Hello Sara, I am an older intersex woman, a medical doctor, and I teach about intersex at the med school of a large university.
To correct you, it is not estrogen that made you grow tall, but not enough of it (I am 6' 3"). Estrogen fuses the growth plates of the long bones, and not having enough of it makes you grow to you possible genetical height. That is why boys are taller than their sisters.
Otherwise you can live a productive life, and even have a family (I adopted my wonderful daughter).
You just have to believe in yourself, and do the things you feel compassionate about.
Lots of luck for you future life!

You had the exact opposite experience that I did. When I was 11, I started to grow breasts. I'd started puberty but it was female puberty. My natural testosterone level eventually stalled it but it confirmed what I'd always known: I was part boy & part girl. This was in the early 70's so they didn't have any kind of "treatment" for it. They didn't start giving me supplemental estrogen until a year and a half ago. I really wish we could have done it sooner but it is still so much better than it was. I had to keep this to myself for 40+ years, present totally male and it was okay but now that I can mix my female side into my everyday life, I am infinitely happier!

I found out that I had a male testicle instead of an overy when my husband and I were in a Dr's office while we were trying to get pregnant. My husband had a worse problem with it than I had. He left me that day and threatened to kill me. I had to call the police. He went to jail that day, and I moved to Alaska to get away from him. I've lived off grid in Trapper Creek Alaska ever since. It's been 40 years now, and I've never hidden this from anyone. I've been with the same man for 38 years now. He doesn't care that I once had a testicle. DSD and Intersex are not the same thing.
intersex is a genetic disorder, DSD is a hormonal disorder. DSD includes psychosexual disorders such as Homosexuality and Gender Dysphoria.
i didnt hear her state her precise disorder, she just refers to it as "intersex", which is not a thing, "intersex" is a term that summarises a broad range of very different genetic conditions, not a specific condition that a person suffers from.
"Intersex" refers to people who have a chromosome pattern other than the usual XY or XX. They may have one X chromosome (XO), or they may have an extra chromosome (XXY).
people with DSD have usual chromosomes, (XX or XY) but have some physical aberration from normal sexual development for that gene type.
from a superficial observation, it would seem her body is producing a female balance of hormones, regardless of her genetic makeup. however, that could be drug induced.
most DSD are entirely preventable (but highly unlikely to achieve, given the disorders are usually caused by endemic environmental toxins, such as EDCs, which exist in high levels in almost every modern commercial product , from basics such as foods and clothes, to houses and vehicles. almost everything that comes out of a factory or farm.

XXY klinefelter’s syndrome is not an intersex condition. Trans activists like to claim it is, but it’s not. Those who got ambiguous parts are males, but she doesn't have that.

Sadly, filters drop and inappropriate questions come out. It's almost like the urge to touch a pregnant woman's belly, entirely inappropriate; don't do it.

omg this hit home so much. Ive never related to a video so hard. This is the first video of you ive ever seen. I am male. Also 1994 born 29yr old. But had always felt different until i went to the doctors about a lump on one of my testis worried that it was cancer. He examined me & look puzzled as well as sending me for some blood tests & a scan. It wasn't cancer thankfully. Before ultimately at the age of 21 diagnosing me as intersex. I am 47XXY so genetically have both male and female chromosomes. I also tried to send my dna into a family testing thing and they came back saying there were problems. So much of my life suddenly made sense when i was diagnosed. Why id always have a higher voice. Why i seemed to have wider hips and more breast tissue than the average male. Why when boys being boys would hit each other in the downstairs area & theyd all writhe on the ground but i felt nothing. Why as i got into my late teens more and more people thought i was female when first meeting me especially if i wore hats which sucked as i used to wear hats a lot as part of my daily clothing. Why i never really grew any facial hair nor much body hair. Subsequently was told i couldnt have children which was very confusing as at the time i believed i had already had a baby boy. Due to me now knowing i was infertile it later came out that i wasnt the father of said boy but i loved him as my own. Being a father & having a family was all i could ever imagine myself doing when i was younger and being told that not only was that impossible but that the kid who you think is yours isnt was completely heartbreaking. I know there are other routes for having kids like adoption & it wouldn't be the first time in my family for there to be an adoptive line in the tree not in the slightest. But its still a punch in the gut. Not many people know i am intersex & those who do dont quite get what it means. There are some friends who tease me about me fathering a child so young unaware that actually i am incapable of having children & alexander isnt mine. I've been raised as male & always seen myself as a man so will continue to be he/him the rest of my life. The intersex awareness thing got me too. Every single year i think should i post something on facebook. I still havent but one day will have the guts too. I'm getting more and more brave and open to do so so maybe this year will be the one.

Opinion from a stranger, sharing it on Facebook would bring so many more negatives than positives. Not because it is shameful in any way, but your friends might react in ways that change things in interactions. And obviously it would need to happen after your son knows the truth, assuming you plan to tell him.

    • @dog771
      @dog771 ปีที่แล้ว +41

@@lilolmecj if his friends act differently towards him after finding out, they probably just need to work on themselves. OP would simply be revealing something about himself that's always been true, and that doesn't really change who he is in any way, and a good friend (or even just normal person) would understand that i think.
it's also good for people to share things like this, not only for themselves, but for anyone else in similar circumstances. spreading awareness is just good in general, as the more awareness there is, the less likely there is to be people like you mentioned, who would react negatively to the news their friend is intersex.
so i see where you're coming from but i still think OP sharing his situation on facebook when he's ready is brave and commendable and an overall net positive.

The philosopher Kathleen Stock points out that she would be considered as “intersex” under Fausto-Sterling’s “preposterously over-demanding conditions on sex category membership”, as she lost an ovary in early adulthood [3], which would count as “intersex” according to Fausto-Sterling.

More recently, I have listened to many stories like yours, and my heart goes out to my intersex brothers and sisters, whose road is often very painful emotionally and even physically.
I’m a very socially traditional minded person, but I accept that a fair number of people have been handed by nature genetically anomalous situations that means their development and gender identity may not strictly follow their chromosomes. Gosh! Puberty is hard enough without getting dealt this hand. I’m glad to see the efforts to educate and connect with those with similar struggles for support. I've been living as a woman for 13 years now and it's the best decision I ever made. Gender dysphoria really is an extremely horrible feeling. Even if your parents don't accept who you are, at least everyone else does. Being accepted for who you are makes your life feel so much more complete. @@CiaraNíShúilleabháin1990 But is the term "transgender" applicable to intersex people? Transgender is a person who is born as one sex and transition to another. But in your case you're born with both, you just choose one over the other, not go from one to the other. Since the parents do have to make a choice, sometimes they choose their child likes, and sometimes the child doesn't agree with their choice and chooses the other as soon as possible. It's not exactly passing from one sex to the other if you have both to begin with, no? And I think it must also be much easier to transition than other people who were born with only one.

I am a 76yr. Old woman, XX chromosomes. My story is that of a girl who was messed up by endometriosis. I didn’t have my first period until I was 14 and it was very painful. I would go months without a period and the doctors would give me shots to start on . I never knew when I would have a period, therefore could not plan for it to start. My periods were very painful and lasted a week( the pain, too!) I was only able to have one child and the doctors said I was lucky to have him. I had a total hysterectomy when I was 30. The endometriosis hah gone into the walls of my uterus. When I was in my 20’s the endometriosis got out into my abdomen, causing perintitis, I had to have surgery to remove adhesions. All in all I was never so glad to get rid of all pain! People who have no difficulties in their lives have no idea what others go through, they are unable to understand what we go through. One should never judge someone else for their life choices, everyone has the right to live the life they are most comfortable with and not be torn down for what life has handed them!

Please do not call yourself old. I am 66, my husband is 72. There is nothing wrong with “old”, but it is a mindset. My mother started calling herself “old” when she was in her 60’s. She became old b4 her time. She has dementia…..she is a beautiful woman. But she definitely became old when she started calling herself old.
Oh well. Call yourself old if it makes you feel the way you want to feel.

She suffered a lot. And loved a lot. And was loved a lot. She lived at home until she passed away at 57. She was unique - a treasure and a gift. Each of us is.
