    That first game made no sense. What even happened there? Did the opponent just forget what was in their deck? Pillage the bog into nothing when Uro was available was baffling.

    21:30 If you get toxic deluge with mystical tutor here, you're very likely to get another shinobi hit in. Deluge for x=3, they crew chariot to block shinobi, and then you cut it down.
    You ended up getting a shinobi hit in anyway and shinobi hits proved to be of dubious value (whereas it was nice to have dig), but against a more skilled opponent this may have been the line.

    In that last game, seems like it would've made sense to Dark Ritual to make a construct and do everything else that turn. Tap the swamp for Ritual, spend two on the construct, get the mox, tap it and an island for Phantasmal Image, then use the last floating black to cast the Cut Down. With how slow things ended up playing out, Ritual wouldn't let you play anything ahead of curve anymore, so using it to stabilize faster seems good.

    • @LucianDevine
      @LucianDevine หลายเดือนก่อน

      They might not have played things as slow if he did that, because they likely only played as slow as they did because it looked like he was leaving up Miscalc from that turn on. Taking the shields down just once can change how an opponent plays dramatically.

    • @LucianDevine

      Actually no, the first turn he had access to double blue, he had to use one to Phantasmal Image, no double blue for sphinx. Then it was Baleful Strix into Unearth Image to copy Strix, still leaving only 1 blue available. He was always 1 blue short of being able to cast Sphinx, because he was playing either necessary things or had better plays, like the double Strix to get 2 bodies on board, draw 2 cards, etc.

    At 58:22 does it make more sense to get Inquisition off the Spellseeker so that you can take Forth Eorlingas out of their hand? That does leave the Mentor in play, but it's not clear they had any way to make tokens off of it other than the Forth Eorlingas.

      It was a no-brainer. I'm surprised Luis didn't mention it, but it was one of those things where he had his plan set and didn't take time to think. He's obviously one of the GOATs, but I think his fast play can be a detriment in spots like this.
      His hand can't beat Forth. He literally says it like 30 seconds later. He has to know he loses to that card. Whereas he can in theory beat the mentor.

    I feel like being down on reanimator is not the new mindset it's represented as. After watching all of these drafts, it looks more like your power rankings put reanimator cards so low that you'll only take them on the wheel or if something more tempting isn't there, often just taking a spec pick or sideboard pick instead, and they just don’t wheel as often as you expect...same with discard outlets, hence the difficulty in assembling the various pieces. Reanimator seems like a powerful deck when the streamer leans into it.
    All spoken from a standpoint of almost 100% ignorance of vintage cube drafting, aside from youtube. Just Randy Newman, typing what I see.

    • @S0nyb1ack
      @S0nyb1ack หลายเดือนก่อน

      As someone who does some cubing (no where near what Luis does) I do like drafting reanimator, buuut the all in reanimator decks often go 1- 2 or 2 -1, if I don't get the chance for any sort of tutor - it is sadly a 3 card combo (fatty, discard, reanimation spell). With tutors the deck has an insane ceiling I feel like, so I might spec on it too often.
      Though I understand his logic that he would prefer to use sneak or breach to cheat them into play - I do like having those card in my reanimator decks as backup plans (reanimator allowing me to go faster with the right draw, while sneak allows me to sometimes win when stuff didn't work out early).
      What I personally really like about reanimator in cube is how it still offers a pretty wide range of decks: all in reanimator (don't try this without tutors - lim dul's vault helpsa ton by being one more tutor you can pick up late in drafts); RB aggro or mid with a reanimator package; UB or UBr control with an reanimator package (the aggro/control deck with a combo plan B can often do very good even without tutors, since their plan A doesn't require them).
      Honestly in this iteration RB aggro with reanimator has become my most common flavour of reanimator drafted... Inti, the RB 3/2 that makes a blood token, seasoned pyro, of course fable of the mirrorbreaker can al help pressuring your opponent while being a combo piece themself thanks to discarding. Of course you want the discarding removal spells (bone shards and the 2 mana one - sorry blanking on card names apparently) they are great to clear the way for your small beaters and again are also combo pieces.
      And stuff like reanimate and anmimate dead are still completely fine reanimating a powerful beater like inti to continue the agression, so they also kind of work in the aggro plan.
      The only cards that do NOT add to the aggro plan are the fatties and those can be awkward, but if they are the good ones like atraxa and archon the upside of reanimating them outweights the downside of sometimes being a dead card (in my opinion).
      And then you round out the deck with your standard red aggro cards - laelia, bombadiers, gut, carnage interpretor, the 4 mana haster that draws an extra card each turn; maybe a dragon etc.

      @sanguine6939 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I reckon LSV just doesn't particularly like playing reanimator (compared to other types of decks anyway, plus his mentioned reasons contribute). If so I understand as I don't find it very interesting either.

    Luis is one of the best Mtg players of all time. In the most competitive vintage cube server. Shouldn't Luis just steamroll these MTGO cubes?

    • @roarmalf
      @roarmalf หลายเดือนก่อน

      First, most of the guys on this server queue too, so it's not like the competition is that bad.
      Second, in mtg variance such that a 70% win rate is insane, so nobody is going to just win all time even if they're better.
      Third, the online queues have lower stakes, so LSV is more likely to force something fun like storm instead of trying to win (you'll hear him say things like "is this we're the pro tour the pick would be X") on mtgo vs. the server queues.
      Fourth, queues are much more unpredictable, and sometimes cards that are 95% to wheel don't, while you end up a bomb pick 13. While this more likely to be beneficial, it can really screw over a deck if you pass something you "know" will wheel that you needed for your deck (something like doomsday) to take a better card. It can also mean the signals you thought you read were just bad play and something wide open in pack one is now totally cut off from both sides because of card evaluations.

      Sometimes boros aggro is open and you get paired against someone who drops a fastbond t1, wheels a few times, and you are dead.
      I do agree that the cube is getting harder. I think a lot more casuals went to arena and also since cube is on more often I think there are less causuals than when it was only once or twice a year.
