    The Bachelor would benefit a lot from having a therapist on site for the contestants and lead, specially during the final weeks of filming. I think we can agree that the true villain here is Production. They almost always prioritize drama over resolving conflicts and finding healthy lasting relationships. Not to mention how they edit the show to portray a narrative that is not always truthful.

      @@monoinluv4894 They could have a nice equilibrium of both like they did for Tayshia's season. First weeks some drama but during the final 5 emphasize the romance, the relationships and conversations with each guy. I think audience responded in a positive way to that part of the season because they got to know the contestants and root for them.

      They actually have a therapist on set, but the "client" is ABC, so when contestants are talking to the therapist it's not considered client privilege, and much of their conversations are immediately conveyed to producers to use to create more drama. It's terrible.

    They left him alone in a room after a meltdown not eating for a day. The show set him up showing him the other date, bring up his father dying, and letting him freak out. They are the gaslighters- they tried to wreck a young man on network TV. this should be investigated. His future work and wellbeing might have been damaged by their manipulation.

      @@alexvalentine4934 Hi! For anyone who cares to know, this is the working definition of Gaslighting: Is the act of undermining someone else's reality by denying facts, the environment around them or by denying the other person's feelings. A therapist, Dr. Solomon, explained it on Nick Viall's podcast. She said that "some of the phrases and dynamic (of Greg towards Katie) could be considered as a gaslighting behavior". Is he a gaslighter? No, but his behavior in that moment was gaslighting. She mentioned that it can be a one off behavior that is not exclusive to emotionally abusive relationships and that it can instead happen to all of us during an argument of a normal (but unhealthy) relationship. People need to stop throwing this word around.

    • @shepardsmith3235
      @shepardsmith3235 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@alexvalentine4934 Alex I practiced law for 33 years. I was not a contracts attorney but a litigation attorney. The contracts attorneys are experts at crafting contractual documents and from what I have heard you cant believe what these people sign to go on the show and they aren' t paid a dime in money. In fact they go in the hole to provide a wardrobe and all of that is in the contract that they blindly sign. And they are held to its terms because no one is forcing them to sign. From what Ive come across, the provisions of the contract stipulate that they can do what ever they want with your character and they almost all play parts. They can record and edit your character any way they want and that includes making you the viillian and ruin your reputation and this is infront of millions of viewers and can be irreverisble. They can present you in any way they want and you agree to this. So when you sign the contract to be on the show, in many instances you make a contract with the devil. And again no one forced you to sign it. And thousands and thousands of lambs to the slaughter are lining up to do this. And the terms most assuredly contain provisions that you absolutely agree not to sue the production company under any circumstances and you agree to this by signing. And there are terms which would make you liable for blabing about and more. And no one forced you to sign this contract and it is presumed you read everything and agreed to it by signing. What more can I say???

    I have panic attacks - and what I saw during that fight was someone spiraling. No it’s not productive - but it’s a fear response and a lack of control. I wish mental health was discussed more during AFR, wish there was empathy. No one was in the right or the wrong! And for those of you who are saying “he needs to get help ASAP blah..” I also had a therapist I was close to that died traumatically while I was under her care. It really disrupts the process - it’s hard to find someone you trust again without feeling like you’re going to lose them. So cut the guy some slack.

I've been in that position before when I've spiraled. I knew when watching the footage of him going back to talk to Katie that he hadn't slept in days and was just in a traumatic stress response because I recognize it myself - the dry lips, pale complexion, foggy affect. of course, I know that when I'm in that mindspace i shouldn't be talking to anyone about anything important, but this may be the first time greg has been confronted with how damaging it can be - especially because he experienced all his trauma recently.

      Yes. The show is actually really terrible at what they can do to people. Edit them. Rearrange their words to make new sentences (!), totally distort the reality. I saw on Bachelor RealiTEA IG a girl showing how they edited the “love looking at you” scene. The show will do anything to get people in a frenzy. I really hope everything works out for everyone. There’s been 4 successful couples in quarantine. Keeping things in reality works so much better than fantasy world extravagance. Of course ppl break up so soon back home.

    Greg is clearly a wounded individual. He was reacting emotionally. I don't think he was acting throughout the season or intentionally gaslighting. That is where I disagreed with Katie. I'm not sure why people want him to be the Bachelor. He still has a lot of work to do on himself. You can tell by the way he threw an insecure tantrum and wouldn't admit he made mistakes or had regrets. He contradicts himself sometimes in his interviews. Nick had to pull it out of him. People who are in denial have trouble changing and growing. At least he is realizing it more in this interview compared to After the Final Rose. what makes me believe this is genuine is when he said that you can’t let a person be your happiness & that you have to be happy with yourself first. Greg found the positive in this situation and Im very happy for him. This whole thing showed that he’s not truly ready for a relationship despite him thinking that he had recovered from the passing of his loved ones. After watching this, I can see that his hostile reaction during the breakup was rooted in fear of losing someone again. While it doesn’t excuse his behavior, it explains it.
    Katie had every right to feel how she felt during AFR, however I hate how gaslighting is being used nowadays. What Greg did wasn’t gaslighting. He was spiraling. His mind was in a million different places and he didn’t know how to handle his hurting & whirlwind of emotions properly (which as someone with bipolar disorder I can definitely relate to). I’m glad he’s going to therapy again & I hope his healing process goes well.

      Greg was splitting from the fear of abandonment and extreme stress. I've seen my husband split countless times when he was in the depths of his substance use disorder. People who split have little awareness of what is happening to them and it is so confusing for those who witness it. Had Katie known he was suffering from a mental health crisis, I am sure she would have been more compassionate. Her intentions to raise awareness on gaslighting were in the right place, but she was so off the mark. I wish this show did more to protect the mental health of the cast. I remember a season a woman had a panic attack and she was accused of faking it.

    Nick's interviewing skills are getting better and better. He asks the questions we all want to hear the answers to. This season got messy all around. I gained insight on the situation (from both Greg and Katie's POV) after watching Dr. Diane's Instagram live breaking down the break-up episode. Greg is not a gaslighter and Katie is not mean/cold/robotic. They both handled a complicated situation poorly and reacted with very different attachment responses. People need to stop villainizing Greg AND Katie. The psychology of this whole thing is fascinating to me. I bet if the Bachelor franchise had a psychologist/moderator on-hand that Greg and Katie would possibly be together right now. It's time for this franchise to offer mental health resources for its contestants. Wishing them both lots of love and success. P.S. It did break my heart a little to hear that Greg was waiting around and prodding producers to see if Katie ended up with anyone at the end. If I were her, that would move me. I appreciated this respectful interview. It appeared as if Nick needed to hear Greg acknowledge regret over how he handled his interaction with Katie. I would have preferred to hear Greg share on his own that he now has regrets. I think that there probably is pressure from many people that felt discomfort with him saying on the show that he wouldn't change anything. The experience appears to be very emotional. I wish the entire cast the best! I think they all probably learned a lot about who they are!

I chalk his vagueness in the beginning up to that deer in headlights feeling - he's clearly not very good at rehearsing what he needs to say first lol

    When you have a deep emotional connection to someone and they connect to someone else as well, (Katie to both Greg and Blake) I’m sure that creates weird behaviour in anyone! ..because the 1st connection (Greg) is basically being cheated on and can feel it. It might be the shows format but it goes against natural human behaviour/instincts to have multiple emotional connections by choice. I feel his reaction at the time was totally understandable. He went from being her front runner real deep connection, to suddenly feeling a backseat after she fully connected with Blake at the hometowns. I don’t think he should be too hard on himself. He is a feeling guy, who was feeling squashed emotionally by a second connection. Had she wanted him, she wouldn’t have let the other emotional connection penetrate. Perhaps it caught her off guard and she didn’t realise the ramifications.

He got defensive she wouldn't say she loved him,but wanted to say it once at the end. I get it's hard to be dating multiple people not just you,but it's a show. He was upset seeing her with Blake and blew up. Understandable but again it's a show,not just you. If Greg would've just acknowledged Katie and apologized she'd be with him! Blake wasn't even sure she was the one or wanted to propose to her! I hated him saying I can't give you what you want at the proposal, not even ok. Surprised Katie didn't get mad. I don't see her and Blake lasting long. Love her but I can't see it long-term. Blake unsure and she's open about how much sex they have,yes it's nice but not the base of a forever love or marriage.

I was happy to see Greg owned up to some of his behaviour, that is what has been hard to watch for me, the overall lack of accountability and people making it seem like ONE person had to be right, so the other is wrong... People are quick to divide and take sides, but things are not often that simple. I say, 3 sides to every story- yours, mine, and the truth in between. Its about learning growing and that takes accountability. No one is perfect especially during breakups. Everyone needs to work on themselves, and no shame in that, was a relief to see him reflect and have empathy, I hope they can both can learn and heal from it, cause that is what it is all about! He did not take responsibility for it during AFR because it was filmed a month before the ending. I really, really think he thought he was going to come off looking better than he did in the media. He ended up looking absolutely terrible, and I think either he, or producers, thought he was going to end up looking better and I think they were framing him to be the bachelor. With that montage at the end of that episode, that looks like an in Memoriam, I think everyone thought it was going to go over a lot better. And I am super confident this is why he didn’t take responsibility for anything because I really think he didn’t think he did much wrong. After he was called out when everything aired, I don’t think he had much of a choice. It’s like when someone apologizes not because they have done wrong, but because they have gotten in trouble.
