I fully understand that Katie didn't respond very well to Greg saying "I love you" and that she wasn't as empathetic as she could have been to his very open feelings. But from everything we saw, I think it's clear: this experience was NOT something Greg was ready for. Everyone needs time and space to grieve, if he's still doing so, that's obviously fine. He's a grown man, he can do what he wants, but this show did *not* seem like the move for him to be making for his own mental and emotional well-being. The entire sit down with the family made me so uncomfortable. There was so much pressure and so many emotions and so much responsibility being piled onto Katie during that date, even if they didn't mean to. It was just so much, especially from the person she's worked so hard to keep around because he visibly seemed to have one foot out the door at all times and she was so invested in him. It was a horribly difficult situation to put her in and there were so many emotionally charged statements being thrown at her, and while he had every right to be confused and upset, he became defensive very quickly. He refused to listen to her and refused to believe her words.
I deeply think that he needs to take care of himself first. It shouldn't be on Katie's shoulders to give him his life and joy back, or any woman's shoulders for that matter. It sounds nice until you realize one thing could make it all fall apart and then suddenly Katie is being vilified for not providing that joy for him anymore. And he couldn't even listen to anything she had to say. They're both human beings, they were both clearly majorly invested, but it definitely seems as though he needs to take care of himself before he tries to get into a serious relationship with someone.

I wonder if he's had any grief counselling? I did a few sessions of group therapy 7 months after losing my Mom led by grief councillors. That first night the atmosphere was so heavy... everyone was in so much pain still. The only 2 men, one who lost his wife, the other his mom, didn't come back. The rest of us went through it for the 6 weeks and it was definitely healing for all of us. I hope that Greg gets the help he needs.

@@CourtneyShane Yeah intention does not cancel out impact. I agree that the reasons he said the things he did/acted the way he did were driven by real pain, grief, and insecurity, and not by an intention to be cruel or manipulative, but the fact is there are many, many manipulative and abusive people who genuinely don't know what they're doing - and that doesn't excuse their actions or behavior. This is classic miscommunication, with some emotional immaturity on Greg's part (imo) combined with the fact that both of them are in a VERY stressful position. At the end of the day, ALL relationships have miscommunication. It takes dedication and commitment to one another to work through those moments. If Greg cracked SO drastically at the first miscommunication, then... it wasn't the right relationship for either of them. And that's OKAY. I wish them both the best.
ALSO, for the preview breakdown, I am NOT convinced that the suv they show driving in the season finale preview is not Greg returning. Hmmmm... I hope not, though.

Greg's actions definitely come off as immature but don't forget he's just lost his dad. The emotional vulnerability of feeling like you're going to lose someone else that you love probably put him into a mental tailspin. He convinced himself that this was not going to work, Katie was the villain, so that he could escape the relationship and avoid going back to that dark place of feeling loss. I feel bad for him. He looked genuinely hurt, but at the same time, it wasn't fair to katie either.

They get worse and more manipulative. He may not be an evil guy, but he has some SERIOUS attention he needs to do to himself. If he was really in love with Katie, he would have not left so easily.
He needs a therapist not a fiancée if this is how he’s going to behave toward someone he claims to love. You don't get to decide when someone is ready to say I love you. No matter how insecure I am, I would never want to put someone in a position where they felt pressured. Is it great he was so open with her? Of course it is. But his reaction to her reaction was completely out of proportion.
People may date and flirt with people like Greg but they don’t marry them for long term partnership. He needs to get help.

With that being said Greg really has to do a lot of reflection about how this whole thing went. Yeah Katie didn't do the best job reassuring him, but its clear from all of her actions that he's been her favorite. He refused to communicate at all and bailed from this relationship that he's said he's all into at the drop of a hat. I really think he didn't actually want to be there, from my perspective he was not at all as into her as she was into him, and he used this as an opportunity to get out. I have no doubt Katie feels completely blindsided.

    Hear me out:
    1) Did that opening scene w/ Greg "seeing" Blake & Katie kiss not appear potentially FAKE and PRODUCED? We have no proof he actually did. Go back and watch that. It could've easily been shot after his blow-up with Katie, in an effort by production to smooth his image over. We don't see any shots over his shoulder with Katie & Blake in the distance. We have no shots of all three of them in frame. Just him saying, ew- I saw that, grr, icky, etc. This seems even more possible when we consider that...

Katie kept trying to communicate the reason for her lackluster reaction and apologize but he was refusing to hear it and instead began to try and turn it all on her "being different" and not the "real Katie" and then use her trying to validate him(like he was wanting) against her(the number one thing). Its was so unhealthy. Greg needs therapy. Seriously. He is not ready for a relationship.
And yes Greg she did ask you what was wrong and you refused to answer? Why are you upset she doesn't understand you?
And honestly Katies silence to me read as her being scared of saying the wrong thing to such an intense confession. It was a lot he put on her suddenly and I totally get her needing to process and saying the wrong thing. Same with how she looked at him when she said "I LOVE looking at you" (something like that) instead of "I like looking at you", but she used the word LOVE which i took as her basically trying to say she loves him back without straight out saying it. True, miscommunication is a big factor, alas, maybe, just maybe, their communication styles are so polar, that they'll never be able to understand each other sufficiently. Greg was simply not ready for the process. He needed reassurance. But he's constantly being reassured and comforted by Katie this entire season. I haven't seen a lead reassure a contestant so much right from the beginning. It was so uncomfortable watching the way Greg was talking to Katie. It maybe wasn't gaslighting but it was a level of emotional manipulation. Making Katie feel like she had something to apologise for.

  • @iliaalomia7798
    @iliaalomia7798 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

Sadly, the problem started with the way Greg's family kept implying that his happiness depends on Katie's decision. It all goes downhill from there. In the end, when Katie goes on her knees, and he goes cold, I died. In my mind, I want to change his words to something like "I don't deserve... you, look at what have I made you done. You can get better than this. I am sorry. I am gone" and self eliminates because he realized he is not ready for love.
More than gaslight or emotional manipulation, what I see is a broken man that tried to bond with another human on account of shared trauma. But the thing is that wounds heal, and when they do, you realize that actually, this type of bond is kind of superficial and convenient but can't hold an entire relationship. They deep down understood all that in that second but couldn't process it or voice that out. So getting cold was their way to escape.

I hadn’t dated since, so I don’t know. That said, I really felt connected to Katie while watching the episode last night. I knew the confusion and helplessness she felt. When your partner, who you used to communicate so easily with, has made up their mind and closed themself off to you, you are powerless and you feel defeated. I’m confident my ex had things he needed help with to be mentally healthy, but also am confident that he manipulated me several times across years reflecting back on it. Greg has confessed his feelings and he seems like a good person, but he also needs help.

Production can piece together words from totally different conversations and combine them to make it sound like its relevant to the conversation being shown. Entire segments of a conversation can also be left out, making it sound like someone is jumping to conclusions when there is actually a conversational basis for what was said. I don't know exactly what was done here. But, I do know that this is a highly-edited show that wanted to craft a particular storyline. We need to keep that in mind. We shouldn't be quick to judge.

We could have avoided this whole thing if Greg just flat out said to Katie “I need you to tell me that you feel that same way about me or I cannot continue”.. It’s a yes or no response. Instead he tip-toed around it to try to get her to say what he wanted to ask her. If Katie did see him as her #1 & her final, she could have just said “I love you” back. Who cares about the show at that point if the guy you love is about to walk out the door? With that said, I don’t think Greg was truly there for Katie given he just threw everything away that easily. If she does end up with Blake, I hope he doesn’t feel like he only won by default because that’s got to feel shitty😕 UNLESS Katie didn’t tell Greg she loved him because she also had feelings for Blake & she was unsure. Man, I DONT KNOW, I’m so conflicted😵‍💫🥴 I wish everyone the best at this point lol

Greg just wasn't ready to be on this show let alone find love I believe he still needs to heal from the loss of his father

Justin deserved more of a story line this season.

I think that Greg did expect Katie to say "I love you" back, and when she didn't a switch flipped, and the next day I felt like he was looking for excuses to leave. He wasn't being too clear with his reasons, and he had made the decision before going to her room, I don't think she could have said anything to make him stay.

Greg also seemed very dramatic about their breakup which irritates me.

@@ellenwest993 I don't think he' acting. I think he just didn't have good communication and expected Katie to read his mind. When that didn't happen, he turned the situation around and made Katie look like the bad guy.

Are everyone in Canada so understanding, empathetic, compassionate and... Mature I guess? This was Empathy 101. The only video that made me less mad after watching the breakup over and over again. Honestly, I still feel bad for Katie more than I do for Greg. She was the one who deserved way better

Katie is not responsible for Greg's actions. In fact, if anything, she dodged a bullet. Is that what the rest of their marriage is going to look like? Every time she miscommunicates is he going to threaten divorce? At the same time, looking back at the finale, it was also baffling why Katie acted the way she did. Everything she did for Blake was what Greg wanted, and everything Katie said she wanted and got from Blake, was what Greg wanted from her.

I feel like Greg expected Katie to be his emotional support system. I'm not sure how to explain it other than it feels like Greg expects more from Katie but not in a good way.

No exactly. And while that’s important to have, you can’t expect someone to fix you.

Ladies just cuz a guy is crying doesn't mean he is crying for you. He could be just crying for himself.
