  • *Update: It appears that AR500 has revised the design for the Testudo Gen 2 to widen the straps. This is a very welcome fix. I ended up giving this carrier to my mother and she enjoys it, and switched to a lower profile slick carrier with soft armor instead. You can watch that unboxing here

    Just an fyi, I'm not sponsored by anyone or anything. I've included these links for your benefit! Also, excuse the clothing choice and lighting in this video; I just got off work and didn't want to wait. Bear with me if I say something wrong as well; It's kinda hard to execute an unboxing flawlessly 😁 I believe the mag pouches and pistol holster were in fact made by AR500 and not by condor, so there's that. Anyways, hope you guys enjoy the video!

    Thanks for the review, I ended up getting one. My straps don't seem to rub my neck but my plates are on back order so I am not sure how that will be once I get the carrier loaded down but so far it seems to fit me just fine, I am 6'0 and 185lbs.

    You said the plates are pretty heavy I'm 55 years old it looks like it would be something great to wear to go on a long run and walk hike for exercise !!! Should I be worried about scaring people around me wearing body armor would attract attention to yourself that's for sure. too bad they can't make it Terrier that's inconspicuous !!! Ya no ??? Great video great to see how it comes out of the box with that being said God bless

      They actually make weighted vests that are similar to plate carriers but dont offer bullet protection. That said, plate carriers definitely look more intimidating. I actually switched to a new carrier that can be concealed under your clothing, made by Beez Combat Systems. You should check that out. Anyways, I appreciate the comment and thanks for watching!

      Bro, at 55yrs old you'll blow out whatever remaining millage you have on your knees, ankles, and hips running around with that much weight on a regular basis for exercise purposes.

      I am 54 and chubby (250lbs), the new Gen 2 Testudo is super comfy and it has a lot of padding so the sweat dries away. I did not have hills but I walked for five miles and it was not a problem, close your eyes and pretend you are being hugged, ha! Steel is way better so embrace the added weight. Composite and ceramic do not protect around the edges, the standard is required up to 2 inches away from the edges, so steel is monolitic and protects anywhere.

    5 months later and I still love it. I took the cumberbun out and just tightened the side clips and leave one fastened that way I can just grab it, throw it on them clip the one. The fucker is still heavy though

    I’m 6’ 245lbs with a wide body frame and a thicker neck. The 10x12 fits me perfect and would probably be better for your narrower body frame. We live and we learn. I wish I would have gone with the Valkyrie or the Banshee over the testudo due to the straps being so close. They do rub my neck and are noticeable but comfortable and I’m sure would start to irritate the skin after prolonged wear. I took advantage of the Black Friday sale when I ordered the testudo so I can’t complain too much, it was a great price. Hopefully this helps other viewers before they buy their carrier.

    • @TheTroublemakersGuild
      @TheTroublemakersGuild  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Beach Contractor
      Wise words. I took out the side plates, and now the plate carrier gets nice and tight like it should. The straps are close for sure, but I intend to wear a high collard shirt with it if I need to actually use it for any stretch of time, and it should be good enough for me. The 11 inch plates are probably excessive, but I'm not complaining really. That said, maybe someday I'll swap them out for something a bit lighter

    That looks like a good deal but I haven't seen any package deals where they include the side plates and the larger ar500 plates 11 x 14 or whatever size those are because I'm pretty tall and the smaller plates would look ridiculous and wouldn't protect much I probably could have worded this better

    Jesus, 11 x 14” and 6 x 8” plates. That thing is going to be monstrously heavy. I went with 10 x 12 and 6 x 6” plates for mine. I also test fitted my carrier before I ordered the side plates. I was afraid the 6 x 8” side plates would dig into arm pits too much and restrict lateral movement. Other than that, I have pistol and AR Mag pouches and a trauma kit. I also ordered the blunt force trauma pads later on. Do like the setup though. My plates are also the Level III+ curved with the added anti-spall coating.

    I'm gonna order this carrier but I'm worried about the fit cause I'm not a big guy by any means I weigh 150lbs and idk it its gonna be to big so I have to look into getting either the 11inch plates or the smaller ones

    • @TheTroublemakersGuild
      @TheTroublemakersGuild  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TheTroublemakersGuild
      @TheTroublemakersGuild  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andi Seitllari I'm actually pretty average in size, 6ft and 160lbs. In my humble opinion you would probably be better off with the 10×12 due to weight reduction. I may end up swapping mine out soon for some lighter plates

    • @andiseitllari8288
      @andiseitllari8288 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TheTroublemakersGuild
      @TheTroublemakersGuild  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Side plates are completely up to you. The 6×8 plates are great for protection but aren't exactly the most comfortable, and weigh about 7lbs for the pair. It also prevents me from getting the cummerbund to fit as tightly as possible. I personally would either go with 6×6 steel plates, any size soft body armor for the sides, or no side plates. Just keep in mind that you'll have to get trauma pads for the soft body armor

      I don't think the 11 inch plates will fit in the Condor. The two big plates weigh about 21 lbs or so. The 2 side plates together weigh about 7 lbs. The carrier weighs about 3 lbs. That's about 31 lbs without any attachments

    • @TheTroublemakersGuild
      @TheTroublemakersGuild  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Andy L The package I got came with the flat side plates. Really if comfort is what you're concerned about, you shouldn't have any issues! I just didn't like the weight, so I took them out. That said, I believe AR500 is having a special sale right now where you can get the Testudo 2, the plates, a trauma pad AND an IFAK for a little over what I payed for the carrier and plates alone. In that package you can choose which side plates you get

    • @commandericeman8588
      @commandericeman8588 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, that weight ain't no joke, I have the 11x14 plates and 6x8 side plates plus an abdominal plate. Once you add a full compliment of magazines (pistol and rifle) plus an IFAK, and a knife, camelbak and finally your AR15 you're going to be feeling it.

      @TheTroublemakersGuild  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm gonna make a video about it soon when I decide to stop being lazy, but long story short I would probably look elsewhere for a plate carrier. At the very least I would get another model from AR500, like the Veritas. The straps on the Testudo really limits its practicality considering it can cause sores on your neck if you're not wearing a shirt with a high collar. Also, the fact that the Testudo can generally not be had at the same price point I got it at makes it even more of a downer. The same package I got back then is now about $100 more last time I checked, and its not worth the design flaw at that point.
      There's no doubt it's a high quality product, but the weight and the straps just make it not for me

      What's creepy about protecting yourself? It's good to have for protection if someone is breaking into your house and you have to engage them, it's good to have for an active shooter scenario, and it's good to have when at the range to prevent harm from ricochet. Basically, if there's any situation where bullets will be flying, or at the very least can be, armor becomes invaluable
