    Man I normally never leave comments on videos. Never like videos. Or do that extra stuff.. Just saw it as a waste of time.. But your videos have showed me that taking your time. Doing those extra steps. Really makes a difference. For instance the extra time you take to make these videos to truly help your fans. Actually helps us lol. The extra time you take to perfect little things during your builds makes the end item look amazing. And honestly I hope I can make items in my projects atleast somewhat comparable to yours. Thanks to these videos I honestly think I can. Please keep doing what you do.. It helps me sooo much and gives me confidence and ideas for my passion.. Time to make my dreams a reality, bought my first router table with router and an additional plunge router for over head cuts. And a table saw. So excited. Can't wait to build my very first custom box. Thank you for your amazing videos brodi. You ROCK. Keep rocking on

      You can build much simpler boxes. Only mega audiophiles need* boxes with a million chambers in them. I've had boxes that didn't have any chambers and it sounded just fine.

  • @SpeakerBuilder
    @SpeakerBuilder 8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Each bass box incorporates dimensions specific to a driver's electrical and mechanical properties. In other words, you cannot put just any bass driver into any box. This box looks really awesome, although it is designed for a specific driver, and that driver must be identified and used otherwise it will not work.
    The other issue is that vented and TL bass boxes tend to have a low f3, and any bass system located inside a vehicle will present a significant rise in frequency response below 50 Hz, producing a boomy sound. The sealed bass systems with and f3 of 50 Hz are preferred in vehicles for this reason. I welcome your thoughts.

    • @chrisdolton870

      I hate sealed boxes cause of the air pressure waves they cause, maybe im just sensitive.

    • @sethh8892
      @sethh8892 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can you properly define "boomy bass"? Tight, punchy, and boomy bass is vaguely defined and is usualy very subjective. If the box is built properly, you won't have the supposed "boomy bass" you proclaim.

    • @ohyeahyeah1400
      @ohyeahyeah1400 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sethh8892 I agree with Chris Dalton, I know that ported enclosures are much louder but with a sealed enclosure in a car you get a weird pressure feeling in your ears, even if it's at low volume.

    • @sethh8892
      @sethh8892 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ohyeahyeah1400 you'll get that from both, it's probably because Port enclosures can be tuned and therefore are generally tuned lower. (From 30-40) however most sealed enclosures stay around 40 and 50. High frequencies like 40 and 50 played can enclosure can create that. Also ears that aren't used to SPL will often do that "just because". Sealed closures are much more accurate but are extremely inefficient. I've never had that weird pressure that they supposedly cause, they've always sounded weak and boring to me. It all depends on tuning.

    I found your channel this afternoon on accident. It’s very interesting. I’ve been binge watching!😂🤣 Back in 1999-2003 I was big into car stereo setups and equipment. Then I totaled my car, could only afford a single cab Toyota truck and so I packed my equipment away. Well, in the last 15 years my ears have lost most of their taste for crazy bass. Which is a bummer because I’ve still got my old equipment and a full wood shop! I want to build one of your designs but I’d never use it!!😂🤣 Wonder if my missus wants a pounding stereo in her Equinox?... 😂 👍🏻👍🏻 The last box I made was in 2001 and it was the ported box that was suggested and drawn up in the owners manual for the 2001 model Kicker Soloberic L7 12”.
    I had two powered by a 2001 model DX700 mono amp. I had an extra Optima Yellow Top and a 2 farad capacitor. Plus my components and a ZR240 to power them. Pretty badass for its time! I’ve still got the amps and subs but the components, crossovers, capacitor and battery and cables and fuse blocks have since “disappeared”. I should sell my 12”s and buy one badass 8” woofer and make a layered box of yours for under the back seat of my truck. Power it with the DX700.
    Thing is I used to listen to “acid techno” and “industrial metal”. Now I listen to mostly Bluegrass and the stand up bass REALLY drowns out everything else when you’ve got a woofer of any kind. You probably have some way to tune it tho I’d imagine.
    Man has stuff changed in the last 15 years!! Your channel is great!! I subbed and am looking forward to future builds and installs!!👍🏻👍🏻

    Nice work, CAF! The grooves for the extending brace-walls, really impressed me. Have not seen that before!
    You really have a nice tool setup now! You should consider a pneumatic nail-gun, if you don't have one already. I used to use a cheap one, with the thinnest nails. It's useful for tacking pieces together when building stuff with glue, and attach wood templates when routing.
    I have never used those red safety handle things, but when routing large pieces, I think it would be safer and more solid to just grab the wood directly. The handles are probably great for smaller pieces, where you have to grab close to the bit, though! Just my thoughts :)

    • @CarAudioFabrication
      @CarAudioFabrication  10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks man! I do have a pnumatic nail gun, I just try to limit using tools that I know many might not own. I do use the router though because I feel lt is a must own tool. On larger pieces it is nice to just use your hands, but the idea is if the router suddenly grabs the material, it just pulls it out from under the push block, no harm done. In all honesty I feel much more confident using the router with them than without.

      The space used by the 45's is usually accounted for in the design. The "larger" size also allow for a smooth flow of air through the line. Convex would be idea but are unrealistic to make from MDF

    Hi, My name is Jim, I just wanted to say, "Wow" What a Kick Ass Box Looking Friend, Everything looks with the box looks like it was very well planned and thought out. What is with the 32Hz? Was it the Mfg of the Subwoofer that you want and decided to go with 32Hz, I tried searching Google to see the reason behind and really couldn't much and nothing as far as being able to help answer my question when it came to building the box so I just left it as that and thought he must know what he's doing,...!
    Anyway I wish I had 1/2 of your skills in order to do some of that stuff, That stuff is just great. I can't even pick up a drill or a router let a lone 1/2 of the other required hardware needed in order to just get started doing a job like that probably. → Me ← coming from me it would be a complete failure, I've had 4 back surgeries, 3 back fusions, 1 neck fusion and Elbow surgery. But my mind runs a mile a minute wanting to do these things but I'm forced having to find the proper people in my area that I can trust to do the job correctly and or that isn't there to come and rip me off at my home when they see me walking with a cane or something,...
    "CarAudioFabrication" - But, I would really appreciate it if you could build me a Custom Box of sort, Actually you don't even have to build me the box I'd would just be so really Flipping Happy and Thrilled to see just the Plans for it and hopefully I can find someone down here with your skills and one that can interpret and build.
    The Vehicle I own is a 2014 Camaro. I'm Not sure on a couple things as No One has told me what difference it makes facing the Subwoofer either it be towards the front where the passengers are sitting or the rear...
    If you do have the Time and I beg that you do please. The Subwoofer I purchased I fear might be to tall for my truck area. I also have purchased a {Sony XM-GS100} Amp along with the {Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12} Subwoofer. Including the {AudioControl LC2I 2-Channel} Line Out Converter and Subwoofer Control and {Audio Control ACR1 Remote Control} for Audio Processors.
    Is it possible that you could make me plans with the Subwoofer Box Facing the Rear of the Car but I would like the Port to be facing the Front of the Car, Thru the Seats? I want the people in the Vehicle to be able to feel the pounding of the Bass. I would Really Appreciate ANY Help that you would be able to give to me in this area as my Items should all be arriving sometime LATE this week or at the Beginning of the following week.
    Again. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post.

    Wow Mark, I just requested a box design from you for a Fi Audio SSD 12. I can't wait to get the design man and get started. Your videos are awesome. One thing that is really cool is that you are willing to teach others. Some don't want to give up these techniques. Keep them coming man.

    I have a 2002 Ford F-150 Supercrew. I am running a full Rockford Fosgate system with 1 10 inch shallow mount. I would like to run 2 10's with the amps in the center of the box. Do you have anything like that to get an idea from?

    Different design concept for a "box". Mark, would it be possible for add approximated build times or labor associated with your individual project minus any video production times? Would be extremely helpful as one tries to gauge complexity of builds. Obviously skill sets and garage setups would vary, but average approximations would be great.

    How does this box compare to the old VT boxes ( Virtual Technology )? I have been using VT boxes sence 2001 but I have to make them because Virtual Technology went out of business around 2002 I think.

    Nice box design, I am a guitarist/bass/ piano player, hence my interest in design. especially crossovers. I can only afford passive units but that's fine for now.I am a beginner. Thanks for the tips. I never used a router, are they hard to control?. Have you ever heard of Magnaplanar speakers? Doodeldog

    This was awesome, I wondered about putting angles into a sub box for aiding in the airflow looks like i was right. .5 Box, as in I watched the whole thing but don't have money to make an enclosure, thus i haven't really followed the instructions. Also subbed.

    Thats kinda my dream subwoofer box but. I dont own a Router, Table Saw, or Circular Saw all I have is a drill and impact driver which they are handy but I need that circular saw. I guess because its cheaper than a Table Saw. and the router Im not familiar with the tool. plus the router bits. such and such. but great video. CAF>

    I have a question for porting? I'm planing a box for 2 alpine sws 12d4 subs the spec sheet calls for a vent that is 1 inch wide but I recently saw the same subs in a box and the vent was huge but short into the box probably 5 inch wide by 9 or 10 tall (roughly lol). it sounded great and hit hard . how do I calculate the way to make this sort of port?

    Very nice rundown on making this box. back to the beginning, when you're looking at your blueprints. I used to work at a place where we had an old program by rockford fosgate that would tell us recommended port shapes and lengths if given the box dimensions and sub details... what program are you using?

    Hey I’m in high school and I’m new to making boxes well….sort of, I am but I have made a couple and I have done probably upwards of 2 days worth of time researching note taking and etc… I am a quick learner and easy learner I like detail oriented learning, I am wondering would you be willing to videocall and teach me, like yoga did for Luke? I am really enthusiastic about this and will work really hard to achieve this goal I have to be able to sell these! It would be a dream come true if you would and be so so grateful! God blesssss!

    This video was great! I recommend you try using Spax MDF screws that can be had from Home Depot. They are self drilling and self countersinking. Great screws and the price is about the same as what you are using now. www.spax.us/en/mdf-hardwood-screws.html
    They are usually in a separate section of the same isle the other fasteners are on.

    When you go into making the braces, the video shows how you make the holes using the template, but there are no measurements anywhere. The brace piece just shows how big the overall piece is (13" x 11.5") and the holes are much closer together. What are the lines for at the top and bottom on the brace? How do know that your drawing the hole openings straight and not at a diagonal or something?
