    It says to mix on medium for 2 mins to add air to the mixture. Cutting the time will make the cake less airy and more flat.

      I don't mind her not following directions, realistically I would've tweaked it myself too. I wanted to throw strawberries over the pudding and bananas in between the layers of the cake while I was watching. There's two types in the world 😅 those of us who just want to see "what if" and those of us who need a guarantee.

      @@brandi524 I agree with that normally, but when she doesn’t follow directions, and it doesn’t work… how can we know if we should try the recipe? It just isn’t great when she is wrong so often, and we can’t tell if it is bc of the recipe or because of the changes.

    We did a test blending cake mix. Does it need the full 2 mins? Yes. It adds air and volume, and you'll get fluffier cake!!😊

    • @RachhLovesLife
      @RachhLovesLife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +13

      But with the flour that just seems like a recipe for a rock hard cake? I don't understand the science behind this :P

    • @leahposer
      @leahposer 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +43

      @RachhLovesLife as far as I know, boxed cakes are made with flour that has a lower protein, so unlike a cake from scratch, you don't have to worry about creating too much gluten by "over mixing." Another thing is that it aerates the eggs, the volume increases, and the cake is fluffier.
      Or maybe someone will correct me🤗

    • @MilenaPeix
      @MilenaPeix 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      I thought the same thing and never mixed enough. Next time do the full time, you’ll se how it puffs up! Cake flour with the fat added is actually hard to overmix in 2-3 mins (see recent claire video!)

    • @MelpomenaBovary
      @MelpomenaBovary 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@RachhLovesLifeyou were right about mixing the wet ingredients first. My mom always do cakes like that and they are amazing. That is how you you get the fluff- by incorporating air in eggs and butter because you can mix them longer and you don’t over mix the flour.

    • @victoriakieschnick3467
      @victoriakieschnick3467 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +31

      @@RachhLovesLife I'm a second generation professional cake gal, overworking cakes takes longer than 2 min because the batter is very different from something like a bread dough. In general, the recommended time to beat cake batter is 3-5 min on medium speed, so the mix was actually being conservative with their 2 min recommendation.
      You can overwork cake mix, it's just going to take a lot longer than it would with other baked goods. The one time I overworked a cake batter it sat in my KitchenAid for 20 min because I had a newborn at the time and forgot I was baking. 😅 Mixing well for 2-5 min incorporates air into the batter and gives you a light fluffy sponge. It's the same idea as whipping up egg whites and folding them in, just fewer steps, less temperamental, and because it is done with all of the ingredients not as fluffy as something like an angel food cake.

    Cake mixes are formulated so that anyone can do it and it’s almost impossible to over mix. I know it goes against all the rules of making homemade cakes but these cake mixes aren’t for advanced bakers. Personally I’ve made the Dolly Parton cake mixes and they actually are pretty good. They don’t taste like a cake from a mix that’s for sure. If you wanted to make the mix without adding pudding then the recipe is normally on the side of the box instead of the back. Depends on which mix.

    I have the knife scissors and they are handy for *some* foods. I find I forget i have the tool and reach for scissors or a knife instead 🤷🏻‍♀️

    I was thinking to myself, 'The Southern ladies are coming for Rachh" lol. Yeah. Banana puddin' it's a MUST for the nilla wafers. That's why it's only 12 bananers lol. You should remake it the correct way. I'm telling you, it's soooo good! Love your channel and I actually love that you don't necessarily follow directions hahahhaa. It's kinda your thing.

    What happened to the Ninja Creami?? The same 24 hrs you had to wait for the bowl to freeze are the hours you have to wait for the custard to freeze. Looks like serving size is the same. From what I can see. I don’t have either appliance.

    Not new here but commenting for the first time. Absolutely love your videos and I think I actually subscribed to this channel first (but I’m not sure, it was a long time ago). Anyways, the individual ice-cream thing made me think of something I got last year and my kids (2 and 6) absolutely love it. It’s the pan-n-ice ice-cream maker. They also sell kits. It’s amazing! But definitely get the original (pink and blue, UK company). You can make any flavour. And you also don’t necessarily need the mix, you can use condensed milk and cream and then add your own (the kids love strawberries or Oreos). I first saw the guys of Sorted food review it. It takes a bit of getting used to, but it’s also so entertaining, not just for kids

    Banana medicine is amoxycillin, as a child I drank a full bottle of the stuff straight out of the fridge I liked it so much. Now I can't stomach banana milkshake because of the artificial flavouring...
