And now, let’s work on how to achieve the split! 🙌
Are you a beginner eager to master your splits or have you been practising for a while and are not sure what’s holding you back? Here you'll find how to get started! This stretch routine is perfect even for inflexible people!
So many dancers have asked me about where to start when trying to attempt splits!
Well. the first step is understanding where a split comes from.
While many people think we only need to stretch the legs to do a split, there is more to it than that. 🤔
Flexibility doesn’t come from just one part of our bodies but from working and connecting every part so that our muscles, nerves, and tendons can work together to help us stretch more deeply and reach new limits.
Pushing past our current limits also requires patience, consistency, and breath. 🙏
If you’re ready to stretch it out with me and move closer towards your splits, let’s get started! 💪
And if you haven’t warmed up already, try one of these warmups first to heat up the muscles and get your body loose:

Thank you! I’m working on my splits for almost a year already and just recently discovered that my lower back is holding me back. Really grateful for these exercises, not only did they help me to get a little deeper into my split, but at the end of the day I indeed recognized more range of motion in my back, no back pain after having done the shopping and a feeling of ease... wonderful. For all who plan to do the exercises repeatedly: They start at 5:00💐👍🏻

Thank you for this! I’ve been following your other splits videos for the last few months as for some reason have vowed to do the splits by my 45th birthday. 11 days to go. A couple of centimetres off the ground....

Alessia, your generosity in sharing your knowledge and skills is soooo appreciated. I've tried yoga but always ended up hurting myself. I love the way you teach, gently and accepting of the different stages we are all at. I've started ballet again at 52 and can't believe how good my body feels!! Yes ladies! with patience and going slowly you can feel loose and flexible in your 50's!
Muchas Muchas Gracias beautiful lazy dancer! (from Australia)

I could feel and sometimes hear my pelvis bones moving around and readjusting!! Very odd experience but not painful. I love how you don’t stay in the painful moment but keep going back to them little by little. Already there was a big progression between the beginning and end of the session. Thanks for the tips Alyssa ☺️

Thank you for always showing variations! Wish I had had you as a PE teacher so I could have learnt earlier how to properly do stretches no matter how inflexible you are.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful, wonderful stretching routine! I did it yesterday after one of my usual workout+stretching routines. Today, when I did my workout and stretches, I noticed less tightness and more flexibility in my hamstrings/back of my legs/hips. I finally broke past my middle and front split plateaus! My straddle easily opened to 160 degrees, and I slid into both front splits just an inch off the floor.

Thank you, as yoga people we do a lot of stretching but what was nice about this class was all the detail you gave us.As we are in our sixties I doubt we will do the splits, but we enjoy trying with your help.

I am 20 years old and from the age of 4 till 18 i have done ballet, contemporary and hip hop. I wasn't ever very flexible but i could do the rights splits. After a long time not stretching i decided that i wanted to get more flexible so today i did those exercises for the first time. The truth is i was impressed from how much my left leg was shaking but i know that this is a good sign that im doing it right. My lower back was on fire too something i didn't expect either. I loved it and im recommending to you all try it because only with the first time i know that this will definitely work for me 🙏🏻 thank you

Thank you! I have unbelievably tight lower back and hamstrings. I found this very helpful even though I do not need the end goal of a split.

Wow! My right leg split has always been difficult and not as flexible or comfortable as my left leg split, but this stretch just changed all that. I am very excited to do both leg splits now! 😊

Great stretching routine.. thank you ! Ballet style stretching is all new to me, just wondering if you ever recommend pulling yourself into a deeper stretch? I noticed that you are more focused on using your muscles to get you there. Is this correct?

I was wondering I've been running alot lately, and I noticed if I run in the morning, train for my splits in the evening I'm alot less flexible than usual.
Would I just train for my splits as usual, hold my split or my stretches longer or run less any advice ? :)
