    It’s hard to believe Lexus had so much trouble selling these new for 400K, and now they sell for over a million!
    It’s stood the test of time. Looks gorgeous, won’t break down, oh yeah and has the best sounding engine ever put in a production car!
    Hasn’t been a car like it since and there never will be.
    The Lexus LC 500 is a fantastic sports car though. It’s NA V8 sounds great, obviously not as impressive as the LFA’s V10 but still pretty damn good.

    To set you people straight, here are some facts as to why the LFA has a ludicrous price tag:
    1) Toyota definitely took their time in developing the car. Almost a decade. First 5 years, they designed it with aluminum in mind. But they noticed that aluminum was too heavy, so they scrapped that and started again with carbon fiber. As we all know, carbon fiber is an incredibly expensive material to be used in just about anything, especially on cars.
    2) One of the LFA's main features is the engine, which is a very powerful V10, but it's smaller than a V8 and lighter than a V6. That's because the facilities and equipment used to build the LFA's engines, are the same facilities and equipment Toyota had used to build engines for their Formula 1 cars. That's why they were able to make a very compact but very powerful engine. In short, the LFA incorporates some F1 technology in itself.
    And yet, despite the price, Toyota does not earn a single penny after selling all of their 500 LFAs. Crazy.

    • @hollands694
      @hollands694 6 ปีที่แล้ว +59

      I agree..... This is one of the few cars that I truly believe is worth every penny. These cars have become investments to top it all off. Average asking price today is around 450 to 500k. Its appreciated about 100k in 7 years. You rarely ever see that in exotics unless there is a good reason

      @@SWOgottaGO Yes, the whole engine was manufactured at Toyota at their Motomachi Plant in Aichi. The development was definitely, as stated, a collaboration with Yamaha brought in to jointly develop the engine and gearbox. What few people talk about is the more remarkable achievement by Lexus engineers who developed and all new form of carbon reinforced plastic, designing and making their own weaving loom, eventually used to manufacture the body. Their commitment to excellence on thsi project shows, and it was fantastic to see little nods on design and sculpture from the LFA project find their way into the stunning LC500 cars, which for us mere mortals, are actually attainable, at least on the used market.

    As much as I'd like to cruise the streets with a 1000hp monster STi, you've just got to appreciate and drool over the amount of work, thought and engineering that went into a masterpiece like this. It's literally a work of art. The body lines, the sound it all tells a story...and that story is built for speed. It's just(excuse my language) fuckin' amazing. Everything about the thing reeks of intelligent engineering. Just beautiful.

    • @headless13
      @headless13 9 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +losi8ightyew A thousand horsepower STI, if you could even attain that number could go maybe 5 to 10 thousand miles between engine rebuilds. 1000 is a monsterous number for an EJ.

      @losi8ightyew 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +headless13 Your stuck in 2000 man. You'd be suprised what an EJ is capable of nowadays. 1000 is EASILY obtainable now. Will it be cheap? No. Horsepower never is. Check out (TRP) if you wanna understand more of what an EJ can do. The hardest thing for an EJ is tuning it and making the tune consistent thru cold starts up till running temps. That's where ringland failures, pre dets etc came from. Alas, they're pretty much nonexistent in a knowledgable build and nowadays technology. Once again everything comes down to if it's done right and correctly the first time.

    Its funny to see these comments. Anyone who really doesn't give an inkling about engineering will NEVER understand why this car is special. This is the definition of an engineering exercise. On top of which it hits all the right marks to maintain exclusivity allowing the car to appreciate over time. This is a technological marvel. If anyone actually spends time at the race track trying to tune their car and understand what makes you go faster this car will be a huge point of interest.

I don’t think it’ll be as huge as the F1, but I agree the price still probably has a lot further to climb. In a few years we’ll be talking about when you could get an LFA for “only” 800 grand

Take for example what he says about Alfas - that every real petrol head should, at some time in their life, own one, but then on the other hand they're an absolute nightmare because of horrible reliability and impracticality. When it comes to cars, Clarkson is 99.9% emotion and how the car makes him feel.

    The LFA is a supercar and as such it needs to be exclusive (Check), be recognizable both visually and audibly (Check), have high quality (Check) and have good performance (Check) in that order. These cars aren't built to race, they are a status symbol and it isn't unusual for owners of this kind of car to put them on display.

    Thank you Mr Toyoda for finally putting us on the map and giving us a Supercar to be proud of! You know we were in a dry spell there for a while. Once the Supra ceased production we were left with two cars that failed to live up to their name and heritage - The 7th generation Celica and the 3rd generation MR2 just didn't even deserve the names they were blessed with. So with that said, all of Toyota's great cars ended in the last century. Then a new Mr Toyoda took the reins and insisted on the LFA being no compromise perfection. He and his team truly succeeded beyond our dreams and expectations!
    Next he proclaimed he wanted a replacement to the classic Corollas of the AE86 years. And once again he and his team, aided by Subaru who is partially owned by Toyota, knocked the ball out of the park with their Toyota GT86 (Scion FRS/Subaru BRZ). Now I know there is currently no turbo version but don't be fooled. I'm wiling to put money that one or all of the triplets will get a turbo version.
    Now then sir I say it's time to bring all the way home. We want a new turbo AWD Celica GT4 and mid-engined RWD Turbo MR2. We deserve it.
    This needs to be said too- Can we just make Jay Leno the main presenter of the American Top Gear? Keep Tanner Foust on as the USA Stig and fire those other two annoying losers who consistently ruin that show. With Jay at the head and Tanner to back him up we just might have a show worthy of the name Top Gear that would perhaps be as good as the original UK version.

    • @pchabz
      @pchabz 11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Um they don't have 40 years of racing heritage =P he doesn't mention it because it doesn't exist. The original prince skylines were made by a company that fell apart and sold themselves to Datsun. Later Niss/Datsun eventually got to the r32 (Of course the last generation Ferrari crew working for them at this time probly had nothing to do with this =P ) which in japanTC racing was legendary but elsewhere its unique way of building a car landed it in a class that wasn't exactly fair (like racing a stock prius Vs a Ferrari.) AusTC after two years placed it in a class with cars of comparable power and weight. Once it was placed with cars that had a comparable specs it never placed higher then 4th. After the R33 and R34 never did well in their classes due to becoming extremely overweight with their new AWD system. All that aside............. The modern day GTR is indeed a great piece of engineering however the question still remains who the hell built it? Originally they said American Nissan designers designed the 3/4 of the body work, and their euro designers did the roofline while they made the premier new chassis based on the old 2001 skyline model. Later it was revealed that Lotus was employed and designed the chassis because the Japanese couldn't get the results or the weight they wanted............. In result Nissan tweaks out and twin turbo's a v6 and that's about as far as their racing heritage goes (and that's all you get from them when you buy a modern GTR =P.)

      A lot of people would disagree with you. It doesn't matter who built what part or where, the fact of the matter is they raced under Datsan/Nissan, and does anybody really make thier own cars anymore?

      Its not deniable that they have done good things. However the companies that did them no longer exist, leaving no heritage within there new cars. However the LFA is groundbreaking for there country because the technology within it is now patented and other companies are paying to use it. Many people shrug this off but many people forget that All the money porsche makes, over 40% comes from patented technology.

    Hey Jay I have an extremely rare Fiat 500c. Its the Gucci edition convertible. I haven't seen another one in LA. Can I come to your garage? PLEASE! I have a beautiful wife who I bought it for, I'll bring her too! BTW people if you want to meet Jay come to Hermosa Beach Comedy and Magic every other Sunday. He drives a different car every week and stays around after to talk to his fans. One of Americas greatest men! Its just down the street from my house on Pier so I have gone 3 times already.
    Again Jay, thank you for living all of our dreams! And then sharing them with us all ;)

    The Lexus LFA has the ultimate V10 engine which was ever built. Cause the angle is just perfect for a V10 engine. 72 degrees. Every other on has an angle from 90 degrees. Which is perfect for an V8 engine. It´s just the best balanced car which Toyota ever made. It´s sounding like an animal.

      RobloxFilmProducful/RBX Videos & Car Vids CAR magazine: "Still, the LFA stands out as one of the all-time greats to emerge from Japan. CAR picked it over the 691bhp Lamborghini Aventador when we tested the cars back-to-back in 2011, thanks to its supreme driver engagement and pure driving experience"
      EVO: "Closer in concept to the F12 is the Lexus LFA. It’s massively outgunned by the F12 and more expensive, too, but we think it’s more than the sum of its beautiful carbon and titanium parts, and not even the F12′s V12 feels as special as that searing 552bhp 4.8-litre V10. Its £340,000 and its gearbox is simply outclassed by the F12′s…and yet we wouldn’t like to say which is the more involving drivers’ car without trying them back to back. The LFA is really that good."
