For the waffle cones, you have to move pretty quick because they start to firm up fast. Once you've gotten the waffle cone into the cone shape, stand it up in a tube, or cut holes in a cardboard box and set then into to cool completely. Definitely cook til completely golden, do not wet the edges, and place a mini marshmallow in the bottom of the cone to help keep ice cream from dripping out of the bottom. I made thousands of waffle cones at an ice cream shop for almost ten years
Best parenting tip I ever got: baby powder for taking sand off. Dust it on feet (or whatever), brush it and the sand off. I DESPISE sand and this made taking a kid to the beach bearable.
Happy Birthday! Would love to see a video where you re-do failed hacks or recipes but using tips and tricks/advice from the comments to try and make them work!
1:04 I’ve been way too engrossed in true crime lately. I had this playing in the background and heard Rachel say “someone on TikTok had the brilliant idea of using this to chop up children”… ‘s food. Thanks Rachel, for the much needed respite from TC content. 😂
Chris had better luck with the cone because it wasn't as crispy for his effort.....but he also doubled it up before rolling it, which is definitely not correct. Rachel was on the right track, but she was just using a less flexible waffle.
The gel food coloring (I've commented this at least three times now) are best stored in an egg carton. But not a PLASTIC egg carton. Get a regular paper/cardboardy one, which has some flex to it so you can jam the little jars down into each egg cup which helps to hold them upright. The absorbency of the carton also helps to soak up any leaking that you may have gotten just from using the gels and getting some on the outside of the jars.
I love watching Rachel try new recipes and try new gadgets. It's part of my Saturday routine. I like how excited she gets for trying something new, it just makes me smile.
My parents used to have a sandwich maker with different plates for waffles over 30 years ago already 😂 And my grandma had a curved knife (but with one blade) ever since I can remember. One blade will definitely work better and no bowl is needed, a flat surface works just fine. It's always fascinating to me how products that already existed for decades are suddenly treated like a new invention because it pops up on TT 🙈
For the chopping tool I recommend an Ulu. It's just a single blade. It's based on a traditional Inuit/native tool. My mum picked one up while on holiday in Canada then ended up buying loads for her friends because it's much easier for older people to use, with arthritis and such
Ulus have been used forever by Inuit/Innu, at least in the Canadian North, and all the ones I saw(in the western Arctic) had a central handle and single blade. I have a small one, and use it on a flat board, and it's even great for carrots/celery to chop and easier on the wrist. Shout out to the innovation of indigenous nations, buy from them if at all possible, you can find lots of First Nations artisans online to buy from
Cutting grapes and cherry tomatoes restaurant hack here: sandwich the grapes/tomatoes between plastic food delivery lids - the lip of the lids keeps them contained and from rolling away - and slice between the sandwiched lids. Your grapes/tomatoes will be perfectly cut in half. Easy way to batch slice cherry tomatoes.
Happy Birthday 🎂 Rachel. I hope you have nothing but love, laughter and blessings not only on your birthday, but everyday. Thank you for sharing your life with us.
Happy birthday!! Also about the vent, they are made in multiple sizes. Measure the opening of the actual vent (not the size of the vent cover). Hubby's office has horrible airflow and a large computer setup, so we got him one a couple of years ago. It really does help. If you add the size to your search you should be able to find one that fits.
I would love one of these in my bedroom, but the downside is my vent is in my vaulted ceiling and having a power cord run down the wall is just not feasible since my vent is above my big window.
In the Netherlands we use the waffle cone maker also for 'stroopwafels' and 'nieuwjaarsrolletjes'. For rolling you need to be really fast. Burning fingers is part of it 😉
Put each food color in a cupcake paper with a rubber band halfway down to hold it on. You want the paper to slightly "blossom". Leave the paper on till it gets messy then change it out. I've heard some people use a paper egg carton, but it looks like you already have a divided box. For sand, baby powder and corn starch are the same thing, just fragranced for babies.
Corn starch in a sock with a knot works to take sand off toddlers too. Heard that the swiffer dusters work too but have not tried it. I judt store a starch sock in a ziplock bag in the diaper bag
for the chopper, instead of two handles on each side, a singular handle, like a wooden handle shaped like an arch or a straight line connected at both ends would be helpful and easy to maneuver. And for the sand remover, its usually baby powder in a cloth.
Thank you for testing the vent booster!! I’ve been looking at these as my son’s room and our guest room stay warmer than the rest of the house during the summer. He’s currently using a window unit but maybe these would work and save us on electricity. Definitely getting one to try.
I’m a nail tech. My gel paints that are tightly CLOSED and always remain UPRIGHT, are always magically leaking out. I’ve had to start just making a little hole in the center of the little foil covers instead of peeling them completely off. This has seemed to fix the issue totally. And I am so grateful for it. It gets so frustrating, and food coloring would be even worse for staining😭 I bet the sand+ sand remover is great for exfoliation 🤣 goodbye self tanner
I don’t understand the bowl shaped cutting board for the herbs. It would be easier on a flat surface than it is in a bowl like that. I just roll the grapes or cherry tomatoes onto the counter, put a cutting board on top to hold them still, and then slice the grapes or tomatoes with a sharp knife into halves between the two hard flat surfaces. Viola! You can do, like, 20 at a time in seconds.
I saw those air vents on Amazon and I have seen where you can order different sizes. I am glad you tested that. I was debating getting one of those. Especially in the heat wave that we have had.
We used to have a box fan in front of the vents in our 2 upstairs bedrooms, and these replaced the box fans! They're quiet and push A LOT of air. Also you can change the speeds/options which is great
SAND solution....we would bring a resealable bag, partially filled with baby powder and a dry wash cloth. Like your sponge, you just take the powdered washcloth and sweep off the sand. Works great!
Don't overthink it,. Just place a dishcloth under that choppy thing or even chopping boards, anything that slides around. My dad who is a cook always does this :)
As someone who worked at an ice cream place for many years and made thousands of waffle cones, there’s a much easier contraption for forming the waffle cones haha. It’s called something like “waffle cone rolling and forming tool” - it’s like a curved metal thing that you slide and roll the cooked waffle through and then it holds the shape until it cools. As for the bowls, you just have to work really quickly because it sets fast as it cools haha.
@@marciwhitman3513 I guess so, it's a very similar consistency. If I didn't have any talc on me but had cornstarch, I'd def give it a try! (a quick google says yes!) You just sprinkle it on and then brush it off.
I cut my herbs with a knife on a cutting board and it seems to work much better than the contraption you're using. Same thing with the garlic. Just use a knife, crushing it first (again, with the knife). It'll go way faster.
I've had one of those chopping tools for ages (Sweden). Works great! Never seen it used in a bowl, though. Put the herbs (I only use it for herbs and garlic) on a chopping board. Grip both edges of the tool and work fast (faster than you do here), and move the tool around a bit. Super! Just rinse it off with hot water after.
Next product to try to the vents!!! First- some vents have a little switch part so you can close / partially close them, we always do this for the rooms that tend to be more chilly than needed to help push the cold air to the upstairs vents. But they also have these magnetic vent covers you can use for the same purpose! And since it blocks the cold air from going out those vents, more will go upstairs. Also just putting a small fan near the vents can accomplish something similar to the product you found :) I hope you see this comment!
All you need is baby powder(cornstarch formula) it takes sand off really well and leaves a nice scent. I used lavender. I used it with my four children when I lived in Florida!
I have the vent fan! I live in a condo and the air doesn’t really cool my 2nd floor room very much. This was a lifesaver along with my circulating standing fan. Not only can I put it on max speed in the summer and get it close to the AC temp, but the heating in the winter rises so much better with it! Definitely an investment to get for multiple rooms but if you have just one room that stays warmer it is a life saver, especially if you are an ice cube like me 😂
Damp ppr towel under cutting board. My husband sits about 4 feet away from me (playing PS) when I watch you on my tab. You're by FAR his fav to overhear. 2nd place is Jen Luv cause she's an "ingredient geek". So HUGE HAPPY HAPPIEST from us both
Happy Birthday🎂!!!!! I love your videos ,your honesty with your mental struggle, your amazing husband and family and just your purity and beautiful smile!! Even on my worse day when I don't want to get out of bed I know I can watch you and get to laugh and feel like it's not that bad! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!😘❤💌💝
Rachel, I LOVE your channel!!! I subscribe to both and while I like your other channel, this is where I discovered you, and I love this channel!!! I have been watching your videos every Saturday since....well before the pandemic, but I'm not really sure when! I can't believe you don't have millions of subscribers! I've never understood that, but I tell people about your channel because I love it!!! Also, your kitchen (at least the part on camera) looks remarkably similar to my sister's. Between that and the fact that your whole family is so sweet and seems so fun, I feel like I'm visiting family when I watch your channel!! You guys are just so family oriented and I love it!!! 🤗🤗🤗
For my gel food colouring, when I open the bottle, I don't take the whole seal off of it. I usually just poke a hole in the seal so that there is less chance of it spilling. Works well for me.
hi rach, i worked at several ice cream shops where we made waffle cones. you have to go much faster (you will singe your fingers). it also helps if you have somewhere to put them so they’re suspended and can harden retaining the shape.
Just saw a sand removal hack using the Swiffer duster stick. Might be worth a try! Also, I just got one of those vent fans a couple weeks ago, and it's been amazing! I also installed a smart thermostat, and that's help cool my upstairs rooms overnight when my area usage costs are lower. We are also considering installing an attic fan to help release the trapped heat from the upstairs.
Those booster fans are great! Canadian Tire sells a more basic one (no separate programming) that would probably fit your vents. They’re about $50 each.
For the gel food coloring, have you tried placing a piece of plastic wrap under the lid before closing it? Like cut a small square piece of plastic wrap, put it on top of the bottle with the excess plastic part to the outside, and then close the lid for a better seal. Also, happy birthday 🎂
The whole sand at the beach thing, if it's hot outside something I've found that works very well & it depends on your kids & their comfort level, the impromptu shower. I fill a couple of gallon jugs full of water the day before or in the morning & put them in the car along with towels that are just for after the beach, that's another issue with getting sand off of kids towels full of sand. The sun warms the water to shower heat so once the kiddos get brushed off as best as possible they can get a nice rinse under warm water & dried off with a nice clean towel that's been warmed in the car as well.
I have found that baby powder is the best way to remove sand. It is also good for sunburns if you apply it immediately after getting out of the sun. I always take a small travel bottle with me to the beach!
We had a waffle cone maker in my family for decades! It certainly has a learning curve to it but then the waffles are so much better than the store bought ones. My dad still uses it every year for Christmas, puts a little cinnamon in the recipe and we just munch on it ^^
The heat/cooling vent thing is neat but I would have the same issue because the vents are more narrow. If you keep your fan on your furnace “on” it will circulate the air instead of getting hot spots. I don’t have AC but I keep the fan on circulation to keep the air flow moving even in the summer.
We use a soft bristle brush, (kind of like a dust pan brush but a little softer) to get all the sand off. We just keep it in the car and use it before we hope in.
I didn’t know they had this vent. I live in Vegas and that would have saved me money. this summer since the a/c is not knew where I rent my townhome. Thanks, for showing that!
I LOVE my rocking blade!!! I have a different brand. I use a flat board as I feel it’s easier. Highly recommend the rocking blade especially for herbs!!!
Oh lady, so cool. My birthday is today (Aug 3rd) gotta love my favorite fellow Canadian youtuber when you put a video out on the same day as my birthday to make it that much better!
they make grape cutters specifically. they are available on amazon. it quarters them. I have used the same one since my oldest was 6 months old-- so almost 6.5 years now ☺️
My birthday too in a few days!! (Not sure when you filmed this) love your videos ❤❤❤also garlic seesaw crusher is great.. sorry writing as I’m watching 🙈
We have one of the air vents. There are different sizes. We measured ours before we ordered. It works really well! The noise is not very notice at all. A white noise.
someone already mentioned using a damp tea towel to hold the bowl while you chop but a wet paper towel should work too. it's what i use under my cutting board and after i'm doing i use it to wipe things up since it's already wet.
Try keeping food coloring Pods in an old spice rack or a crystal holder for the wall. Also that thing you were trying to cut grapes with, use one of those cup things that w3nt viral a bit ago. It only cost a few bucks and it's great for chopping smaller fruit.
I bought the NodPod based on your recommendation. I put it on and am out like a light. I love it and plan to buy another one and one of their weighted mini blankets.
Hi Rachel, we love watching your videos. You and Chris are just great. We saw another TH-camr show that their Ninja ice cream maker was scraping the inside of the container possibly leaving small plastic in the ice cream. Please have Chris take a look. Love yall and keep making great videos!!
My mom always used a toothpick (the flat kind) for gel food color when I was growing up and I've done the same as an adult and mine don't really get dirty on the outside. I've never even wiped the outsides of my little gel food coloring pots. You may need to use additional toothpicks if you want a more saturated color but they seem to hold a sufficient amount for most colors and you can double up and use 2 or 3 at a time if you know you need more coloring or if your frosting is thicker and you're worried they might break as you 'stir' into the frosting to get the color off the toothpicks and into the frosting. Then stir fully with a spoon, knife, or hand mixer. Works great and keep your pots from getting extra gel on the outsides. And then just store the gel color pots in a plastic storage container with a lid.
I made thousands of waffle cones at an ice cream shop for almost ten years
This. I work that way as well, nonetheless just in my family , not in a Shop. 😅
It's the tanned arm vs white hand post the sand experiment for me! Too funny especially knowing how particular you are about your tans
Best parenting tip I ever got: baby powder for taking sand off. Dust it on feet (or whatever), brush it and the sand off. I DESPISE sand and this made taking a kid to the beach bearable.
As someone who lives in FL and spends a ton of time at the beach. Baby powder is the best way to get sand off.
I live in Vermont so we go to the beach maybe once a year😢 but I always bring baby powder!!
You just made my whole day!
Baby powder is now all cornstarch since talc was linked to ovarian cancer or some sort of cancer
Put a damp tea towel under chopping boards to stop them moving around. It’s what Jamie Oliver recommends on his shows about quick meals.
Im a chef. Learned that first day in school. Doesn't need to be a tea towel. A wet cloth is often enough 😊
..... and don’t lift the mezzaluna off the chopping board it’s just meant to be rocked
I came here to say that
Was just about to say this…it’s a restaurant hack…
Any "wet" cloth will do it just needs to be wet
Happy Birthday! Would love to see a video where you re-do failed hacks or recipes but using tips and tricks/advice from the comments to try and make them work!

Yea like everyone churning butter like it’s the modern thing to do 😅
Those rocker knives (single blades) are amazing. Love mine❤
The curved knifes, single blade. Is called ULU. It's an Alaskan native knife mostly used for cutting sea life for food.
For the chopping tool I recommend an Ulu. It's just a single blade. It's based on a traditional Inuit/native tool. My mum picked one up while on holiday in Canada then ended up buying loads for her friends because it's much easier for older people to use, with arthritis and such

We use one too. Amazingly fast and easy. Love our Ulu!

I thought it was just me who heard that 😂

I’ve been watching lots of Halloween videos lately and that made me laugh because that’s how I heard it too. For a second I was like what? LoL
Same😂
Heard it exactly the same. Came to see if anyone else heard it like that too 😂
In the Netherlands we use the waffle cone maker also for 'stroopwafels' and 'nieuwjaarsrolletjes'. For rolling you need to be really fast. Burning fingers is part of it 😉
Mmmmmm stroopwafels 💖

I’ve had the vent thing in my boys’ room for 2 years now. It definitely helps! 😊
The trick for tidy gel color is to get the ones that come in a dropper bottle. The tubs are impossible and always leak
Thank you!
Corn starch in a sock with a knot works to take sand off toddlers too. Heard that the swiffer dusters work too but have not tried it. I judt store a starch sock in a ziplock bag in the diaper bag

I didn’t know they had this vent. I live in Vegas and that would have saved me money. this summer since the a/c is not knew where I rent my townhome. Thanks, for showing that!
Happy Bday!!! Love watching you.
👏👏👏👏 good job on the rolled ice cream !
I LOVE my rocking blade!!! I have a different brand. I use a flat board as I feel it’s easier. Highly recommend the rocking blade especially for herbs!!!
19:27 there is a sweet blue ice cream in Michigan. Sometimes its rainbow. But its called superman ice cream. I think you’d like it Rachel
For your food coloring jars. With the lid off place a piece of plastic wrap over the opening so it hangs the sides the put the lid back on
I have a “fishing box” that’s a cake box kit… idk what it’s called but I love it!! It has a place for piping tips and the gel food coloring!!
Oh lady, so cool. My birthday is today (Aug 3rd) gotta love my favorite fellow Canadian youtuber when you put a video out on the same day as my birthday to make it that much better!
Happy Birthday may you have a great year! May it be filled with fun, joy, and laughter.
Happy birthday Rachel ❤🎉🎊🎂🩷💕
Happy early Birthday, Rachel!
Happy Early Birthday 🎂 Rachel 🎉🎉🎉 Wishing You All The Happiness Your 💜 Desires !!! - Cheers 🥂 From A Fellow 🇨🇦
Swifter dusters are great for sand removal!
you should invent your pancake mix variety machine thing and call it Batter Up!
It already kinda exists
they make grape cutters specifically. they are available on amazon. it quarters them. I have used the same one since my oldest was 6 months old-- so almost 6.5 years now ☺️
I'm with Chris. I hate garlic crushers. It's easier to just smack the garlic with the side of the knife , then start chopping.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! 🍾
Baby powder for sand is working amazing for me and we love close to a really sticky beach
Happy Birthday!!!
I appreciate the subtitles.
I bought the NodPod based on your recommendation. I put it on and am out like a light. I love it and plan to buy another one and one of their weighted mini blankets.
Open TH-cam just now and your video is the first thing I see. Yessss please I love your videos, I’m always watching 🥰🥰🥰
I just saw a hack for sandy feet and it was a swifter duster. Haven’t tried it yet, but looked like it works!
Must be the heat effecting my brain but I heard "it is great for chopping up CHILDREN 's food." For the briefest of moments I was very concerned
For the sand at the beach I use talc free baby power and it works awesome
For herbs i use scissor to cut herbs in a glass. Very good !
Hi Rachel, we love watching your videos. You and Chris are just great. We saw another TH-camr show that their Ninja ice cream maker was scraping the inside of the container possibly leaving small plastic in the ice cream. Please have Chris take a look. Love yall and keep making great videos!!
The vents work great year round.
