I picked up my 2020 Yamaha R1 this week after years of saying I'd buy another R1 after they did the mid-cycle refresh. Well, Yamaha didn't refresh the R1 until the 2020 model year and by that point, my dream bike BMW S1000RR. So, after a year with the BMW, here we are! I decided to still pick up the R1 haha. S1000RR isn't going anywhere so this will be interesting! Let me know what you guys think of the first ride!

The R1 is also an emotion for me. I got the feelings for it from your channel only. Your 09 r1 i loved it and one day i ll own my own r1. No matter how good other bikes are. You channel is a dream come true. I'm soooo torn between the BMW and R1. Now you have both. I'm dieing for content. I'm so close to purchase. I know you need more time on the R1 but pleeeease let me know which you prefer. Like an early comparison video. I understand the yamaha hasn't been modified yet but you must have some sort of pro and con list in your head. I must know. I need to make the right choice!

I ended up with the S1000RR in 2015 due to trans issues on the R1 at the time and the stiff seat. The ergonomics of the S1k felt better to me. But I think that can all be tweaked with aftermarket. I tend to be on longer rides and the rider triangle on the new R1 is pretty aggressive for long hauls I feel, but again that is where a different seat and good adj rearsets come into play. Congrats on the new ride!

I got my 2020 back in December and I love it all though it can’t be flashed yet unfortunately but for a stick ecu, it is a fast bike.. also the cluster can be changed to track mode which show’s a lap timer and makes the RPM bigger but only show’s from I believe 8k and up

When your talking about modern litre bikes its not so much about the performance they are all crazy fast its about how it makes you feel and i agree the R1 has a special place..

That vid brings back memories, I had a 13 r1, then 15, once the ecu gets flashed it makes so much of a difference, I did my own tune and all work, it's amazing how much power you can get out of these, maybe I might get my butt chewed up for that but I've used two Bros exhaust with locamoto 2 belly pan and that just cleaned up the look of the bike, sounded amazing without being too obnoxious, sold it year ago, bought a Raider, sold that peace of crap and kawasaki z900 and I don't like that bike either, might have to start saving for new r1, z900 maxes out at 149 and I can't keep up with my friends ;(

@Motonosity i got a dark and even higher windshield (on my full black r1) and it makes so much difference from the look and air forces

Power2 smoother throttle response to full power
3 and 4 is like riding a 600 4 is mostly for wet conditions, all modes can be adjusted to suit your ability and preferences🤙🏼 ride safe brother!

I just personally was never a bmw sportbike fan. AND!!! Have ALWAYS owned a yamah lol. Since I started racing quads LONG LONG LONG ago 😣 Yamaha has taken care of me and had my back without question and show my appreciation by always having one in the garage. Sometimes I see something else I really like and have made the decision to purchase, but it was ALWAYS a second bike. Anyway, I think this is the first time I even hear, much less see they offered a raven edition for 2020. I may be owing another yamaha. That thing is GORGEOUS!!!

Honestly though, it is nice that stock bikes aren't obnoxiously loud.
One thing that is interesting to know (if you don't already know it) is that there is a kind of "secret compartment" under the right front-top fairing - like behind the headlight and to the right next to the clutch cable. You can access it only if you unscrew few screws and it is kind a deep pocket. I am still thinking how to utilize it and how to use it easier than unscrewing bolts every time...
My suggestion for a mod would be keyless ignition. I am really interested what can be fitted but haven't had the time to investigate.
U can get a flash to set the heat / temp level lowered.
