This is really a dream PT Top 8. So much star power, 8 different decks, format that's anything but stale and not wracked by bannings...we didn't know how good we had it.
Yeah, agreed. But like even Finkel mentioned, Bant was the worst matchup for his deck, just all the permission completely shuts it down. But all the fans were praying fir that deck to win cause it’s fucking sweet.
So I went back to watch this after Marshall Sutcliffe mentioned the speed of these players, but I didn't expect turn 3 to be over in the time it takes me to Scry
@@Euclides287 too many products being made each year, added focus on commander and direct-to-modern sets, etc. WOTC explicitly stated that their Play Design team at R&D had to adjust. 47:57 "So he slogged his way through a Silumgar's Scorn, and all it cost him was a Hissing Quagmire". I just want to use that sentence in a conversation.
Great to have Gaby Spartz on commentary! It's good to hear from someone new once in a while. However, I do miss LSV's commentary. On the other hand, it's great to see him on the pro-tour. I'm confused. Why you do this Wizards? LOL!
He commentates right after he gets eliminated! If you look at the semi finals games for this pro tour, hes in the commentating booth for the rest of the tournament. Such an awesome guy!
+vonBelfry Yeah, she was impressive. Very good knowledge of the format and the game in general. She never said anything stupid but she never left dead air, which can't be said for all the commentators!
52:00 why does shota get zombies? If lsv sacs his catacomb sifters in response to languish, the zombie tokens appear before languish resolves and then just get swept away by languish.
+evoluti0n09 if lsv sac'd in response to languish and shota got the zombies, then shota can sac a zombie to grow kalitas so that it survives languish which would be much worse than shota having two zombie tokens.
+devilboy561 that could have happened but then he would not have been able to kill the nantucko husk with the ultimate price. Gotta love having 6+ people watching plus the two players and not see the major play mistake that cost LSV that game. Correction: If you rewatch the play a few times, you will notice that LSV does notice that Kalitas would survive. He knew he could deal with the zombies better then the 5/6 kalitas
ZaMazukiShimigami im not sure i quite get what ur saying. But yea thats true, if he grew his kalitas, he cant ultimate price, but then you have a 5/6 kalitas vs a nantuko husk with nothing else on the board. Im quite confident that's a very bad situation to be in, considering kalitas is a lifelinker that blanks zuloport cutthroat's death triggers as well. Again, the line lsv chose is right since kalitas is a problem for his deck and what hes trying to do.
+evoluti0n09 LSV shoulda won that game because We wouldn't have taken the 4 dmg from the zombies or had to chump it and would have had 5 creatures even win silumgar.
SinisterXPikachu but then shota would have just ultimate price after he untaps? also kalitas has lifelink and would have hit for 5?, so shota would be gainin life putting him farther away from losing. Again, the whole point of that languish is to keep the creature count low on board so shota is well aware of westvale abbey n his gameplan was to make sure lsv cant transform it.
in game three shouldn't Shota Yasooka not get the zombies since they would have come in off of LSV sacing the sifters to husk and thus be there before the languish resolves? or did I LSV not sac the sifters?
Game 4, Shota probably should have attacked with one of the vents. Either Luis blocks and loses a creature, or he doesn't, going down to one life and disabling him from making more tokens with Westvale Abbey. In Aristocrats, if you have creatures to play and they might save you, you play them, so Shota could have read the signals and seen Luis had no extra creatures in hand to use for Westvale Abbey. Just some thoughts, obviously I'm not as good as these people, and it's easy to notice mistakes after they've already happened.
Seems like he put all the lands from collect company on top and just hoped that finkel would just cut putting the lands in the middle, so that he wouldn't draw them
At the end of the second game, Shota played a Silumgar. Shouldn't LSV have responded to that with his Collected Company? Getting a Husk and sacrificing the targeted creature seems better than losing it to the dragon.
When finkel infinite obliterations it seems bad to name reflector mage, especially with languish, the optimal card to name would likely be sylvan advocate or nissa seeing as they are more difficult for your deck to deal with and the bounce on mage isnt super relevant.
+Jerome OfMarmite LSV is more active in the MTG scene nowadays, but Finkel is without a doubt more famous. There are people who don't even follow MTG at all who know who Johnny Magic is.
shouldn't Shoota not have had any zombies during Game 3 after the languish? LSV could've sac'd the two sifters to the husk, then languish resolves killing the zombies
+Elvish Mystic Naaah, would it really? I mean, sure, It gives you a lot of fuel for Husk and Cutthroat, but it's very expensive, which is very clunky in his deck where he almost always has mana to sink into other things. And imagine finding it with Collected Company. You could put something that would actually enter the battlefield in that spot instead.
Unfortunate that both b/g decks are paired with their worst match up. Both Esper and Company decks are the worst in the pro tour compared to b/g which LSV and Finkel just crushes everyone in swiss, yet they couldn't make it past quarterfinals.

I don't like this as a gathering online player. I mean, why the beep are there no lands? Decks get too big, or is that not the authentic game? I would love to play out the door with real-life decks, but with lands it would be alot more interesting...
