Hi there Saul, hope your 2024 is going well? Don't be ashamed. Music is like reading the works of a great author: you have so many new chapterss to discover? And lall artists, singers and musicians go through, what I call the 'Bowie syndrome', changing and evolving. Scott Bon is no exception. All the bands he was in before, gave him, the experience to TRULY give ACDC something special. And boy! THAT VOICE? And as all greats - his talent can bee seen as something special - he always had. He simply hadn't put on, the right shoes, that fitted best? ROCK AND ROLL blue suede shoes you might say - made in the beginning, back in 1955 😎 You sound like a great person. Welcome to the magic club of those who admire and respect great music. But what ever you do - let there be ROCOOOOCK! David
A mere 3 yrs later to be in one of the greatest rock bands in the world singing songs like Jail Break, with a little diminutive demon running in circles around him. Bon, one of the best that’s ever been. With huge love RIP Sir Bon…
@@davidbeeson9408 I used to cut alot of firewood for extra cash. One day we were listening to AC/DC driving up a mountain, and this short scrawny spastic redneck MFer I used to cut with (who also almost resembles Angus) starts singing loudly "IT'S A LONG WAY TO THE TOP IF YOU WANNA CUT SOME WOOD!".
This reminds me of another favorite singer, Dio, and his time with Elf. The first Elf album is amazing, and like Bon, shows how talented these guys were
The Late Bon Scott (R.I.P), could sing well in any genre of music, and how prophetic the lead guitarist is playing a Gibson SG, Bon would later be United with another Gibson SG player.
I have read that Bon, after the Valentines, joined Fraternity in part because he knew they were a band serious about music. And that he learned a lot about music, and musical structure, even though that wasn't really his style.
I’ve loved this song since I was a kid, I would have seen this on GTK, 8 in ‘71.. but never knew the name of the song, or the band… and had no freaking clue that this was Bon.
I was about 15 when I first fell in love with this song. It began my love affair with rock music which spanned a 40 year long career. It’s only now I’ve discovered it was Bon Scott on lead vocals. I have a new found respect for both Bon and the song!❤️👍🏼
Good to see he was tattooed before ACDC. He had the bad boy flex before joining the band. Unlike some other lead singers of hard rock/metal bands I know of.
Better with a bagpipe than with a flute. Who would believe that guy sang If You Want Blood (among others) !! (Rest) Rock In Peace, Bon. You remain the greatest.
Not a flute, dueling recorders at the start. Learnt to play a recorder at Primary School and never considered it a musical instrument. I prefer Blackfeathers version than this. I suppose he had to pay the bills doing something.
His voice was much different before is motorcycle accident. The rough and gravely vocals we have all come to love was the by-product of said accident. Guess that is where the import version of “little lover” gets the: Oh baby you sure looked sweet Cruisin' A leg either side Of my motorcycle seat Just oozin' 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
My whole elementary music class was given a recorder to play and none of us could figure out how to make it sound good. I/We were blessed for Bon playing the bag pipes with AC/DC.
Yeah the guitarist fit the music but this rendition sounds too much like a single coil strat . We know Angus Young’s SG sound but an underrated one is Robby Kreiger’s of the doors when they let him cut loose
I remember this song fondly on the radio in my youth, still one of my favs- never realised Bon fronted them, sure I saw them live st the local Bowral dances in the early days 🤔🤔
@@jeffuren6942 They actually came out at virtually the same time, both charted very well, actually Fraternity's version was even more successful. It was a Blackfeather song , however, Bon played the recorder part on both versions.
Whoever scouted the members for this band was some kind of genius. What other comparatively minor band can boast having the likes of Jimmy Barnes, Bon Scott and Swanee all from the same band?
There the lyrics See the snow falling on the ground Days of old, oh so cold Red ship sailing among the cloud melts the snow still I'm cold People dancing in the streets in the town a small boy cries eyes of love turn to nerves of stone blind the sun, not for me A season goes so quickly you dont know where you are A season goes so quickly you dont know where you are I said I'm sorry Dont you know I try everybody stops me and it makes me cry See the snow falling on the ground days of old, cold so cold

Reading Brian Johnson's autobiography and this is the version of Bon Scott that he met. Bon was in a folk rock band called Fang - possibly this same band with a different name? - who supported Geordie on a couple of dates and crashed out in their hotel room because it was too cold for them to sleep on their bus. Wow, Bon was really following the trends in rock music in the 60s and early 70s.
I've been a lifelong AC/DC fans since 1975 and I'm personally ashamed that I've never heard this before. Thank you for sharing.
have you seen dirty deeds countdown , one of bons greatest perfomnces, its on you tube, i think it was in 76

U should see him seeing back up for the Valentine's
The recorders absolutely give an early Spinal Tap vibe.
The lead singer here proving that it's a long way to the top, if you want to rock and roll. Hmm, someone should write a song about that.
Rock has deeper roots than you realize. How old are you?

Hmmm that lead singer looks odly familiar tbh he looks like that one singer in the band called "the valentines"
from sixties pop to progressive rock to hard metallic rock , a long way to the top.
If you wanna Rock & Roll.

Well said.
Way back before Bon was raising roofs, he was raising barns.
Bon was also in the hard rocking and legendary Valentine's. How they are not in the hall of fame is insane.
Don't forget the Spektors before the valentines ...there's a few audio takes on you tube somewhere

Is this satire? Hard rocking? The Valentine’s were shit.
holy crap, didnt know this, only know him from acdc, he killed this, what a voice
Try watching Bon in a pre Fraternity group, called The Valentines , another Oz pop group from the sixties.
I thought everyone knew

What a rare classic video of a legend in the making.

The SG is a very versatile guitar.... 😉
Always loved this song since I was a kid. Had no idea it was Bon Scott! With a recorder no less. Legend.
Same here 👍

Fantastic music - modest, sincere and pure. Bon is just like a purifier here, indeed

From recorder playing "Mr. Sensitive" to Mr. Whole Lotta Rosie" - a lot of range there.
R.I.P. Bon. Unique voice. These videos need to be released on DVD.
I grew up listening to him nobody can say he wasn't a good singer miss him think about the music he could have made if he lived longer
Where a legend began
I think The Valentines were before this.
Bon. In his early Amish years
Lol!!! Exactly!!! :)))
Explains why he's not playing an electric flute
He was an Amish mechanic but he got tired of all the horse shit.
😂😂😂
😂
Wow! Bon could sing anything. Never heard him sing in his upper register like this. He was definitely more at home in AC/DC.

When Bon sang about it being "A long way to the top of you wanna rock n roll" he was including this period, too!
He never played bag pipes. That was all miming for the camera..he played drums

Just loved 😍 this, at 66 new to me 🇬🇧 uk
Wow! Beautiful!
Something about this tune gets deep into my soul. I heard it back in '72 as a little kid, and it's still hauntingly brilliant!
Acontece o mesmo comigo, a primeira vez que escutei essa música foi em 2010. Estava passando por um momento muito conturbado.

Wunderbar 😢
That was good !
That is crazy man. From that to this to that. wow
Is that the first ever cool thing to come from the recorder?!
and truly live too !
I love the flute!
There the lyrics
See the snow falling on the ground
Days of old, oh so cold
Red ship sailing among the cloud
melts the snow still I'm cold
People dancing in the streets
in the town a small boy cries
eyes of love turn to nerves of stone
blind the sun, not for me
A season goes so quickly
you dont know where you are
A season goes so quickly
you dont know where you are
I said I'm sorry
Dont you know I try
everybody stops me
and it makes me cry
See the snow falling on the ground
