Not to mention your R1 top end speed is only 44mph...slightly slower than the S1000RR :)

1 Fuel gauge - After a couple of rides you know how far a full tank will take you. It will be about 200 to 250 km's (125 to 155 miles)
2 Power - Needs exhaust, flash and tune before can compare power.
3 Packages - Up to user preference
4 Quickshifter - You are correct on this. Aftermarket quickshifter is the way to go if want something better.
5 Heat - I like my exhaust hot but then it is colder where I live so that's probably why
6 Screen - Totally agree though I have bought an aftermarket screen for all my bikes. Corsa is the way to go.
I have the 2016 R1.
Worst thing about the bike IMO was the throttle control. It was so snatchy that it was dangerous especially when being fully leaned in a corner and cracking the throttle on.
Flashing the bike and modifying the Electronic Throttle Valve maps fixed this.
Also the suspension is quite hard which is understandable for the track. So have softened up the front fully for the road.

I’ve had the pleasure of owning and riding the 2020 R1 and that bike is amazing! The only downside is that it still can not be flashed yet.. the bmw can be so it is kind of an unfair comparison.. the new R1 has so much potential that we have not yet seen

Hey motonosity, great vid!! Ive been wanting an mt 09 for a very long time but im just a bit concerned of the back suspension because people said it was too soft, do you have any tips or advice on mitigating that?
I have a 2016 r1 and you can change the qss settings to 2 and you will have smoother shifts 👌
Setting 1 is harder shifts for racing
The S1000 has a full exhaust and a flash already... the R1 doesn't...so comparing is like comparing apples and oranges isn't it?
Why can't fruit be compared?
That'd be valid if I had never ridden the S1K before any mods were done.

Mychael - Yessir. Bone stock, no. But that’s with the severe factory restriction which the euro bike doesn’t have. After the flash that get rid of the restriction (not a performance flash) it was far faster than the R1. But yeah def need a completely fair race once both bikes are equal in mods.

I LOVE my R1M, but... Twitchy throttle, and it hates being in town/city driving, does get hot (but mostly when you're driving it slower I believe), its thirsty, and the no fuel gage with such a sophisticated TFT display.... A blast on the highway and curvy mountains and the track. No bike is perfect, but we can still love them.
How's the vibration on both your bikes?
I have a 2018 GSX-R1000R, and even with extra thick hand grips, the vibration is horrible. (Never dropped or wrecked, it came off the showroom with crazy vibration)

U say the s1k is faster but it has a few performance upgrades and a good tune try doing the same to the r1 then compare it to the s1k im curious to see if the s1k is actually faster after that
Any help with mapping it? I’m on a 19 plate wants my weight etc . Traction control is always off so pointless just the mapping is doing my nut in any advice appreciated 👍
How's the fueling? Past versions reviewers said it was very snatchy and hard to modulate on/off. They said a tune was job one to make it rideable.

You ahould really try out the kaoko cruise control upgrade for the R1, and maybe some nice aftermarket grip warmers
I started watching when you had the old r1 and I loved the exhaust on that. You should get the same exhaust on the new r1.
I also found that amazing that my Yamaha R6 2019 didn't have a fuel guage. Its something we take for granted I guess. Its bizarre that they just didnt include it.

Hi Brent, I hope this helps.. it (R1 and R6) doesn't have a gauge, but it has a fuel counter (right after the odometer). it counts the volume of fuel consumed since last reset. you need to know how much fuel have on the tank tho or any reference where you can base the reading from. or do what i do, i reset the counter every time i gas up. and since I always just do a full tank, i know low fuel would be around 13.5L.
lol. ok.. so you know about it, and I wrote too soon. anyway.. i just reset the counter whenever i fill up. its a lot better than nothing, and is actually accurate per my experience on my R6. :)

Okay, I gotta say something about the fuel gauge...
no the R1 does not have a fuel gauge to show your current fuel level, BUT it does show the fuel used. So as you drive it will tell you EXACTLY how much fuel you have consumed right down to a tenth of a gallon. This works excellent because the bike holds 4.5 gallons and the light comes on at 3.5 gallons of fuel consumed.
I am kinda surprised Motonosity says "until the light comes on, you don't know how much gas you have" 4:45... Brett do you not know about the fuel consumption gauge?

Nope guess not 😂😂, I was cooking dinner while I was watching so I guess I missed that part. I bought a 2018 R1 and came from a R6 so I was stoked to even get a consumption gauge. Awesome bike and spot on video. One thing I "hate" is that you can't make adjustments (for mode and such) while moving. Many times I have forgotten something was on (like lift control) and wanted to turn it off but have to wait till I can stop completely to adjust.
Grayson Young hah no worries man. Yeah the mode thing is odd considering on my old R1 you could. Just had to pull the clutch. Suppose it makes sense with all the additional settings though. Just not safe to be changing a bunch of stuff while moving.
Buys an all black bike...rides it in the summer in South Texas... Complains about how hot the bike is :-)
ha the heat has nothin to do with it being black! I've got no heat complaints about my S1000RR in the Texas heat.

Wow speed doesnt even change. Just got an 03 r6 struggling with numb hands. Any ideas. Has an aftermarkt exhasut on. And half metal half have grip. Grips ? Just got heavier bar ends
Grips will probably make the biggest difference. Some bikes just have that vibration, unfortunately. This R1 actually does get my hands numb after a while.

I don’t consider the fuel gage thing nitpicky. I really don’t understand how Yamaha hasn’t added one yet.
I’m oddly surprised you didn’t mention the seat, but if you haven’t taken it on a long ride, I can definitely understand lol, new seat is next mod on my 2020 R1.
You talked about flashing your BMW but you didn't flash your r1 how can you properly compare did you flash them both
Because I'm comparing the R1 to how the S1000RR was before mods.
Well you can change on the dash so it shows you how much fuel the injectors have put through, so when it reaches 15liters the reservlight comes on its spot on. Cant remember exactly how but ive used it and know its there. I didnt get it you say the R1 is slower then a s1krr exept when both bikes are stock then the r1 is faster but when you tune the s1krr its faster and then you hate the R1 for it ? =) Well the R1 is also restricted it has a euro4 catalytic converter tha eats a lot of ponys !

Ur lucky to have a reserve light my CBR 250rr MC 22 (yes the 4 cyl 250) doesn't have shit u need to open the cap and guess. If it runs out of fuel it's really hard to start up because of the carburettor.
I have new Gen 2020 R6 which I am keeping I love it! Honestly enough bike for the street. My next bike tho will be the R1M or S1000RR M probably stick with Yamaha its not all about highway smackdowns or street Rossi on the daily for me but the Yamaha makes music when your riding it! The BMW is impressive I have been on it. R1 with a full graves is proper.
I agree with you on the fuel gauge thing I had it on my Ninja 300 but on my ZX6R nope just a fuel light when it hits 1 gallon left, every bike should have a real fuel gauge.
I got an RSV4 Factory...I don't dislike anything about it! I love it!! I also used to own an R1(2006)btw..dope R1!

Good comments. Low revs pick up in traffic and brakes could be better. That apart, a corner champion and solid performance . Like any super quick bike needs adequate challenging twisty roads to shine like star. Like here in southern Spain ;-))
How much is your R1?
USA spec r1 is more restricted than s1000rr according to NHTSA stock r1 make 188bhp euro spec (197bhp) while s1000rr make 203bhp stock same as european model but usa model s1000rr has diff tune thats its has flat spot but on top end the power is same as european spec s1000rr but r1 has lower power fig for usa same with new cb1000rrr that also makes 188bhp stock all details here- www.motorcycle.com/mini-features/us-spec-2021-honda-cbr1000rr-r-fireblade-sp-claims-188-hp.html
Came down to a '22 S1000RR M package or an R1 Anniversary edition. All the BMW's are pre-sold (for months) within 250 miles of me. R1 is coming in 2 weeks at dealership 10 miles away. Decisions decisions.

I definitely think heat is a problem for all 1000s. And yes after a while it just gets annoying.

I remember dreaming about this 2000 r1 team blue on the show room at the dealership I worked at. I saved money and sold my r6 for it finally...crashed it driving out of the door. Not joking. Man I still loved her.
In Canada, the 2020 S1000rr is cheaper than the 2020 R1
Personally until that R1 has an unlocked ECU I feel you can't say it's slower than a S1000RR. When the R1 is unlocked then you can compare the apples to apples. You have a tuned S1000RR of course it's slower.
Also not sure if you've played with the auto blipper settings but you can set it for a sort of "race" setting. I changed mine so that it's more of a casual shift and it's a lot smoother on up shifts.
How do you edit it to “race” you mean setting 1-2 lol
@@jessejames583 haha well, by "sort of race" I mean more aggressive. Not an actual race setting. Says in the manual setting 1 is designed for maximum acceleration, while setting 2 is designed to give smooth shifts at halfway or less throttle openings.
WideOpenThrottle wel it’s more actually for the rpm 1 is really for 8k plus it will smooth out anything under it causes a jerk or a pull feeling vs level 2 is more like 4-5k shifting is ideal

Comparing how fast the R1 is to the bmw S1000RR isnt a fair comparison because the S1000RR is flashed/derestricted. The 2020 R1 still has no flash available for it and nobody really knows how much horsepower it will make yet with a derestricted flash

No fuel gauge. That, my son, is because the crossplane motor sucks gas down so fast the display wouldn't be able to count it fast enough.
Super Duke is the best street bike. All the torque and horsepower below 9500 rpm, street rpm). I own a 2018. I wanted a new additional bike. I looked at the Streetfighter V4 but the Super Duke makes more torque and horsepower up to its redline, 10,000 rpm than the Streetfighter. I did not want more of the same. I have owned Ducati’s before, so a bought a new 2019 MV Agusta 800rr Dragster Pirelli Edition. It is similar to a V4 with its 140 horsepower triple, both torque and high rpm. It is 370 dry. The bike has premium everything. No need for anything. So I own a beauty and the beast!

I would hate the gear ratios, But that’s just because it’s a liter bike. In America you can kinda get away with it a little more but in Europe you’d always be in first gear lol
I did the gearing/dyno math on my 765 RS and the R1 ... my god, the R1 doesn't even wake up until 55+ mph. No chance to really use the engine on public roads. Pray you don't get a ticket in 1st gear!
R1 hasnt had a proper update since 2015. I would have waited for the next big revision
