its smart sporty aesthetic.
Brilliant content as ever. Thank you. CM.
Every time I see a Meades clip I immediately want to go back and rewatch the whole series.
Taylorism - Fordism - Futurism - Fascism. All disturbingly closely linked.
Fab video and a great watch. More power to your elbow!
VERY true, close indeed. He is one of my heroes. I got his autobiography for xmas in fact.
His observations are so profound and clever, you can rewatch them a million times and still learn something new. Thank you and I'm glad to have you in the good Gentry!
Best regards,
TGV
Wow! Indubbiamente uno dei tuoi migliori video, semplicemente un capolavoro! Comprendo e condivido pienamente la scelta di sacrificare il Tudor, questo Tissot è un importante un pezzo di storia che dà infinito piacere da mettere al polso!
Congrats on your reunion with the lovely Janeiro. I always liked this one from way back when you showed it on your channel. Really wanted one too after seeing your video. I found one on eBay. But, got snipe outbidded in the final seconds as the auction was ending. Oh well..
I am so jealous of your watches and watch choices. Pure class! I would be so frightened to buy a vintage watch.
I'm happy for you that you have this long-missed watch back in your collection. It is a great timepiece.
Great watch. Now I want one! Another excellent video.
Love seeing the Models of Yesteryear Auburn on your desk. One of my childhood favorites.
I really liked your discussion of the Art Deco period. As soon as I heard it mentioned, I was reminded of the BAUME & MERCIER maison who made this style their stylistic signature in the 1920s. 😀
I have never really been a Tissot fan, maybe because I did not know a lot about the brand. That said this watch is beautiful! The Art Deco style on that strap is magic. One of the main reasons I love the channel is I would have never have seen this watch anywhere else. You really are on another level when It comes to great watches. Keep up the great work my friend!
Great video, TGV!
The watch is gorgeous but the historical context you provided is incredibly interesting and sparked my interest!
Futurism is what they called it eh??
Dude, i freaking love your channel. Was really bummed when you left the Philly area. You'll always be my homey though. ;) Keep up the excellent work.
An OG returns!
One of them that caught my eye when you introduced me to this mad hobby. Damn you TGV…
🙏🙏🙏 Thank you and apologies at the same time!
Best regards,
TGV
Another really interesting and informative video. 👌
Keep it up! Great review and of course what a nice watch! ⌚
A beautiful find! Always a pleasure Sir and yes, Bialetti is the only way to make coffee. Best Regards and thank you!
the editing and effects are on point on this one, well done sir
Beautiful! Congrats on your latest acquisition!
Another fantastic video. Love this Tissot! Auguri!
Congrats on (re) acquisition. When the Urban Gentry puts out click bait, bite I shall! Another horological history lesson learned! Thanks!
Excellent video...I feel that I have just watched a movie, with some watch information. I'm glad that you like your Tissot, for the second time.
That watch is a beauty, also, your storytelling is second to none!
What an incredible history lesson. Best thing that’s happened to me all day. And now I want one of the 3333 too….
Well done. This is a personal and killer looking watch! 🎉
Another brilliantly informative and entertaining video! Great job, T G V!
Fascinating!! Such a feast!!
Congrats TGV! I know how much you love the Janeiro and glad it's back in your collection. I remember the video of you timing your coffee on the stove. Seems like ages ago now. Regards, one of your OG, John
haha, indeed! Naturally your Fiat was snuck in there as a nod to you amico mio!
Grazie John,
Best regards as always,
T.
Hi TGV!
And back it is! I remember the old videos featuring this model. Congrats.
Let’s see how long it is going to stay this time… 😉
Best regards,
Claus
The way you edit and film is top notch!
Like You TGV, my love of watches has Always been enmeshed with my love of history so you really knocked it out of the park for me with this one!
Thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏
Best regards,
TGV
Probably mentioned before, but I like everything about your channel, the intro, the history lessons, the language, the style
What an amazing video!
Being from Rio my self I was always wondering why this Tissot is called Janeiro!
Thanks a lot!
Unfortunately the watch is too small for me, but I just purchased the new Tissot with Pulsometer bezel!
Beautiful watch and worthy of a place in the collection. Great video, as always. Btw, love the jacket. Details please👍
It's such a fascinating watch its so you and anyone that has been watching you for years thinks yeah sounds about right. Great history lesson as always see you next time.
Lovely - and you’ve given me a great idea for a new strap for my Dan Henry 1939 :)
I was shocked by how nice your kitchen looks, your living room is so cluttered 😅. Great review as always. Thank you
You have such an amazing story telling , I love the fact you incorporate history. What a great looking watch these are the Tissot I like , gold gilt on a black dial reminds me of my Tudor BB, what a fantastic combination and the onion crown to me makes winding a watch easier and again reminds me of my 1916 trench watch, and to finish off a lovely piece the strap is made for that dial great combo, will have a look at the company who made the strap. The Tudor was a good sacrifice esp with you having the Rolex day date
Glad you got that back👍 speaking of Bialettis I just cleaned mine with vinegar and salt brought it up a treat
I remember being surprised that you sold it at the time. Pleased for you that you’ve got it back.
Pure class 1930s aesthetics and another reminder of how tasteful and observing Dan Henry is with his 1939 Chronograph hommage. Without any doubt a very exciting and special genre but given the delicacy and expense for servicing also a challenging one. But hey, no Janeiro equals no Speedy? Count me in!
Still remember those days you were making coffee with the Janeiro and SARB033 and Squale 1521 50 Atmos was hanging around. Time flies but classics remain. 😊
