Great video - though in the A-pillar step (2:41) is the cable fouling the airbag, so in the event of side-deployment would the cable be in the way? Have seen some videos say to run behind the airbag which seems to be in the entire A-pillar and above into sidelining?
I See you went straight accross the a pillar , most cars have an airbag there so should it be needed the airbag will deploy and meet the cable which will result in air bag obstruction
Just a note of thanks. Installed a Thinkware 2 channel yesterday in my Mk7 and was mostly puzzled by the set up of the rear camera. This was a great walk through.
I have a MK7 and as you know, it's only got the USB's in the center console. I have a wireless carplay adapter in there so I can keep it closed and don't want any wires going in there. Where did you end up plugging this in?
Nice tutorial! Did the Tessa tape (for the wires on the front facing dashcam) actually stay in place for the long term? Windshield glass can get hot in the summer… so I’m wondering if the glue in the Tessa tape actually held up, or did it come unglued? Every time I buy Tessa tape, the glue is really weak. Maybe I’m getting counterfeit tape…?
@@LastHumansGarage Good to know, thanks for the reply! Maybe I just had a bad batch of Tessa tape. I hear the Amazon warehouses tend to get really hot, so maybe the Tessa tape roll I received from Amazon had been baking in a warehouse for a while and the glue denatured and got less sticky. I'll try getting a roll from a non-Amazon source.
It's probably not worth going back, but on mine I routed the cables in the front thru the over head controls and cut a hole out of the bottom of the rear view mirror trim for everything to come out of. Removing the two pieces of rear view mirror trim are a HUGE pain in the ass but it does make the setup that much cleaner. Can send you photos if you'd like to see!
I might have q silly question buuuut is there a way to drill this somehow to the outside of my car. I don't want to put on the inside. I have a sedan so it would def be a different view than a camera in your back window.
@@LastHumansGarage I screwed it into my previous car it was fine. May need to get it professionally installed anyhow I wonder what they do. So answer is no.. it should be mounted on the inside?
@@LastHumansGarage what concerned me is your jump from windshield to the outer side of the weather guard. If you are doing the easy jump, I would re-run the cable to go under the airbag
i remember that i couldnt get the a-pillar off, and i had done a few VW's before. I didn't want to break clips or lose any down holes like previous cars. so i did it that way
How did you go around the B Piller? did you go from the front door seal up to the b pillar/headliner crease like you did in the C pillar, back into the rear door seal?
Do you happen to have DAB receiver radio?Any issues with reception? Does the radio fall back to FM when the cam is on? I basically took the same routing and my DAB reception is literally shit now. :(
Lmao i was expecting some kinda magic see thru tape or sumn looks like electrical tape and omg that tibe you have to fish lines thru sux i had to do thar on my gf taillights she got bland sequenctial..nice install thank you for pointers im getting ready to do same thing..by the way love your vidd been watching you for yearss
I really hope you did, but in your vid it looks like your putting the cabling OVER TOP of your side curtain air bags. You have to pop out the a-piliar and go behind it. Did this when I installed my DR900, pain but I like not dying
Yes it is very important for the safety. Those airbags rush out that 300 KM/hr speed and the copper inside these wires can be deadly. I just self installed on my Lexus today ( DR750 2 Channels) . I t took me extra 15 minutes but definitely I was able to run behind the airbags. Glad I did.:) Safety first my friend. Take care.
LastHumansGarage it's a two stage clip so it won't come off all the way initially. Once you have it popped out there's a decent size gap, the hanger you were using would make this easy work. If you want to completely remove it you'll need a pair of long needle nose pliers to slide the clips out of the channels they sit in (stage two). I hope your NOT in an accident, but you def want all your safety measures unobstructed if you are! 👍
@@LastHumansGarage I did not pull out the entire A pillar. Just enough to feed the wires behind the airbag. Same as you did but open that corner a bit and slowly feed the wire. For the safety , go very slow n gentle while dealing that area of A pillar. Experts recommend disconnecting the car battery before dealing with airbag area. Good night. It is nearly 4am at California. I am still awake. 😊
Big thanks for showing you rear cam install! It looks like I have a new project to work on with the removal of the back panels. Still makes me a bit anxious about breaking the clips. Where do you get Tesa tape, other than online?

thank you mate! rear cam cable route is clear, im gonna use that for mk2 tiguan
right on mate

great video, but what about the curtain bags along the roof lining?
What about it?
@@LastHumansGarage Wont your cable stop the airbag from deploying correctly?
Yes true the curtain airbag wil throw the cable through the car. Really dangerous

The rear windshield rubber you have removed should not be reassembled with adhesive ?
you mean the wire loom parts? As long as you don't break the clips, no, it does not need any adhesive. all that will do is make a mess
