Yes, there's a demand for videos. I'm glad to see you every time. And you've given my husband some answers he needed about getting a tattoo, so thank you!
Oh the Pfp is one of my bestfriend's work. She's a doctor normally. She draws as a hobby only. And the banner is a picture I took 4 years ago If you're asking about them all.@@SimoneBellomonte
I never got a tattoo. Got my first this year at 41. I love it. I am very happy i got one. I would just say make sure its something that means something to you. If you are on the fence dont do it until you know 100% that you want it. I plan to get more too, but will go by this rule
My moms friend had one advice that I have screamed from the rooftops: "If you REALLY want a tatoo, draw out the creative idea, look up the artist, think of where you want it..... and then wait a year. You would be suprised how many cool ideas were actually dumb a year later. Plus you save the money and then you know that you really actually wanted it if you were willing to wait a year."
Yeah I have a journal of tattoo ideas some are 9 years old🤷♀️. You really stop thinking about it after awhile while the important ones stay in your head.
I have tattoos I've waited for over a year (plus waiting time on that particular artist, usually they open spots once in half a year, plus saving up money etc - I usually don't ask artists if I don't have anything saved up for it) and tattoos which were made very spontaneously within quite short time (less than a month, a simple abstract line tattoo with lyrics). Most of them aged well as in I still like the ideas behind them. I also have some that didn't age well quality wise due to the artist lacking the knowledge of the technique - but these can be covered.
I was never into tattoos, personally. I can’t help but think people running out and getting them right after high school is a bad idea for exactly what you shared here. It’s not that “tattoos are bad,” or just because I’m not a fan, or anything like that. It’s the apparent lightness of the decision compared to the weight of the consequences, and I think it’s good for you to share your experience like this.
As far as age 25, I definitely feel hands, neck, face, and head should be reserved for this age and above. This is coming from someone who is 44 and has been tattooed 45-50 times, including hands, neck, face, and, head.
A tattoo is like wearing that favorite t-shirt of yours forever and never being able to change it. No matter how much you like it there’s probably times you’d rather not have it
*Laughs in Hawaiian* it's literally a part of my culture and heritage. Not a day goes by where I'm not appreciative of my tattoos. The very word tattoo comes from Hawaiian and Samoan and I would never change my tattoos. I earned them.
When i work on a car or something and get dirt& grease all over my arms & i wash them it looks so good to see my arms clean again, if i had tatoos no matter how hard you scrub its not going to look clean again, forever . Can tatoos be successfully removed ? How much does that cost ?
@hihhuhuijaa4165 it being insensitive to some people wasn't the reason that I brought it up. I just found it funny, also because I'm lithuanian and I wasn't expecting such a shout out😂
i am 25 now and i absolutely understand what you mean by “only deciding on your own from the age of 25” because i used to want avatar the airbenders tattoos all over my face when i was 19. luckily i had no money back then
With love, it sounds like you wanted tattoos to fit in with the other people in the “rock band” aesthetic, and now you don’t want them anymore bc you want to fit in with the other girls in the “clean girl” aesthetic? When you said you grew out of the look I couldn’t help but feel like this look is also like that and it will change with time, which is how people are! I personally think your tattoos look awesome on you because they are so unique and make you look really cool and interesting! Maybe eventually you’ll find a style that’s more personal to you, and that you’ll incorporate the tattoos and other parts of you that you don’t feel “fit in” with other styles to create your own and just be authentically you, and not just try to make yourself look how most of the people around you look? As you said, those environments aren’t permanent. Either way I enjoyed the video and thank you for sharing ^^
lady tattoos does not make you look cool and interesting.. it makes you look like trash and the fact that you try to claim its somehow unique is beyond laughable because it's the exact opposite! makes you look like a sheep who follows stupid trends
I'm 22 and I've dreamed of getting tattoos since like always, but I've yet to take the plunge due to my ever-changing early twenties identity. It's nice hearing the stories from old people still loving their tattoos, but it's equally interesting and important to hear about the stories from people who do regret. Gives us more perspectives to weigh in while making these permanent decisions. Regret is truly a sensitive topic no one likes to talk about, especially when it's relating to self-expression, so thank you so much for sharing!!
I'm closing in on 70, a few years away. I got tattoos for years, both arms and while I would do things differently if I could turn back the hands of time, such things don't happen really. The arms tell a story of travelling through time, people accept me for who I am, or they don't. Today, they are mere ornaments of a life well lived, sometimes they separate "the wheat from the chaff". Live your life well and fully, embrace those who love you, ignore the "naysayers".
Here´s a friendly reminder for everyone considering matching tattoos: choose your tattoo partner wisely, and be absolutely certain. while I thought I was sure at the time, it's wise to reconsider. Thank you Sara for sharing your story! 💚
i would say a better advice/reminder if you wanna get matching tattoos is just do not do it,you might be sure or certain as you said at the time but eventually that mostly turns into regret
Additionally: Get something that you would like having on you, regardless of the other person attached to it. Even if you fall out, there might be this story behind the piece, but you will still have something that you can feel good with.
And hey, if by any chance you end up getting a matching tattoo (because let's be real, we've all been there), why not pick something that doesn't reveal its meaning at first glance? For instance, you could go for matching tattoos of Pokemon or cats. That way, if the relationship ends and someone asks about the tattoo, you can always say, "Oh, I got it because I love Pokemon" or "I absolutely adore cats, that's why I got it." No one will suspect it was a matching tattoo. Alternatively, consider getting something small and thin that can easily be erased with laser if needed.
There's no such thing as CERTAIN in life esp. in relationships and even marriages. That's like saying something is guaranteed. Nope! Life isn't even guaranteed so how are marriages and relationships!?
i have two which i forget i have sometimes, they’re on my ribs so they’re rarely visible and i honestly like that about them - they’re meaningful to me and the lack of visibility means i don’t invite unwanted conversation about them from onlookers! i think visible tattoos look awesome though and, as you say, the stories and meaning the individual attributes to them are often the best aspect! relating to this, what i honestly love about tattoos (which i know not everyone does!) is that they’re a typically permanent reminder of a temporary period in your life. in my mind, they serve to remind you where you‘ve been, and who you were at the time of getting them - which, at the time, was a very real person with their own thoughts, feelings and desires! i personally believe that we should endeavour to remember and feel compassion towards the past versions of ourselves so we can continue to grow and evolve, and tattoos (while they aren’t the only way to do this of course!) can definitely serve as a reminder of that :) i know that’s all easier said than done though! i have times where i feel regret towards my tattoos, so i try to remember the younger person who was so excited to get them and try to feel compassion towards her! thank you for this video sara, it was great to reflect on this topic :)
thanks sara! to say it’s 7am in the UK i’m surprised it’s legible 😂 i’ve been watching your videos for years, so you definitely have a viewer in me if you decide to make more :) hope you have a great day!
" permanent reminder of a temporary period in your life" that is so beautiful. I have never wanted tattoos and most likely never will, but that sentiment touched me. Sometimes it's nice to think about our younger selves and having a tattoo from those times must be a good way to remember how you were back then.
You can think about it as much as you want but we all change from when we are 18, 28, 38, and so on. Also tattoo art really dates you. All of these people getting these black out tattoos they are going to look so 2020's in the next decades.
She could have given it all the thought in the world and still regretted it. Here's the take away: we're dynamic in our thoughts processes and feelings. How you feel today is not how you're going to feel five or ten years from now. Look at marriage and divorce. You can love something or someone only to do a 180 down the road. You can't, unfortunately, "divorce" your tattoos. The same goes for music taste. It's an evolving process as well, and a lot of people no longer identify with their adolescent music playlist when they reach their thirties or forties.
Beautifully said. It’s such a taboo topic, so I love how you just speak from your own thoughts and feelings. It’s so valid, and okay. Indecisiveness and accepting is so hard. It’s so comforting hearing your journey because I resonate with you so much. You are so appreciated. Continue doing what feels right for you, and if you fail or want new things in life, well that’s just a new part of your journey. Changes are hard, but accepting where we are now is so important. You seem very accepting of your own thoughts, and it’s so refreshing to see for me, since I’m going through the same thought processes. Thank you.
My tips for people taking their first tattoos: Avoid symbols and names, stuff that's "in fashion" atm. Pick a placement that's easier to hide for possible conflict with work(/family). If you want to make a tattoo about a person or a band or something, try to find something that reminds you of the feelings you associate with rather than image of the thing itself - this way you don't have to think of the tattoo as something you grew past or something you broke up with. If that happens, you can just cherish the love you felt at one point, also helps to avoid awkward questions. Try to sit on a tattoo idea for a year before actually getting it - print it out and stick on your wall so you'll have to see it everyday
Great tips. I want to do a tattoo for several years now but I didn't had any exact idea until last fall. Now I'm waiting for it to stick and the idea is exactly how you described it to be - it's a feeling in an image. But I didn't decide about a place yet and I think I'll go with a place for my first tattoo where it could be easy hidden.
This is why I love setting a "theme" or style for yourself and sticking with it. Ultimately, tattoos are for you, and not for others, so you have to consider the parameters you're willing to live in FOREVER. I only have traditional tattoos of animals. It lets me spontaneously get tattoos (maybe I'll go get a tattoo today - squirrel sounds good!) without getting something I will absolutely regret. They can represent whatever I want, or nothing at all. Also, highly recommend waiting. Everyone I know who started getting tattooed at 15-18 has at least one tattoo they regret. Everyone I know who started in their 30's has not a single piece they don't love or cherish. Perspective is very helpful when you're permanently marking your body.
i got 2 tat's that aren't very big but it was the worst decision i made in my life. I have recently got one removed and will get the other one removed later this year. Back then i didn't know the difference between good attention and bad attention.
As a young person getting tattoos, I really feel like not everyone is meant to get tattoos, they're not for everyone, I think it has to do with your personality and mentality. For example I have a friend who got into tattoos with me when we were 16-18 years old and she's a total perfectionist, and she started to regret her tattoos at 19, because she could see little crooked lines or because it didn't come out the way she imagined it and she wants to remove all of them. Me on the other hand, I'm someone who has wanted tattoos since I was a child and I'm no really a perfectionist in that way, whatever happens, happens. I have a bunch of tattoos that I would in hindsight do differently, but I would never want them removed, because at one point I made that decision, at one point I really liked the idea of that tattoo and to me those tattoos are like a snapshot in time of me. I also have memories tied to those tattoos. It's like a diary entry on my skin, and removing one of my tattoos would be like ripping out a page in my diary. I'm constantly changing and the tattoos on my body to me, are proof of that. I think you kinda have to have a little bit of an "I don't give a fuck, we are all gonna die someday" attitude when you plan on getting heavily and visibly inked.
As someone who has no tattoos, I totally agree that some people should not get tattoos. I feel like if I got tattoos I would be really critical about it and bothered by little things.
yess..i'm 21 now and have a little over 15 tattoos now (small-mid size, more of a patchwork style) and totally agree. Like even tho i may have patchwork that is trendy, the designs themselves are really unique and are not influenced by trends at all and just represent me. I've known that i want them for as long as i can remember and i'm also not a perfecionist at all haha i really agree with the statement that some ppl are meant to have them and some people aren't. i couldn't imagine myself without them haha
I have a few tattoos, after my first I came to understand that they won’t ever come out exactly like I picture them. In a way it gives them their own personality
No this is nonsense. I’ve wanted tattoos as a child too. In fact I wanted tats, piercings and gauges. I got the piercings but not the gauges bc it’s professional suicide. Even now as a hobbyist writer and painter, all of my paintings have pple with body mods. Told me loved ones close to me of cool sleeve and back piece ideas. I vividly remember telling my uncle how I wanted a full back piece as a teenage and him saying “you will never be able to wear a open back dress in your life!” Was so committed I was spent a year on a research quest for “healthy organic ink” to bring with me to the artist (which doesn’t exist btw). All of my ideas had meaning, in fact meaning within a meaning, history and were African concepts not even heard of in the West, vert significant to me as a black person. I even found a west African painter to sketch a digital drawing to present to an artist. All I needed was the money I was saving so I can use a really good quality artist I have in my city who’s work I’ve been following for years. I STILL CHANGED MY MIND. Rather ABUPTLY too! I went from “I’ll get one” to “Idk if I’ll get one” to “I think they’re not for me” to “I now dislike seeing them on the human body” in like a year. Combined with the fact the ink is bad for your health and having a friend who has bad tattoo ideas that are now on her body forever. I thank myself for listening to myself and waiting until I was 30 before investing in my first piece. Best decision ever, because despite all the research in ink, history and significance, concepts, anticipation and meaning I’ve put into tattoo ideas, I would literally have regretted every single one of them right now at 27. Every. Single. One.
I’m 25, never got tattoos bc I knew I would regret them. Not bc of other people telling me I would, but from past regrets in my life. I think there’s plenty of people who want tattoos and don’t regret them. Which, GOOD. I like tattoos on other people A LOT. All of my past partners have them. I really liked your video. It’s very honest.
I'm so glad I was flat out broke between the ages of 18-22 because I wanted SO BADLY to get tatted up but never got a single one because I was already struggling just to pay rent. By the time I graduated, got a full time job and finally had spending money I realised that I absolutely did not want them anymore and am happily tattoo-free today.
In general, I've always seen sudden decisions to get tattoos as a form of poor judgment. Their permanence is a huge downside, plus frankly, I don't think I've ever seen anyone tattoos that I think look good.
Nobody cares what you think about their own body. I say….live and let live. The most horrible people I know and with the poorest judgement….are people without tattoos. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t have any myself.
@@marieladiazcampos214 Well, "nobody cares" about the people you know who YOU say have poor judgment. Incidentally, the preferred spelling of judgment is without the extra "e", if you're American. You would be hard pressed to find many people agree that people without tattoos are likely to have poor judgment compared to those with tattoos. I can make the polar opposite claim, and I do believe that more than half of people would agree with me: as a generalization, people with tattoos have exhibited poor judgment throughout life more often that those without tattoos. A huge number of people who got tattoos come to later regret it. Whereas there is no one who goes around regretting that they never got tattoos.
@@KpxUrz5745 even if English is not my first language, I speak fluently, more so than many native speakers. I know 4 languages. How many do you know? And yes…I am American…born and raised. It always makes me laugh when your type goes and tries to humiliate the other person with cheap tactics like criticizing a multilingual person. It is laughable. So anyways….to stay on topic….many colleagues (doctors) of mine have tattoos so….including a surgeon. In the US. From a top school. So your argument is failing. Never judge people by their outer appearance. You never know.
@@marieladiazcampos214 Your unnecessarily defensive response (even though I was never speaking to you), is almost comical. Speaking of failed arguments, you bring in a few total red herrings including how many languages you speak and whether your friends are doctors! I am not about to start listing my many credentials, because it is totally irrelevant and off topic. I made a very simple clear statement, that I consider tattoos a form of poor judgment. Even if sported by doctors. Your argument that I use "cheap tactics" like criticizing a multilingual person is utterly illogical. Huh??? Multilingualism was never brought up here! I never said one word to denigrate multilingual people. Please try to focus here! But back to reality, on any given day I see hundreds of mostly obese and unattractive people with tattoos, and I'm sure none of them are doctors. Most people with tattoos end up with a good degree of regret. Things might be different if the tattoos actually looked good. It is just an unfortunate trend, and I use "trend" in the worst sense of the word.
It is very good that you share this story for younger people. The way you feel now I felt when I was a teenager, I was so convinced that I would hate my tattoos later on in life and I never got any, and I was right, I would hate them, now approaching forty I know myself even more and I am really happy I had that feeling when I was a kid. Now when it comes to tattoo removal, I would suggest doing it while your skin is still relatively young and regenrates more easily. As you age your skin looses its elasticity and collagen which affect how well it heals, so if you can try to do it while your skin still heals more easy. Good luck!
I have 3 tattoos, and I hate all of them. I regret them so much, it makes me depressed at times. I have a tramp stamp that’s so embarrassing, and rather big. 🤦🏼♀️ I feel this.
The good news is it can be removed! I’m in the process right now of doing laser removal. It’s a process though, about a year but I’m so happy to be able to remove them.
Each to their own Sara, I got my first at fifteen and have two sleeves. I'm 67 and I'd still be getting them if my wife hadn't intervened and banned me from getting any more. Oh, and as far as your rock n roll career being over because your label dropped you. Labels come and go and I'm sure if you want a career in music, you will find a way. I have subbed you and enjoyed your content.
Sara siulla on yks kauniimpia lauluääniä mitä oon koskaan kuullut!
At least this is a superficial thing like the cover on a book. It's what is on the inside that really counts. It's not the same kind of a regret like not having done something differently that you can't fix or do over...
this is dear to my heart this subject as I'm heavily tattooed at a young age, I'm only 22 and I don't know how I feel about some of my tattoos already, I wouldn't say pure regret but sometimes I question them and I do worry a lot about what other people think... also more importantly you are funny as hell! love your chaotic energy, subscribed!
I'm 23 and just almost finished my entire back, belly coming next. I honestly don't share her opinion, but with the style she did and how everything is executed... I get where she's coming from
I just feel this is a very important video for the younger generation. Hopefully it will make the youngsters at least think twice before they make these permanent decisions.
@@sara4sberg I think with the way you bring it out they just might listen. You are not judging, not even yourself, just saying what you think now and that is sooo important to them. Thank you for being you and taking the burden of helping others with your honesty.
I was already following you when you got your cathedral tat, crazy how badly it aged unfortunately. I am also very tattooed and although I got them after 25, sometimes I still would want to erase all of them. I took the route of becoming a tattoo artist myself which I also regret because I would practice on myself giving myself busted tats. Anyway, no turning back now, the magical tattoo eraser button unfortunately doesn’t exist. We just gotta keep rocking them.
@@anon2218 one at 16, one at 19, one at 21. The one I got at 19 I regret the most, the other two are small enough to where I can live with them. It’s not about age though or the context of the tattoo for me. I wish I was blank. There was nothing wrong with my skin exactly the way I was born. I would feel this way no matter what age I had been. I guess some mistakes you just have to make yourself to realize them
When I saw tattoos for the first time at the age of 6 (or possibly even younger) at the river where we went swimming, it hit me like a lightning. I was spellbound and knew one day I would certainly get some myself. Fast forward, I am 40 now and for the past 20+ years I've probably though once a month for a while about tattoos. But I still have a grand total of 0. I just can't make up what I would want. I am trying to approach the thought as "what is something I would have loved when I was 6, 16, 26, 36 ..." to give it the best chance at continuity, so that I would keep enjoying it in the future as well. I am overthinking it for decades now: - I want something not too small, but mostly hidden, with a bit of show when sleeves are pulled up and the button is open - fully coherent, I don't like the little mini patchwork of different styles and ideas mishmashed together - no clear motifs, like a protrait, an animal, cartoon, compass, plants, i tend to find those tattoos amazing to look at, but it would not suit me - so more like abstract shapes that can hint at something like an animal or so - only black ink - needs to have personal meaning - high quality, high skill artist, price doesn't matter This is how far I get and then I give up lol. Since 30 years soon lol. And slowly but surely I start to have "inverse tattoo regret", it really bothers me that I still don't have any.
Sara, you are hilarious! I found your channel because I was researching another topic which you spoke about related to genetics. Anyway, there are deep, worldviews, philosophical and sociological issues you touch on which point to real life. Making permanent decisions about tattoos or anything else, based on a temporary situation is an amazing observation and many adults have regrets because they did such things when young. Instead of regrets, maybe we should simply see such decisions as the price of tuition and hopefully, we grow old and wise and not just into old fools! Yes, Sara, there is indeed an aspect of reality (metaphysics) which most people never deal with. So, most of us just live our lives, get old, and die, leaving the pains and the joys of life in this world for the next generation. Thanks for sharing and I hope and pray you continue to touch on such issues and maintain your humor and joy for living.
I've been following you for many years now and I've always loved your tattoos and kinda envied you for having the courage to make permanent decisions, something I could never do, until this day. And even now I still like your tattoos because even though they're maybe not representing who you are today, they still tell a story about who you used to be.
Thank you for this video! As a person who is considering getting tattoos to cover cutting scars, this information was very helpful. Now I will be more careful what kind of tattoos I will be getting, especially since I already have something unpleasant on my arms. Also keep making your videos, they are my favourite on TH-cam! ❤️
I've got many tattoos from my time in service, and many scars before, around and after them. We are all marked by the lives we've lived. I try to let the leaves lay where they fall, I've been in a good, non-judgmental community and church, enjoy the life you have and be thankful for it all.
i honestly think that that the most detrimental contributor of tattoo regrets and just getting them because u saw it on pinterest and liked it i hv gotten both meaningful and just aesthetic tattoos but i ALWAYS go through the design process with the artists and attach feelings or memories to each tattoo even if there isn't a deeper meaning to it. i also think there's a difference between disliking and regretting ur tattoos, for me i have always accepted the probability that i might one day not like my tattoos anymore but i will never regret getting them it's art on my body but i also view it as a journey that has made me who i am whether if i was immature or impulsive at the time it will always be a part of me.
Just got my first tattoo at 40. I've always wanted one. I did wait for the right time, right artist and design. Five years from the time I choose the design to actually getting it done. I appreciate your perspective though and wish you the best on your ink journey whichever way it manifests itself. ¡Salud!
As a tattooed person who will never regret getting inked, this is a very welcome viewpoint too! Some tattoos may be gotten for the wrong reasons. And in wrong spots, or a style that does not last the test of time. All of mine are very deep, personal and meaningful to me. So i will never regret any of mine. (Also, most of them are literally ancient designs :D)
@anne-mad3151 people keep saying that to me too, but honestly I do not care enough about what the skin on my arms looks like to regret them. I'm gonna get old and wrinkly anyways, so why should I care about something that I now consider a part of my body? I think there are plenty of people that can say they genuinely don't care enough to regret tattoos.
@@anne-mad3151 I can also say that about the person you might get married to, the children you might have, the pets you get, the house you buy, the education you get, the place you move to.. We live and make decisions that we might regret some day, it's part of being human. A tattoo you dislike later on seems disproportionately small to all the examples I mentioned.. but we can learn the virtue of acceptance from all our lessons.
You could have tattoos with very deep, personal meetings, and still regret. I spent literal years, thinking of a piece for the side of my body based off of a ancient west African language that is significant to my identity as a black woman. I also wanted a tattoo of a heroin significant to the transatlantic slave trade rebellion. I had thought of the style and concepts, and how it would look good on brown skin. I even thought of the ink that would be used on my skin, Wanting, Inc. that is organic, healthy and ideally “handmade” that I would personally buy and provide to my artist (such ink does not exist btw, and all ink has cancerous reactions to sunlight). Even with that all being said, and those years of research, even finding a west African artist to paint the ideas so I can present them to an artist, I would literally have regretted every tattoo that I had gotten at 27. The crazy thing is I still enjoy the concepts and ideas that I had, but on the human body? No. You can just dislike the idea of markings on the human body, which is something that I’m beginning to feel. So I have even to this day acknowledge cool tattoo pieces, but also think that they look like distractions on human body parts no matter how cool the line work is, the concept or the meaning. It’s not about changing your opinion about a tattoo idea overtime but rather disliking the concept of tattoos all together.
Well, no, because there are moments of weakness or stupidity when some of us want to jump off a bridge. Like, legit want it. And the society I think is correct about having a mature conversation and support systems in place to help them not make that rash choice. I know tats are a lot less consequential than jumping off a bridge, but say s*x change is somewhere in between. Which is its own can of worms, to put it mildly, b/c the ideal time to start a transition is WAY earlier before a person is considered old enough to drive or drink or vote. Anyway point being, we need to have mature conversations about things that are kind of permanent.
I remember wanting so many tattoos when I was younger (mid 20s). I am thankful I listened to my intuition about not getting them all. I am in the process of getting a medium sized one removed off my back (I got it when I was 21). Laser tattoo removal is time consuming and takes a year or two to be completed - also very expensive. it hurts a crap ton too. Think long and hard before getting ink- in my older age I just love the look of a clean body. Your taste will change - if you don’t think they will just think of what you like 10 years ago and how much that has already changed. Tattoos are fun and personable, but regret happens more often than not it seems.
@@kathleenking47 when i was in the navy over seas ports there were lots of places to get tatoos& hey were dirt cheap, the captain and the EX O would talk.to the crew about tatoos they said and i agree." a tatoo is the mark of a weak mind trying to express its self" there were 350 guys on my ship , i remember only one guy got a tatoo.
I had Tattoos and never realised how looking at them every day gets old quick and my taste and views changed as I got older, I wanted to present myself differently to when I was younger. I eventually had Lazer Removal which was expensive and uncomfortable but a really positive thing to do.
Funny you should mention the singer with the full sleeve - I too was very into his look and wanted to get a tattoo of my own. However, I’m so indecisive that 20 years later I still don’t have a single one! I’ve had ideas that have come and gone… I still intend to get that sleeve done, just can’t make up my mind 😂
My reasons why I regret getting tattoos living in Eastern Europe: 1. Job opportunities. (Yes, it's less, especially in some stricter work environments or cultures). 2. Being more easily recognizable. (Believe me, sometimes it's better not to have any distinctive features.) 3. In smaller towns, hearing comments about them from drunk or shady men. (They just can't help themselves.)
I love my tattoos so much and all the stories behind them. But I will definitely be showing my younger sister this video, so she can know all the sides to getting tattoos. Thank you Sara❤ and your tattoos look awesome btw!
Please for the love of God.. Do not add any more (as you were contemplating) to your upper arm in order to ‘finish your sleeve’. Tbh my advice would be to bite the bullet and start with laser sessions asap. Look on the bright side, all of them are located in just one area! (your arm/ hand) I believe that lots of us see these people with these amazing works of art on their body and don’t realize the time, money and sometimes traveling expense it took for that person to get that work on them.. I know I didn’t realize that the majority of tattoo artists out there simply do not have the talent they think they have.. One more thing, as we know black ink comes out the easiest.. so that’s another thing in your favor. Good luck!
This needs to be said more often. I always wanted a tattoo in mu 20s. Couldn’t decide what I wanted and where. I’m 40 now. Sooooooo glad I never got one. Your body changes, shape, weight, everything. Your SKIN changes. Just don’t get a tattoo. There are so many other ways to express yourself and it’s 1 less thing to deal with later in life.
I just found your channel through your genetically male video coming up on my recommendations and I have to say, a few videos in and I love your vibe so much - feels so honest, unobnoxious, easy-going. Like talking to a friend, rather than watching a performance. And I don't mean for that to sound rude at all. It's refreshingly nice and down to earth. I pray you find peace in this life. You seem like somebody who deserves it ❤
I'm planning on having a sleeve done next year. I'm 38 now and I've never felt allowed to be myself, only in recent years have i started to be myself more. I wasn't really allowed to have tattoos or piercings. I got my ears pierced and stretched a few years ago, and it's something I always wanted to do. I can't wait to get my tattoos done. Love the video though, it is really important to think about. It is pretty much a permanent thing, I i think the same about my ears, I'm not stretching and hoping I can heal then back together 🙂 (And for what it's worth, I really like your tattoos)
Really interesting to hear your thoughts on this topic, since it’s something i’ve been thinking a lot about, recently. For me it‘s already „too late“, i have 4 tattoos now. The first 3 were really small ones and i don‘t think i‘ll ever regret them because most of the time i don‘t even see them myself. But two weeks ago i got my first big one. I thought about it for months and was really sure about it, but i definitely got some doubts after it was done. I keep thinking „what if i start disliking it in a few years? It‘s gonna cover my arm forever…“ I have to admit i got 3 out of 4 tattoos after mental crises. Not impulsive, i still thought about getting them for a long time, but i‘m actually scared i‘m going to regret it at some point in my life. I‘m scared that i‘ll think it wasn‘t actually that bad, and that it was exaggerated getting a tattoo just because i was fucked up for some time after a guy dumped me, you know. It‘s a really difficult topic, and i‘m 100% on your side when you say people shouldn‘t get tattoos until 25.
You're lovely no matter what you do to your skin ,albeit yeah enough for sure. Dig you're honesty / will help lots of folks from making a horrible decision....glad in the end when you said you're not obsessing over it !....always gotta move on.
You are dead honest with yourself, and that's awesome. People's style changes, and styling yourself with something permanent like tattoos or large holes through the ears, is not a good thing. I got my ONLY tattoo at age 33 (59 now). I got one that was very personal to me, just for me, and not fashion. I had it recolored about 5 years ago. It still means as much to me now. I took a year to decide I wanted a tattoo and 2 years to figure out exactly what it would look like.
Really love getting this perspective from you ❤ I've been wanting to get tattoos for such a long time now and I'm still considering it but exactly this state kind of would scare me off. Especially because I'm such a in the moment person and I change my mind and interests so often and quickly that... Even if I'd get the tattoos of things I love the most and always will go back to loving and rewatching etc... But yeah love seeing your face again! You're such a cool person, please keep making videos of they make you happy too!
I honestly have been so upset I haven't gotten heavily tattooed at this point yet (I'm 24) but I'm also glad I've been forced to wait this long because I've been wanting tattoos since I was 15. There were a loot of terrible ideas I had that I thought I'd want forever. Sure, there's a ton I still want to this day, but I'm glad I didn't have the opportunity to get so many tattoos so quickly. Right now I've had a plan for full arm sleeves for a few years now, and I wouldn't be able to get those sleeves if I was covered in tattoos already. I do still see myself one day being heavily tattooed, at least with two arm sleeves and a chest piece, but I do understand why so many people regret their tattoos.
I sometimes think of how i'd look if I wouldn't have any tattoos.. but in the end I love to have a lot of draws of different artists on my skin. Each one of them represents something, or reminds me certain moment of my life, even the ones that doesn't have any concrete meaning. I also think that regretting tattoos, or start thinking about having a 'clean skin' could be influenced by the beauty-social pressure that sadly exists on women. I understand that if you are feeling uncomfortable w them, the only thing u can do is go to therapy or prepare urself to that painful process to remove them off, but, in the meanwhile, Idk if this helps but.. Your tattoos are beautiful
I truly feel for you. I hope a LOT of people all over the world see your channel & absorb your experience & wisdom. I wish you happiness, serenity & everlasting joy. Live deliciously!
Tattoo culture has changed when I got my first back in 2007. I feel people get it done more for a fashion statement now than what it used to mean & represented. If you ask me why I got a tattoo in 2007 well I am a musician played prog metal it was part of being a musician you got tattooed to look cool on stage. My first tattoo had meaning behind it. I was 28 just took me 10 years after he died to finally get one to honour my dad and my Celtic culture.
I get that it's part of being a musician, for some. But I wish people would just consider how someone sounds, on stage. Especially in prog genre. I listen to prog metal, and I never paid attention to who has tattoos, I don't respect musicians based on that. My favorite guitarists (Michael Romeo, Guthrie Govan, Paul Gilbert) have zero tattoos. Misha Mansoor has a tiny tattoo... could be just without, nobody would care. MMA is another place where tattoos are common, but lot of the best fighters don't have any. They don't help you to win fights
So impressed at your honesty, I wish that everyone thinking of getting tattoos should be shown this video. This is an important video. Well done and good luck with your life.
Hello Sara , huge respect to you for sharing this sensitive subject , you are very beautiful & I'm sure your life will be fine & that all will be well , more power to you .
About the prefrontal cortex, scientiest now say its not fully developed until the age of 28! I believe they will soon find its not developed fully until our 30thies. I agree about tatoo. People should atleast start with temporary tatoos and see how they feel with it after lik 1-2 years. You are bound to grow tired of it. There is no way one won't grow tired of permanent ink images on ones skin sooner or later
Thank your lucky stars girl, I was 45when I started my laser sessions , full right sleeve removal 12 sessions over 24 months.every journey small steps right ❤
I'm glad you're back with uploading videos regularly! i missed you. and yep when i was a teen i was thinking of getting tattoos because it was 'cool'. now i am in my early 20s and i don't regret getting them at all. personally, i would never make such a permanent decision on my body. also like you said, trends are changing and that geometric bear tattoo is the best example of that. what we find cool today might not age well
Maybe you should get informed where tattoos come from and how it started. If it's annoying to you, I'm sorry you have a small mindset for not tolerating and accepting someone else's opinion except your own.
@feetheawkward1739 So sharing my thoughts equals my emotion state to you? Where does it show? Anyways, no need to answer rethorical questions. I won't waste my time here. Enjoy your time.
You could try covering hand tatoo with this heavy foundation made for this purpose (I don't remember the brand name). Just for special occasions or to check if to proceed with the removal.
I also regret some of my tattoos. Got most of my tattoos from 18-21 and now I’m 41. People have this notion that I’m criminal, drug addict, badass and I’m none of those 😂 I have a master’s degree, and am such a soft person. I’ve never done drugs and have no criminal record whatsoever! Maybe what I regret more is the perceptions of and reactions to them and how I didn’t understand that when I was young. Anyway, agree with a lot of what you said. I had a few removed with laser but it was so expensive and also more painful than getting the tattoo. Also watched another vid and want to say it’s not the same at all as your experience, but I’m trans (FTM) and can also relate to the “circus side show” aspect when people find out. Keep up the great videos!
i'm so glad i didn't start to get tattooed at 18 because i would've ended up with the cringiest pinterest tattoos. i started my tattoo journey at 21 and i love my tattoos even though all of them aren't the most unique ones. they still mean a lot to me :')
I think I would erase everyone except for 5 (got like 20). Mostly I got them because I was feeling depressed and I needed that kind of thing. I didn't feel a thing but it was a form of hurting myself. But yeah... I'm gonna remove them 😂
This is why reputable tattoo artists don't tattoo hands, and even have a discussion about your lower arm, unless the you're already tattooed heavily and in the upper part of the arm. It's why they roll their eyes when you bring in Pinterest, and they say "No. How about something else?" It's why they cringe when you say "tat." With the trend of people being afraid to be "gatekeepers" (such a stupid term), however, young tattooers susceptible to peer pressure think they should just ignore culture and codes of tattooing, between teacher and student, that developed over a long time and for good reason. They don't realize tattoos are much about culture and psychology, in which we *routinely* police our action understanding consequences. Like, we don't say "What's the purpose of pants? Why wear them? That's gatekeeping to say I must wear pants!" and then walk out in public with a nude bottom half. Tattoo artists are supposed to catch those mistakes, like catching a toddler about to run outside without pants on, when they interact with the hordes of clients in modern times. The new people getting tattooed are toddlers in essence, who haven't yet been enculturated with the social codes that will protect them from undesirable consequences and still have that bit of child's mentality of "I want what I want; gimme now."
I appreciate your honesty on this. It takes guts to own up to this. But, I think it's so important especially as tattoos have gotten a lot more popular and trendy. Young people are inherently dumb to some degree and can easily get swept up in wanting to do something cool and then realizing 10 years later they're not the same person anymore, trends change like the wind, and yet those things are never coming off. Yikes.
I’ll tell you from first hand experience. Getting more makes it worse. Laser removal does hurt but I’m getting my whole sleeve removed with multiple colours. Black is the best for getting removal . The hand does hurt but it’s short time frame sessions
Tattoos are comparable to expensive things. I've spent about 10K on my watches, and it took me at least a year to buy anything, and a year after buying my watches, I still like them (though one more than the other two). The most important thing is to take your time and buy them after a year. Always after a year.
Yes, there's a demand for videos. I'm glad to see you every time. And you've given my husband some answers he needed about getting a tattoo, so thank you!
Second that. You’re just generally an interesting human, pleasant to watch. Keep existing for us too.
Pfp (Profile picture) and / or Banner Sauce (Source [Artist])? 🗿
I've got multiple tattoos and I love every one. This girl just was dumb and didn't think, about what she was getting. Sounds like a personal defect.
Absolutely, I did similar (I waited 6 months) Deffo a good idea😊
This is such good advice. I was going to get one, didn’t, and now I’m glad I didn’t.
I like that, sorta like getting engaged first and waiting to get married
No matter how much you like it there’s probably times you’d rather not have it
SOOOO ssoooo so sooo happy I have ZERO tattoos.
I don't regret my tattoos I just get mine touched up after 10 years or so
She looks terrible. Imagine how many decent men will never consider her as a partner because of this. Personally i wouldnt even talk to her lmao
Sara you are one of the few TH-camrs who are so honest to their viewers.
@MilkyLore My sentiments don't have to be identical to yours. Happy new year. ✌🏾
"Like herpes on a lithuanian prostitute" GIRL. They way you were so specific with the country. What did we do to deserve this😂
😂
Frrrrrrr
glad someone brought it up! i found this joke from sara a bit insensitive towards sex workers
@hihhuhuijaa4165 it being insensitive to some people wasn't the reason that I brought it up. I just found it funny, also because I'm lithuanian and I wasn't expecting such a shout out😂
Lol what a statement... Maybe a bit inappropriate though
i am 25 now and i absolutely understand what you mean by “only deciding on your own from the age of 25” because i used to want avatar the airbenders tattoos all over my face when i was 19. luckily i had no money back then
Wtf 😂
@@asamicat8323 lmao
Why the hell will you want it on your face?
sadly even more people nowadays want to make life changing permanent changes before age 25
Really all over your face.
God help this country when these Greeks are running this country one day . Glad I’ll be dead by then.
I admire your courage for even bringing this up. I'm glad I never got one.
Try henna stain
Or INKBOX
More-so maturity rather than courage.
Hey, I’m 73 and my armband looks really stupid on on skinny, skin hanging arm! Got it for my 50th when I had a bike. I’m a female. I regret it.
Tatoo removal is the most painful thing I have ever done. Totally, not worth it!
My advice is don't do it.
Tattoos are definitely the chaff
Friendly reminder for everyone considering matching tattoos: don’t.
Nope! Life isn't even guaranteed so how are marriages and relationships!?
i have two which i forget i have sometimes, they’re on my ribs so they’re rarely visible and i honestly like that about them - they’re meaningful to me and the lack of visibility means i don’t invite unwanted conversation about them from onlookers! i think visible tattoos look awesome though and, as you say, the stories and meaning the individual attributes to them are often the best aspect!
relating to this, what i honestly love about tattoos (which i know not everyone does!) is that they’re a typically permanent reminder of a temporary period in your life. in my mind, they serve to remind you where you‘ve been, and who you were at the time of getting them - which, at the time, was a very real person with their own thoughts, feelings and desires! i personally believe that we should endeavour to remember and feel compassion towards the past versions of ourselves so we can continue to grow and evolve, and tattoos (while they aren’t the only way to do this of course!) can definitely serve as a reminder of that :)
i know that’s all easier said than done though! i have times where i feel regret towards my tattoos, so i try to remember the younger person who was so excited to get them and try to feel compassion towards her!
thank you for this video sara, it was great to reflect on this topic :)
Yes! That was so well put. Thanks for sharing!
thanks sara! to say it’s 7am in the UK i’m surprised it’s legible 😂 i’ve been watching your videos for years, so you definitely have a viewer in me if you decide to make more :) hope you have a great day!
" permanent reminder of a temporary period in your life" that is so beautiful. I have never wanted tattoos and most likely never will, but that sentiment touched me. Sometimes it's nice to think about our younger selves and having a tattoo from those times must be a good way to remember how you were back then.
@@Sipu97ah your comment makes me so happy! i completely agree :)
@@cattus440 :)
Hope this helps start to get some removed…
This sounds like a case of someone getting tattoos without really thinking about it.
A lot of young people do that. It’s a good message to spread for all of those people
like most
You can think about it as much as you want but we all change from when we are 18, 28, 38, and so on.
She probably knows that, but it is what it is now. Can't go back anymore.
Or you know, if in doubt, just dont get a tattoos at all. Its much better than having some platitude tattooed on your body.
Don’t tattoo your hands first too
The best tip: Don’t get a tattoo period!
9:13
Dad : wtf are you watching
😅Something that poses no cause for suspicion.
Lmao I was curious so I hit the 9:13 without my headphones on. I was like fux
lmao
In these early morning hours I hope my neughbours didn't hear that 😅
Your honesty is absolutely refreshing! Thank you for sharing.
i got 2 tat's that aren't very big but it was the worst decision i made in my life. I have recently got one removed and will get the other one removed later this year. Back then i didn't know the difference between good attention and bad attention.
Coward
Every. Single. One.
this!!!
I would never date a woman with tats
Making permanent decisions as a teenager is one thing, doing so spontaneously is where problems can come up and that applies as an adult too
It is very good that you share this story for younger people.
I feel this.
The good news is it can be removed! I’m in the process right now of doing laser removal. It’s a process though, about a year but I’m so happy to be able to remove them.
@@krystiesolfyre5340 Is it super pricey?
I love a nice tramp stamp.
I hope you are spreading the word to young people.
❤ Älä anna levy-yhtiöiden sanella ehtoja, siulla on niin paljon seuraajia, että pärjäisit musiikkibisneksessä varmasti ilman niitäkin

not gonna lie, that's kinda sad that your spouse stopped you from something you enjoyed.
That means you first got them in 1974?!?!?
At least this is a superficial thing like the cover on a book. It's what is on the inside that really counts. It's not the same kind of a regret like not having done something differently that you can't fix or do over...
this is dear to my heart this subject as I'm heavily tattooed at a young age, I'm only 22 and I don't know how I feel about some of my tattoos already, I wouldn't say pure regret but sometimes I question them and I do worry a lot about what other people think...
also more importantly you are funny as hell! love your chaotic energy, subscribed!
I feel the exact same way!!
But of course they’re not gonna listen - just like we didn’t. It’s a canon event 😄
@@sara4sberg I think with the way you bring it out they just might listen. You are not judging, not even yourself, just saying what you think now and that is sooo important to them. Thank you for being you and taking the burden of helping others with your honesty.
@sara4sberg I think so too. It's like that with everything else in life too.

I regret all of my tattoos. I wish people would be more honest about this. If I could do it again I would never ever get one. Thank you!
May I ask, what age did you get the tattoos?
@@anon2218 one at 16, one at 19, one at 21. The one I got at 19 I regret the most, the other two are small enough to where I can live with them. It’s not about age though or the context of the tattoo for me. I wish I was blank. There was nothing wrong with my skin exactly the way I was born. I would feel this way no matter what age I had been. I guess some mistakes you just have to make yourself to realize them
@@EverybodyLovesSarah that’s so true
When I saw tattoos for the first time at the age of 6 (or possibly even younger) at the river where we went swimming, it hit me like a lightning. I was spellbound and knew one day I would certainly get some myself. Fast forward, I am 40 now and for the past 20+ years I've probably though once a month for a while about tattoos. But I still have a grand total of 0. I just can't make up what I would want. I am trying to approach the thought as "what is something I would have loved when I was 6, 16, 26, 36 ..." to give it the best chance at continuity, so that I would keep enjoying it in the future as well. I am overthinking it for decades now:
- I want something not too small, but mostly hidden, with a bit of show when sleeves are pulled up and the button is open
- fully coherent, I don't like the little mini patchwork of different styles and ideas mishmashed together
- no clear motifs, like a protrait, an animal, cartoon, compass, plants, i tend to find those tattoos amazing to look at, but it would not suit me
- so more like abstract shapes that can hint at something like an animal or so
- only black ink
- needs to have personal meaning
- high quality, high skill artist, price doesn't matter
This is how far I get and then I give up lol.
I started with this and im so happy my scars are gone and have meaningful tattoos over them. ❤
I've got many tattoos from my time in service, and many scars before, around and after them. We are all marked by the lives we've lived. I try to let the leaves lay where they fall, I've been in a good, non-judgmental community and church, enjoy the life you have and be thankful for it all.
Love how you're being so real lately. Also you're so freaking effortlessly hilarious
i honestly think that that the most detrimental contributor of tattoo regrets and just getting them because u saw it on pinterest and liked it i hv gotten both meaningful and just aesthetic tattoos but i ALWAYS go through the design process with the artists and attach feelings or memories to each tattoo even if there isn't a deeper meaning to it. i also think there's a difference between disliking and regretting ur tattoos, for me i have always accepted the probability that i might one day not like my tattoos anymore but i will never regret getting them it's art on my body but i also view it as a journey that has made me who i am whether if i was immature or impulsive at the time it will always be a part of me.
You may not regret them now, but you may do in the future. We change.
Ancient designs? That's neat
I love these videos!!!
Your honesty is refreshing...and it always leaves me with something to think about!
Don't worry Saara, got my tattoo at 15, wishing now at 20 that my parents were a bit stricter
As humans, we change as we age. We mature and get wiser and our tastes naturally evolve. Tattoos are future regrets, IMHO.
Never regret getting them because during the time this is what you wanted! Enjoy every moment
But she doesn't want them now.
They're fun, when they're not permanent
Especially on a woman
We change up too much or tend to

Funny you should mention the singer with the full sleeve - I too was very into his look and wanted to get a tattoo of my own. However, I’m so indecisive that 20 years later I still don’t have a single one! I’ve had ideas that have come and gone… I still intend to get that sleeve done, just can’t make up my mind 😂

Proud of you, your attitude and character matters most, and you are never more beautiful than the person you were born as. I wish much success to you.
Love your perspective & how you shared it
My reasons why I regret getting tattoos living in Eastern Europe:
1. Job opportunities. (Yes, it's less, especially in some stricter work environments or cultures).
2. Being more easily recognizable. (Believe me, sometimes it's better not to have any distinctive features.)
(your arm/ hand)
I believe that lots of us see these people with these amazing works of art on their body and don’t realize the time, money and sometimes traveling expense it took for that person to get that work on them..
I pray you find peace in this life. You seem like somebody who deserves it ❤
Bless your Heart Sara! I feel your remorse! I fortunately had a deep resolve not to get tattoos!! I love your tenderness, and sense abilities
I'm 40 and not once have I regretted any of my tattoos but I'm not a regretful person really. You're going to love it x
Do it i approve of more tattoos lol
Really interesting to hear your thoughts on this topic, since it’s something i’ve been thinking a lot about, recently. For me it‘s already „too late“, i have 4 tattoos now. The first 3 were really small ones and i don‘t think i‘ll ever regret them because most of the time i don‘t even see them myself. But two weeks ago i got my first big one. I thought about it for months and was really sure about it, but i definitely got some doubts after it was done. I keep thinking „what if i start disliking it in a few years? It‘s gonna cover my arm forever…“
I have to admit i got 3 out of 4 tattoos after mental crises.

I think they're cool!! It's a mix that kinda fits !!
Really love getting this perspective from you ❤
I've been wanting to get tattoos for such a long time now and I'm still considering it but exactly this state kind of would scare me off.

Prog metal 😩❤ but mainly prog

About the prefrontal cortex, scientiest now say its not fully developed until the age of 28! I believe they will soon find its not developed fully until our 30thies. I agree about tatoo. People should atleast start with temporary tatoos and see how they feel with it after lik 1-2 years. You are bound to grow tired of it. There is no way one won't grow tired of permanent ink images on ones skin sooner or later
I think it develops at 14 in women and 36 in men.

So basically you don’t regret getting tattoos, you regret bad tattoos, or getting tattoos for bad reasons. Both of which aren’t the tattoos fault.
It’s really all the same.
I'm glad you're back with uploading videos regularly! i missed you. and yep when i was a teen i was thinking of getting tattoos because it was 'cool'. now i am in my early 20s and i don't regret getting them at all. personally, i would never make such a permanent decision on my body. also like you said, trends are changing and that geometric bear tattoo is the best example of that. what we find cool today might not age well
the association with tattoos, delinquency, crime, and overall “badness” is so annoying.
Maybe you should get informed where tattoos come from and how it started. If it's annoying to you, I'm sorry you have a small mindset for not tolerating and accepting someone else's opinion except your own.

When your an adult none of that stupid shit applies to you. And to say it or think that after you already get a tattoo is simply stupid
Saaaaaame I got one this August and literally a month after I turned 21
true, but that doesn't mean you won't change your mind in the years ahead, even the ones I got in my late 20's i regret now years later
I started mine at 36 I think. 43 now, and I'm only now thinking of getting my second tattoo.
They were only following trends to fit in.
How about something else?"
It's why they cringe when you say "tat."
With the trend of people being afraid to be "gatekeepers" (such a stupid term), however, young tattooers susceptible to peer pressure think they should just ignore culture and codes of tattooing, between teacher and student, that developed over a long time and for good reason.
Yikes.
I've never seen a tattoo getting darker while healing. To me, it looks like a failed cover up or even a shitty black out.
Tattoos make me feel so confident
Saaaarraaa We missed you!!!!❤❤😊I'm here for the banana 🍌 rip!
