JOYCE grew up thinking she was just like any other girl - but at the age of 14 doctors discovered she was actually an intersex person. After years of wondering why she was so tall, Joyce's mum, Karin, had taken her for tests when it was discovered that she had XY chromosomes - making her genetically male - and an ultrasound confirmed that Joyce had no female reproductive organs. Because her body was insensitive to testosterone, she had developed outwardly female characteristics - a condition known as androgen insensitivity syndrome. At the time, Joyce admits the news was "a shock" to her and her family, as they had "never heard of intersex before." She remembers how she "immediately started crying" and it took a long time to come to terms with the idea that she would never be able to have children that would be biologically hers. And as Joyce's friends explored dating and relationships, she avoided boys - finding it "really scary to tell them I was an intersex person." Now 21 years old, Joyce has accepted her identity and in recent years she decided to be much more open about her story on social media. When she met her current boyfriend, Angus, on a dating app a year ago, he was aware that Joyce was intersex. And whilst Angus' family were "cautious" about Joyce's inability to have biological children with him in the future, that did not deter him: "The most important thing is that you become a parent with someone who you truly love and share a special bond with - that's Joyce for me." And with so much loving support around her, Joyce hopes that by sharing her story, she will reach other young intersex people who find themselves at an earlier stage of their own acceptance journey: "Intersex has always been a really big taboo. There are a lot of intersex people who don't want to tell their story, so I hope my story reaches them and they can see... It's fine to just be who you are."

@@teeniequeenie8369 You made me laugh haha, I love such honest comments. All the testosterone that I produce, but cannot respond to due to my syndrome, is converted into estrogen. As a result, I simply had "normal" breast development.
If you have XY chromosomes your a male if you have XX chromosomes your female. This is weird and disgusting.
@@teeniequeenie8369The ONLY way that trans women can have periods is if they were born intersex. Other than that, it's not possible. I PROMISE I'm a Trans ally, but I'm just stating facts. Intersex trans women can have periods. I was born male, and I still am, and I do experience stomach cramps, but I don't THINK it's a period. I never had blood coming out of me. P.S. I DO identify as male, and I hope I'm not intersex.
I know how she feels. I have a condition called MRKH. I only have one ovary! I don’t get periods, my chest came a lot later in life and I had to create my down below! It's heartbreaking to be different. It's hard to not feel normal. I wondered what I was supposed to be at times too! I still struggle with it and I'm 42! I hope she can have a child down the road. That road is expensive and I couldn't afford any of that process!
As a medical student years ago - we knew there were up to 6 different DNA types of human sexual variations - and 2 genders. This has always been in medicine. It is sad when some physicians are not educated enough to realize that nothing should be done until after the child goes through puberty - and let the child determine their sexual destiny and indentity without any surgery. Surgery should be determined by the young adult, while this child is being medically followed until 18. This also lets the child feel they have total control over their destiny - and provides mental stability and happiness. Please keep talking and reaching other people with this human story - this is the greatest contribution you can give the world - your wisdom about your life !!
💯✨️👍
Med students knew no such thing. The sexes are X, XX, XY, XYY, XX', XY', X/Y, and 2'XY. The genders are n, m, f, and c.

I just learned today here that there are intersex strains that don't present externally. I always imagined that if you are intersex, you must present both sexes' genitals externally. Apparently it can present internally, like in her case. Mutations are crazy.
We learn everyday.
I am intersex and displayed male genitals externally and a combination of both male and female internally .When an adult was able to choose which I wanted to be and choose female and had all the male external bits removed (gcs)

@@Saltiumine Wow, so original and edgy for being rude online, you're sooo cool
I say that you were, originally, mostly right. We have to be careful. In this instance, the girl is missing a stage in the reproductive organs. So just can’t have children. This isn’t exactly intersex. It is DNA anomalie that bares relation to intersex yet, it’s not actual intersex. Intersex is becoming a label like ADHD and autism spectrum. Everyone has something.
I am "intersex" and this is why I don't like the term. It's misleading. No one has both sets of genitals because they are made from the same structures. It's one or the other, or in very, very rare situations, a halfway point between the 2. Same with gonads. I have Swyer syndrome. Which means I have XY chromosomes, but still developed as a female in every way except I don't have ovaries.
Thank you for making this video and educating people! It takes a strong person to do that. Why be ashamed? Are the 1-2% of people who are redheads or the 2% who have green eyes ashamed for how they were born? My son was born with a bone condition. Nobody knows what causes it and nobody should be ashamed. Each thing carries with it something that might make life more difficult, such as not being able to have children. This is sad, but lots of people have to find alternative ways of becoming parents. So just be you and be proud of your strength and courage. Many blessings! 🙏🏻💗
What a lovely couple. I wish you both all the best and become parents one day. There is more than one way to have children. You go for it. Bless you both.
I just learned at the age of 65 that I have Triple X Syndrome. Like you said, females are usually born with two XX. Well, I have an xtra X. I'm slowly learning what that means.
Wow, you don't have to answer if you feel uncomfortable, I completely understand, but what does that mean if you have a triple X? This is a stupid guess, but more feminine?
Jesus loves you by the way, may God bless you 💗
@@FillTheCanvas Girls have XX and boys get XY. That determines their gender. Somewhere in my conception, one of the X's, either my mother's or dad's divided before it was supposed to (as the theory goes) and that X became two, so I got 3 X's at the joining. Does that make me a super woman? I wish. smile! It happens to about 1 in 1,000 girls. By the way, did you know I'm a princess? Yep, a daughter of the KING! 👑

I learned a long time ago about intersex, when making fun of "hermaphrodites" was common place. I was curious and came across so many beautiful stories of families navigating different intersex children and partners, and what that meant for them individually.
It takes just as much time to spew ignorant garbage as it does to come to understanding and acceptance of something you once didnt know.
When exactly was it common to make fun of hermaphrodites? This is an extremely rare.

Intersex is all about biological sex not gender identity
Well apparently it's not because she's genetically male but she identifies as a woman. She could have decided to identify as male, which she would have been in the position to do since she is genetically male. She could have decided to get hormone therapy or treatment but she didn't. In a way you are lucky that you found out at 14, I am 77 and just found out about 2 years ago and after a Genetic test I found out that I had 2 x Chromosomes and 1 Y Chromosome.
I have always felt wrong, It turns out that I was born with 2 complete Reproductive sets. They did surgery shortly after birth removing most of the Female parts. They missed my Ovaries and now they are making Estrogen like crazy. I just wish that they would have left it alone. Also almost all of my other Genes are doubled.
I think that in those days drs felt it was a "medical problem" that required their intervention; nowadays, most intersex babies just go home without surgery, and just live and see how much or little it impacts them over time; seems less drastic
@@DM-zn6gi Well being inter sex is the least of my problems, 23&Me did the Gene business and it turns out that most but not all of my Genes are doubled. That is really strange.

It’s so interesting how much more detail we continue to discover with the advancement of science.
I was thinking exactly that
I wonder what practical difference it made!
Exactly. That’s exactly what this situation is. This is insulting to truly intersex people. She isn’t causing the indult though. This lays on the medical establishment and the Marxist ideology that came from our elites.
I don’t know the current state of the medical field but it seems to me when a baby is born a DNA test should be run and at least ultrasounds should be done. It would catch some basic things earlier. I mean, a basic DNA test is around 100 bucks nowadays although I have no idea what a full DNA scan costs if it’s possible. But I think more information is almost always better than less. But think about, say, Celiac. There are genetic markers that say if someone is more prone to it than average and someone’s diet could be altered early enough to make a difference.
It would not have made a difference. She has no androgen recepters.
@@jmd42jmd46 It would have shown her XY karyotype (male).

I think its funny shes like "i want more people to know about intersex." And like...the only thing is a DNA thing thats imperceptible and she doesn't have a uterus. Like, why does that need to be on your dating page? You could simply say 'i cant have kids' and elaborate later on. Plenty of men, myself included, probably wouldnt have cared one way or another. I mean, if its just something you would rather people know up frobt, im cool with that, i just dont think she should feel like she HAS to say these things up front.
she's a man.
I found out 4 years ago, my body started getting crippling weak. After going through 8 doctors they sent me to the hormones one. Guy was loosing his mind cuz he never met one in person. I was seriously scared. Now im trying to find peace with it. Its crazy how i have known i may been since i was in my 20’s, when it was hella obvious. Im almost 50. People never knew how to address me. I been living my second half as female, it has helped me find new joy. On dating? Its a nightmare. Hopefully i find someone decent in the future. She is very lovely.
I’m very naive . So , when you have a child that outwardly looks female , at no point between birth and 14 ( or issues arises ) do they check for your reproductive organs ? No ultrasound or the like until an issue presents ? WOW I somehow feel this should be standard at some stage
a random ultrasound to check for internal organs that are not causing any symptoms would be casting a wide net for very few fish, so to speak, and ins. wouldn't cover it. usually it's at puberty that issues present themselves (lack of a period, in this case). before puberty, there's a large group of girls and boys who are just "children" more than girls or boys, we should leave them be.
It doesn’t matter either way because even with the help of science they cannot alter or fix it.
The last Anglo-Saxon king of England, Harold Godwinson, that died as Hastings battlefield, was only identified from birthmarks on his body, by his most beloved wife, Edith Swanneck.
That's the story I came to think of when I saw this beautiful woman.

There was a “House, MD” episode about this phenomenon.
your a female cause your body mind etc. thru puberty developed based on female characteristics cause of the androgen insensitivity syndrome. Sport wise also due to the AIS you would be female because the non (or minimal) reaction to male testosterone. Therefore one could say your struggle emotionally is mostly not about male/female (though logically assumed so)..... its mostly about just being different in a defined way.

XY are male sex chromosomes.
She has XY instead of XX. Her body cannot process male hormones so she developed as a woman with no female sex organs (uterus, ect). Hope this helps.

@@AsrielAsitgetsit's not. Even intersex chooses male or female

We go through so much hell because of our meat suits.
Certainly! Intersex variations can indeed lead to a wide range of differences in sexual development. Here are some key points:
Genital Variations:
Intersex people do not necessarily have “both” male and female genitals. Instead, their anatomy can vary significantly.
Some intersex individuals may be born with mostly aligning anatomy but missing certain parts (e.g., a uterus or testes).
Others might have aligning internal anatomy but differences in secondary traits (like breast development or facial hair).
For instance, a person could have a large clitoris or micropenis because the same tissue in humans can develop into either a clitoris or penis.
The development of labia vs. scrotum and vaginal length also exists on a spectrum1.
Sperm Production and Menstruation:
Intersex people can have diverse reproductive capabilities.
Some may have both testes and ovaries. If they also have a uterus, they might be able to get pregnant.
However, if testes are present, they may release more testosterone than optimal for conception and pregnancy.
If an intersex person is born with a functioning uterus, ovaries, and a vagina, they will likely start menstruating at puberty23.
Remember that everyone’s experience is unique, and intersex variations are complex. It’s essential to recognize and celebrate this diversity rather than relying on oversimplified ideas about sex and gender.
A chromosome anomaly is a better description in this case , since she's adverse to testosterone and can't have male genitalia therefore intersexed isn't appropriate.
Need a 10 month update or i can wait 2 months for a year update
Just glad she found happiness. No judgement here. Just find your personal happiness and embrace
What a beautiful woman.❤❤❤
My mother in law my sister in law and my daughter are 6 feet tall, and my granddaughter is very tall for 8 years old , so some women are tall but not intersex.
True.
Adoption was made for intersex people!! And not being able to carry a child will make an adopted child or children that much more precious.
Adoption is for all people if that’s what they want .
What a beautiful little lady I’m happy she has a bright spirit let it shine honey 👍❤️
Be yourself and may your star shine bright.
best wishes dear. lots of love
Respectfully I ask, if male chromosomes are XY and this individual has xy chromosome doesn’t that make them a male? The presence of the y chromosome and not the function itself makes the individual a male, right?
She doesn’t look like a male. She’s one of the rare XY females.
@Rachel2412able your comment makes no sense. There are no XY females, they are intersex
That is the point, she is genetically male, but as she cannot react to the male sex hormone that distinction (genetics) is largely moot. Sex describes a function in reproduction, so really she is neither since she has no ability to reproduce. Her gender is female. We separated gender (gender just means to classify) from sex because as we learned more we discovered people attached an awful lot of things to sex that had nothing to do with sex. Like, a preference for long hair, wearing dresses, etc.
@@Rachel2412able not as rare as you think-it's never discussed.
Intersexed implies male and female genitalia, which she can't have as she's adverse to testosterone... so she's still mislabelling herself on the Internet. When she catches up she will relable herself as someone who has a chromosome anomaly!
Depending on when you were born, look at the world now. Is it the greatest time in the history of the world to have a great child. I do not think so now. those times are gone.
I don't get the fuss. So she's female right? Has female sex organs? But no ovaries or uterous to carry a child? Am I right?
So why is this something the world needs to know? Why is it a big deal? Adopt! Surrogate mother. Lots of people can't have kids. I was adopted its no big deal.
Because she is not a female without female reproductive system. She is biologically a male but when you don’t have testosterone then you never hit puberty and breast develop and her external sex organs looked female so they don’t know until a girl goes to the doctor for not getting a period but in her case she worried she was getting too tall. That’s how she found out. She needed to know and make people aware because people are acting crazy nowadays over sex or should I say gender and making fun of people who cannot have kids or even carrying a baby. I had someone at my job tell me to get pregnant. We want to see a woman’s belly growing.
Is that the same as swyer syndrome

Thank you for sharing your story. You are a beautiful person and I am happy that you have found happiness. Intersex people are still human beings and should be treated with respect, dignity and kindness.
Being a teen is hard enough and throw something like this on top. Must have been a challanging time for you.
This is very interesting to know as I was not aware of this. Personally, I would not care one bit about being partners with someone who was intersex.
Don’t worry you are a very beautiful young lady in side and out. God Bless you and your family.❤ You have very good family and a nice boy friend.
