So great Tim. Changed my first HP Laptop screen for my son to go to college. I am disabled and recovering from an awful traumatic brain injury. I didn't have the money to have an old laptop fixed. Your video empowered me to go ahead and try. Thank you. Now I can help others believe in themselves for computer repairs like this. Amazing!
Brilliant fix, Tim! Laptops and phones are becoming more and more difficult to service and repair, however I do not believe it is because the devices are becoming thinner, it is primarily the manufacturers attempts to make it as difficult as possible for users and technicians to do what used to be more straightforward and easy repairs. For example, using tape and glue instead of small screws etc. This has definitely increased the chances of breaking screens, bezels etc during the replacement process. This has been one of the most honest and professional videos I have seen on laptop screen replacement. Thank you for your patience in your explanation and demonstration in this video, your efforts are well recognized. A fellow tech.
I appreciate the comments. As usual for whatever reason the pc repair is evolving. We as techs just need to evolve ourselves and roll with the punches.
It isn't a conspiracy, it's engineers making it cheaper. 100%. They do not care who repairs. Two strips of tape are considerably cheaper than a hinge that extends up the sides of the laptops when you are talking about manufacturing 50,000 of the laptops. Follow the money.
This was extremely helpful. My first time replacing a screen of any kind and this could not have been more helpful. You didn't rush through anything and explained everything clearly and patiently. I know after probably doing this a hundred times it would've been easy to just gloss over everything but I really appreciate that you went into detail. Thank you again.
I'll admit, the first time I encountered a laptop screen replacement like this, I did exactly what you said... used my heat gun and warped the frame a bit. This video is a GREAT example of working smarter, not harder. Keep up the great work!
I've always been decent at computer repair, not much makes me nervous about taking them apart. Until the LCD panel on one of my laptops cracked after me knocking it off the desk. I had no clue what I was doing to replace it, until I found this video. Thanks so much for taking it slow and showing all the detailed steps. Allowed me to safely and successfully replace my screen without issues. Awesome tutorial!
TIM YOU ARE AWESOME!!!! I had dropped my less than 2 yr old HP that I spent $700 on. The sceen shattered. I ordered a replacement screen from amazon. I've never changed a computer screen. I found your video and watched it, step by step. The entire process took less than 45min. Thank you for walking us through this. Great job sir. THANK YOU
Thank you for this video. I have spent the last 2 hours trying to find a video that would help me replace the screen on my laptop. EVERY SINGLE ONE of the videos that I watched basically said that after you remove the bezel, "Just remove these few screws and the screen will pop right out!" I fought for probably an HOUR with my computer screen to try to get it to come out. No luck. I was just about to give up when I came across your video, and realized that I have the EXACT SAME MODEL. Finally, when you mentioned the adhesive on the back of the screen, I realized what the problem was. I guess what I am trying to say is that a small miracle happened when I found your video. I am not very tech-savvy, and this is the first time I have replaced the screen on a laptop, so having the help of someone who ACTUALLY knows what they are doing is wonderful. I am about to order the replacement screen. Also, I am typing this on the laptop that has the broken screen after I connected it to a TV, so I know it is just a screen problem. Thanks!
Great video, I just changed my daughters screen , a drop at University cracked the darn thing. Impressed with the step by step, I wouldn’t have been successful without the help. Keep up the good work
I have changed several screens for laptops over the years, and this is the 1st time I met one like this. Followed your directions (without the tape snaping on the right... lol) and had my screen replaced. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
Thank-you so very much. Old grandma just replaced her grandson's computer screen thanks to you! I've never done one before, but I watched your video several times, ordered the tapes, the screen and now it's done. I used nail tools instead of ordering the one you had, worked great. The touch screen isn't as responsive, but the mouse is working. From the looks of the broken corner, it took a hard tumble. Thanks again Tim!
@@TimsComputerRepair If the touch screen isn't responding exactly, should I pull it apart again & reseat the plug? Other than that the screen is working. Thanks again for your help.
I am a 46 year old woman that has no experience whatsoever in computer repairs! i ordered the screen online and watched a couple of videos but couldn't get it right. After watching your video and pausing at every step I fitted the new screen and it works perfectly! Thankyou very much! 10/10 for explanation and easy to follow instructions!
I was so so afraid of fixing my laptop screen at home- as I am in NO WAY HANDY- AT ALL. I got stuck with another tutorial for an older HP and your advice regarding the adhesive really helped me thanks so much! My computer is like new again
You're an absolute LIFESAVER!!! My screen had a big issue with flickering after getting an accidental knock from the corner of my table. The connection got loose and I couldnt figure out how to get into the screen! Thanks so so much for this video!!!!
I know it's been a couple of years, but I just wanted to thank you for this video. Just replaced a client's screen on one of these, and it saved me a lot of headaches. So thank you. Oh, but one thing. On the particular model that I had, it had one of those horizontal retention bars on the screen connector, so people should check for that after pulling off the tape covering the screen connector. If it's there, just use a small (preferably plastic) pry tool to gently lift it up, then remove the cable.
Thank you so much! You saved me a lot of money. HP wanted $481 to replace a screen for a computer that only cost $569. I got a replacement monitor and a tool kit off Amazon and did it myself in about 15 minutes.
Thanks for this! I have lost count of how many screen's I have replaced over the years.... But this was the first one I have done that was bonded like this. Exactly as you said the tape was at the bottom, came out with ease!
Absolutely perfect! Only video i found that showed me the illusive sticky tape behind everything. One note to whoever cant seem to find it. On my laptop (15z-cw100), the tape was only barely visable from below (a tiny tab) and was white instead of black
Thank you sir for this video. It is the only one I found that talked about the tape behind the screen. I had a Duh moment after separating the screen into multiple layers trying to get it off the cover. Life saver! Also, thank you for the tape recommendation, I was trying to figure out how to re adhere it when the replacement screen came in. Absolutely appreciate your detail! Thank you! This video worked for my hp 15dy1086nr screen.
THANK YOU! If I hadn't found your video I never would have tried this myself. So happy that I did not have to replace my entire laptop, especially when it was less than a year old!
My screen was similar but these instructions worked great. I'm typing this on my repaired computer. This clip was great because you showed some the pitfalls and potential issues. You've got a new fan

Thank you so much for sharing this video. I have had my laptop and the replacement screen sitting next to my desk for the past month, but thanks in huge part to your video I was able to make this fix in an hour's time with no experience whatsoever.
Such a great video. Super detailed. I just used this video to change the screen in the laptop that I use for editing my TH-cam videos. It made the job easy and simple. 5 out of 5 would use his tutorials again. Subbed.
I was about to get out my heat gun when I saw this. I did not need to remove the two screws above the panel. Grabbing the tape was not hard with a pair of forceps and pulling slowly worked great. My computer is now in great shape. Thanks very much.
Just wanted to thank you for making the video, and adding the parts links as well. My daughter's 15 series laptop needed the screen replaced and after watching the video the repair went nice and smooth! Take care :-)
Thank you for posting! That tip on slowly removing the black tape from behind the screen was spot on! I'm sure my instinct would have been to pry the screen out. Thanks!
Thank you for making this video! I might attempt a screen replacement for the first time and I didn't know that the screens were held in with tape similar to those in cell phone batteries. I was actually thinking about using a heat gun on the adhesive but I'm glad to know that I shouldn't. If my client ends up approving the repair then I will reference this video multiple times. While I do not have the same model, I hope that it will be similar enough. A service manual does exist but all it does is say "remove the LCD" instead of explaining HOW to remove the LCD.
Thank you, Tim. I watched this video and still thought I was nuts for trying, but with the video at my side, I was able to replace my touch screen. My laptop appears to be slightly newer and I had adhesive around all four sides of my bezel and the curved piece at the bottom of the screen is attached to my bezel, and not a separate piece. But the principles still applied. The plastic shins are critical! Thanks again.
Thank you Tim, had a tough time with this exact model today, found your video while trying to figure it out. Really appreciate your time and effort. My 2 cents, bring back the bigger heavier screens it's a bugger to work on these lol.
Thanks so much! I have a laptop just like the one you used in the video (besides the touchscreen) and I broke the screen. Thanks to your clear instructions, I was able to repair it without spending $200!
The only video I got on TH-cam which will help me. I have a question. I'm actually searching for how to remove that clutch cover or hinge cover... Will you please show me how to remove that cover without breaking it? I just want to calibrate my hp laptop hinges
Had a really hard time finding the tape as there was nothing sticking out. Once I was able to locate it behind the screen it was easy. Great video thank you so much !
Super helpful! I used this procedure for a HP 14-DQ1055CL Laptop. There were some minor differences but on the whole the instructions were spot on. Differences I noticed were that the bezel was taped at the bottom in different way and that the strips of tape that held the screen in were only accessible at the bottom of the screen. I removed the screws at the upper corners of the screen but don't think I needed to. Thanks!
I got this exact same laptop and broke my screen at the weekend. I followed the video and got the screen off OK, pulling the tapes out very carefully. Ordered a new screen from the number on the back of it. The new screen should be here by next weekend, also ordered a roll of double sided tape. This cost me in total about £70 (i am in the UK) that's about $95. The repair would be about £200 -£250 maybe. Great stuff thanks for the info.
Thanks to your tutorial, I didn't have to experiment with this HP screen replacement! One thing I noticed: Those screws up top does not need to be removed because the screen is secured by the adhesive correct?
Thank you sir! U just save me some money! My local PCgeek repair going to charge me 200 bucks for replacing my laptop screen. I can DIY it myself base on ur instructions
I admit I followed you thru the procedure and as I did not see you put the screws back in , I "forgot" mine . Had to remove the Bezel again to reinstall them . My bad . Thank you
Helped me a bunch. On my model the tape was behind the two screws at the top. Had to bend the brackets back a bit to tweezer and pull the tape out. Thank you
Just a couple days ago I took off my laptop screen because my dog chewed the corner of it and damaged it so I had to order a new one, this video helped a lot.
My only suggestion is to "top justify" the new display when mounting it. I let it sit too far down and I wasn't able to install the bezel. I was able to salvage the sticky rubber bands and re-use them. Great video. There's a trick to every task. Thanks for showing us this one!
Awesome video. Highly recommended. I've been keeping postponing to remove the lcd coz of that silly sticky gum. After watching the video it did not take me 20 minutes just because I don't want to cut the tape. Thank you much.
Thank you so much for making this video - the black tape would have thrown me for a loop without your prior advice. I got both tape strips loose without either breaking thankfully - screen did come with one bad pixel but customer bought the part so I'll let him ask the vendor about that before I button it all back together - on far right side so should be no issue anyway - I'm thinking to use a few small dabs of RTV silicone in place of the black tape. Will stick but be a little more forgiving than the tape. Have you tried that before?
wow.. thanks for saving me hours of frustration and bending the lid. staff member just broke the screen and wanted a "super speedy" way to get it fixed lolll.
Thanks so much my new HP had a screen that was installed slightly crooked from the factory and it drive me nuts so I just carefully remounted it straight after watching how and it came out perfect!
is it still necessary to unplug the battery [even if internal] to switch out screens? I remember that used to be the procedure to avoid burning out the backlight chip in the motherboard back a few years. I imagine the most time consuming but proper procedure for this screen is to remove the screen assembly then slide out the hinge cover? just wondering.
Thank you very much sir! Really helped a lot in replacing a cracked screen on a HP 15-dy1038nr 15.6" Laptop. Got the replacement LCD on eBay for about $120. The whole process went very smoothly and is like brand new again! Definitely buy the double-sided tape he has listed in the description.
Just one thing . You took out two screws on the top right and left of the top of the laptop at the 4:00 mark . Then later , at the 9:42 mark , the screws are still removed . Then at the 14:04 mark , the screws ARE back in the top of the laptop . Maybe I missed it , but when did you reinstall the two screws on the top left and right of the laptop ?? Other than that it was just as you showed . Thanks again .
The tape snapped on mine on one side. Decided to heat the rear of the screen for a few minutes before continuing as I'm in a cold climate. This seemed to help. Also found it easier to remove the clutch panel (the silver plastic bit) so it was easier to position the black frame first and ensure the WiFi cable stayed put.
Just to post a big THANK YOU for this video: yo saved me with the sticky bands tip! I was loosing my patience and would destroy something without your help...
thank you for the video. Can you provide also a link for the replacement parts? I have to replace the display bezel, the display hinges and the display cover
Loved the video Tim. My screen has been flickering and Im wondering if its the actual screen or the ribbon flex cable. Is there a way to find that out? The screen seems fine when it's not flickering but when it does, it goes bright and sometimes white (picture is good but colour/brightness/saturation changes). Cheers for any help given or not. Appreciate your amazing run through of the replacement.
@@TimsComputerRepair yes the display. Flickering white lines and now has vertical lines and a bright "rising sun shape" at bottom middle of screen. I could email you a picture or video. If that would help.
Good job 👍🏻 I have just disassembled my broken screen and some of my friends said that I should remove battery while connecting the new one. Is there need to remove battery or not ? Thank you in advance.
Thanks for the tutorial Tim! I'm going to be repairing my laptop soon so can you please send me a link to buy the replacement screen? Thanks! Very much appreciated!
Perfect video! I am not a tech person but I am good at following directions so I purchased my screen repair kit from screenarama from Amazon and I was able to remove my cracked screen and replace my new screen on this first try. Thank you! PS I managed to break the bezel but it still works so it’s just cosmetic lol.
Thank you so much for this video! I was able to replace my laptop screen today and it was so much easier than I thought it would be thanks to your help.
Very well documented video Tim. Thanks for sharing! They certainly are making life tougher with the new screen designs. Does the 3M tape you put on allow for it to be removed like the factory tape did?
@@TimsComputerRepair what I may do, I am waiting for delivery of my new screen and tape, is use 3 pieces of tape 25mm long each side. That way I guess the screen could be popped off. Although, how many screen repairs would you go through before replacing the laptop? lol
Yo! Thank you so much! Just did this on HP 15-EF1038NR and worked as shown. I thought for sure I'd rip those sticky tape strips but as long as you are taking care when pulling it's even a little difficult to snap them. Amazing how those work and much better than dealing with glued-on screens. Thumbs up!
Great TIP about pulling the TAPE like those 3M COMMAND SRemovable Stickers for hooks or hanging strips. ONLY ONE Question, once repaired the 3MDouble Sided TAPE that you used is Standard Double-Sided Tape so in the worst-case scenario that we need to remove the screen again this tape might not remove by pulling like the Original Thick Tape? thanks for your help, before seeing your solution I was looking for additional screws and was getting ready to use a heat gun to help me remove the adhesive, you git the Jack Pot!
Nice job Tim. My mother in law dropped her HP 15 dy1031wm and now the screen doesn't work The computer still works because I can hook it up to an external monitor and everything is fine. Do you know how to take off the bottom cover to inspect the video connection there or anything else to make sure it is the screen that needs replacing. Thanks again for the great instructional video.

Dude, that tape... never would have known to look for that. The one I was working on had the monitor come unplugged. Thank you so much.
Glad I could help
I got this exact same laptop and broke my screen at the weekend. I followed the video and got the screen off OK, pulling the tapes out very carefully. Ordered a new screen from the number on the back of it. The new screen should be here by next weekend, also ordered a roll of double sided tape. This cost me in total about £70 (i am in the UK) that's about $95. The repair would be about £200 -£250 maybe. Great stuff thanks for the info.
Glad the video is helpful.
@@TimsComputerRepair Got the new screen today, typing this reply on my newly repaired laptop!! Yes!
If only I had found this yesterday, I wouldn’t have ripped off the housing bracket and dented up my case. Great video! Thanks.
Thanks for commenting.
Great vid! I ended up not taping the bottom of the trim to the screen, but everything went just like your video. Saved me a lot of money!!!
Thank you! You saved me 100's in getting my laptop repaired. Excellent instructional video
Glad it helped
Thanks to your tutorial, I didn't have to experiment with this HP screen replacement! One thing I noticed: Those screws up top does not need to be removed because the screen is secured by the adhesive correct?
Correct. Thanks for commenitng.
Thanks a lot. Saved me $175. and I had fun learning how to do something new! I really appreciate it!
Glad it helped!
Felt like crackin' a safe. Satisfied and relieved. Nothing broke. Couldn't have done it without this content. Thank you.
Glad to help
Had no idea about the tape on the back, luckily i found your video before I went too far, thanks for the work
Thank you sir! U just save me some money! My local PCgeek repair going to charge me 200 bucks for replacing my laptop screen. I can DIY it myself base on ur instructions
Good luck. Thanks for commenting.
thanks, just like you said, as a technician i was about to apply some heat to it. Didnt even notice the little tape sticking out! Thanks for that!
Glad it helped
I admit I followed you thru the procedure and as I did not see you put the screws back in , I "forgot" mine . Had to remove the Bezel again to reinstall them . My bad . Thank you
From one tech to another, thanks so much for making this video. I was able to follow your removal step by step.
Glad it helped
Helped me a bunch. On my model the tape was behind the two screws at the top. Had to bend the brackets back a bit to tweezer and pull the tape out. Thank you
Glad the video helped.
Finding this video saved my day when I was about to give up. Thanks a lot!
Glad I could help!
Just a couple days ago I took off my laptop screen because my dog chewed the corner of it and damaged it so I had to order a new one, this video helped a lot.
Glad the video helped.
My only suggestion is to "top justify" the new display when mounting it. I let it sit too far down and I wasn't able to install the bezel. I was able to salvage the sticky rubber bands and re-use them. Great video. There's a trick to every task. Thanks for showing us this one!
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Thank you TimsComputerRepair for showing me about that black glue screen tape and how to remove it. Saved me a lot of time and frustration.
Glad it helped.
Awesome video. Highly recommended. I've been keeping postponing to remove the lcd coz of that silly sticky gum. After watching the video it did not take me 20 minutes just because I don't want to cut the tape. Thank you much.
Glad it helped
Thanks so much! My son and I were able to replace a cracked screen with your help!
Glad I could help!
I just cut small strips of the used black tape and place that near all 4 corners. That is well enough to support the screen.
@@TimsComputerRepair Makes sense. I wasn't sure if it had enough sticky left. I used 6 dabs of silicone calk.
wow.. thanks for saving me hours of frustration and bending the lid. staff member just broke the screen and wanted a "super speedy" way to get it fixed lolll.
Glad it worked out. Thanks for commenting.
Thanks so much my new HP had a screen that was installed slightly crooked from the factory and it drive me nuts so I just carefully remounted it straight after watching how and it came out perfect!
Glad the video helped.
Thanks so much Tim!!! You are a Godsend!!! First time replacing a screen and your instruction made all the difference! God Bless You! ❤️🙏🏾❤️
Glad it helped
This has been so helpful, I have a newer model & was so confused on why it wasn’t budging. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
is it still necessary to unplug the battery [even if internal] to switch out screens? I remember that used to be the procedure to avoid burning out the backlight chip in the motherboard back a few years. I imagine the most time consuming but proper procedure for this screen is to remove the screen assembly then slide out the hinge cover? just wondering.
Hello, amazing video! great instruction, do i have to unplug the battery from the computer before changing the screen?
No need
So glad I watched this, you saved me a lot of headache and time lol
Great!
Glad the video helped. Thanks for commenting.
Thank you Tim! This is the first time i saw your videos, and really helped me to fix my computer! Thanks a lot again!
Great to hear!
Thank you for this video. I was able to replace my daughter's laptop screen with your video! Thank you!
Glad I could help
Just one thing . You took out two screws on the top right and left of the top of the laptop at the 4:00 mark . Then later , at the 9:42 mark , the screws are still removed . Then at the 14:04 mark , the screws ARE back in the top of the laptop . Maybe I missed it , but when did you reinstall the two screws on the top left and right of the laptop ?? Other than that it was just as you showed . Thanks again .
Probably just simply edited that part out. Thanks for commenting.
I have the 15-DY1031WM with a broken screen and was wondering if i could replace the non touch screen with the touch version ? Great video btw 👍🏾
I do not think that will work.
Thanks for commenting.
Just to post a big THANK YOU for this video: yo saved me with the sticky bands tip! I was loosing my patience and would destroy something without your help...
Glad it helped!
thank you for the video. Can you provide also a link for the replacement parts? I have to replace the display bezel, the display hinges and the display cover
FYI. If you can pull the elastic tape out without breaking it, and can keep it straight, you can reuse it for the replacement display.
OR you can buy replacement ones on Amazon for a few bucks. Just sayin'.
It is the display that is the problem.
Nope. Never been a problem for me when replacing displays. Now if you have a digitizer involved then maybe.
Glad it helped
Thank you so much for this video! I was able to replace my laptop screen today and it was so much easier than I thought it would be thanks to your help.
Glad it helped!
Very well documented video Tim. Thanks for sharing! They certainly are making life tougher with the new screen designs. Does the 3M tape you put on allow for it to be removed like the factory tape did?
Nope.
@@TimsComputerRepair what I may do, I am waiting for delivery of my new screen and tape, is use 3 pieces of tape 25mm long each side. That way I guess the screen could be popped off. Although, how many screen repairs would you go through before replacing the laptop? lol
Hello! Great video! Is the connector 30 or 40 pins? Thanks in advance!
This is an excellent video! Perfect step by step instructions and tips on what to look out for. Saved me who knows how much time and money - thanks!!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the video. Wouldnt have known about the tape. Used to replaces screens all the time around 8 years ago, they didnt use tape back then!
Glad the video helped.
Thank you for this video, it was much easier than I expected to replace my screen using the instructions on it
Glad it helped
Hp pavilion 15 eg 3026tu keyboard impressions on screen hogya.....
screen change krna hoga or kitna cost aiga ?
Nice Job Tim, I've not done a screen replacement in a while now so glad for the new education. keep up the good work mate
Yeah Migsy all of the manufactures are doing it this way now. Just how it is. Thanks for commenting.
Yo! Thank you so much! Just did this on HP 15-EF1038NR and worked as shown. I thought for sure I'd rip those sticky tape strips but as long as you are taking care when pulling it's even a little difficult to snap them. Amazing how those work and much better than dealing with glued-on screens. Thumbs up!
Glad the video helped. Thanks for watching.
Great tutorial. Without this I would have approached this repair in a much different direction. Thanks
Glad it helped
Champ! I dont like this system but your video helped me all the way from south aftica. Thank you so much for this.
Glad it helped!
Can I get a screen with higher resolution for hp laptop 15s eq 1000? I only have hd but I want to get FHD
Yeah you would then have to use a bit of heat and carefully pry the screen off.
Glad the video helped.
