- Jiachen Tao must face down his second Hall of Fame Pro and his second Colorless Eldrazi deck. If he's going to win it all, he'll need some more Eldrazi Magic against Luis Scott-Vargas.
I love how it takes less than 90 seconds to show why Eye of Ugin got banned.

Pretty sure this is 3 years out of date, but at 44:58 did JC Tao pay for Obligator's ability with a Steam Vents and an Eye tapping for black? If so, that's an illegal move as he doesn't have the colorless Mana for the Obligator cost. He would've had to use the Cavern instead but apparently did that for the red mana instead.
They talk about that at the start of the next match. Head judge issued a warning for that since they couldn't go back and redo that.

I think they learned their lesson. Also, the power creep has been pretty big. I don't think we're in for an Eldrazi Summer
So this deck always mulls to a 2 mana land on the play? Seems like more of death sentence with less resources with dismember in the deck
I love these Eldrazil decks.
At 45:03 when JC Tao targets the Matter Reshapher with the Obligator's EtB effect, then pays B (off Urborg) and U or R (off Steam Vents), isn't the mana payment insufficient? The ability costs 1C - he tapped his Cavern of Souls, which produces colorless mana, to pay for the Obligator itself. LSV wasn't strictly dead there.
Im really new in Magic, could somebody explain me step by step what Tao did in 32.20 ?
This is an old comment, so forgive me if you no longer care, but Jiachen 6 lands (including the Eye of Ugin for black mana), sacrificed a Scion, then played a 2nd Eye of Ugin from hand, and sacrificed the tapped Eye of Ugin due to the legend rule. With has 7 mana that he made, Jiachen activated the untapped Eye of Ugin for it's ability. They also explain that immediately during the match.

it's weird every time the camera catches a shot of LSV when he's not doing anything he has this really kinda dumb expression on his face, but then as soon as someone addresses him or it's time to play or he looks towards the camera it snaps back into his normal expression, I'm going to just assume he's tired from all this play.
+hornylink I think when he isn't being addressed the LSV bot enters into rest mode, when someone talks to him the MTG player program starts up again :-)

+The Cynical ME Prior to this pro tour Modern had been very diverse after the ban of splinter twin.
Here's to hoping people either find a way to beat the deck because I think it would be a shame to ban even more cards. Makes me wish Modern had a restricted list so that cards like Eye of Ugin can be dealt with without completely removing it from the format as a one of wouldn't be game breaking like 4 in a deck can be.
+AnsticePalo one of the advanteges of running new strategies is that people don't have adequate hate in their sideboard for it, yet. there's nothing that screams "OP" to me about these decks. they're strong, but not unfair. the meta will acclimate to this pretty quickly.
how does lab play thought knot seer at 22:19 without a source of colorless or wastes?

Thought-Knot Seer Costs 3 Mana plus 1 Colorless ( (3)C ).
He has 1 Eldrazi Temple, and 1 Eye of Ugin on the field.
Eye of Ugin states "Colorless Eldrazi spells you cast cost (2) less to cast. This effectively changes Thought-Knot Seer to cost (1)C.
The Eldrazi Temple states "Tap: Add (2) to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast colorless Eldrazi Spells or activate abilities of colorless Eldrazi." This pays the 1 Colorless requirement, plus the 1 any color.

Yes Jason is right. The obligator needed colorless for the activation which he did not have. Pretty crazy they missed that. Pretty dirty
I prefer legacy or vintage, I consider them more interesting and much more fun. Although modern and standard are cool as well...
at 2:50 why didn't lsv just wait until JC attacked with the mimics and the reality smasher to play his dismember? That way he would have been able to kill all 3.
The mimicking trigger already happened, therefore the mimics would not also get -5/-5
