    Sorry to say this, but the issue you were having wasn't the screen being bad, but a loose display cable. Have you tried putting the old screen back in and checking if the problem went away?

    My external monitor is not on clone screen mode. Do you know how I can get it to clone screen mode because the main laptop screen is white like yours I cannot see the menu to change the settings from the external screen to put it on clone screen mode if that makes any sense 😀

    screen was dead on my I5 asus. just took the whole screen assembly out and tucked the wifi antennas around the outside edges of the base. Removed the battery and plugged up to tv. Added wireless keyboard and viola, budget upcycle HTPC.

    Thanks for this helpful vid, I just ordered an identical replacement from Screencountry (Asus in Toronto wanted almost $600!). You're right, the screen bezel is nasty but once you get the hang of it it comes off OK. Cheers
    POST-OP EDIT: worked like a charm, PC is back to new status! Thanks

    +Opaque I noticed that your new display has backlight flickering, it may be the cable or the display... I also noticed a white stuck pixel in the new display :|

    • @opaque4433
      @opaque4433  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The flickering is caused by the frame rate of the video camera (24 fps) being different from the refresh rate of the LED, not something you'll experience in reality. You may have noticed the same thing in movies when the camera happens to film a TV set.
      As for the dead pixel, you are correct. I returned the screen and got a replacement at no cost to myself -- Screen Country covered the return shipping cost and immediately sent a new one when I reported the bad pixels without first waiting to receive the original back, pretty good customer service. The new screen is fine.

    I have a question: do all laptops have same cable ? my Asus fz50 screen broke and I'm trying to confirm if I can use the gl551 replacement screen. technically they're both the same laptop, just want to know if they use the same screen(and connector) so I can easily replace it.

    Hello, i Have a ASUS G750JW and my display was gone.
    If i buy a display from ASUS G750JX, its gona work well ?

    • @opaque4433
      @opaque4433  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know. Best to contact ASUS or maybe a 3rd party screen vendor like Screen Country to see if the same part number applies to more than one product.

      Hi George, I have the same question. I recently emailed a computer repair company here in London but they were not really helpful. I've just raised a support ticket with ASUS and sent a couple of enquiries about this to some other computer repair companies, so fingers crossed. May I ask if you managed to find out if it is possible? Many Thanks.

    • @georgespiliopoulos9772
      @georgespiliopoulos9772 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just got a response from an online screen vendor: "Sorry George not on this machine it's too old.
      The IPS screens are thinner and have different fixings so won't fit into the machine." I'll wait for the other vendors to come back to me before I get disappointed.

    Opaque, my screen suddenly has a pink hue to its white colours at all times; boot screen bios and windows. Could my problem be a screen also or the cable? Using the HDMI, the external monitor is the proper hue.

      I'm not a technician, just a do-it-yourselfer. A browser search suggests that the problem could be either screen or cable, pressing Fn+C on an ASUS laptop, or a Windows 10 update:

    Do you know where i could get help with the distortion discoloration and stretching whenever i log on these lines and colors start moving and my screen starts stretching just randomly

    • @opaque4433
      @opaque4433  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a hardware technician so can't be of much help. I would suggest that you try to isolate the cause of the problem by hooking up an external monitor to your laptop. If the external monitor works fine then the problem lies with your laptop screen or video cable. At that point do some research online to see if you can find someone describing the symptoms of bad cables and see if it matches what you're experiencing (the cheaper of the two items to replace). You may be able to find a cable for a reasonable price on EBay and may have to risk making the purchase just to find it's not the cause (cheaper than bringing it for servicing if it works, a $40 gamble that you've lost if it doesn't). If it's not the cable, then all that's left is the screen.
      If the external monitor also shows the same problems, then it's likely that the video card is going (I doubt it's the software drivers if things have been working till now, unless you've done some recent updates).

    If the cable was defective would you have had to break down the entire laptop?

    • @opaque4433
      @opaque4433  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You definitely have to remove the screen, but I don't think you have to open up the base of the laptop (not certain, though). The cable is about 8 inches / 20 cm. long, so can't travel too far. If you look at about timestamp 14:50 in the video, at centre-left, I believe that might be the other end of the cable. If you look at the image of another Asus laptop model at the link belo, the video cable is about the same length as mine and appears to be plugging into a port at the corner, much like what you see at time 14:50 in my video.
