  • Here, golf coach Ian Sadler explains how golfers are often told to attack the golf ball from the inside path, which in essence, is correct. However, this can sometimes be misleading and if the club is swinging too much on the inside path then this can have a detrimental effect and be one of the reasons why golfers experience wayward golf shots.
Swinging the golf club too much on an inside swing path can cause more problems than its worth and potentially spoil your golf swing. Here, I explain why golfers sometimes get very confused and frustrated, especially when they continue to swing the golf club too much from the inside path.
One of the main problems comes when a golfer gets the club stuck behind their body and this has the effect of forcing the clubhead outwards in an attempt to salvage some kind of shot. This is also described as an early extension and is a very uncomfortable position to be in and difficult to get out of.
Remember, the club should be travelling on a circular path in the backswing, downswing and through swing. The perfect swing path is slightly in, to square, to in. But there is no reason why you can't experiment swinging a little out to in as you swing through the ball. In fact, you should practice this as part of your practice routine to see if you can shape your golf shots.
Give it a try and let me know your thoughts. Regards Ian.
