@youngmango4508 so I read in a lot of old fiberglass box forums that it could help with decreasing internal sound reflection and resonance. Being able to build the enclosure to exact air specs would likely eliminate the need for the deadener but I knew it was an estimated air space and not perfect so I threw it in there to be safe. I can’t tell you if it truly made a difference or not because I didn’t test it before putting the material in🤦🏻♂️. That was another mistake I made in this process.
Much appreciate the share. Got a Lil sick when you F.F. the action cam on head but saving me time and hassle with how you outlined the area using a plastic sheet will save me having to pull the rear side paneling on the wagon. Thanks
@sfantuch what are you complaining about? The enclosure has over 5 layers of glass which is more than sufficient for what it’s required to support. The only surface that isn’t a complex shape and flat is the bottom which is wood so it didn’t require structural bracing. Not to mention it’s been solid with no cracks or issues for several years of use so far. Do you have a video or something you have done to show us what right looks like?

That was a great relaxing video bro. I'm 42 now but all through the mid too late and early 90's and 2000's This is how i made extra money on the side working for myself through mostly just word of mouth. I had a honda accord and took out my back seats and built probably my most crazy setup ever in place of the back seats using basically the same method. That car was crazy loud back in those day's before thing's really blow up in the bass and system world with some of the crazy stuff they got out there these day's. I made good money doing stuff smaller though like you did. My car at that time was the biggest project like this i ever did and it turned out amazing and clean sounding from highs and lows a well balanced combo between treble and bass. It was all flowing nicely it was just a flat surface over that wide area instead it looked like a wave kinda with speaker's from 8's too a 15 being the largest in the middle 8's on the outer then some 10's and the 15 it was so beautiful and i wish i still owned that car. A buddy of mine borrowed it and got into a bad accident and by the time i was allowed too actually Physically see and touch my car the majority of whatever was still good from that massive project of a system was stolen so i was told by the lot it was being kept at while investigation was going on because it was a bad accident unfortunately. But watching this brought back those memories of the amount of time and sweat and everything that went into that build. Thank you for the relaxing video and memories it gave me of a time when this was how i made a living all those year's ago.

This fiberglass build video is better than many easier found, higher viewed videos I've run across. Than you. Bit confused on why you used a kicker amp and Skar sub, unless of course you just had one of those lying around, lol.
Yeah the amp I had and it was within power range so I stuck with it haha if I add another sub I will go skar for the amp as well though! Thank you for the positive feedback, it’s much appreciated. I wish my confidence in front of the camera was better in this series as compared to the videos I’m making now. It would have been a much better filmed series had it been so.
Yeah it’s very sturdy and has been in constant use since 2019. This video was a sped up version of the original build series, the entire box has minimum of 4 layers of glass.
Great work, any tips on how to lay the fiber flat and clean like yours? Last time I attempted it, I had bunch of large bubbles, and my initial base layer was very wavy, not clean like yours.
It all about percoating the surface with a light coat of resin before applying the chop mat then using the brush to press resin into the mat instead of brushing it into the mat. Pressing releases the air bubbles; brushing won’t.
I realize this is 2 yrs old now - and I plan to look into your other videos you mentioned in other comments here about bracing and such - but my question is - is the sound deadening material INSIDE the sub box to prevent flexing, or stops it from shaking the side panels of the car? Would it be beneficial to add deadener directly to the car's body behind the carpet in the trunk too? Would it be advantageous to remove the carpeting completely on the side and use all the nooks and crannies for extra volume, or will that be bad for vibration since the box would be nearly touching the body panels without anything but a few layers of sound deadener between the fiberglass and body panels? I realize it also puts a damper on the installation as well getting it in to fit and take it back out, but I wouldn't plan on ever taking it back out unless I was going to rebuild it again anyway - and though perhaps using a few bolts could really hold it in place well too as part of the bracing? Sorry for all the questions - your build really inspired me and gave me a lot to think about! Great job! Another question - would a 15" sub with roughly 600-800 RMS be too much for a side mount sealed enclosure like this? I have two and was thinking of putting one on both sides of the car's trunk. Even if they are slightly angled upwards and forwards like you have in your video - does that make the sound from the opposite sub cancel out at all with both woofers in the same phase? Mostly a bit curious if a fiberglass box would work for a pair of 15"s and save some space for larger things in the trunk. (Brand is Stereo Integrity SQL 15s if that matters)
Alrighty so before responding I will say upfront that I am not an audio expert by any means and what I say next is based off of information gathering and personal experience. I’m gonna try and hit all of your questions but if I miss one, hit me back in a second response. So as for the sound deadening, I placed it inside the enclosure as a result of information I read in mid 2000s audio forums that stated that for fiberglass enclosures it would help kill standing waves and make the enclosure sound less hollow. I wasn’t sure if it would matter much but from my research it def wasn’t going to hinder anything either. Sound deadener can and should be applied to any thin metal to reduce vibration heard from outside the trunk and removing the carpet to get any extra hidden volume is always a great idea especially if your subs require a higher sealed volume to be effective. The subs you have need 2 cubic feet of airspace each and depending on the size of your trunk that might be hard to achieve without using the hidden recesses behind the carpet. I have never personally seen a 15” in a sealed corner mount enclosure but that doesn’t mean it’s not doable as long as the enclosure is built with enough layers to hold the weight or the 15” and larger enough to reach the 2 cubic feet of internal volume. Typically a molded enclosure will stay in place fairly well with very minor securing needed. I have seen people line the outside with velcro strips to grip the carpet flooring when the enclosure is installed and it work just fine. “mine has never moved this entire time” Lastly from what I have read, subwoofers are omnidirectional so facing them at one another should not cause any issues at all in performance.
Hmm🤔 Still thinking about what kind of subwoofer I want but I will definitely do the wood floor at some point! Good video, shows the making of the box well.
Yeah man, I actually think I’m gonna get one of the Bosch battery powered ones shortly. I haven’t done anything to need one since I made this enclosure.
Hello! one of the cleanest video ive seen so far. I actually have the same brand subwoofer but i have the SDR12. I am actually doing the same idea but using the spare tire area of my hatch. how long did this take you?
That’s not pink foam it is stretch fleece that was stapled and glued to the fiberglass and wood frame to soak up resin which created the initial layer of the face of the enclosure. I have a 4 video series on my channel that goes into detail of the enclosure build. This was just a time lapse of the entire trunk project.
It’s more than enough for my needs at this point in my life. I have had 4k watt systems pushing 12’s and 15’s in the past and I don’t need that anymore to be happy lol. Given the space that I wanted to occupy to keep trunk space available; I think porting it properly would take up more space than I would like. By purely guesstimating, .7 is around the air space this box has which is what this sub needed sealed.
I've seen this video multiple times for reference, as i recently got my hands on an enclosure very similar to yours for my g37. The question i have us what did you use to make the brackets that hold up your amp?
I picked up some 1/8” thick steel from Lowe’s I believe but I’m sure 1/8” aluminum would work as well depending on the length on the amp and the weight.
@@Foxcraze awesome I'll look into getting something like the product you got. From my plans, it looks like the best route to go with would be putting the amp there. Thanks for the advice. Much appreciated.
@@Foxcraze thanks again for the reply. I'm picking up some aluminum 1/8 thick bar. It's 36" long by 1" wide. It's for an small Alpine amp I'm gonna use for a single 12" sub, so I'm hoping it works.
This video was just what I needed!! I got a sub from my brother for my birthday a couple days ago and wanted to do this exactly. I was just wondering if i should cut a hole in order to make it ported. Also where do you recommended putting the amp?
Making a port is purely up to the sub you are running. If you haven’t ever made a box before calculating the port size and all that might be a bit much. If the sub will function in a sealed enclosure I would def consider doing it that way. I recommend mounting the sub under the deck lid to ensure it gets airflow and is out of the way. Amps mounted under the trunk carpet tend to over heat if they aren’t allowed to get cool air or if they don’t have good internal cooling systems pre installed.
It’s 2” or 2.5” wide regular masking tape. That painters might use inside your house or when prepping a car for paint. Overlapping it in layers works great to protect the carpet.
So I purely estimated on this thing due to the wooden base but if you make it out of all fiberglass then you could fill it with water and convert gallons to cubic feet.
Creating complex shapes is easy to do when using fleece. Stretching and gluing and or stapling fleece down on an area will give you a complex shape that you can then saturate in resin to get a solid foundation. Once it hardens, cover it internally and externally in layers of fiberglass to strengthen it.
Thank you, I have a four-part video series on the actual build of the box that details all of the items needed to make your own. You will need to look back in my videos to find them however because they are from about four years ago.
You did a fantastic job man. I've been fabricating since the 90's and it's good to see that people still do it today. 👊

Good God this was therapeutic and very satisfying to watch... I had to sub, just awesome. Thank you for this
I really appreciate the positivity, I will be doing more videos like this as time goes on!
Wow that is an amazing amount of dedication! Turned out awesome!
I appreciate the kinds words! I plan to something a little different this fall.
Legit AF! Want this for my Q50 🔥
Appreciate you! I have more detailed videos of the entire process deeper in the video section.
This is some magnificent job my man! Congrats!
Glad you like it! Appreciate the positivity!
Wow!!! You're an artist!!!
Appreciate it!!
I came back just to watch again.Although I have a system in my car.I want to scrap it and get this done.
That’s awesome! I really enjoyed putting this together and think I wanna switch it up here soon also!
Cleanest build i have ever seen
Damn that’s to kind, thank you!
Man I need to much bass to run something this small but boyyy do I gotta say.. you made that look damn good!
I appreciate it!
it looks amazing, but is the back wall of that thing actually stiff enough to prevent it from flexing?
Yeah it’s very sturdy and has been in constant use since 2019. This video was a sped up version of the original build series, the entire box has minimum of 4 layers of glass.
not the trolling motor hack! thats pretty genius!
Appreciate it! It’s not the prettiest but it’s worked like a charm every time I need to remove it from the trunk!
@@Foxcraze I have a little skar 8 in the back of my rav 4 and this little trick is gonna work perfect !
Fantastic!!

Thank you!
Very nice work bro.
Appreciate that!!
Holy Crap that’s freaking AWESOME
Appreciate that bro! Still looking as good as it did when I installed it all!
“mine has never moved this entire time”
Lastly from what I have read, subwoofers are omnidirectional so facing them at one another should not cause any issues at all in performance.
Hmm🤔 Still thinking about what kind of subwoofer I want but I will definitely do the wood floor at some point! Good video, shows the making of the box well.
Thank you! There is a 4 part series further back in channel just on the enclosure build.
he deserves a router for xmas
Yeah man, I actually think I’m gonna get one of the Bosch battery powered ones shortly. I haven’t done anything to need one since I made this enclosure.
Hello! one of the cleanest video ive seen so far. I actually have the same brand subwoofer but i have the SDR12. I am actually doing the same idea but using the spare tire area of my hatch. how long did this take you?
Due to my overly busy family and work schedule about a month. But it could have been faster !
This made my day.
Glad you enjoyed it man!
Awesome work I appreciate it brother! 🥇🥇🥇🥇
Thanks for the positivity!!
The box didn't need a hole to allow the movement of the air caused by the speaker?
The subwoofer works in both ported and sealed enclosures. The ported would have required more airspace so I decided on sealed.
@@Foxcraze such a great job
Thank you man!!
So how did you mold the front? It shows you cutting the speaker hole and then cut to you adding the pink foam.
Get this man a router! Lol just kiddin great work!
You ain’t lying I need one for real haha
Ok…10 minutes with movie magic. Nice work tho👍
Haha yeah…. that shit def took a minute to get complete that’s for sure! Appreciate the comment, have a great one!
so clean! does the wood floor help
with the sound?? or was it just for aesthetics?
I appreciate it brother! Honestly I never thought if it would help or not but it is a good question! I did it just for aesthetics.
Reflective surfaces are terrible for sound
This is incredible. Does it bother you that there are two wood patterns right next to eachother?
Damn now that you mention it, yeah it does lol. I have some extra planks and might just fix that this weekend.👌🏼
This dude is a beast, 1 minute in
Appreciate the positivity, means a lot!
Bro excellent work. I want to build one for two skar 8" Subs with the amp in the middle. This is helping me learn how to begin. Thank you
I’m glad it was able to help you out and good luck on your project!
How does it play? Could it possibly be ported? What’s the internal volume of something like that? I got a couple 10’s that love .7cuft
You did exactly what i want to do with my car as I still want to be able to drop the seats.
Well it’s a fun project, I highly recommend it!
Nice video! I'm adding another 'project' to my car build. 🤣
Sweet, if you want a more detailed how to of everything I have separate videos on the channel outlining damn near every step of the process.
Is the cabinet calculated?
Not perfectly but it’s estimated to be somewhere between .90 and 1 Cuft.
Awesome build. Attention to detail is great!
Appreciate the kinds words! Gonna be redoing it sometime in the next year.
How was the sound with the corner sun? (Versus traditional enclosures)
From what I can tell, It really didn’t change in sound quality. Both sounded the same but the corner enclosure def helped free up space.
Good deal man hope it all works out for ya!
@@Foxcraze thank you man. I'm trying to, but it might be more difficult for me since my amp is bigger in size than yours from what it seems.
That's Tight!
Appreciate that!
Beautiful job. Came out perfect. 👍
Appreciate that!!
Amps mounted under the trunk carpet tend to over heat if they aren’t allowed to get cool air or if they don’t have good internal cooling systems pre installed.
came out nice
Thank you!
Man thats really clean and impressive work 🔥👌
I appreciate that brother, thank you for the positivity!!
awesome job man, that looks sick
Appreciate that!
Wow! Awesome job. Looks great
I appreciate that man, thanks!
Beautiful job.Neat and discreet
Thank you!!
what tape did you use to keep the resin off of the carpet>
It’s 2” or 2.5” wide regular masking tape. That painters might use inside your house or when prepping a car for paint. Overlapping it in layers works great to protect the carpet.
Hell of a job man beautiful
Appreciated it brother!
@@Foxcraze np im tryna be like you my boy
How would you measure the internal volume of an enclosure like this?
So I purely estimated on this thing due to the wooden base but if you make it out of all fiberglass then you could fill it with water and convert gallons to cubic feet.
Genius! Well done
Appreciate that brother!
It turned out damn nice! 👍👍✌️
I appreciate that!
bro, really nice job. that was awesome
Was the front of the box made with foam and resin then fiberglass?
Creating complex shapes is easy to do when using fleece. Stretching and gluing and or stapling fleece down on an area will give you a complex shape that you can then saturate in resin to get a solid foundation. Once it hardens, cover it internally and externally in layers of fiberglass to strengthen it.
@@Foxcraze genius
Hey, can u tell me exactly what is this pink material between 3:18 and 3:40?
Trying to find some information but 0 effects with this searching. :(
No problem, that is ordinary fleece. It can be bought at Walmart in the craft section, at a Hobby lobby or Joanne’s craft store.
Like it super clean job!!
Appreciate it brother!
Soy de argentina,de diez el trabajo, podría saber materiales para la construcción de la caja?., gracias!!!
Thank you, I have a four-part video series on the actual build of the box that details all of the items needed to make your own. You will need to look back in my videos to find them however because they are from about four years ago.
