This band changed my life, I moved to Canada 30 years later, had a blast during their live concert in Toronto, bought my first electric guitar (now my collection is over 20, plus own branded), learned to play rock and blues. Bought a 6 channel audio system just to play Maching Head DVD Audio disk.. You guys changed soon many lives and soles forever.
This performance is perfection. I've played this vid for a few friends that have never seen it. Their minds were blown. I remember reading an old article years ago and the interviewer asked Ian Gillan why DP didn't play this song more often live. Ian answered, I can only sing it selectively because it would blow out my vocals. This is one of the few times they performed this song live so it's pretty goddamn special.
This song represents all the aspects of 70s music: great songwriting, melodic parts, noise, volume changes, velocity changes, improvisation and brilliant instrument playing.
For what it's worth it reflects on the criminality of the Vietnam era, the utter protest of the senseless suicide of those sent to their death's due to the political garbage that's jabbed down the unknowing gullet of souls lost to time.

this is probably the best song ever played. The instrumental is fantastic and for the vocal performance there is no good enough word to describe such a thing
Ian gillian-one of the most powerful voices in rock history! Ive listened to this literally hundreds of times over the last 30 years and each and every time i hear it i get goose bumps ! This was when real music was made. Timeless. Masterpiece. Perfection.
He is just a screaming nut with a girl voice. But thats what they want us to listen to. Real Music never hits the music store since the 50s. They are headwhashed all over
Right at the top of the greatest songs and rock performances of all time!! Everything about this masterpiece is perfect, executed perfectly by an incredible combination of talent!! Who can write or perform this stuff today? I get emotionally and viscerally moved each time I listen to it; never will I tire of it, even if I listen a thousand times! It's that good.
This is one of the most beautiful and most perfect (from the technical point of view) songs ever! Every player excels in playing his own instrument/voice. They all play at the same time, nevertheless you can perfectly hear and feel each of them separately. So beautifully and so perfectly played, it seems that every note of each of the instruments was written keeping in mind every single note of each of the other instruments. Amazing!

When I first heard Petr Elfimov's cover I was knocked out by the purity and brilliance, but listening to Ian Gillan again, there is so much more passion and emotion. Technically Elfimov is superior but he borders on being robotic. Nothing to touch Deep purple!
This footage is 54 years old and counting. The youngest in the audience is now in their 70's. And what a privilege to have been there. I just wish I had.
I saw Purple (namesake Ritchie Blackmore, lead guitar who I used to claim as a cousin!) at Glasgow Appollo (Greens Playhouse) and then at followed them to Edinburgh the following night. Awsome and this track is unsurpassed with my mates Tommy Barney, Len Barney. Peachy Lyle, Geordie Broom et al. Great Days!!
Lost my mom last month, and this was our song...I'm blessed to have music like this to remember her by I'm 32 and gave a taste of great music because of her....this song is truly a healing process for me...
My condolences... its the only song I have with my dad as he left and did not see him much but this was always the song he would play me. stay strong brother one day you will sing it again with her !
From The Blacklist S09E20 😍😍😍😍. The alias Marvin used "Claudis" IRL Claudius was a Roman consul who seemed as weak for a person in past then he start ruling his way to become the emperor.
Episode 20 showed how brillaint strategist Marvin is and how ruthless he can be. He was not like Kate destroying Red's empire and Red by legal works, unrevealing red's crimes. He killed Red's weakness and made him the leader Red needs to be. He killed people who was about to reveal his plot in Red's name. He was almost killed by Kaplan and got arrested, always took trouble for Red, Red tortured him and now he was about to kill him. Apart from that Marvin was like a backbone for Red's empire like Dembe, Kate, Teddy etc. After all this he will accept Liz as his Boss?? Liz was an unworthy for Red's empire, Marvin could've ran that for Red.
@Geoffrey Morrison According to the history books, Ian Gillan joined Deep Purple in June 1969. The original JC Superstar album was recorded in 1970. But a brilliant choice regardless. Saw Gillan with Deep Purple about 6 years ago - he's still got an amazing voice but it's not quite enough for Child In Time. The band stopped performing it live in 2002.
This is why the 70's music will always be remembered. When it came out on the radio, I bought the single, then later the Album. Smoke on the Water is another of their raw magnificent artistry.

I am going to see them live on Saturday! Woo hoo, hope Ian Gillan does this one. I consider myself extremely lucky. The gig has been postponed for 3 years due to covid. Support act are Blue Oyster Cult, who I wasn't that familiar with so been listening to them on youtube. Like them, so looking forward to it. It's not even sold out, so don't agree with the person who said tickets would be going for thousands of pounds. Mine were only 60 odd quid and are row G!!! No idea why they were so cheap. Gig is in Glasgow, Scotland. Maybe we are so mean we refused to pay any more and in other countries they are indeed going for thousands of pounds. Yes there is some truth in the Scottish stereotype I'm afraid! Hehe. Will report back next week. I saw the stones about 5 years ago and they truly put younger bands to shame, I have a feeling these guys are gonna too.
I think this music is epic. We didn't just listen, we lived it. It always takes me back to the amazing times that I lived when there wasn't all this hate. We believed and I still believe in "PEACE."

I understand you!❤ I am born too late.... (2001) And i hate the music (and everything like houses, cars, clothing and so on) of this time (2023). The music is fucked. The people are fucked. Everybody looks and dress the same. The cars look like clouds. Old cars are more rectangular in shape. I think everything after the year 2000 is wrong or ugly. And from 2000 to now (2023) has gotten worse and its gonna get more worse. I didnt live in the 60s and 70s, but i love the 60s and 70s. I try to have everything of the 60s and 70s or older. And if i had a time machine i will pack my stuff en go. If i cant return back to this time where i live now (2023) i will be happy asf and live a happy life. I am 22 years old now and it was the best to live around my age now (22) in the 60s. Born around 1940-1945 not in 2001. Going to woodstock and monterey pop and live happy. I dont like it here and i understand that "older" people always say "Everything used to be better" (in dutch "vroeger was alles beter"). And i understand there where some bad things happening, but i think every time has bad things. And i like the 60s and 70s more, then how the world is now. Not only the music was better. The cars, houses, clothing are all beautiful. Now everything is ugly. The houses, clothing, music and so on. The difference how people do to each other is so different. And i didnt live in the 60s and 70s, but u truly believe the 60s and 70s where better then it is now. And the people where different. My grandparents are lucky with there age. They were born around 1940-1945, but i dont know why but they didnt like this kind of music and other things.. i will trade and be dead before 2000.😂 (sorry if my english is not very good, thats because i wanna learn, but i only speak dutch and i never speak english or other languages)

In the early 90s I was becoming a teen and interested in all rock including classical. My dad introduced me to Deep Purple and I immediately fell in love with this song. He isn't in the best health anymore but I always think of him when I hear this masterpiece.
Spend as much time as you can with him, clearly a man of great musical taste, must be so many things to talk to him about. Give him a call, I call my 86 year old dad every day.
Difficult song to pull off live, especially as a vocalist. Props to Ian Gillan for this live vocal performance. Deep Purple are definitely etched into the rock & roll mountain of fame.
I went to the Deep Purple concert last night, 9th of July'23. Iain, affected by Parkinson's and at his venerable age, did not sing this piece. Of course he couldn't performed it anymore. in each case, for their age "chapeau bas".

My parents loved it, me and now my children....timeless music!
I bought this album when I was 13, I am 64 now and that scream still sends chills up my spine!!
Yes sir, I was a kid and loved it.....did not understood the lyrics, but now it takes all its sense. To why I love it.
Holy Crap!! Am 56 and that scream made me have an epiphany that I think King Diamond was influenced by Ian Gillan lol!! I LUV This Performance!
54 here. Same. Christ, makes me tear up and I have no idea why except maybe that nobody does this kind of thing anymore.
God Bless Ian Gillan ❤️🔥
And mine fab rock that stands the test of time
Wow, this is one of the most powerful rock songs that I ever heard. No autotune, no tricks or anything else, just a sheer talent and artistry.
This song represents all the aspects of 70s music: great songwriting, melodic parts, noise, volume changes, velocity changes, improvisation and brilliant instrument playing.
For what it's worth it reflects on the criminality of the Vietnam era, the utter protest of the senseless suicide of those sent to their death's due to the political garbage that's jabbed down the unknowing gullet of souls lost to time.
it was written in 69 btw
Si parece una tocata y fuga en do menor de j.s.b
it's garbage.
It's a intricate song with so many layer's to it
Best performance ever! Ian Gillan one of the best voices!

Stimmt !🙋♂️
The fact that so many people of different cultures are commenting on this song proves that it's one of the top rock songs of all time.

Amazing!

I liked it when he sang: 'aaaahhhhhh aaaaaHhhhh AAAAAHHHHHHHH' Very popular at the dentist office I bet (assuming they have those in Britain).

I am born too late.... (2001)
And i hate the music (and everything like houses, cars, clothing and so on) of this time (2023).

🥰🥰🥰
Ha ha you Russians - murderers and war criminals!

That voice is a musical instrument on its own WOW
Ian Gillian has the most perfect voice I’ve ever heard🌹🌹🌹
Gillan's voice was just amazing. Great range. Fantastic musicians.
David Gilmoure as well... 😁
This is one of the best songs of Deep Purple. I think so. Applaus!
To be honest: This is one of the best songs EVER.
This is another band that I grew up with always fantastic music and yes what an absolutely great song
Phenomenal. When Gillian screams I get chills down my spine and tears in my eyes. And I was born in 1970. Legendary.
dunt matter when ya born, flower. that "gob" is un surpassed. most of 'em fall by the way side. not this mob.

Same here.
Just sit back...and lose yourself.... Timeless music right here!
Great piece and exeptional singer. He just NAILED it.The days when rock was expressive and original.
Listen to Eva Cassidy. Perhaps the most beautifull voice i´ve ever heard. Human voice can be such a treasure.
I am with you on that....
If you are into sonic perfection, check out...."My Romance" by The Singers Unlimited......Eva is also on their level....
Yes
😊
Difficult song to pull off live, especially as a vocalist. Props to Ian Gillan for this live vocal performance. Deep Purple are definitely etched into the rock & roll mountain of fame.
I really prefer this live version.. Gillan is the Master ❤
I went to the Deep Purple concert last night, 9th of July'23. Iain, affected by Parkinson's and at his venerable age, did not sing this piece. Of course he couldn't performed it anymore. in each case, for their age "chapeau bas".
My cousin's husband can sing this song to a tea. He has that rock voice from the 60s 70s. And we are in New Zealand.
@@nirabob6131This is the first time I've heard that Gillan has Parkinson's disease. Where does the information come from?🤔
